People talk about all the great slide guitar players now that was around then , but look att how Duane could play then because he was called home in his early 20s , very early. Just think what he would be playing like if he had been around the whole time like Clapton is . WOW . RIP Duane
I was 17 in 1970 and they were still not real well known when this was recorded. This was a showcase for new bands at The Fillmore. Unbelievable band, sad that two crucial members died within two years of this show.
This was a magical time of music making. I am 75 and still relishing the the unity of this group of amazing musicians in a time when so much music is synthesised or copied or digitally manipulated. The Allman Brothers were original and so creative in their music making from what came out of their heads and their hands.
My friends and I started going to concerts there and we always bought tickets for the next rock show before it happened we always had front seats My first show was Johnny Winter The stage was black I was in the front row middle and I saw someone walking across the stage and all of a sudden a white light came on right in front of me and I was amazed to see Johnny Winter standing right there oh my God the best years of my life

My neighbor Dennis North dedicated his youth to this music. As his wife put it in his obituary he was a prolific musician and I know his inspiration was Dwayne Allman and Dicky Betts. Jasper Mills and Allman Brothers highlighted my youth. I miss them both.

Thanks to Dennis North Monty Parky Bob Coker, Dick Reeves and LaDonna Stinson’s brother for standing with me after the concert at Prether’sLodge outside Xenia. I've read many comments on how young The Brothers were, but just as amazing is from the time that Gregg joined the band until Brother Duane left, was only 30 months! Let that soak in for a little bit...
How about some love for Dickie Betts. Not only was he a fantastic guitarist. He wrote many of their greatest instrumentals. He brought a lot of the jazz feel. The man gets hardly any credit.
The last time I saw Dickie, he was being dragged back (by roadies) to the tour bus parked near the Stone Pony, his boot tips dragging along the sidewalk, drunk as a skunk.

Yes I love this band. I am 55 and they are my favorite of all time. I still have the album from when I was a kid. I have it on my ipod. However I have looked for years to find a video with "You don't love me" on it. That is their greatest epic of all. It was part of the concert and on the album. I loved that song for my whole life. However you don't have it here and it is part of the concert. I guess nobody recorded it that day in 1970. If not we are missing a true part of Allman Brrothers history. Duanne was the greatest of all time. Greg
+galdrededd This concert was filmed as a feature for television about the Fillmore East. I believe there were four bands. Each performance was in the vicinity of 30-35 minutes. This was the entire Allman Brothers set this particular night. "You Don't Love Me" was not performed at this show. The television show aired, but the Allman Brothers performance was cut because of issues with the audio quality. Gregg's vocals were pretty weak in the mix for the first 1/4 of their set.
Duane and Dick are rock legends and these concerts at Fillmore are some of the best rock shows ever recorded. The Band was a perfect mix of Santana idea( guitar tone, percussion and double drums) , Paul Butterfield, Doors -Grateful" psychedelic acid rock and Cream approach. It´s not strange and for me it`s an incredible fact, that great Elvis Bishop plays with them here. Greg always sings great with that soul and blues approach. Unique in their rock style. Zappa always said incredible things about this band. Thin lizzy were a super band also very influenced by them. However, I think that they would have sounded much better with one drums only and with some winds or armonicist instead that percusionist.
@@thomasskladany7760 That they did! The guy that yells that out on their Fillmore East album. For those who may not know, there were two Fillmore East concerts. The second one was for special guests only. I think the Brothers started about 2am and quit about 7am. This one was recorded on the radio and was the last concert at the Fillmore East!
Sometimes the planets line up just right, sometimes the randomness of fate, the luck of the draw will unite people who possess extraordinary abilities on their own, but who join together to create something that is a force of nature in it's day, and then goes on to withstand the test of time. Some examples might include: This version of the Allman Brothers Band The 1927 Yankees (look up the stats) The Honeymooners The Beatles The 3 Stooges (with Curly) Sometimes the combination of the people involved is so perfect, so absolutely right, that the combined effort becomes a synergism, and the whole is greater than the sum of its individual parts. I personally have seen and heard every incarnation of this band except the last one with Derek Trucks, they are all first rate, world class, and unforgettable. But this combination of human beings has an extra dimension to it that defies description. There's something going on here that words can't define.
