His Cobra had a bore thru hosel with a wood plug. It changed the clubs CG, moving it to the heel. I did it to mine, and it hit the nicest low bullet draws!

The 975d is iconic to me as well for Tiger

The 975D is still my all time favorite driver. Love the looks, sound, feel, and control. I have a couple (and a 976R) and they see the course several times a year.

I always liked Tigers original set of clubs back when he first turned pro,,, a mixed set up of two Mizuno iron models, Cleveland wedge, Cobra driver and the 3 wood was a Titleist PT,, I cound be wrong on the 3 wood.Obviously a Ping putter. All clubs had the Dynamic Gold X100 shafts...43 or 43 1/2 inch driver
and absolutely hit it a mile! I can only associate with the King Cobra as I had one, not deep face, back then...Hated it! Lol

Just an FYI, Bob Voley designed the 975 drivers.

That Cobra driver is iconic at the Masters. Crenshaw won with it in '95, Norman used it when he finished 2nd in '96 and Tiger used it to win in 97. I think also Steve Jones won the US Open with it in I think 1996.

The Nike 460 Ignite is a beast. My son played one of those and a SQ 460 driver and he was hitting them 320+. Someone stole his bag of clubs and he replaced with a couple newer drivers and they're not as good.

In 1996 graphite shafts weren’t very stiff. That’s why he played x100 in driver.

Cycling has that with Eroica events. They're pretty popular too. I get to bust out my 80's racers.

I have that exact Titleist 975D. The feel, sound and ball flight are so majestic. It seems like its going farther than a modern driver because it just hangs in the air but I think that is due to the high spin rate which is why a modern driver is still longer.

I just got not 1, but two titleist 905s drivers, and I really loved your 905t video.

I wanted to love the 975D, but I just didn't hit it very well. Oh well - that's the way it goes sometimes!

I had the same sentiments. I had a chance to play a half-dozen holes using a 9.5 degree 975D; all I could hit (at best) were short and low slices!

My 975D (9.5*)and accompanying 18.5* fairway wood have the True Temper BiMatrx steel and composite shaft. Very odd feeling.

1996 Titleist 975d is 270cc head (crazy how golf companies were able to push headsize to 460cc by 2002 ish AND nonconforming as well with COR going above 0.83). I used to play with it using grafalloy prolite shaft in high school. It feels wonderful when you hit well. It wasn't the Nike driver that gave him the edge BUT Nike TW golf balls. Those balls were way ahead of Professional 90/100 balls (remember wound balls LOL) until Titleist introduced ProV1 (2005 I think) we know today.

Pro V1 came out in late 2000. The original version had a seam that players would line up in different orientations on the tee for different ball flights.

Titleist 975D with X-Stiff Steel Shaft (TT X100 ?) says Tiger to me. Scotty Scheffler is favorite to win The Masters.

I wouldn’t say the 975d was the ‘Tiger’ driver he just used it & only for one year . Many other notables used it, Sergio Garcia, David Duval, Davis Love, Ernie Els, and many other top players.

I still cannot fathom using a steel shaft for a driver. I used 3/5 woods steel but driver nope. Nowadays there are many light weight steel shafts- may worth a try.

@@tonythaiger93 I used a steel shaft in the 2000s. Bought the 975J with the X100 for $5 at playitagain sports before going to the range.
I’m an old rugby player, power lifter, etc. my first swing went straight and far. My jaw dropped, I swung again, and had the same result.
I took it out for a 9 hole evening round, and the same result. I didn’t not know if the shaft had less twist, but I was finding fairways. Gamed it in an 18 hole round. Max distance was 280, but straight. My buddy gave me his 975F 13.5° to match.
      I usually use a 76+ gram x-stiff shaft.
My wife isn’t too pleased I keep adding vintage clubs to our storage.
