Just got my pink base iPhone 15 (on sale on amazon for £699). Upgraded from a iPhone 7. I love it. Weird getting used to not having a button at the bottom and I love how fast face ID is compared to touch ID. I was torn on if to get the plus for the screen size but I'm glad I saved the £100. Was tempted to wait see what we hear about a new SE but was really fed up of my 7 switching off randomly.

5:55 zoom is far better on 14 pro in general and especially video with action mode and cinematic and battery i’ve never had a problem even with the always on display and personally i got the 14 pro for £500 / $650

Btw a minor correction 6:50 actually every iPhone except SE from 13 and later have this capability too, the difference is that 13 and 14 models require us to capture in dedicated portrait mode instead of the phone activating it automatically for you, which means 15 models exclusively can have live portraits and photographic styles activated at the same time
The only reason why the 15 outperformed the 14 in your test is because of the 15s 24mp default capture. If you had set the 14 pro to take HEIF MAX (compressed 48mp) photos it would’ve been way better
Yeah but you shouldn’t really be using 48MP all the time, you get less HDR and more noise. Most of the time their respective defaults should be used and compared.
I got the 14 pro max, and I gotta say, very good choice. Not missing out on anything, and the usbc is not a must have, since I charge my phone overnight, something I don’t expect any of you to be doing💀 but I also got an iPad that changes on lightning cable, so that kinda affects my choice, but overall the 14 pro max is definitely a very solid choice.

@chevbii Although the iphone 15 would be a better choice for me personally because of the usb type c, I would still choose the 14 pro because it technically is a bit cheaper than the newer 15 and most of the features in the 15 is in the 14 pro. There are downsides of the 14 pro but economically for me I'd choose that over the 15.
I think this is the first time that I see a comparison between 15 and 14 pro and winds 15. I really see your point: "normal" people will not shoot on RAW (14pro) and 120 Hz is not THAT important (it's really an advantage, but you get used to 60Hz). Most people care about battery, quality cameras overall and functionality: the winner is 15🥳
but the battery is nearly identical between both, the camera quality is better on the 14 pro. and functionality is almost the same with the 14 pro beating the 15 because of the same chip plus the extra smoothness of the 120hz screen. I'd say the clear winner here is the 14 pro

As someone who has never had a 120hz phone (or any other type of screen for that matter) I can’t for the life of me see an actual difference between 60 and 120. It seems like owning a 120hz device will make you see difference though, and once that happens it’s awkward to go back to 60. I remember back in the day just having stable 30hz was considered a good experience so saying 60hz is bad just feels like nitpicking to me.

I will say though, 60hz isn’t bad, but the problem is, my old phone was very laggy, I had the base 12 and I had updated it to iOS 17 and it got quite laggy especially since I always had max storage, so that might be something to consider too. I will say, my iPad Air, with a 60hz screen, doesn’t feel slow at all, and I’m fine with it. I think it was just my old phone
Comparing my 15 to my wife’s 14 Pro, I think the 14 Pro generally performs better in lower light and also has a better ultra wide lens. I’d probably say that the 14 Pro has a better overall camera. But I rarely use the camera and would rather have USB C and a better battery life so I went with the 15.

I have had both. I loved my 14 pro but sold it because it was too heavy especially for a long use. I would say 15 is overall better as it is much more comfortable to hold, has type-c charging, clicks better pictures and can convert them into portraits. Overall, 15 is a much better device to use.
kephinio I'd go with the 15 as I love the matte back. I've been constantly annoyed a bit with the back of the iPhone 14 Plus. But I love the colour and the feeling of it in the hand. That's why I only use a case when I'm outside the house.
I feel like this video misses a lot of the advantages of the 14 Pro, and undeservedly paints the 15 in a better light. The camera section misses a lot of the features exclusive to the 14 Pro. Night mode portraits, macro photography, Apple ProRAW, as well as ProRes video are all exclusive to the 14 Pro. In addition, the video incorrectly claims that only the 15 can adjust the focus point of portrait mode after a picture is taken. This is an understandable mistake as Apple advertises this feature for the 15 a lot, but is indeed on the iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 17. Take a portrait mode shot on it and give it a go- it’ll be there. In addition, this video also misses features like standby mode and the lidar sensor, which are both exclusive to the 14 Pro and pretty useful. The 1TB storage option is also exclusive to it as well. For battery life, Apple claims 23 hours of video playback on the 14 Pro, and 20 hours on the 15. I trust your estimate is accurate but can’t help wondering if part of the reason for the difference is because your 14 Pro is a year older and the battery is degraded. It is also unclear if the numbers you give are using a the 120HZ mode or not, which would further lower it. Lastly, I feel this video really just undersells the advantages of the 14 Pro even where it acknowledges them. The 120hz display is a huge improvement, the always-on-display is handy, the 3x telephoto lens makes long distance shots better. The scoring makes the 15 seem like the clear choice when in reality, the design is toss-up, camera is a toss-up (one I’d probably give to the 14 Pro), and the battery life and charging is a tossup (one I’d probably give to the 15 for USB-C). Overall, I think the 14 Pro at the same price is the clearly better phone for anyone who doesn’t really want USB-C. @joshuabuwono i think you miss the weight factor too. the aluminium body on iphone 15 is so light compare to the pro iphone. i use the 14 pro for long time and it seem a bit heavy on hand. for long term and comfort, i think people choose iphone 15 rather than last year pro. by the way, great review as always
@shaafay The iPhone 15 is the perfect iPhone to get this year in my opinion. It has the much awaited USB-C port plus the new 48mp camera sensors. These two features alone make it an upgrade from the 14 Pro. Yeah, it’s missing the high refresh rate, but I honestly never notice it that much and it doesn’t bother me.

