    What are some ways that you can simplify YOUR home life?

    A minimalist home is a haven of peace. Even watching you as you reset is so enjoyable 😁🥰

    It's so soothing to watch your daily tasks carried out in a highly simplified environment. I am liking this "warm minimalism" thing.
    Every day I try to declutter something. It has really helped with my problem with procrastination. I've simplified my cooking, my kitchen inventory.

    Hello to Arrow Hill Cottage!
    As a designer, I completely understand what you mean by having your home designed yourself (according to your needs). It's a blessing! Your home and the place you chose to build it is just magical...
    1. Christmas decoration.
    I saw your video as you decorated your home for the holidays. Believe it or not, after the video finished, I pulled down my new sofa cover, which I ordered online a year ago, and loved the quality and the color, but unfortunately, it didn't fit as it was supposed to.
    Then, I went through my few decorations and realized I have some beautiful ones I have never used. I grabbed the bag, folded everything, and walked into the donation center 20 minutes from my house. Lol. You are very inspirational; thank you🙂!
    2. I don't have too much stuff, but I live in a small house, which is otherwise well-designed but has almost no storage. Thus, I have to be very careful what I bring in. And though I think I am, things sometimes get out of control, lol.
    3. I love your after-holiday reset and working on my own. My main goal for this year is to keep my flat surfaces clean and eliminate the visual clutter - the only thing that actually has kept me from achieving a simplified home.
    Thank you for the inspiration and great vibes coming from your videos!
    Happy New Year!

    I don't know your kids ages but I started my kids at 10 to do their own laundry and bed sheets and dishes. Actually, they can help at any age. It makes them feel productive even if they don't feel like it.

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They help out around the house. I prefer to do the laundry and they prefer to do other things like yard work. It’s a good balance - but yes they all know ‘how’ to do laundry! ❤️

    Daily routines, declutter as I go, 1 in 1 out or sometimes 2 out are ways for me to keep our house simplified. This year I am trying to say yes less often, to keep open space in my calendar and simplify my life. To be intentional in every aspect of my life, that is my goal. Thanks for yet again a great video. Lots of love!

    Yay Angela 🌲 the time at the end of the day when everything's done is always very nice/ - what do you do in the dryer when the bottom sheet wraps around all the other bedding & it doesn't all get dry?? And also I saw Alan Watts saying" if there's really only NOW - then you're only ever washing just one dish at a time!!

    • @taniayoungson5614
      @taniayoungson5614 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I set the timer on my dryer for a shorter cycle. When I hear the bell, I can untangle the bedding. Then, reset to continue drying.
      That's a great quote... I like it, so true!

      Yes that does happen on occasion for sure! I try to first make sure all bits are separated before I throw them in the dryer. This usually reduces the twisting up issue! Hope you are doing well! ❤️

      I think I have pretty eclectic taste when it comes to books. I’m currently reading My Ever Dear Charlie: letters home from the Dakota territory - it is a fascinating collection of letters sent back and forth between family members who were attempting to gain land in the Dakotas during the Homestead Act! ❤️

    My elderly cat Coco is having bouts of urine “accidents.” And then idk which one is “upset” and squirting around for turf (I have a prime “suspect” lol-Alpha/Alphie. Of course they’re al fixed so at least its not the virile funk smell-not a thing I could live with lol. And really the issue isn’t me smelling anything as much as they smell it and another cat wants to potty there etc). Well anyways, unbeknownst to me he “squirted” on the bottom of the fridge front and then she “went” there. So basically I had to figure out how to remove the bottom grille thing and clean it. (As well as under and around the floor etc). It was so dirty and full of lint and fur that I wondered if the people who had it before ever cleaned it either. 😂😂 But this for me is “winter.” Cats inside more and sometimes going potty in weird places and so on. I guess tho I’ve had it much worse until I learned how to “work with” cats around this issue. (Aka their stress or anxiety or physical conditions etc). For that reason I just never spend a lot on furniture and such. The fridge I got on Marketplace for $75 and it’s been going strong still for maybe 5 years. Spent $100 on an ice maker and that’s it. Also still works very well. Mostly Bcuz I never know what these cats will get up to. Thank God for peroxide and other powerful enzymatic cleaners also. 😅😅 It’s like I don’t even need a “deep clean” list as these cats will lead the way and I’ll find myself randomly tackling something weird like that when something like this happens. Lol.
    I think I am ready for a tree change tho but looks like Amazon has some good prices so I’ll prob just get one at some point during the year for next year. I wasn’t gonna put stuff out but then I remembered that I made it easier for myself last year and everything was set up in about an hour. Such as leaving the renter table Tree fully in tact (with fairy lights etc) and leaving the balls on the foil tree (well most of them stayed on lol). I got rid of a few random things but most of the bulk I got rid of happened the year before. And I’ve now decided that I’m not really a “mini Christmas village” type of person. I think I like mostly the soft white lights so this year I grabbed up the extra fairy light roll and ran it across the living room. I think I’m just gonna keep that there until it dies. 😂😂. And I do similar on my porch. I just get discount holiday lights and use them to see but not be too bright. When the purple Halloween ones died I just put up the white ones and leave them up for “porch lights.” They’re still kicking. The only other thing really is a couple of in tact door wreaths so I keep those too as it only takes a few minutes to put them up (or take them back down and store them).
    They also peed on this kind of plastic cube system I had. I wound up seeing that I really only need 5 and not 12 and got rid of a lot of “house” storage (I have to keep a bit more than average Bcuz of the rental business). Easy enough to clean but not if loaded with 12 cubes of linens and house stuff tho. Lol. It wasn’t bad before except for in the event of kitty meyhem, I can only keep “cleanable” things. So I put my 5 cubes in the big closet and locked them out. Lol. Summer etc is a lot easier tho as they just run out and play and pee in the yard. Lol. Even so, we are still doing pretty well with “pee pad training” most days for old lady Coco and Alphie seems to have calmed down a bit (I think he and Mr Black were having a bit of a tiff for awhile). Lol.
    Well I have managed to ramble on again. Lol. Maybe write a book about why minimalism when you’re a cat lady….Bcuz cats pee. That’s why. 🤣🤣

