    From like 1995 until 2009 every saturday night my old man would have a few beers and tell me the same thing..."THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND IS THE MOST UNDERRATED FUCKING BAND OF ALL TIME!" Usually right after his guitar solo with the broom while sweeping the house. Now im 30...my floors are clean, my broom is in standard tuning...and the allman brothers are the most underrated fucking band of all time

      Comment of the Day, your dad was right.
      I never saw them in 70s but from 89 to 2000ish I saw them dozens of times and there weren't many who could put on a show like them. Now I'm going to crank up Allman Brothers 9/19/71 SUNY Sunnybrook and sweep my house (if you haven't heard that show with Dickey and Duane,especially Blue Sky I recommend it) Cheers.

      Try tuning down a half tone. But yes, THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND IS THE MOST UNDERRATED FUCKING BAND OF ALL TIME!
      We would have gotten on marvelously, your old man and moi.

      Nah. When your album is selected for the Library of Congress ad being Culturally, Historically, or Aestheticly important, you're not underrated. They're finally getting the credit they so rightly deserve, IMO. And we know it wasn't chose for aesthetics, art & beauty or philosophy type stuff, so its historically or culturally important. That's one hell of a label to put on "At Fillmore East", the best live album ever produced. ❤️
      But I get it. It was the same was at my house. Except it was... "You know we named you after Duane Allman the best guitar player to ever live"...while wearing out every Allman Brothers album my parents owned. And here I am at 38 years old and you'll hear the same words out of my mouth lol. Love me some ABB. In fact, Duane inspired me to learn to play guitar myself, at 38 yrs old. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Almost 50 years after his death. He made a hell of an impact on culture and rock n roll in general. Not to mention pretty much creating Southern Rock almost by himself.
      I can't believe Derek Trucks played WOODSTOCK!!! At 14 or 15 freakin years old. He was born in '79

    I was one of the lucky people that got to see The Allman Brothers Band with the original lineup…September 18,1971….I was a Grand Funk Railroad guy..My best friends “The Spook” met Mike Callahan(sound board) at the airport and he invited us to the sound check and saw to it ws had tickets at will call… I’m here to tell you that my life changed that night… I became an ABB fan for life… Duane and Dickey, Berry, Butch, Jaimoe and Gregg were and remain the best I’ve ever seen… however I’ve seen them many times and w/various players….they never ever failed to amaze me and everyone attending….The best band ever…in my book!!

    We ACTUALLY SHOT THIS in Analog HDTV, a standard which was successful in Japan but never here in the USA. There are hours and hours of Woodstock 94 in NHK's archives. (For you technoids, here's some fun: we recorded this on highly modified 1" versions of Sony's normally 1" type C machines. It was called 1125-line Hi-Vision. The footage shown here is from some very low quality dub, but these bands were all recorded in good-as-or-better-than-Blu-Ray quality. Sad that the quality sucks here.) I was there for every minute of it. My job was Simulcast Transmission Coordinator.

DUANE WAS RAUNCHY MOST OF THE TIME,, AND OTHER THAN HIS SOLOS ON THE "EAT A PEACH" ALBUM,,, ALMOST NEVER HEARTFELT, OR SWEET LIKE DICKEY!!!

    The Allman Brothers IS right up there with the Stones and the Beatles as the greatest group of all time. This concert is proof. Dickey Betts in his prime. Warren Hayes- amazing. Greg's vocals and Hammond. Percussion, bass. Just a masterful, powerful performance. Jam bands tend to ramble- not the ABB. Not one wasted note. Just awesome.

      @andrewptob 9 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      donald thompson Totally agree, bro. Dickey has always been overshadowed by Duane's legacy, even with Duane's career being as short as it was. The reality is that ABB had two of the top 10 best rock guitarists of all time in the same band. True music fans realize Dickey's amazingness and that's all that really matters in the end.

I taped it, and my ex lost the tape! I was beyond angry! Blockbuster put out Woodstock 2 on tape. The Allman Brothers were not on it! Can you imagine? Even the announcer said it was easily the BEST band of the entire show. I've been looking for this for over 25 years. Some of the best I've vver seen! Downloading now .I WILL NOT lose this copy...

      I had a 2T hard drive almost full. 1,000s of music, movies, all sorts of videos from years and years. It crashed and I lost everything. And so much of it cannot be replaced. I had the original Joe Cocker '94 Woodstock in Hi Def and Dolby sound like this one. Not here anymore. Just bad second generation VHS. And on and on and on. I now have TWO 3T drives and a program that downloads to BOTH drives at the same time. I WILL NOT lose all my stuff again.

      Yeah, I saw them about a month before this show and they pretty much burned the place down. It was only my second concert - I was 15 and didn't really know much about them - I actually went to see Blues Traveler. The Allmans came out and changed everything I thought music was. It was insane. I couldn't even put it into words how it affected me. And as a sidenote - I saw Dickey drink an entire bottle of Jack throughout the show, and when they walked out for the encore - he was drinking a can of beer. Lol. Him and Warren were playing like they were possessed all night. They were just devastating.