After using 120 hz, you can’t go back. It feels really choppy and slow and it’s very annoying. You talk about having a 48 mp camera, but the iphone 14 pro has that as well in pro res. The iphone 15 is better than the iphone 14, and the iphone 14 pro is also better than the iphone 14. It is an upgrade of the last generation, and the iphone 15 pro is an upgrade of the iphone 14 pro. If it were just those two devices, ignoring the other phones in our lineup it’s so obvious that the iphone 14 pro is the better devices.
wdyt about battery life on 14pro? i recently was in a tough spot of choosing one or another but went with 14pro in the end mainly cuz of the display, i really want to see 120hz on the phone, hopefully its not a mistake xd (cuz i will get used to it and wont be able to move to 60hz again after haha). 15 and 14pro with 256 gb have almost the same price according to some sellers suggestions here so i chose the second option. only thing that scares me is its battery, that it will die too quickly throughout the day or hearing reports from other ppl that it already has ~87% bc after a year of usage also makes me nervous a bit... but i will try to not be a heavy user with it qq coming from 7plus which dies really quickly these days (wow no wonder, its 7 years old now - you served me well, but after changing the battery in nov '23 two times already (three, if counting first replacement) nothing has changed, it still dies just as quickly - it is probably natural though 😔). so i'm a little afraid that 14pro will die just *as* quickly after 5-6 hours of the screen being on (7p holds for 3-4 hours at best rn i think?? and i have to charge it everyday, if not twice a day). after re-reading this comment i think that i'm far from a light phone user 💀 nooo. i need to fight my habits

For someone like me who stopped using an iPhone in 2019 after it got stolen, I think the iPhone 15 is my choice of an upgrade since the offers for postpaid of iPhone 15 and 14 Pro are almost the same.

me personally went for the 15, honestly the 120hz screen is not sth i do really care about on a daily basis. The 60hz that regular iphones offer is more than enough for me because of how smooth they are, so actually it's not a real problem to me. Besides, I got an iPad Air 5 and being able to charge both devices using one charger is also a big possitive point that made me go for the 15. Also the battery life was a huge must-to consider for me so that's another reason why i chose it.

iPhone 15 is just better ! Switching form an iPhone 13 pro max and yes, initially the 60hz was a bit weird and a pain to my eyes. But, after a couple of hours it was all smooth and adequately fine.
No its not, the 14 pro is miles better than the base 15 you are fucking coping with buying the worse phone. 60hz is terrible and apple shouldnt even sell 60hz phones anymore. You literally downgrade by buying the 15 and you would have been better off keeping the 13PM, you didn't even need to upgrade because the 13PM is still a very capable phone in 2024

The 15 has the same chipset as the 14 pro, a better battery life, it has the same dynamic island, a slimmer design, same frosted back and a 1 year extra major update. So, The 15 is miles ahead. And, 60hz is not a concern for the majority of users ! I myself turned the feature off on my s23 due to it's poor battery life. Edit : it has rounded frames and the type c too😮💨🤌🏻

@firerains Honestly I would’ve chosen the 14 pro because because where I live it cost cheaper then the iPhone 15 and it gives you better display 120 refresh rate, a telephoto camera and the main camera photos are already great, and the hardware looks premium.

