Same here, I've been LOVING it so far, and I'm about 40-50 hours in. It's stunning to look at, performs well (frame rate I mean) and I've had very few issues. Going back to Dirt Rally 2.0 I enjoy WRC more, mainly as it performs so much better primarily thanks to DLSS.

@@ross-carlson I feel like the development team of racing games in general are missing the memo here. You need to have good physics, and then wrap it up with good graphics. It shouldn't just be a graphic showcase. But I can see why they are taking this approach. After all, good graphics gets you good chunk of pre-orders because that's what customers are able to see from the trailers anyway.

It really puts into stark perspective how stale racing games are that TONS of PRIME examples of the genre are pushing or far more than an entire decade old at this point. This last decade has EASILY been the single worst for racing games since the genre's inception IMHO.

This is something that is hitting all niche genres like flight sims or realistic strategy games. It's basically just an accountancy thing where those generic ubisoft open world style games are a set level of guaranteed income so there's no reason to develop anything else.

Tbh I feel we've reached a disconnect between what is fun to play with controller and what is realistic. The two are desperately incompatible and the sim rig community shows us that once you start investing in this hobby seriously it opens up, otherwise you've hit a glass ceiling with the controller with regards to feel and clearly, imagination too. I think as a result the direction in the genre is muddles, no one knows what they want from the genre and well no one is putting out what I think is most needed.

      @hamleyn ปีที่แล้ว +22

You only have to look at the F1 games of recent years to know that developers are more interested in cold hard cash than providing a standout game for their fans. F1 22 was deplorable, particularly for controller players and had a lot of bugs in it that had been fixed in later patches of F1 2021 but inextricably showed up again in F1 22.
And mods are great for those who play on PC but us console plebs shouldn't have to wallow in the mud. Why can't anyone just make a really good racing game that works well on both controller and Sim rig that doesn't require any modding out of the box? Surely that's not too much to ask!

I was driving Dirt 2.0 for years now and just wanted to have a bit different experience, new stages, etc. That how i end up with WRC G. The most annoying thing for me is Hand Break issue! I literally cant use it at all, as in 80% of the cases the car start spinning. I went crazy on one corner, tried 20 times and it feels like once you pull the hand break the front wheels stop running and the car became rear wheels only, with a huge push from a side.

After playing WRC 10 and Generations, I have to say I am kinda nervous for the next installment of TDU. All of the things Jimmy calls out here I agree with. I get that TDU isn't a sim game, but the principal stands that if the developer doesn't produce solid games and hasn't for the past few versions of WRC. @@marv2507 Yeah that is probably how they are thinking, but I'm not sure they realise that many people will remember them for the last iteration.
Take Danger Close Games for example, they were tasked with making a couple of the command and conquer games, as well as many of the Medal of Honor games. When they were tasked with the 2010 reboot of Medal of Honor, it was seen as a positive attempt at moving the franchise forward. When they made MOH Warfighter in 2012 however, it got pummeled by all of its critics for it's broken and buggy nature, as well as how boring and unoriginal the game was. Within a year of the game coming out, only a day 1 patch had been released, the studio had been dissolved (shut down in fancy terms), and Medal of Honor had been "taken out of rotation".
While I don't believe Kyloton has made anywhere near as bad a game as Danger Close did, the reviews and videos coming out about Generations that take a stance like Jimmer's are leaning to suggest they did, If they decide they don't want to fix these issues, that is their choice, but it may well be their ending legacy.

I wouldn't be surprised if Codemasters (by way of their owner EA) kept it to a not immersive season mode and battle passed the fuck out of customizations. I really really really do hope that they take a note from the WRC games and improve their track designs though. But again... if we end up with some dumb customize your apartment and the barest of car editor bones i wouldn't be shocked. They couldn't even be bothered to add in customizable car models in the F1 game.... just generic premade liveries.

None of it feels as polished or good as Dirt 2.0 but despite that I find myself much happier to pick it up and play and have fun doing it. Anyway, the problem is WRC knows they don't have competition probably since 2020, they are the only Rally game right now they know people will buy it, they just need to make the game playable and good enough. Yes we still have RBR, and DR2 but they are old, not all people are interested in mods.

Thank you for this. As a console racer, specifically Xbox, options sometimes seem very limited. This is especially true for more modern titles that make better use of modern sim gear (another thing that's option limited for Xbox). I bought an SF1000 wheel, only to find that the only titles that make use of the UDP telemetry are the F1 games from 2019 onward. That's great for those, but when you pop into Forza, it's useless. Not to mention how you start to miss a full round steering wheel when you're driving anything that's not an open wheel or hypercar.

