Actually true. MSC is the only game which simulates the risk/reward aspect of rallying. Yeet your Satsuma into a tree and it would take you hours just to start the rally again.
Rally is the most satisfying motorsport to watch. It's tense, brutal and incredible to see drivers tackle all sorts of terrain with nerves and balls of steel.
What traumatized me the most with the handling of WRC Generations is that I used to be able to pull some pretty good hairpin turns. Both WRC 9 & Dirt Rally 2.0. But in Generations I still have the tendency to over swing the back end of the car and end up doing 270' turn rather than 180. Drives me nuts.
@@ezeztztztz If it can help I sunk an extra 100 hours in the game since I left this comment. And the best recommendation I can give you is that on gravel you very, very rarely need to use the handbrake. Left foot braking will get the job done more than enough. So rather than pull the handbrake to start your drift/turn, just use the brake pedal. It's a little crazy how much you can make the car rotate with just the brakes. Also, as the channel owner said. The throttle control is even more important on this one. If you tend to keep it floored while doing a hairpin or 90' you may very well powerdrift yourself into a spin.

That score is too high ! why ? Blurry graphics on rtx 3080, DLSS just sucks and AA is non existente. Settings is a game of patience on his own. Pedals are not progressive, just on - off, FOV sucks, etc, etc ... Even 7 is a bit high. They took 6 years and still so many bugs and bad decisions. A pitty I may say.
Nice! Honestly, the Sweden Leagues event was epic. Hopefully the next one is as good. I didn't cover damage but I found out it is possible to DNF if you really drive like an idiot. Good times.
I have same feelings about it, still playing on gamepad, but driving wheel i buy for it 4 sure, and i cant stop raising sounds on my logitech z906, with enough bass, car landing after big jump is sick O_o
great review! i've been playing rally games since CMR 2.0 with my sidewinder ff wheel, rallisport on xbox was good fun :) if you havent tried any of these recent WRC8-10 games, i'd hope this review convinces you to give kylotonn a chance
The game is good. A logical evolution from previous ones. Because I am old school, I miss offline racing against AI. No single rally or championship mode at all. Again... I'm optimistic, Codies will fix this in the future... But to then, this is good stuff.😊

Dirt Rally series are minimal effort barebone games with _decent_ physics as it's saving grace, making online connection mandatory for the career and bunch of DLCs released near launch costing double the price of the game itself in DR2.0 was disgusting. The main Dirt series is, to say lightly, a mess; and now they're even choked by the greed incarnate that is EA. I can only see things going downhill.
WRCG is a great last hurrah (for now) and I hope they get their engine properly optimized/sorted/renewed going forward. I would love to see them take on something like a Sebastin Loeb Rally 2.0 and compete with codies for the rally crown. (RBR aside ;))
The WRC license is getting passed to codies next year, so we might see a WRC Dirt Rally if everything goes to plan. And, in my opinion, that could be the ultimate rally game

I only have WRC 7. Never got the other ones, because I was always waiting for a price drop. I love how these Kyloton rally games know what rally is about. It's about the stages and that's what makes the rally games of Kyloton so good. It was a shame they never implemented VR (would've gladly accepted some downgrade like they did with Dirt Rally on PSVR). WRC Generations seems ideal for me, since I haven't gotten 8, 9 and 10 (although apparently missing Australia from 8, but didn't 7 have Australia aswell?) Codemasters is under the EA flag now, right? I'm kinda worried the personality of the stages will disappear, as also the length of the stages. Time will tell.
Bought this for a tenner yesterday on PC, I've got a lowly Thrustmaster T300RS wheel and TP3A pedals, I hope i am going to get some enjoyment out of this game, Great review mate, Subbed and liked 👍

Great review! 👏 I’ve recently played through WRC4 on PS3 with loads of fun and just got Generations for my PS4 and I think it’s cool but man that is a huge leap in difficulty 😅 I’m also playing it with the Trustmaster T150 wheel and the FFB and vibration are crazy! 😅
3 crashes for me since early launch. I’m most thankful my 8k tv no longer screendoors! That gave me a headache… I Love the new handles, for me it finally surpassed DR2.0, in all but sound… DR2.0 just sounds like your there. Great Sean Song! Thanks Tribe!
It is not an easy game but I think this is the most natural and intuitive of all Kylotonn games so I think most players will have the greatest chance of driving better. In theory.
Just bought this looking forward to it! I tend to wait until all problems are fixed like I did with Cyberpunk and that worked out brilliantly as it’s one of the best games out there!

