Yeah the 14 pro max does seem to over sharpen and clip the shadows when it doesn’t have to because of the new sensor, they’ll probably fix that with the 15 pro’s. The 14/14plus are using the larger 12mp sensor from the 13 pro’s with sensor shift and now with the new photonic engine the only difference’s are slight in low light and when you crop in which no average user crops in, they just take the picture and post it online. Both are good cameras
( Natural Color ) is what you’re aiming for. Bright colors don’t necessarily make the picture more detailed. I don’t know if you go back to 35mm cameras and keeping 35mm negatives. But an old school negative can be processed the way you want. If you want brighter or darker areas you can change it at will. Today it’s called Raw. There’s no way a still picture can compete with a raw picture because you can’t change the still. You can take the raw to a professional and have them calibrate the colors for you.
I'm not upgrading this year, but I always look forward to your reviews because you show that phone cameras are very capable devices in the right hands. Excited to put my iPhone 13 Pro cameras to the test more next year. Thanks Tyler! 💜
My next upgrade will probably be an iPhone 20 or something. I just upgraded to an iPhone 13 pro from an iPhone7. I really like it when I see an incremental change in the phone.
Hello I just bought 13 pro in july, I took 2x installments. I already paid 50%. If I trade in my Iphone 13 pro for a regular Iphone 14 now, do I have to complete the remaining 50% of the payment before I can exchange my 13 pro for another iPhone? Thank you in advance :)
The main lens looks nearly identical across the 14 and 14 Pro. But wow, is there a dramatic improvement with the ultra-wide lens on the Pro. I use that lens all the time too, so I'd consider that a worthwhile upgrade.
but the problem is this idiot did just compare the ultra wide from the 14 pro with the 14 and not the 13 pro which did get upgraded last year and should be somewhere in between the 14 and 14pro...
I'd argue pretty heavily against that. For the main lens, even in normal light with detail (such as her orange pants), but especially in low light, such as at 13:50 where the suture lines on the jean jacket are night and day different between the main lenses. Then again around 14:40 the iPhone 14 Pro main had a clear difference where even with a higher exposure/iso, there was both more detail and significantly less noise in the sky, the water, and the outfit.
Wow, it's remarkable how great the 14 Pro's 48MP RAW images are. All the annoying over-sharpening and noise-reduction artifacts of the typical iPhone image mostly appears to be gone, and it does start looking a lot like professional camera imaging. Also the new ultra-wide is a clear win all around. Color me (haha) impressed!
@@29mailman when I use raw 48mp the difference is huge compared to the pixel binned 12mp. When you zoom in there is much more details and it is much sharper than in 12 mp mode

Very nice tip on the new option for preserving the F-stop for cinematic mode. I remember last year you mentioned how much better it was to change away from the default to get usable shots, and I've been doing it since, but it's always a PITA to do especially if moving fast/quickly. I believe you can force the phone to use the whole 48MP if you dont turn on Nightmode when shooting in low light. But the result might not be what you'd expected because 48Mp means smaller sub pixel = more noise & inaccurate colors = the phone trying to reduce noise and recover colors = less details overall. even in proraw, Apple's still trying to "fix" all those problems.
I think it's fair to say that us iP14 users isn't missing that much in the camera department. But I still want to get an iP14 Pro in Silver color but it's so damn expensive.

Megapixel counts only matter to a point. If you are doing a large amount of cropping in with your photos of course you'll get better detail. However for the purpose most people use their phone for, there's a reason why Apple stayed with the same count for years.
I think that for consistency, Apple should go all in next year and use 48mpx on all the lenses. And a improved zoom lenses is required too... it would be great to have a zoom lens between 5x and 10x

Just wanted to note that I was really charmed by how the ice cream scoops matched her outfit! Of course the entire video was helpful as well, but I wanted to highlight that one little thing.
