Continue to declutter, new to your channel. Thanks for the ideas! Do you have a video on what kids do to help clean and declutter? Like a daily chore/declutter chart etc?

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I have not done a video like that really. We don’t have any charts or systems - we just all try to do our part to be mindful of the things we are using and willing to let things go when they are no longer useful or wanted. ❤️

I am about to begin my third year of decluttering. My eyesight is failing and I have multiple health problems so I'm determined to get it done. I can't believe I'm still doing this but I don't have any storage space at all. My reward when completed is to get some help around my home. I've mentioned before how much I appreciate your calm approach as it's just what I need at this point in my life. I hope I can continue to watch you if my eyes co-operate. Happy New Year to you!

Asking for help is a wonderful idea! It can be difficult for anyone to take in decluttering - but especially so if you have any health issues. ❤️

I am almost to the end of decluttering things I inherited when my father passed, and then my mother passed. I have worked very hard to keep the important things in the family, without cluttering the lives of my siblings and nieces and nephews, etc. My mom had some lovely things and my dad was a collector of memories. So it has taken time. But I’m getting there!

  • @lindadavisondodson8825

I’m decluttering AGAIN. I’ve found it takes time and courage to figure out what needs to be decluttered. This time, I’m hitting on a new category.
Things that are not my identity, but that of a loved one, e.g. my father was an excellent watercolor painter. I always admired his work, and have many of his paintings in my house. When he passed, I inherited his beautiful oak map cabinet full of watercolor papers of great value, his watercolor paint, his brushes, and his entire collection of research books on barns, boats, cottages, etc. I thought, perhaps I would take up watercolor painting, but after eight years, I haven’t. So I gave the valuable Windsor Newton, paints to a young woman who was a prolific painter. I sold sheets of his beautiful papers to another watercolor artist. And now I’m ready to have that same artist go through all dad’s books to see what he might like to have. It took time for me to realize that I was not going to take watercolor lessons. If you hang onto the tubes of paint too long, they dry up, so I wanted to pass them along while they were still of value. Dad was very thrifty and would appreciate that thought. My friend really enjoyed buying some of the beautiful papers for his paintings. And hopefully, there will be some books that he will enjoy as well.
I have been storing dad‘s identity, but not mine. I realize there was even some pressure when he once told me, he thought I had more artistic ability than he did. That comment really surprised me and made me feel like I should try watercolor painting.
But in these past years, I have become a published writer and my first book is for sale on Amazon. I’m a writer. I am a designer. I am called to the nations to pray. I’m an adventurer. So I give myself permission this year to nurture my own identity.

My bestie Liz is the executor of my estate. I showed her how I had things organized and labeled with a long list. But I know she will greatly appreciate all my downsizing to simplify matters for her should I pass first. The last thing I want is to be a burden to her after I’m gone.😊

That is a beautiful sentiment for your friend! We often don’t want to think about life after we’ve passed…and what we will leave behind for others. But it is the responsible thing to do! ❤️

My colorful 12” x 12” storage boxes full of art supplies are designed for the “free” table at the local Christian school. My friend who teaches high school there says the elementary teachers will just love anything like that.
I’m one who has enjoyed having an excess of notebooks. I am passing the spiral bound ones onto the school also
I figure if there is something I really think I’ll use, I can save one small container full. If I regret, having given anything away, I will just go to Hobby Lobby and buy what I need for a current project.
All the cute papers and stickers I bought for scrapbooking years ago are rarely used. I will pass those along.
All my mom‘s embroidery cloths, some hoops, and design books will be passed on - - I hear there’s a teacher at Montessori school that is teaching her kids to embroider and cross stitch. Rather than taking up space in my house, it will give me great joy to know children, or nurturing their creativity with my things. Teachers are among our underpaid contributors, so I hope they will feel happy about getting free supplies, too. 😀

When I was overwhelmed with emails, I made a goal to unsubscribe to 20 a day. I often ended up doing more as I would sit in front of the tv. Now, I can delete all emails daily. I review the ones I need to read and delete or unsubscribe the rest. It is the most freeing thing I've done in years.🎉🎉🎉

For many years, I had a community meeting hall that I rented for all kinds of events, like receptions, weddings, meetings, 80th birthday parties, etc. etc. I had 800 events over a seven year period.
Last summer, I took 10 tubs of silk flowers, and made some really pretty bouquets with them. I sold some bouquets at an antique Mart sale, and then I donated bouquets to teen challenge, and they sold them.
I had many sets of dishes, glasses, and all kinds of accouterment for my hospitality gift. But in the last three years, I have had no big dinner parties. So I am downsizing all kinds of hospitality supplies. That’s the old me. The new me is now taking trips to Italy, and Austria, and South Korea . I am less homebound and more on the go. My financial planner tells me I should go while I have my health and my wealth.🇮🇹🇦🇹🇰🇷✈️😀❤️

This sounds so wonderful.. NOW. However I am not good at keeping motivated.. please keep this going!! I have kept the Bathrooms pretty minimal. That is a bonus, the subscriptions are a must do! Also un-subscribe daily! To e-mails. The fridge out side it is just fine. Noting at all on front. One side has a basket to catch bread & Chip clips The other side is empty too!
Woo- hoo me!! I have another one. Re work your keep and file box on your computer. I clean my purse out every 30th of each month.
My hubby is shouting AMEN darlin’ to the adult kid room, my Daughter wants her room to be a shrine to her…. LOL. Not really but I am ready to make it not so much. The boys are fine with out stuff. I appreciate you and your mannerisms. Thank you I appreciate you.

I am nearly three years into my decluttering journey. I find myself decluttering a lot. I use the space under my bed to store my off-season clothes. I decluttered my email back in November and December. Now my email is much more manageable.

For the emails, a mentor of mine goes through her emails every Wednesday, in addition to decluttering her inbox etc., this is when she replies to emails.
Something I decluttered over the last year, which has made a HUGE difference is decluttering my social media, not just the accounts that I follow, but the ones that I use. I went down to two (Instagram and TH-cam…while technically not Social Media, it’s an account that I use).

Old bike tires (I don’t even have a bike anymore)
Potting soil out on my balcony (I live in an apartment so it’s getting dumped into MIL’s garden)
An extra tv we don’t use
Bottle of champagne from our wedding we are never going to drink bc we don’t like champagne
    Old shoes and boots
    Old beat up cat toys
Boxes for new tech we got for Christmas

Thanks as always and happy new year blessings! My goal is less physical and more mental decluttering of toxic thought patterns and replacing them with the word of God. Regarding photos on the phone:
I had been taking my cell phone to the local computer store and having all my photos downloaded onto those little electronic sticks. Sorry can’t remember the name. Then I learned those aren’t very Hable, so I bought an SSD, and will take all those little sticks and my phone to the computer store and have all the photos downloaded onto the SSD. Then I will go through the SSD and eliminate all, but , the best quality.

E-mail tip: Every morning (when I sit down in front of my computer) I spend about 5 minutes to go through my emails in the inbox - I also check the spam folder - and the photos I took on my phone the previous day. It´s the very first thing I do. I don´t read email or reply to any emails, I just delete and organize. Same with photos. I actually started January last year, because I was so overwhelmed with both emails and photos. Now I always know where to find a specific email or photo.

In 2024, I've decluttered coffee and drink tea instead. Apart from my stomach feeling so much better, it's less sugar because I'm only adding coconut milk instead of a liquid creamer and it creates less waste.

If it's under a bed, in the back of a closet, or on the top shelf of a closet - these are hiding spaces for things that aren't being used or needed. So just close your eyes, grab these things, and take them to the donation center.