I'm fortunate enough and have worked long enough to get a decent PC. But I remember the struggle! Usually lowering shadow detail helps although I can't remember specifically for WRC Generations.
I'm loving this one too. Can't get enough of it. I have 8.5 hours into the PC version and haven't had a crash. All my sim gear is working well, SiMagic wheel and pedals with Aiologs Shifter and HB. I'm only playing on a laptop with RTX 3060 but frame rate is smooth at 1080p high (default) settings. Great game and may be the last rally game I buy for a while. I have uninstalled WRC 10.
I don't get it when people say that dirt 2 feels slippery compared to wrc, for me is the complete opposite. In wrc I can't grip on gravel, it always drifts outwards and the car barely turns, as if the front wheels never dig in when I shitf the weight to the front.

my last rally game was Dirt 4 and OMG I loved its handling with joystick. Does WRC Generations tend to be a SimCade like Dirt 4 was, or is it more like a tryhard simulator like Dirt Rally 2.0??
After trying ea wrc for a few weeks I bought wrc generations (I skipped only because of missing vr). And I have to say, VR mode aside (which is in wa wrc but totally broken), I think I prefer generations.
I have such a bad feel for distances, especially brake distances and also bad feeling about how fast I can take the next corner in this game :/ I miss VR so much. Its wonderful in Dirt Rally and probably would fix my issue with WRC Gen fully too. I have no idea which one is more realistic, but the physics are much more fun in Dirt Rally 2.0 for me. The cars in WRC feel sooo stiff in handling and the suspension feels super stiff too (everything bounces so hard)
Wish the sounds were better, especially for classic cars. Road noise is missing, sound in general lacks detail and immersion. Mix is bad too :( Rest is good.
Yea, no gravel sounds (only in heavy gravel) really removes immersion. Car sounds are pretty inconsistent but it is sufficient. Apart from that, I absolutely love the game. The physics feel just right (coming from an RBR fan btw) and the stage design is the best in the business.
I wonder if they threw in the Motion Sensor option for those of us who do not have a wheel. I hope so because the Motion Sensor is absolutely perfect for driving games....if you don't have a wheel. It needs to be a mandatory option for every racing game on the market. The only racing game I've seen it in is GTSport and for me it was a Godsend! Racing sims without the Motion Sensor eventually wrecks my hands and the fingers and I have to stop playing for a while and let my hands get back to normal. Needless to say with the Motion Sensor, my hands feel no pain whatsoever! ;) (FYI -- F12019 is the game that actually started hurting my hands couple of years back....because of the PS4 controller...any intense long term racing with That brick of a controller will wreck your hands eventually trust me! This is why im such a fan of the Motion Sensor..... Have you actually tried racing a F1 car for months and years plus any other intense online racing games with that Playstation's controller?? I can def race using it but as far as the hands and fingers are concerned...it is a nightmare!! Even RIDE4...I have to race on and off becuase the "no motion sensor option" in most racing games has bout done my hands in. Like I said...the only one I seen it in is GTSport. There some people with some good common sense to put it in their game. I hope the people at WRC has some good common sense and made the MS option avaliable.
I’m a casual player with controller. I play dr2 with all assists and enjoy my time usually. Would this be a good buy? Don’t plan on getting a wheel soon
Been playing these since WRC5 which I got on my PS Vita, then missed a couple till 8 which I got on my Switch, before getting 9 onwards on my PlayStation. Do love the series and the fact they keep what’s important, and then trying to improve those areas that need it the most. Just wish they could have kept the licence longer, as having all the FIA racing licenses under one developer means there is less competition between the different games. Am really not looking forward to what Codemasters do with it, since Dirt 5, and Dirt 4 which they just threw out and never bothered with adding anything to it, like adding new stages and areas. Just hope they don’t go down the lazy route as they seems to be doing with F1 lately, which is to try and monetise the hell out of it.