Around the 9:35 to 9:40 in one of the comparison of two similar shots on this video, I notice the clouds and sky on the iPhone 14 Pro (48MP RAW) looking much more washed out than on the iPhone 14 HEIC rendering of the clouds and sky. Is that something that can be rectified quite easily in LR after the fact, while processing the RAW image, or is the 48MP sensor simply not as good at capturing clouds and sky? Here's why I'm asking. I've been shooting 16:9 (at .5) of clouds and sky with my iPhone 11 Pro Max for years and I really love the results I get; so much so that when the iPhone 13 Pro Max came out I purchased one, only to return it the same day after spending an hour or so shooting C&S HEIC images with it, side by side with my 11 Pro Max. The eleven's rendering of clouds and sky consistently looked a lot better than the thirteen's. Any thoughts?
Hey, you may already know this by now but you're correct...somewhat. From my testing the raw photo doesn't always look the best straight out of camera, but it's meant to be edited and tweaked hence it being Raw. Once I upload the photo to lightroom and decrease the highlights it makes the world of difference to any clouds in the sky. Raw on the 14 pro truly is impressive for making pictures look more realistic.
10:45 you've heard wrong, it's not optical, it's a digital (crop) zoom. 9:30, 13:10 & 14:47 that "more details" you see is just software oversharpening and overcontrasting, producing a "better" image for Instaweb use, but it's actually worse overbaked overprocessed mushy bs.
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THE CROP. I was so tired of people calling it "an optical zoom" or "a 2x zoom", some people just don't know anything about lenses and just spread misinformation. Thanks for the review, I ended up getting a 14.
As an owner of a OnePlus 6 (2018), I'm long overdue for a new phone. Was waiting for reviews about the iPhone 14 Pro and I must say, I'm impressed by what I've seen so far. I'm looking forward to this phone this year! Can't wait to upgrade! ✌️
The average consumer can’t tell the difference. The “dynamic island” is essentially a floating notch but is basically a gimmick to sell phones. Not to mention people edit and or add filters to their photos anyway. Just buy a 14
Loved your review and your accent. OMG I am Greek but still understand almost everything without subtitles, you can call that progress. A Uk guy told me that I am even better than many of his friends!!
Great review, man! (I had another comment which I deleted, once I realized you covered it - about the 48mpx raw file). Appreciate you going in depth, and showing side by side. Still going to keep my Samsung, but I need a video like this to show me options :)
I'm using the iPhone 12, and I'm due for a recontract with my provider. I'm gonna take a chance at the 14 pro, because I'm intrigued with the 48mp, the pro-RAW, macro photography, etc. I use a Sony mirrorless camera and edit my photo as well, but I wanna see how well the iPhone 14 pro camera handles.
13:50 Can tell a huge difference in the two low light shots. Easiest parts that stuck out to me are the suture lines near the elbows and above the breast pockets.
I would like to see a comparison between the cameras of the 12 Pro (Max) and 14 Pro (Max). Curious to know whether it is worth upgrading or better skip a year.
As a person who left the 12 pro max for the 14 pro max .. please don’t. Now if you really need to upgrade to something get the 14 plus or a refurbished 13 pro max.
And at 8:06 comparing stabilization manually turned off via a third party app vs Action Mode... Of course Action Mode will look amazing this way. This is so misleading.
3:39 Nope, shooting in RAW is so it's up to the interpretation of the photographer/editor as to how their photo is processed. Basically this is comparing an edited photo with a unedited photo. 9:27 You make the same mistake... all that detail is in the file, you just need to know how to find it all yourself when using an editor. Again, one is edited already... it sort of just feels like you don't understand what a RAW file is for. Every pro photographer spends hours processing their photos in post, or should.
Man, THANK YOU! For what I need, so pics for instagram, some videos of me playing bass and guitar and stuff like that, seems like the 14 is good enough.
I have to agree with the telephoto lens. It's always been disappointing especially because it would an amazing option for portrait photos. Apple in my opinion should start putting more attention to it
Billiant review👏. My take: Ultrawide, macro are nightmode are way ahead in Pro. For day to day regular uses and casual shots, considering the huge difference in price between 14 and 14pro, the 14 will be much more logical to buy, considering Value for Money.
it is not an "optical zoom", it is a crop. So the center of the image is cropped, then reframed to take the entire size of the screen. But the two photos (48 or 12) are taken with the same optic. So it is optical.