    • @ArrowHillCottage
      @ArrowHillCottage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ha ha! Your last two sentences sum it all up! You have a good attitude about all the random cleaning you need to do for your kitties! I used to think that same way when my kids were little and couldn’t make it into the toilet or bucket if they were sick. So many random places cleaned! 🧼 ❤️

    • @goodenoughgirl8102
      @goodenoughgirl8102 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ArrowHillCottage Lol. IKR. Yes. Maybe say….Bcuz little kids and pets. I sometimes call it a day care or a zoo. Just “keeping the peace” all the time sort of and trying to not live in any kind of gross squalor. Lol. I think it’s the best way to cope tho. Good humor. 😅😅 (Not that I never get mad or cry or say Calgon take me away or anything but….lol).
      Who knows tho. I’m early Gen X so I could prob make a whole long comment just using lines from commercials and songs (like “It’s Miller time” or “Who let the dogs out?” and so on. Or various catch phrases like “You just can’t make this s**t up. 😂😂 (Or most anything from The Golden Girls like “Shady Pines Ma” or whatever Sophia might say lol). 🤣🤣 And the iconic “Whatever 🙄🙄🙄.” And we did have some crazies like Sam Kinison and various SNL shenanigans and all that back then. Lol. Sometimes it’s a great way to cope with some of the absurdity tho. For me it is anyways. Lol. Well I’ll stop. I guess just having a bout of nostalgia or something. Lots of funny quotes from the next generations and this generation I find funny also, but they are not really “PG-13” so much. Lol.
      Seriously tho. Like the cat pee under the thing I can’t get to. Utter too many expletives and say “ugh” 50 times and “Dry clean” it and brood for a couple of days preparing yourself to actually deal with it properly. Of course there is also puke and bouts of runny poop and bloody crime scene clean up (or illness and boogers and slobber and all that etc-just comes with the territory-but for me, pee is worse than them all lol). Then make jokes about it and maybe realize some things need a rethink. Lol. And you just have to finally concede that we mammals are pretty gross and accept that it’s just part of life. (When you seem to be so set in your “neat freak” ways lol).

      @goodenoughgirl8102 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@susanmakiha9838 Lol ikr. It is at least better tho when it can be redeemed with a powerful enzyme cleaner. But for me, that’s more like “pick your battles.” Lol. Not everything is worth the trouble.

    You have a beautiful home. I love the simplicity. It's very calming and it would be so easy to relax there.
    My husband and I enjoy reading. We relax with a book and our cats all the time.
    Habits simplify my daily life. Picking up regularly or putting items away the first time makes it easy to clean quickly. I prefer a space to have less visual clutter. Then, I can concentrate and enjoy cooking, reading, etc.

    Love all of these, and have found them to be true as I've spent almost a full year now decluttering and simplifying my home with my family. Another benefit for me, is the ability to make changes and adjustments to my daily schedules and routines with less stress. When there was tons of clutter everywhere, even little changes caused me a lot of stress. Now I feel far more flexible, relaxed, and can try adding or subtracting different activities and chores from my daily lists without the stress and worry of not being able to get things "cleaned up" or keep things from going "crazy". The more that I did while heavily decluttering has meant less and less I have to do now in lightly maintaining. It's so freeing, and bring so much peace and opportunities for quality, calmer family times. I love it. Thank you for your videos, they are a calm highlight to any day I watch them on!