I was waiting for your review specifically. Watching this with my morning coffee. Now, I agree with everything you said but I wanted to ask this, do you think that the force feedback is a little bit different? I'm not saying it is bad, it is a big improvement over WRC10 but I still think that in terms of ffb alone, DR2.0 has the edge. Not by a huge margin, but a little bit. At the end of the day all of this does not matter as I too had a blast playing WRCG and It's finally great that rally fans have another game to invest their time into. As always, Nice review Ben.
I think it's probably not quite finished, some wheels seem broken and I believe we have some wheel related updates coming. Dirt Rally 2.0 started off bad with FFB so maybe we'll see Generations improve. Although there isn't as much incentive to do so for Kylotonn.
Thanks for the review i enjoyed 10 a bit and its super fun on g923. I may pick the game up on xbox series X. I'm personally iffy with code masters making the newer wrc games due to how screwy the last f1 game has been with glitches then updates constantly messing with the driving at times like what happened with dirt rally 2. I stopped playing dirt rally 2.0 after midway through season 1 due to how the game became unplayable for me with controller and wheel on xbox
I agree, people are quick to hate on Kylotonn but despite some flaws I really liked WRC 9, 10 and Generations. They are fun and we live in a time when barely any games launch perfectly. Those days are long gone, for better and for worse. Hopefully you enjoy the game if you get it. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the review! Given some time has passed and it's clear that there will be no more fixes, do you still feel that this is the best of the KT WRC games? I've been playing around with 9, 10, and Generations, trying to decide which game to dive into deeply. Generations feels just a little bit janky and unfinished in comparison to 10; like it would have benefitted from a few more months of polishing. On the other hand, it's got the most content, so I'm torn as to which game most deserves my attention. Since there's so much overlap/similarity amongst the three, it's unlikely I'll play more than one once I commit. And if it makes any difference to your response, I'm playing on PC with a controller; I'm unlikely to get a wheel in the foreseeable future.
WRC series, both 10 and generations seems to have some gravity, and scaling problems, sound problems, like a car standing still doesent have idle sound. Thankfully codemasters have got the license on WRC series now, so I bought this game in hope codemasters will get motivated enough to write one more line of quality code into the upcoming Dirt Rally 3.0 (Serialnumber: WRC23)
In Generations they actually forgot to include the sound of gravel hitting the floor of your car. It's in EVERY other WRC game. How that got past testing is insane to me. It really ruins immersion for me and I can't unhear it.
I only played rallt game 10years ago with RBR in keyboard. Now I just got a xsx with ts-xw. I am all in simracing. Acc of course. And looking sim rally as well. I have game pass so have the dr2.0. I felt the maneuvering is strangely hard of it. When i see wrc, i just feel the car’s movements and maneuvering are way better than dr2.0 even I have never played wrc in my life. So I will buy wrc10 and wrcg. Do you think wrc10 is also worth to buy or go straight to wrcg is better?
Have you tried RWD and other old historic vehicles? Is it any better than the previous game? For me it was the one thing that made me stay with DR2 instead of WRC10.
Historic stuff in WRC 10 is so bad that I prefer to ignore they exist, a real shame! WRC generations may be better but I don't believe it will give the same joy as driving a RWD on DR2.0 (hope I'm wrong)
Some moments of weird physics, but the extra weight of the cars seems to result in more rolling. I'd say that is more accurate. And it is possible to damage the car so much you can see the engine. It is better I think.
It's not really 85 cars. More like 85 liveries. There are 15 liveries in WRC Rally 1, but only 3 actual cars. Same for Rally 2. There are 5 cars but 27 liveries.
What? Does the Series X run at 4K/60 in performance mode compared to 2K/60 on PS5?! If so, I’m refunding my PS5 version and buy the Series X version. Please clarify
I guess if there's a glitch like that you could but I suspect the way a racing game is setup differs to an FPS, adventure game etc. I've seen people do ridiculous jumps in some games to speed things up!