    I would love to own a DVD with EVERY SINGLE CONCERT from this show. I was at this show but couldnt be at multiple places at once and it was so damn croweded it took an hour to get 20 feet sometimes LITERALLY. I sometimes shed a tea remembering this concert. it was the last big thing my grandmother did for me before she passed. Bought me tickets to this show. I was such a horrible kid and didnt deserve it.

    Hard to believe The Allman Brothers Band is no more. I was luck y enough to see them during the 70's, 80's, 90's and into their last days as the most influential Southern Rock and jam band of all time.I was also fortunate enough to have met a few members of the band over the years. Dickey Betts along with Duane Allman were two of the biggest influences on me as a guitarist. However, Dickey Betts has always been my favourite during his years with ABB. His masterpiece's Jessica and In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed will pass the test of time for years to come. I noticed towards the end of Whipping Post in this video that he was a little pissed at his 'Cry Baby Wah-wah' pedal as it seemed to have been stuck in the On position,... he was stomping on that thing like it was a Rattle Snake he wanted to kill, lol.
    RIP, Gregg, Duane, Barry and Butch,... you will forever be missed by the ABB Nation.
    Dickey, please stick around for a many more years.

    Proud to be a native Georgian, and super proud of the amazing legacy of our home state heroes: The Allman Brothers! Even Gregg's initials are "GA" - ha! But seriously, growing up in south Ga, this music is intertwined with everything . The Allman Bros. and Lynyrd Skynyrd are such integral entities to our cultural aspects and identity , here. The sad thing is that as I get older I realize that the younger generations have not been as exposed to this heritage as much as I was. Should never let it die .
    I think a revival (pun intended!) of traditional/"Classic"/"Southern" Rock N Roll is long,long overdue. Rap, hip hop and disposable Pop have been the main genres for the last 20 years ....... it's time to bring back Rock N Roll !!

I was fortunate to run into and sit in with Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes, and Gregg on jam night in early 90 at a little place on Anna Maria Island, Bradenton, FL called "Turtles". Lord bless the Allman brothers. I was seeing them alot in the late 80s-90s. Hard to believe Gregg just passed and Butch not long ago. And man did I Love Allen Woody. Saw him play with Mule on the last night of his life. Phew..he was phenomenal that night and then he was gone the next day. That was rough. Gregg is especially rough losing as he's been a music hero of mine for 30+ years. Always wished him and Dicky would get back together just once more. With Gregg passing it's the end of an era. RIP GREGG ALLMAN Gone but never forgotten!! Thankfully Warren, Derek and Oteil will keep the spirit alive along with Gregg's kids, Dicky and every musician on the jam scene. Long live the Allman brothers. Play it sweet for the good lord

    There's a good bit more to what happened to Dickey! He was screwed over by some of the people that should NEVER have crossed him up so badly! I consider myself very fortunate to have been struck by the Allman Bros. lightnin way back in 1970! I couldn't get enough of them!!! I became a free-lance writer for 3 college papers, and then wrote for "Good Times" rock newspaper in NYC area. I became close with the publicity folks at Capricorn Records, the Allman's record label. I interviewed the "Dixie Dregs Band" on Long Island, and met Twiggs Lyndon, the Allman Bros. road manager, who was now managing the Dixie Dregs. And we enjoyed our interview together, and he was so nice to me, and let me actually PLAY Duane Allmans 1959 Cherry Sunburst Les Paul!!!!! I almost passed out when he said to pull the coffin case out from under the seat of his cube van! I noodled around for almost 20 minutes on that beautiful guitar!!! He told me that Gregg gave it to him for all that he went through when Twiggs went to jail for a bar fight with the manager of a club that refused to pay the band! Accidentally Twiggs killed the man and suffered over that! But Twiggs told me something that I had NO IDEA that Dickie went through. Dickies wife, Sandra Bluesky, who Dickie absolutely loved and adored,, was cheating on Dickey, having sex with Capricorn records owner, Phil Walden!! And it devastated Dickey, which is understandable! Twiggs went on to tell me that in retribution for Walden fluking Bett's wife,, Dickey got somewhat even, by walking into the studio and taking an AXE and a hatchet to the entire studios mixing boards/consoles!!! Can't say as I blame him one tiny bit there!!!!! Anywho,,, that's just ONE thing (there's more!) Betts suffered at the hands of management and other supposedly close friends!!!!!!

    • @peteshallcross787
      @peteshallcross787 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sucks, but it didn't hurt Dickie's guitar playing. Reading up on this Twiggs Lyndon guy, he came back to the ABB in '78 and suggested Phil Walden come back as their manager and Betts was pissed so it didn't work out. If your story is true, imagine the gall of Lyndon to suggest that! His lawyer got him off of the murder charge by pleading insanity, which if these stories are true, I believe he was.
