Happy belated birthday! I just hit 68 a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been starting to get depressed thinking that all the good stuff is in my rear-view, but your post cheered me up a bit. Glad to hear you’re still enjoying life and you’re 13 years older then me! I’ve got at least another 13 years!
      Peace,

I, too , met Jim Capaldi at the NAMM Show in Anaheim CA years ago along with session drummer, Jim Keltner. I was able to add both of their signatures to a 20" Zildjian China Cymbal which now has 137 additional signatures of the music world's greatest recording drummers, percussionists and drum educators. Have know Walfredo Reyes Jr for many decades. He is also one of the greatest now drumming with Chicago.

He doesn't need to project any attitude - because he can prove so much as a singer, as a songwriter, as a guitarist, or as a keyboardist that he doesn't need to. It's the guys who aren't sure of their talent, who suspect that they're just lucky, who have the ego problems.

I saw him a few years ago open for the Allmans. He did a complete block of Traffic Then some single songs from Blind Faith and a few other Albums he's put out during the years. He played Keys, Guitar and Sax. So, when it was time for him to come out and Jam with the Allman;s , Greg Allman just had him sing. No instruments. Steve so upstaged the Allman;s. He was just smiling with his hands behind his back, He was definitely speaking to the crowd with his eyes. Greg Allman was just pissed. Never shook his hand or said anything to Steve. I like the Allmans;s also. Buttttt, they should have opened for Steve.

Yes he was and still is. Winwood came up old school. Old school has been obliterated for the likes of (boring and disconcerting and redundant) rap and hip hop and pop sludge that are so autotuned, melodies chopped up to Hell, every "singer" sings the exact same patterns of notes because two guys in Nashville literally produce all this junk. to become a star you gotta bend over wide open and take it up every orifice from old Jewish men who own and run the entire business since Marconi.

Good god - who would have ever expected that the little kid I saw behind that big B3 in the SDG in '67, who was blowing us away even then!, would still be cranking for over 50 effing years! I was at this performance. When my buddies and I decided to go to this event, we really didn't review the list of acts scheduled to appear. We had a very good spot not too far from the right side of the stage, far enough back that we could enjoy the music without the crush of people closer in. Anyway, we were sitting there, and the announcer introduced Traffic. I was flabbergasted! I never thought Id ever see Traffic live, and there they were! What a great set! Traffic, Joe Cocker, and Nine Inch Nails were the highlights of the whole festival for me.

He was recognised in the 1960s as a very talented teenager, playing and singing with The Spencer Davis Group, by musicians and fans alike.

Signs of a great band. The live version sounds almost better than the album track, and this is a complex song with different parts for each instrument. What a great concert. When I first heard "Low spark" I didn't get it. It did have nuances that intrigued me and something deeper inside me connected with it. I had heard "Dear Mister Fantasy" first and although it was not really poignant to me at the time, I really didn't understand what a master musician and arranger Steve Winwood is until I saw him in concert with Eric Clapton at Madison Square garden. His music had flitted in and out of my years passing by, but once I understood his back story and "Gimme Some Lovin" was tagged to him, I dug deeper and started opening up to his catalog. Now I am firmly convinced that I wasted so many years not treating myself to his discography. One recent find was "One more morning". It has church, jazz, soft ballad facets and moving segues into deep thoughts and feeling. I was at work, turned on my headphones and it had me weeping as it moved me to think about all those who had gone on before me and how I miss them. I am sure as they were dying they were thinking "Just one more morning with all these that I love". Death is surely worse for the survivors, but that song and hits like "Every Mother's son", "Valerie", "Roll with it", "John Barleycorn must die", my favorite "Can't find my way home", "Pearly Queen", his hits with Blind Faith, "Medicated Goo" and "Low spark..." just give me something my soul needs. Thank you Steve Winwood, other than meeting Jesus Christ and two other men, you are on my top five list...God bless you and I hope to meet you someday. CJR

HE (STEVE WINWOOD) WANTED HIS VOICE TO SOUND LIKE RAY CHARLES..THE RESULT WAS AN EVEN GREATER VOICE IF THAT'S POSSIBLE..THE MUSICAL GENIUS PLAYS EVERY INSTRUMENT IN THE WORLD AND PRODUCED HIS OWN ALBUMS..

70 here. Saw them at the Albert Hall in 69 with Jimi Hendrix and in 71 at the Fairfield Halls Croydon (the “Canteen” album) and then many years later Stevie at the Montreux Jazz Festival - always had something about them as a band and that centred around Stevie - a true virtuoso.

Brilliant group of musicians. Seems most of them are multi instrumental. Stevie Winwood is one hell of a musician! Love the way the flute comes into the song "Mozimbique"and changes the tone of the song! Herbie Mann on steroids.

The guys did a great job of putting this together. Runs a close second to the original. I love the music of traffic. I find original and soothing and stimulating at the same time, So rare. I think they should be in the hall of fame.

Great post. Glad I got to see him with Blind Faith the day man first landed on the Moon(!) in 1969. Followed him since he blew me away with his soulful pipes on Spencer Davis Group's Gimme Some Lovin and I'm A Man in 1966. Traffic was one of the best groups ever and their 2nd American release was fantastic (with Dave Mason).

Great show!! As great and versatile as Stevie is, Randall Bramblett is doing an outstanding job on piano, organ, sax, and flute. Jim Capaldi also doing his thang. The whole group is at their very best for this one!!