Its still too forgiving as a Rally Game, too much arcade for my liking. Beam NG Drive and Richard Burns Rally are the only true rally simulators we can get as consumers.
Playing this on Ps5 and i found a lot ot glitches like when i made my own settings on the steering wheel (TGT 2) the game don't want to save the changes and feel like the graphic it's not good enough it's a lot ot shimmering everywhere wrc 10 for me it's better on 120 hz and even on balanced mode .....
Does anyone play on PS5? How’s the cabin view headlight? Is it still as dark as WRC 10? Really want to buy the game, but want to ensure if nightime lighting has improved or not
300Hz at 1080p? I tested 120Hz 1080p as that's what my second monitor can do, seemed okay but obviously that's not as high as what your aiming for. I didn't show because TH-cam is capped at 60fps.
terribly because the handling on anything other than tarmac is horribly floaty and handbraking definitely doesn’t seem tobwork correctly. Also I swear the audio quality in wrc4 was better lol
Seems like this is platform specific, although I have not tested all the permutations. Again, hopefully this gets ironed out in the first update or two!
This game is literally unplayable because it stutters whenever the car is steering. This is NOT an isolated issue and is widely seen reported on the forum.
I have not loaded up the game on Series X today, so am unsure. I think a patch for the broken wheel stuff is imminent, according to the WRC Generations Twitter. Worth a look there!

Anyone tried this on PC with CSL DD wheel ?. I cannot find any decent settings for WRC10 and wonder if this has been fixed. (compared to Dirt Rally 2 the FFB is really poor)
Tried out on my Xbox. Physics feel sluggish, missing gravel sounds, some engines sound more like blenders, driving on gravel feels more like ice. Shame they have so much content and the career mode is meaningful when the driving is so bad

All the stages design are so beautiful , I just don't like they intenionally put some stone near the track to force you drive extremely careful.

The only Rally game stuck in my brain forever is the Richard Burns rally
It's good but pretty old now, missing modern machinery for example. But decent handling for sure!

I'm fortunate enough and have worked long enough to get a decent PC. But I remember the struggle! Usually lowering shadow detail helps although I can't remember specifically for WRC Generations.

I spent hundreds of hours in most C&C games. But not Renegade. That was neither an RTS nor bearable.
I'm loving this one too. Can't get enough of it. I have 8.5 hours into the PC version and haven't had a crash. All my sim gear is working well, SiMagic wheel and pedals with Aiologs Shifter and HB. I'm only playing on a laptop with RTX 3060 but frame rate is smooth at 1080p high (default) settings. Great game and may be the last rally game I buy for a while. I have uninstalled WRC 10.

I don't get it when people say that dirt 2 feels slippery compared to wrc, for me is the complete opposite. In wrc I can't grip on gravel, it always drifts outwards and the car barely turns, as if the front wheels never dig in when I shitf the weight to the front.
I forgot we were allegedly getting a new "entry" into the test drive series some time this decade.
Still no gameplay footage, which is odd but maybe it's so not to overshadow WRC Generations. We shall see...
And meanwhile we have games like DAKAR that promised custom teams and the last I played it, it's still not been patched in.

my last rally game was Dirt 4 and OMG I loved its handling with joystick. Does WRC Generations tend to be a SimCade like Dirt 4 was, or is it more like a tryhard simulator like Dirt Rally 2.0??

After trying ea wrc for a few weeks I bought wrc generations (I skipped only because of missing vr). And I have to say, VR mode aside (which is in wa wrc but totally broken), I think I prefer generations.