As a photographer, I never take photos on my iphone. I’ve just never seen photo results that looked good enough for me to want to bother. Which has been convenient because since the X, the SE2 and the mini has been my iPhone of choice for a couple years especially since camera performance didn’t matter to me. But the 14 pro results are the first time I’ve ever seen iPhone photos where I’m being enticed to the larger format because I could see using it to capture those everyday moments, BTS, and social media stuff
It's kinda weird that 14's primary lens has got f1.5 but 14 pro has got f1.78 ... aren't these supposed to go lower 😅 Also i think 14 pro is just adding sharpness in post processing. It would be interesting to sharpen 14's image using Snapseed and then compare it with 14 pro
I wanna buy my first iPhone, would you recommend to buy the 14 or the pro? Because I'm reading everywhere that the 14 is a nobrainer to buy and makes basically no sense to buy.
Are there any differences between 14 and 14 pro when you use action mode when shooting video? My main reason for getting a 14 instead of 13 is action mode. But do I get any benefits going with the pro?
Very excited to get the 14 Pro - I'm upgrading from my current XS. It's a huuuge upgrade in camera abilities, the lowlight differences between the 14 vs 14 pro were really obvious and the selling point for me. As well as the pro's ultrawide. Thanks for the detailed review!
even in the first comparison shots it’s clear that the 14 got a lot more sharpening applied. There are visible halos on contrast edges which show this quite clearly. An interesting try would then have been how the 14 pro 48mp image reacts to well done sharpening applied… enough to bring the details out without resorting into halo land. In regard to the 2x lens being no „optical“ zoom but just a crop: Technically, yes it is just a crop of the sensor of the 14 pro… but since the sensor is also bigger at the same time, it’s sensor pixels are nearly the same size as the one in the 12 MP sensor of the 14. So - in relation to the 14 it actually is similar to a 2x „optical“ zoom in any way to think of it. So from the standpoint of just getting 12 MP photos it behaves like having a real additional 2x module. You could do the same by cropping from the 48MP RAW of course. So the „2x“ zoom definitely makes sense as a camera feature for common use but of course isn’t magic. It’s a matter of perspective.
It is annoying that the regular 14 which is the iPhone for the masses gets the least attention and upgrades. I understand Apple would rather you spend £1099+, but that’s not realistic for most if their users. Great leaps for the Pro models, but I hope they put more effort in next year for the people who occupy their biggest market.
I shoot raw, and always have since the Pro Raw feature became available. I don’t carry a camera when traveling anymore. Also, it’s fun to edit the photos in my style when I can. When shooting raw, you really focus more on composition and your shot.
Great video! I really wish mobile manufacturers would stop putting that aggressive sharpness in photos, it ruins them. Do you think you could upload the photos somewhere for us to edit? Especially 9:00. Thanks!
to see the difference of the iphone 14 pro video and photo difference turn on the high efficiency option instead of most compatible to get the most of the new iphone
the 2x zoom is not a crop because when you shoot 1x in normal mode, it isn't reading out 48mp, the pixel binning happens on the sensor, it still comes out as a 12mp image. But when you shoot 2x, it reads out individual pixels in the center area, which is 12mp, there's no scaling happening and hence it is a true optical zoom. Another way you could think of it, is if you had another camera the same as the main, but with the sensor cropped in, is that camera a true 2x? Well it has to be isn't it? The existence of inactive sensor area doesn't make any difference does it?
yo Tyler, what lens/filter do you use to film your talking head/b-roll? I see some chromatic aberration, but its actually quite nice and has become symbiotic with your own "look" imo
Thanks for the great review. So is it really 48 megs, or just a play on words by Apple with each pixel now using 4 pixels thus getting to the 48 number? The image examples here clearly show there's no discernible difference in IQ between them. Will say the stabilization is really impressive. Still debating on whether to upgrade or not.
Very informative. Good job! I always upgrade to a new phone every year, and have tried the 'pro' lines, but normally end up settling with the 'non-pro'. The average person just taking photos to share doesn't need the pro; yet we all buy them. Certainly the pro's offer a helluva lot of camera- if you need/want it. I always think I want the zoo- but the macro photography features are the coolest actually.
