So many personalities. Mr. Van Zant kept them focused long enough to make some of the best music ever made. Godalmighty what a great "BAND"! Straight up bad ass.
Just keep getting better. The original that is. Still Bad Ass 2022. Ronnie lives thru these songs. i can feel em.
Amen great music last forever and this great FUCKING BAND proves it 40 years later RIP Vanzant and crew ♥️♥️🤘🤘👍

Ronnie Orchestrated their Talents like a Master Musical Conductor. Skynyrd was Perfection!!
@@MomentsDivine Poor Ronnie, always herding cats. Did a hella job of it,too. Not bad for a short kid from Shanty Town! Hat's off to RVZ--what a badass...
RIP Gary Rossington today March 5, 2023
These 80-90s rockers should have listened .. don’t mess with the needle ..
Taxi driver lately told me it's "Rock-n-Toll Desease"
Billy Powell an amazingly humble man.
As I was, standing in front of an icon...
asking if I could sit at his table. He welcomed
me to sit down, I said something bout' fishin'
and he just smiled and laughed. What a kind
young man, talked with me bout' nuthin' and
made my life different today cuz I met Billy Powell
face to face. Treasured experience. Thank you
Billy Powell for being approachable, yer' one
of a kind my friend. Peace and love, God bless you!
His mother raised Billy to be a classical pianist, but he joined Skynyrd as a young man and the rest was history!
Read a article billy was working setting up the stage an such..an ronnie heard him tunning a piano an immediately hired him to play in the band...true story...
I was around 12 when my Mom told me and my brother that their plane had went down. Of course now I'm 57 and can remember it just like it was yesterday. Always loved this band and will never stop
The greatest southern rock band that ever was.... They'll NEVER be another like them.... GIMME BACK MY BULLETS.....
The greatest band ever, that's my opinion.
thesmokinggun42 Agrees all great . They paid lotsa dues too at hell house like leon says it paid off
tommy marsha lol.....johnny is a hack job and Rickey is a clown
***** Idk I think I might've. It's my opinion, didn't say it had to be yours. And actually I think Gary Rossington might agree with you, I've heard he's big into the Beatles. As well as Steve Gaines who got into guitar after seeing the Beatles in concert.
ogrebattle22763 "Southern Rock was Lynyrd Skynyrd. And make no mistake....Lynyrd Skynyrd was Ronnie VanZant." Guitar Player Magazine.
best 3 guitar players ever. that's right, 3
Fatz Treeboy Allen Collins certainly ranks among the all time guitar players...easily top five.
"Can't smoke it or drink it the hell with it." R. Van Zandt
Skynyrd was my first concert, Oct 16, 1977; their plane went down four days later. I didn't believe it when I heard about it.
😢😢😢😢
Simply awesome. In my opinion one of the 5 best modern music bands EVER !!! I just feel like crying sometimes listening to some of their anthems. Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd :-)

Nobody comes close to match their talent !
Agreed!
Ronnie must have been made of swagger! What a cool stage vibe he had... not to mention his singing. Just seems to be so natural and honest. I was 10 y/o in '77. Wish i could have seen them at least once.
I was 10 years old in 77 and I remember it like yesterday. Their music takes me back to those very days when when life was good.
I turned 16 a month before the crash and for me and all my friends October 20, 1977 is the actual "Day the music died"
@robertboyle4445 you just did!
I was 18 when pronounced hit the radio waves, freebird made this guitar player want to practice all the time and thanks to Skynyrd, Alman bros, Tucker boys ARSl Wet WILLY etc. I had a great life,.... my guitar was mytrue love ... Dr. Don and the Witch Doctors to name 1 group . Many groups, too many honky tonks to remember ... I'm 70 now, still playing... I've always stayed busy playing guitar and singing. because I love music . my advice to young players is..... don't trip on the money cuz if you get good the money will come but if money is your motivation... lots of luck! and never turn down a gig... rock on!!

These guys are one of the bands that made me the guitar player I am today. I'm 57 years old. Alan Collins, Gary Rossington, and Steve Gaines showed me how to solo at an early age, thank you to you all, two in heaven and one still with us. Wish I could sit with Gary Rossington on a porch and just jam with him and thank him for teaching me to play solo guitar, they ALL taught me rhythm, I thank them as well. Because of these guys, I pushed myself to learn all the greats from the 1980's Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch and just kept going with todays best,,, Tobin from Animals as leaders!! IMHO, They were the Stones of the Southeast.
What a flashback. I was at this concert at the front of the stage, right in front of Rossington. Artimus broke a drumstick that went skittering across the stage, into my hand & I'm actually holding it right now. Billy Jones of the Outlaws joined them on "T for Texas". Bob Welsh's band Paris opened, the Outlaws were on 2nd. One of my all-time favorite Winterland concerts. Some of u posters seem to think not having a 3rd guitarist means the band wasn't at full strength but I disagree; I had seen Skynyrd before with Ed King but it wasn't that good of a show. Sometimes less is more. Rossington & Collins really cut loose here, check it out, y'all.
I read comments sections of live shows for exactly this kinda thing, someone who was there pops up with stories. Love it. Thanks man. I dig all the lineups through '77, this lineup is special in it's own way, Gary gets showcased a little more and that's cool.
Only if I could have been a friend of yours you may have said... Hey mann I'm going to see this bad ass band tonight. Wanna go?
I was there also, can't remember much, right upfront.

Very underrated for sure
But Allen Collins is the better of the 2
@@johnvreeland5995 true but Gary had some of the best solo spots I ever heard

I like the way Ronnie sang and would emphasize the end and start of his lyrics with little clicks, squeals, “heys”, “woos” “na na nas” and grunts. He ruled that stage.

Gary Rossington was at the peak of his powers here with that distinctive bluesy smoldering style. A few months later Steve Gaines would come aboard and they’d be back to the triple guitar lineup.
He played with all his heart
Yup, he's playing a lot more lead during this period. Proof that it was always he and Allen's band, and they could always hold it down.

Allen played that solo so well I love this version so much ...also played like this at Knebworth ...it is a little different than the solo at Oakland where Ronnie cut him off a little quicker there in Oakland for some reason...Here and Knebworth he turned him loose....The longest version of the solo I remember was the one in Jacksonville May 1, 1976 He really turned them loose that night! Sadly it was the last time they played with Ronnie here in their hometown. They were supposed to play at the Sunshine Jam in the Gator Bowl a few months later in July but Ronnie was unable to perform. Shame there was no film of the Jacksonville May 1, 1976 show ....it was real special there were so many people there ...the police did not even try to limit how many people squeezed in there ....it was like that for Led Zeppelin in 1973 as well ....they just did not want to have a riot with that many people ...I heard that there was 20k+ at both of these shows ...the old coliseum sat 12k lol...I believe it ...The concourses outside the arena were completely filled all the aisles were used as seats.
In 76 I was a young girl jamming out every night on my 8 tracks and two hugh speakers that were connected for realism.love this.