I miss VR so much. Its wonderful in Dirt Rally and probably would fix my issue with WRC Gen fully too.
I have no idea which one is more realistic, but the physics are much more fun in Dirt Rally 2.0 for me. The cars in WRC feel sooo stiff in handling and the suspension feels super stiff too (everything bounces so hard)
Wish the sounds were better, especially for classic cars. Road noise is missing, sound in general lacks detail and immersion. Mix is bad too :( Rest is good.
Yea, no gravel sounds (only in heavy gravel) really removes immersion. Car sounds are pretty inconsistent but it is sufficient. Apart from that, I absolutely love the game. The physics feel just right (coming from an RBR fan btw) and the stage design is the best in the business.
I wonder if they threw in the Motion Sensor option for those of us who do not have a wheel. I hope so because the Motion Sensor is absolutely perfect for driving games....if you don't have a wheel. It needs to be a mandatory option for every racing game on the market. The only racing game I've seen it in is GTSport and for me it was a Godsend! Racing sims without the Motion Sensor eventually wrecks my hands and the fingers and I have to stop playing for a while and let my hands get back to normal. Needless to say with the Motion Sensor, my hands feel no pain whatsoever! ;)
(FYI -- F12019 is the game that actually started hurting my hands couple of years back....because of the PS4 controller...any intense long term racing with That brick of a controller will wreck your hands eventually trust me! This is why im such a fan of the Motion Sensor.....
Have you actually tried racing a F1 car for months and years plus any other intense online racing games with that Playstation's controller??
I can def race using it but as far as the hands and fingers are concerned...it is a nightmare!!
Even RIDE4...I have to race on and off becuase the "no motion sensor option" in most racing games has bout done my hands in. Like I said...the only one I seen it in is GTSport. There some people with some good common sense to put it in their game. I hope the people at WRC has some good common sense and made the MS option avaliable.

It works well with a controller, a lot of footage in this was on controller. It works better than in WRC 10.
If they had the old cars are in the game I'd buy it
Been playing these since WRC5 which I got on my PS Vita, then missed a couple till 8 which I got on my Switch, before getting 9 onwards on my PlayStation. Do love the series and the fact they keep what’s important, and then trying to improve those areas that need it the most.
Just wish they could have kept the licence longer, as having all the FIA racing licenses under one developer means there is less competition between the different games.
Am really not looking forward to what Codemasters do with it, since Dirt 5, and Dirt 4 which they just threw out and never bothered with adding anything to it, like adding new stages and areas. Just hope they don’t go down the lazy route as they seems to be doing with F1 lately, which is to try and monetise the hell out of it.
I was waiting for your review specifically. Watching this with my morning coffee. Now, I agree with everything you said but I wanted to ask this, do you think that the force feedback is a little bit different? I'm not saying it is bad, it is a big improvement over WRC10 but I still think that in terms of ffb alone, DR2.0 has the edge. Not by a huge margin, but a little bit. At the end of the day all of this does not matter as I too had a blast playing WRCG and It's finally great that rally fans have another game to invest their time into.

I think it's probably not quite finished, some wheels seem broken and I believe we have some wheel related updates coming. Dirt Rally 2.0 started off bad with FFB so maybe we'll see Generations improve. Although there isn't as much incentive to do so for Kylotonn.
I really makes a difference to not have to buy most of the game as dlc.

Thanks for the review i enjoyed 10 a bit and its super fun on g923. I may pick the game up on xbox series X. I'm personally iffy with code masters making the newer wrc games due to how screwy the last f1 game has been with glitches then updates constantly messing with the driving at times like what happened with dirt rally 2. I stopped playing dirt rally 2.0 after midway through season 1 due to how the game became unplayable for me with controller and wheel on xbox
I agree, people are quick to hate on Kylotonn but despite some flaws I really liked WRC 9, 10 and Generations. They are fun and we live in a time when barely any games launch perfectly. Those days are long gone, for better and for worse. Hopefully you enjoy the game if you get it. Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the review! Given some time has passed and it's clear that there will be no more fixes, do you still feel that this is the best of the KT WRC games? I've been playing around with 9, 10, and Generations, trying to decide which game to dive into deeply. Generations feels just a little bit janky and unfinished in comparison to 10; like it would have benefitted from a few more months of polishing. On the other hand, it's got the most content, so I'm torn as to which game most deserves my attention. Since there's so much overlap/similarity amongst the three, it's unlikely I'll play more than one once I commit. And if it makes any difference to your response, I'm playing on PC with a controller; I'm unlikely to get a wheel in the foreseeable future.
WRC series, both 10 and generations seems to have some gravity, and scaling problems, sound problems, like a car standing still doesent have idle sound. Thankfully codemasters have got the license on WRC series now, so I bought this game in hope codemasters will get motivated enough to write one more line of quality code into the upcoming Dirt Rally 3.0 (Serialnumber: WRC23)
In Generations they actually forgot to include the sound of gravel hitting the floor of your car. It's in EVERY other WRC game. How that got past testing is insane to me. It really ruins immersion for me and I can't unhear it.