When we talk about optical zoom on iPhones do we talk about telephoto lens or the main camera zooming in without digital zoom? The question is more about base iPhone (12,13,14 etc.) models who doesn't have telephoto lens. Do they have any optical zoom that doesn't sacrifice quality?
I would love to see how the Pro compares to a proper mirrorless/DSLR, does the tiny lens really have the power to resolve 48 MP? We all know proper high megapixel camera (R5/A7R) require very sharp lenses in order to show off their resolution, how about on phones?
In good light it does better than I ever expected! It sounds nuts but I shot back to back with the Fuji GFX 50sii and compared the shots…. I’m very good light the iPhone compared well. In poor light? Not so much.
Onion is so pretty, I always look forward to your reviews of the new iPhones because you have an eye for beauty. I noticed on the pro max the pictures in low light look very grainy

16:02 What's the brand and model name of the jacket?
Finally a camera review I've been waiting for
Your action mode comparison was the best I’ve seen on TH-cam
10:45 you've heard wrong, it's not optical, it's a digital (crop) zoom.
9:30, 13:10 & 14:47 that "more details" you see is just software oversharpening and overcontrasting, producing a "better" image for Instaweb use, but it's actually worse overbaked overprocessed mushy bs.
THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THE CROP. I was so tired of people calling it "an optical zoom" or "a 2x zoom", some people just don't know anything about lenses and just spread misinformation. Thanks for the review, I ended up getting a 14.
Tyler does some of the best review's out there 🙌🏽 a true TH-cam treasure
And he's from my city! Forgot about this channel
YES I have been waiting for this video for so long!
Just buy a 14
Been waiting for this I’m going to love it
Loved your review and your accent. OMG I am Greek but still understand almost everything without subtitles, you can call that progress. A Uk guy told me that I am even better than many of his friends!!
I’m looking forward to the dynamic Island, always on display in the new camera improvements with the iPhone 14 pro
Great review, man! (I had another comment which I deleted, once I realized you covered it - about the 48mpx raw file). Appreciate you going in depth, and showing side by side. Still going to keep my Samsung, but I need a video like this to show me options :)
Thanks for the deep dive. This is the first time that I've felt the need to upgrade to the Pro.
This is one of the best camera reviews on the new iPhones
I'm using the iPhone 12, and I'm due for a recontract with my provider. I'm gonna take a chance at the 14 pro, because I'm intrigued with the 48mp, the pro-RAW, macro photography, etc. I use a Sony mirrorless camera and edit my photo as well, but I wanna see how well the iPhone 14 pro camera handles.
Tyler, we’ve been waiting along time for this one.🤙
Thanks we bought a 14

I just know taking aesthetic 80's polaroid style pictures with the 14 pro... IT'S GOING TO BE HEAVEN, LIKE MAGIC FOR THAT
Action mode seems the most useful new feature. It’s quite crazy how it opens up new opportunities for filming.
I was going to trade my iPhone 14 for the pro version. Thanks to your video I’m keeping my basic iPhone 14. Thank you 🙏🏼
I can’t decide between iPhone 14 pro and iPhone 14, which one is better ?
@@hocineted7594pro
10:55 exactly! I'm tired of seeing companies crop into a photo and call it zoom. Samsung did that on the S20/S21 and now Apple on the iPhone 14.
@@maddisana Soon the question will become: upgrade to 15 Pro Max or stick to the 12 pro max for another year...
Probably the best one i have found on TH-cam..very nicely put in everything in one video..good job. i think 14 is still good in most cases.
I’ve been waiting for this video 😬
Nice studio set up and very good stage presence on camera, calm and intuitive. Keep up the good work nice review
Excellent work Tyler! 👏🏽
6:20 "The Photonic Engine is clearly having a positive effect"
How can we know if you don't compare to the 13 Pro?
And at 8:06 comparing stabilization manually turned off via a third party app vs Action Mode... Of course Action Mode will look amazing this way. This is so misleading.
and why doesnt the 13pro get that feature???!!!! :/
I would love to see a "best travel camera" video I really enjoy watching your videos. Thanks!