@gus_nrvz To be honest I would choose the regular iPhone 15. The fact that it has USB-C now (even though its locked at 2.0 speeds) imo is the biggest game changer. Also, the refreshed design with the matte glass back, and better camera sensors makes it the most substantial change to the regular iPhone line-up since the iPhone 12.
I love the black phone case from spigen and would love to get one as I have never used a spigen case and this might be the perfect opportunity!! Also another 15 wouldn't hurt Dion🤓

And let’s be honest, the matte finished sides look way more sexy (and premium) than the glossy ones! 😁

I will say though, 60hz isn’t bad, but the problem is, my old phone was very laggy, I had the base 12 and I had updated it to iOS 17 and it got quite laggy especially since I always had max storage, so that might be something to consider too. I will say, my iPad Air, with a 60hz screen, doesn’t feel slow at all, and I’m fine with it. I think it was just my old phone

I would rather go for the 14 Pro because refresh rate is important to me and I like having 3 lenses.
Comparing my 15 to my wife’s 14 Pro, I think the 14 Pro generally performs better in lower light and also has a better ultra wide lens. I’d probably say that the 14 Pro has a better overall camera. But I rarely use the camera and would rather have USB C and a better battery life so I went with the 15.

I have had both. I loved my 14 pro but sold it because it was too heavy especially for a long use. I would say 15 is overall better as it is much more comfortable to hold, has type-c charging, clicks better pictures and can convert them into portraits. Overall, 15 is a much better device to use.

I'd go with the 15 as I love the matte back. I've been constantly annoyed a bit with the back of the iPhone 14 Plus. But I love the colour and the feeling of it in the hand. That's why I only use a case when I'm outside the house.

I feel like this video misses a lot of the advantages of the 14 Pro, and undeservedly paints the 15 in a better light.
The camera section misses a lot of the features exclusive to the 14 Pro. Night mode portraits, macro photography, Apple ProRAW, as well as ProRes video are all exclusive to the 14 Pro. In addition, the video incorrectly claims that only the 15 can adjust the focus point of portrait mode after a picture is taken. This is an understandable mistake as Apple advertises this feature for the 15 a lot, but is indeed on the iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 17. Take a portrait mode shot on it and give it a go- it’ll be there.
In addition, this video also misses features like standby mode and the lidar sensor, which are both exclusive to the 14 Pro and pretty useful. The 1TB storage option is also exclusive to it as well.
For battery life, Apple claims 23 hours of video playback on the 14 Pro, and 20 hours on the 15. I trust your estimate is accurate but can’t help wondering if part of the reason for the difference is because your 14 Pro is a year older and the battery is degraded. It is also unclear if the numbers you give are using a the 120HZ mode or not, which would further lower it.
Lastly, I feel this video really just undersells the advantages of the 14 Pro even where it acknowledges them. The 120hz display is a huge improvement, the always-on-display is handy, the 3x telephoto lens makes long distance shots better. The scoring makes the 15 seem like the clear choice when in reality, the design is toss-up, camera is a toss-up (one I’d probably give to the 14 Pro), and the battery life and charging is a tossup (one I’d probably give to the 15 for USB-C).
Overall, I think the 14 Pro at the same price is the clearly better phone for anyone who doesn’t really want USB-C.

i think you miss the weight factor too. the aluminium body on iphone 15 is so light compare to the pro iphone. i use the 14 pro for long time and it seem a bit heavy on hand. for long term and comfort, i think people choose iphone 15 rather than last year pro. by the way, great review as always

The iPhone 15 is the perfect iPhone to get this year in my opinion. It has the much awaited USB-C port plus the new 48mp camera sensors. These two features alone make it an upgrade from the 14 Pro. Yeah, it’s missing the high refresh rate, but I honestly never notice it that much and it doesn’t bother me.

I heard about the poor battery longevity of the 14 Pro series where its battery health tends to drain much faster than previous iPhones. I'm not entirely sure if it is just a local problem or just few devices are hit, but it's making me reconsider the 14 Pro. Is it a known issue?

