  • In the video I say 1978, my sticker reads 1978. A viewer, that is brighter than I am, pointed out that this is a 1982 medallion. So, I updated the title.

Great new vid! My fav brand by far. My Ben Hogan Apex II's have AMF shafts. Now I know roughly how old they really are. Still to this day, best feeling Irons I have ever hit.

I have 8 sets of old Hogans from the 62 Power Thrust to the 98 Apex Blade-in-Blades including the Medallions. Such a joy to play a different set each morning. Hogan called the little offset an under-duck to get the center of the shaft in-line with the sweet spot.

I love Ben Hogan irons. I was in goodwill and I picked up three Hogan Redlines ( 5,7,9) which I was happy about. I also picked up a 3 iron VIP macgregor which I have which I use as a driving iron. What the heck, could use a backup. I got suspicious when I inspected the grip and found that the grip had a tennis grip rewear on it. I actually bought my own clubs back, including the Hogans! My wife borrowed my van to take a donation to goodwill, and apparently took the opportunity to chuck some of my loose clubs out of the van! I am hoping I still have the full set of Redlines, I haven’t had the guts to search the garage for them.

No need to apologize! Glad to see your posts and thank you for taking the time still to hit the range and hit the simulator as well with them.
In future trackman sessions, would it be possible to add Dynamic Loft, Face Angle, and Landing Angle? Thank you as always!

Put a new S400 shaft on that thing and there will be virtually no difference between these and modern blades.

I've played PC's, White Cameo, and Grinds. I've played Mizuno mp33's. The Hogan's were softer, but only the Hogan Hogan's, not those modern ones that are Hogan in name only. I'd have liked to see Mr Hogans response to your Texas profiling. Can I also mention another great Texan Mr Stevie Ray Vaughan, the greatest blues man ever.

I think that you are holding an '82 Medallion...the '78 Medallion had a copper/brass cameo insert of Hogan's profile (similar to the '79 Apex II black & '81 Apex II white)....all excellant clubs
Even tho Mr Hogan sold the business to AMF, he remained on the board to maintain the integrity of design...

@@TheVintageGolfer no problem...I've seen a bunch of positive reviews for the Black & White cameo's while saying the copper/brass ones are less "positive" (whatever that means :-D )

I have the 78's. I got them about 4 or 5 months ago so I haven't got to hit them except for a time or two. My 9 iron is missing the copper medallion. I really like them.

Mr. Vintage- I note your "In their day" qualifying comments. But have there ever been, in any era (including modern), better irons than than the classic Hogan blades?