Interesting you mentioned the Beatles. A video just came out on the 16 of two mini cassettes, recorded by George, titled ‘Last Will and Testament of George Harrison’ made in the hospital while recovering from being stabbed several times. I think it dispels all the rumors and innuendo spread about. I’ve watched several old Beatles videos, and they just weren’t the same after 1966. It’s very obvious! The truth goes way down the rabbit hole.
@@rayburnyarborough4695 I absolutely agree with you ten thousand percent. What it was exactly that caused this has been open to speculation for nearly 60 years. Several likely possibilities include: Bob Dylan suggesting that their lyrics were lacking in relevance. The acid experiences George Harrison's interest in Eastern philosophy The possibility that Paul McCartney was killed and replaced with somebody else Sinister scheming and manipulation by the Aleister Crowley freaks at the Tavistock institute Yoko Ono These are just a few of the well known things that happened to those guys, but in the larger context, it really all adds up to the simple fact of living life and growing in different directions as a result of experiences and being influenced by them. The Beatles were not unique in that respect. They were just like everybody else, but the ability to interpret all of this and create music out of it all is the thing that made them great, and the reason they have stood the test of time, just like the Allman Brothers.
@@jpalberthoward9 Tavistock and MI-5 were involved. Personally, I don’t think John ever got over his grief. One of the last times George talked to John, John was going to put out the truth. That probably got him clintonized. All the evidence on the tapes is overwhelming. If you’re interested I can try to send you the link. Screwtube doesn’t like to make it available. The site has lots of very interesting stuff on it. This just came out 1-16-23.
@@jpalberthoward9 It definitely sounds like George on the tapes. The details he goes into about all the clues John interjected into their music and album covers is intriguing to say the least. Rita, the guy named Maxwell, back masking on the records. It all makes perfect sense to me.
Sometimes I think it was on purpose. Duane was often accused of being out of tune. Big deal! He was so proficient that he could make anything sound good. He was quoted once saying, “my guitar will be so connected to my brain, that my fingers won’t have to worry where to go.”
This is NOT the full concert, they CUT out In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, get it right! That being said, arguably the best American band! RIP Dickey Betts!
This is awesome, of course, but most of the posts you see of this concert do not include Liz Reed -- although there is a shitty quality version of just that song out there -- so this is just an absolute gem. Thanks for posting!
'In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' is also in this video, starts at 13:55 then Whipping Post at 23:20 not sure why the uploader left it out of the description up above but it's there, also the voice from the beginning until right after the 11 minute mark has been digitally altered to be audible as it's virtually inaudible on the original, not sure which is worse but this video is a clinic on how to play together as band, none better than the original Allman Brothers Band.
It just kills me that we get closeups of Butch's face while Skydog is ripping off insane slide solo's. Still tremendously happy for the footage but MAN.
+Jason Feiertag ?? WHERE ARE YOU AT? IN OTHER WORDS WHAT SHOW ARE YOU WATCHING? ha..Man it's always right to go in different directions when playing, See I'm an old dead head so after watching Bob & Jerry do it all the time I got used to it. Playing is like a flight that goes no where to me..I have been playing for over 45 years now and I always space out in other directions.
Look on another video- there are several different videos with your song💗
Love and Miss ABB💘💔
❤❤❤❤
Get down! 🫡😎✌️
Duane Allman was 23 years old here.
Damn, but every time I hear em they get better. How's that happen?
I was a young kid in 1972 saw them at Mar Y Sol Music Festival in Puerto Rico. Just a few month's after Duane's departure.
Any other bands hearing/seeing this in 1970 would just quit or go and practice
🦆 Ladies and Gentleman: Duane Allman, Berry Oakley, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Jaimoe, Gregg Allman - and Thom Doucette…
Who could ask for anything more ? PLAY ALL NIGHT !!!