Great review Tyler
Just wondering are they Christmas Lights @ 14:05 if so they are way too early
Yes I can see the sharpness difference in low light on YT. Great review!
I have to agree with the telephoto lens. It's always been disappointing especially because it would an amazing option for portrait photos. Apple in my opinion should start putting more attention to it
iPhone 15 Pro? 🤞
Billiant review👏. My take: Ultrawide, macro are nightmode are way ahead in Pro. For day to day regular uses and casual shots, considering the huge difference in price between 14 and 14pro, the 14 will be much more logical to buy, considering Value for Money.
4:50 that's unfortunate cursor placement...
😂😂😂😂
this is the real review. thanks for this in depth look.
it is not an "optical zoom", it is a crop.

@@AniaB Sorry, it was just for fun 😅
@@shubham-prakash oh haha not offended at all, i thought it was funny
It's kinda weird that 14's primary lens has got f1.5 but 14 pro has got f1.78 ... aren't these supposed to go lower 😅 Also i think 14 pro is just adding sharpness in post processing. It would be interesting to sharpen 14's image using Snapseed and then compare it with 14 pro
I wanna buy my first iPhone, would you recommend to buy the 14 or the pro? Because I'm reading everywhere that the 14 is a nobrainer to buy and makes basically no sense to buy.
the fact that he has to look at the images on a laptop is all the proff I need.. from my end here, the practically look the same
Absolutely stunning reviews, thank you ❤️
I’m a sucker for quality. Thank you!
Are there any differences between 14 and 14 pro when you use action mode when shooting video? My main reason for getting a 14 instead of 13 is action mode. But do I get any benefits going with the pro?
Did you get any answer to this?
Picked up the 14 Pro Max yesterday , love it cheers 👌🏻😊🇬🇧
Very excited to get the 14 Pro - I'm upgrading from my current XS. It's a huuuge upgrade in camera abilities, the lowlight differences between the 14 vs 14 pro were really obvious and the selling point for me. As well as the pro's ultrawide. Thanks for the detailed review!
Make sense. I upgraded to the 13 Pro Max last year from my XS Max
This is a great review! Thanks for the content ❤
even in the first comparison shots it’s clear that the 14 got a lot more sharpening applied.
Thanks!
thats what raw is good for 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
As a current Samsung Note 10 user wanting to jump into the iPhone, will the iPhone 14 still be a good buy? Or would you recommend the Pro?
7:01 I love that the ice cream matches her outfit
You can take flower closeups on iPhone 14 with the 2x zoom. It's really sharp and crisp
What a amazing content man!
Love this. Thank you for this great video
Great review - tbh quite on the same performance level except for some minor use cases & raw photos
to see the difference of the iphone 14 pro video and photo difference turn on the high efficiency option instead of most compatible to get the most of the new iphone
the 2x zoom is not a crop because when you shoot 1x in normal mode, it isn't reading out 48mp, the pixel binning happens on the sensor, it still comes out as a 12mp image. The existence of inactive sensor area doesn't make any difference does it?
were the photos taken in 48mpx or 12mpx quad pixel mode?
0:44 just sums it all up. Thank you
Then you should be buying an Android instead, they have a lot of specs to offer.
May I know did you edit this whole video with M2 Macbook Air? How does it it perform?
yo Tyler, what lens/filter do you use to film your talking head/b-roll? I see some chromatic aberration, but its actually quite nice and has become symbiotic with your own "look" imo
Thanks! It’s the Sigma 24-35mm f/2.0, usually wide open
1:30 14 pro Max and not 13 pro Max, right?
Very informative. Good job! I always upgrade to a new phone every year, and have tried the 'pro' lines, but normally end up settling with the 'non-pro'. The average person just taking photos to share doesn't need the pro; yet we all buy them. Certainly the pro's offer a helluva lot of camera- if you need/want it. I always think I want the zoo- but the macro photography features are the coolest actually.
At 2:04 the Marriott logo is clearer on the iphone 14 than on the 14 pro...
What a great video! You actually convinced me to buy the 14 Pro. Although I’m not sure if I should get the Max or the non-max one.