This is a good video. I'd love to say I agree with everything you've said but unfortunately I STILL can't play it.
I have a T300 wheel and G27 pedals and from WRC8 to Generations none of them have worked. Previously, it was always that using an input on one device would stop the other one registering, leaving you accelerating into a tree or off a cliff.
That seems to be gone now. Instead, this game's special thing is that it doesn't recognise my wheel's axis at all, even in the control menu. No idea why, every other game is fine with it.
It is sad because the stages on this look amazing. DR2.0 is a bit weak when it comes to stages, and the tarmac physics also. In the end I've done what I suspect we all do eventually - crawled back to RBR and begged for forgiveness that I ever tried to leave it for a younger, slimmer, less demanding game.

Graphics are great, sound is absolutely fine, handling is good, stage design is epic. I haven't hesitated to recommend this to everyone, with the caveat that (as with every new release it seems) there may be issues.
As to regurgitating content. EA has been at the forefront of publishing the same game year on year since the 1990's. To be honest, what else are KT supposed to do with the WRC licence? Let's see what EA can innovate with the licence for the next few years.

Thank you Jamble for making the video, been watching your streams as well and it is just so disappointing how much stuff is broken and/or missing from the game. I have WRC9, DR2 and RBR so this release won't be ending up in my library. I hardly play WRC9 as is because of some of the quirks, biggest one being that lighting thing that is seemingly fixed now but replaced with other issues.
I am especially glad you brought up the the setups being wack. I don't have much time to play games so when I get the time to play i want to spend that time driving and having fun, not messing with a setup that I know nothing about and don't have time to learn. I am totally fine with a default setup being 80% of ideal, I can work with that but to give a crippling setup as default sucks. Just because I enjoy sim racing doesn't mean I have hours to dial in setups just to be able to enjoy the driving and feel like I am driving a car.
It is all such a bummer because I have gotten so tired of doing the same stages over and over in DR2 and RBR suffers from having too much to where I don't know what to play. The time I spent on WRC9 was a lot of fun, the stages were more interesting than DR2, the driving was fun, having modern WRC cars was amazing that I really wished this release and WRC10 for that matter were just flat out better and could be my de-facto rally game. They are just too incomplete or weirdly broken for that to be true though.

IMO WRC 10 is the pinnacle of the series, it felt just a bit more refined than 9. One thing I noticed that you didn't mention was the new way night driving in WRCG is rendered graphically. There is an odd halo to the new headlight system that has the strange effect of illuminating the sky along with the rest of the scenery. It's incredibly odd and doesn't particularly look very good. 10 and before really felt like you were driving at night with pitch black sky and very low ambient light. I was tough as nails, but felt way more real. Generations is a step back in night driving for sure.

I've been really enjoying WRC Generations, but its also the first WRC game I've played, and the first rally game I've played in a long time. But the longer you play the more you notice the oddities. I just finished the power stage in Portugal which is a head to head race. The opponent car finished ahead of me by a good few seconds, and I had a 5 second time penalty for going out of the track limits, but I apparently won the race by 1 second. Unless the opponent had a penalty (maybe possible but I don't think there's a way to check) then that just can't be true. Maybe the times are skewed because I'm only on 120% difficulty. The other notable moment would be in Sweden when another car was pulled over on the side and a wheel in the middle of the course instantly booted the car into a roll.

Last year I got WRC10 on Xbox One S and put in plenty of hours before concluding either my eyes were broken or there was something amiss with the framerate. It was the closest I had ever gotten to travel sickness. I switched over to Dirt 2.0 and it was like I'd just had corrective eye laser surgery. Additionally, WRC 10 felt poor with my wheel and sounded asthmatic. Gotta say though, Kylotonn did a great job on stage design, in fairness.
I was kinda tempted by Generations, if it were to appear on sale for €20, as I now have a PS5, but I've now decided there's no point throwing good money after bad. Fingers crossed Codies/EA work their magic when they pick up the WRC license.

There’s no grip at all even when you’re on normal regular tarmac to snow, the game’s download speed is slow and Laggy AF.
I can barely steer the car to negotiate a turn to save my life, and the handbrake is terrible, you use it as you normally would on a Square turn or Hairpin and you will end up spinning.
Don’t get me wrong as much as I like and admire the sport, I have never played a rally game, ever!

But when it comes to WRCG all guns come out, how unrealistic and bad it is... Also recommending DR2 instead of this game is funny, since DR2 is even less realistic and much more of a borefest.
I'm just pointing out this hypocrisy, I know I'm being a bit to aggro about it, but just annoyed about this Codemasters/EA riding, when they have only baited the community with the first DR, and then released a worse and easier version in terms of physics and driving, just to appeal to broader crowd and using the goodwill acquired by DR to do this (which was also very predictable that they would do it, I even remember thinking exactly this playing DR). DR2 in general is not even a good game overall, many issues with it, Codemasters deserve very little praise.