How were people sitting in the seats lol good lord this is the best
Que lastima qué duele allman haya muerto tan joven tenía solo 24 años y era un excelente guitarrista
14:03 is Elizabeth Reed
Sometimes the planets line up just right, sometimes the randomness of fate, the luck of the draw will unite people who possess extraordinary abilities on their own, but who join together to create something that is a force of nature in it's day, and then goes on to withstand the test of time.
Some examples might include:
This version of the Allman Brothers Band
The 1927 Yankees
(look up the stats)
The Honeymooners
The Beatles
The 3 Stooges (with Curly)
Sometimes the combination of the people involved is so perfect, so absolutely right, that the combined effort becomes a synergism, and the whole is greater than the sum of its individual parts.
Several likely possibilities include:
Bob Dylan suggesting that their lyrics were lacking in relevance.
The acid experiences
George Harrison's interest in Eastern philosophy
The possibility that Paul McCartney was killed and replaced with somebody else
Sinister scheming and manipulation by the Aleister Crowley freaks at the Tavistock institute
Yoko Ono
These are just a few of the well known things that happened to those guys, but in the larger context, it really all adds up to the simple fact of living life and growing in different directions as a result of experiences and being influenced by them.
@@jpalberthoward9 One last thing: I don’t think I can give the rest of the title of the video. Screwtube!
amazing..............thanx
I mean these guys were in their early twenties……boggles the mind….
At about 7:05, Duane bends a note during his solo on dreams a little off pitch & Gregg smirks at him, like oops big bro, you're only human
Sometimes I think it was on purpose. Duane was often accused of being out of tune. Big deal! He was so proficient that he could make anything sound good. He was quoted once saying, “my guitar will be so connected to my brain, that my fingers won’t have to worry where to go.”
Duane is absolutely unreal. So fluid in and out of major and minor then the notes bleed together but still are separate. Goat
+AOB
But here, Elizabeth Reed is included, beginning at 14:01
Awesome. About as good as it can, given the age.
13:55 In Memory of Elizabeth Reed
'In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' is also in this video, starts at 13:55 then Whipping Post at 23:20 not sure why the uploader left it out of the description up above but it's there, also the voice from the beginning until right after the 11 minute mark has been digitally altered to be audible as it's virtually inaudible on the original, not sure which is worse but this video is a clinic on how to play together as band, none better than the original Allman Brothers Band.
AMEN !!!
1:37 Butch looks like a hologram
It just kills me that we get closeups of Butch's face while Skydog is ripping off insane slide solo's. Still tremendously happy for the footage but MAN.
Damn you, Harley-Davidson!
As good as it gets.
frustrating camera work, while Duane is wailing the camera is pointed up his nose, but will take whatever I can get, reminds me of Woodstock
the tuning
Dicky warped into some other dimension on whipping post.
If you play the same song/tune the same over and over again, it's just repetition, If you change it up every time then it's a different tune no?
@@ripplemeinwater1 Duane and the boys were 100 times better and more skilled then Jerry and the Dead. I like both bands, but it is obvious.
@@michaelcraig9449 Nah Jerry was at their level.
Listen to Lonely Avenue by Jerry
@@michaelcraig9449 No no no no no. Duane was absolute master of his realm, but Jerry the curandero of the guitar flew in realms beyond.
The talent was thru the f in roof..siesta key..68..how great a time we all had..simple times,beautiful girls,Allman bros..red rover red rover send someone over..lol..island park..hippies every where...EAT A 🍑 FOR PEACE 🔥
Concert was no different at the Spectrum in Philadelphia.
whipping post??
in memory of elisabeth reed¡¡¡¡
My friend, Voodoonola "patched" this "Dreams" vocal with another "Dreams" vocal from a different show. Fantastic job he did, in my opinion.
Hey brothers and sisters, if you’re not familiar with Dayne Peachman, check him out! He has a huge collection of the ABB music on YT
The quality of camcorders in 1970. At least the audio is top shelf.
full concert, 33 minutes?