Im on ps5 and i had to turn down the sound of gravel hitting the bottom of my car. It was blasting out my ps5 controller.
I only played rallt game 10years ago with RBR in keyboard. Now I just got a xsx with ts-xw. I am all in simracing. Acc of course. And looking sim rally as well. I have game pass so have the dr2.0. I felt the maneuvering is strangely hard of it. When i see wrc, i just feel the car’s movements and maneuvering are way better than dr2.0 even I have never played wrc in my life. So I will buy wrc10 and wrcg. Do you think wrc10 is also worth to buy or go straight to wrcg is better?
I prefer Generations, so if a similar price I'd get that. But WRC 10 is fun too. Watch my Generations review on the channel for more info.
Have you tried RWD and other old historic vehicles? Is it any better than the previous game? For me it was the one thing that made me stay with DR2 instead of WRC10.
Cars feel better to drive and are heavier, so I'd say the historic stuff feels better.
Historic stuff in WRC 10 is so bad that I prefer to ignore they exist, a real shame!
WRC generations may be better but I don't believe it will give the same joy as driving a RWD on DR2.0 (hope I'm wrong)

How is the crashes compared for example Dirt rally 2.0 ? Some wrc games in terms of crashes are pretty unrealistics in my experience
Some moments of weird physics, but the extra weight of the cars seems to result in more rolling. I'd say that is more accurate. And it is possible to damage the car so much you can see the engine. It is better I think.

It's not really 85 cars. More like 85 liveries.
There are 15 liveries in WRC Rally 1, but only 3 actual cars. Same for Rally 2. There are 5 cars but 27 liveries.

I guess if there's a glitch like that you could but I suspect the way a racing game is setup differs to an FPS, adventure game etc. I've seen people do ridiculous jumps in some games to speed things up!

Playing this on Ps5 and i found a lot ot glitches like when i made my own settings on the steering wheel (TGT 2) the game don't want to save the changes and feel like the graphic it's not good enough it's a lot ot shimmering everywhere wrc 10 for me it's better on 120 hz and even on balanced mode .....

300Hz at 1080p? I tested 120Hz 1080p as that's what my second monitor can do, seemed okay but obviously that's not as high as what your aiming for. I didn't show because TH-cam is capped at 60fps.

terribly because the handling on anything other than tarmac is horribly floaty and handbraking definitely doesn’t seem tobwork correctly. Also I swear the audio quality in wrc4 was better lol
Handling is great once you change the sensitivity settings.
Have you figured out how to 6 gear in the cars with 6 gears?
Seems like this is platform specific, although I have not tested all the permutations. Again, hopefully this gets ironed out in the first update or two!

This game is literally unplayable because it stutters whenever the car is steering. This is NOT an isolated issue and is widely seen reported on the forum.
Are there custom championships? I.e can I do a championship across all 21 countries in a WRC3 car?

I have not loaded up the game on Series X today, so am unsure. I think a patch for the broken wheel stuff is imminent, according to the WRC Generations Twitter. Worth a look there!
Why does this have such a mixed rating on steam? Most wrc games are pretty highly rated. Its been 7 months, surely any issues at launch woul dbe fixed by now?
I'm unsure, maybe some peripheral support issues or performance stuff. I think it's the best handling of the lot.

No some locations are not in career like Argentina, Chile, Wales etc. I guess it's the actual locales from the real 2022 season

Tried out on my Xbox. Physics feel sluggish, missing gravel sounds, some engines sound more like blenders, driving on gravel feels more like ice. Shame they have so much content and the career mode is meaningful when the driving is so bad
Wait so next Dirt games will be WRC branded?
If Codemasters uses the Dirt name but I suspect it will use WRC as that's the licence.

Controller or wheel? Which platform? Are you crashing mid-corner or as you leave it? I can try and help :)
If you're using controller try lowering left and right steering sensitivity to around -4.0. (On xbox). Helped for me :)