WRC 8 got me back into rally games when I bought it cheap but when I picked up WRC10 and Dirt Rally 2.0 it became apparent which was the better game. Dirt Rally 2.0 is just a far superior rally game in my opinion from the engine sounds to the overall immersion and the sense of speed. It's not like the WRC games are bad games but there's something just off about them. I'm convinced those making videos claiming WRC is better than Dirt Rally 2.0 are being sponsored or something to say that. I wouldn't touch WRC generations until it is cheap enough.

Coming from Dirt Rally 2.0 on controller with no assists, I thought maybe something is wrong with me but it was almost impossible for me to play due to the throttle weirdness.

Im glad you did this honest review Jimmy.
After the disappointment of WRC10, i was only gonna play this if it came to Xbox Game Pass, but TBH what do Kylotonn care if its bad, its the last game of their series as EA/CM have now got the license.
Im just hoping Codemasters address these issues you've brought up and the comments everyone has posted below.
    Just sticking with DR2.0 atm.

Synthetic couldn’t have been a more perfect word when it comes to the sounds, you left out the stage sounds as well (gravel, tar, snow, and etc) and that is what my personal attraction point is with any racing experience and in especially dirt rally 2 with gorgeous sounds all around but that’s something that this franchise has struggled with for so long. I was really hoping this final send off for a game would be the best but there’s still things in the previous titles that I would pick over Generations. At least i’m having fun for the most part but it’s understandable as to why people aren’t. Praying they’ll be on top this as soon as possible.

While I haven't played a single WRC game from these devs, I can't help but see the same alarming issue with Yearly License Title releases (F1 comes to mind): Some of the same issues from the previous games popping up and a serious lack of anything actually new beyond some new content (which can be said about yearly licenses sports titles period from what I see over and over). Its mind boggling that as a licensed title, this game gate keeps the latest cars behind a wall while even the varying degrees of mediocore to dumpster fire that have been the NASCAR games had the common sense to make the current cars of the time the cars you can drive by yourself by default. Some very strange decisions in what is effectively the final WRC title from these devs, I'm not expecting a whole bunch from EA era Codies (who from what I can tell are no better then what they were before) once they make their WRC title but going off the F1 games I at least expect the current season cars to not be locked behind some strange arbitrary wall.

As a new WRC player, I thought I was going crazy about the game for all of the issue it has. I can still enjoy the game, but a lot needs to be fixed in my opinion to be considered a worthy rally game. Thank you for making this video, it will hopefully show lots of people and maybe the developers what do we have to say about the game and maybe and just maybe they'll fix it.

Jimmy... my dear Jimmy , first of all, I honestly do love your videos. HOWEVER, I have a couple points for you:
    1. I heard you say at least three times in this 14:28 video that WRC generations is basically the same game as previous versions. I have a question. Does this honestly surprise you? It suffers from the same thing that pretty much all licensed games suffer from. It's literally rinse, repeat, give us your money (see madden NFL, FIFA, NBA2k as examples of this problem). Welcome to the world of licensed games.
    2. I think you, yourself, would be considered a sim racer correct? You call WRC a sim game in this video. You want 85 percent of your set up work done for you? Come on bro, I would put that at ARCADE level games. If you honestly want 85 percent of your setup work done for you so you can have a good setup, I'm gonna have to revoke that sim racer card lol.
    3. This is something I have been screaming from the mountain tops for years. You say at the very beginning of this video that features in the game are either broken, not there, etc. Honestly, all I can say to this is get used to it. This is the generation of gaming that we live in now. Believe me, it isn't going to change. Why isn't it going to change? Because gamers of this generation can't handle delays, games being pushed back for improvements etc. Any delay and they automatically tweet, or stream "The developers lied to us" like content. Another reason is honestly because of streamers, youtubers etc saying they love the game etc. Believe it or not, youtubers and streamers like yourself and others have a massive amount of influence over people buying games, or products that you like, or don't like. Sadly though until gamers start refusing to accept mediocrity, this is what we're stuck with. Half finished products, and shitty games altogether.

What 'rally' related game do you recommend? Last game i played was Dirt 4. The age of the game doesn't bother me. I have pedals and steeringwheel and want a game that feels real. I have a PS4

I have been holding on wrcG for a while now. This video showed me I was right.
    Patience is king.
Having said that, I cant wait to mod RB game and try out my luck in that.