I have both devices, and I would take the 14 pro all day. After using 120 hz, you can’t go back. It feels really choppy and slow and it’s very annoying. You talk about having a 48 mp camera, but the iphone 14 pro has that as well in pro res.
The iphone 15 is better than the iphone 14, and the iphone 14 pro is also better than the iphone 14. It is an upgrade of the last generation, and the iphone 15 pro is an upgrade of the iphone 14 pro. If it were just those two devices, ignoring the other phones in our lineup it’s so obvious that the iphone 14 pro is the better devices.
wdyt about battery life on 14pro? i recently was in a tough spot of choosing one or another but went with 14pro in the end mainly cuz of the display, i really want to see 120hz on the phone, hopefully its not a mistake xd (cuz i will get used to it and wont be able to move to 60hz again after haha). 15 and 14pro with 256 gb have almost the same price according to some sellers suggestions here so i chose the second option.
only thing that scares me is its battery, that it will die too quickly throughout the day or hearing reports from other ppl that it already has ~87% bc after a year of usage also makes me nervous a bit... but i will try to not be a heavy user with it qq coming from 7plus which dies really quickly these days (wow no wonder, its 7 years old now - you served me well, but after changing the battery in nov '23 two times already (three, if counting first replacement) nothing has changed, it still dies just as quickly - it is probably natural though 😔). so i'm a little afraid that 14pro will die just *as* quickly after 5-6 hours of the screen being on (7p holds for 3-4 hours at best rn i think?? and i have to charge it everyday, if not twice a day). after re-reading this comment i think that i'm far from a light phone user 💀 nooo. i need to fight my habits

For someone like me who stopped using an iPhone in 2019 after it got stolen, I think the iPhone 15 is my choice of an upgrade since the offers for postpaid of iPhone 15 and 14 Pro are almost the same.
I would choose iPhone 15. I don't like heavy phones tbh. Coming from a 120hz phone to a 60hz, my eyes can get used to that just give it a few days.

This debate is the only thing that has been on my mind for the last week. 120hz would be lovely but I really can't decide which one to buy.
me personally went for the 15, honestly the 120hz screen is not sth i do really care about on a daily basis. The 60hz that regular iphones offer is more than enough for me because of how smooth they are, so actually it's not a real problem to me. Besides, I got an iPad Air 5 and being able to charge both devices using one charger is also a big possitive point that made me go for the 15. Also the battery life was a huge must-to consider for me so that's another reason why i chose it.

iPhone 15 is just better ! Switching form an iPhone 13 pro max and yes, initially the 60hz was a bit weird and a pain to my eyes. But, after a couple of hours it was all smooth and adequately fine.
No its not, the 14 pro is miles better than the base 15 you are fucking coping with buying the worse phone. 60hz is terrible and apple shouldnt even sell 60hz phones anymore. You literally downgrade by buying the 15 and you would have been better off keeping the 13PM, you didn't even need to upgrade because the 13PM is still a very capable phone in 2024

The 15 has the same chipset as the 14 pro, a better battery life, it has the same dynamic island, a slimmer design, same frosted back and a 1 year extra major update. So, The 15 is miles ahead. And, 60hz is not a concern for the majority of users ! I myself turned the feature off on my s23 due to it's poor battery life.

I just got the 15 but probably would’ve preferred the 14 pro but I wasn’t able to find any iPhone 14 pros under like 950 so it was cheaper to get the 15. Buy I’m very happy with my 15 so far but it’s only been a few days 😅

Honestly I would’ve chosen the 14 pro because because where I live it cost cheaper then the iPhone 15 and it gives you better display 120 refresh rate, a telephoto camera and the main camera photos are already great, and the hardware looks premium.

To be honest I would choose the regular iPhone 15. The fact that it has USB-C now (even though its locked at 2.0 speeds) imo is the biggest game changer. Also, the refreshed design with the matte glass back, and better camera sensors makes it the most substantial change to the regular iPhone line-up since the iPhone 12.
I love the black phone case from spigen and would love to get one as I have never used a spigen case and this might be the perfect opportunity!! Also another 15 wouldn't hurt Dion🤓

Personally I prefer the Iphone 15, because (in my opinion) for the lower price you get all the “pro” features from last year, except the Pro Motion display and an extra camera lens. And let’s be honest, the matte finished sides look way more sexy (and premium) than the glossy ones! 😁

I would choose 14Pro. Always go for Pro version. The Pro version features ProMotion technology, which is Apple's way of saying it has a variable refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz.
Bruh!!! I got a 15 pro! And trust me once u get a hang of the pro motion and other features, there's def no way u would go back to the base variant. The 60hz is just too slow! And feel wise as well! The pro is way ahead!

I think the 14 pro is the better buy.
People always rock there phones with a case (like Spigen cases 😏) so the build isn't a biggie.
And the iPhone camera, even with their very very minor upgrade with each new phone, will always be great regardless.
