This is EXACTLY what I'd like to do with my 2004 FSTi. Currently running fine and no real oil high consumption etc, but with 130k miles I am hesitant in putting my foot all the way down & really revving it out much for fear of it going bang.
What 130k and your scared to put your foot into it. Dude it’s made it this far I’d say it’s good to go. It’s not the revving that kills them it’s the low rpm high demand situation that kills these motors mainly.
Love your videos. But I'm afraid the RA ej257 block is identical to the normal ej257. Except some small changes to the pistons that make no difference to the strength of the ringlands. There's been failure of the RA engines already in the same areas. Did you check the rings gaps, as subaru do them very tight. The thin cylinder walls are a cause of head gasket failure too. Closed decking is almost a must for proper HG support. Was the oil pump a standard pump or did you upgrade to a modified relief valve? Always taking the cast pistons out and dropping forged ones. Also, the RA pistons are made by a different manufacturer and have a little more silicone in the material which make them more brittle. Sorry to break the bad news. I'll try and send you the information on material used, videos of failures already and discussion and in depth look on the RA piston design. 👍
This is a std engine build for my own stock/standardise car.. I really don't like the nasty forged pistons rattle for everyday use. I appreciate what you are saying but the std engine is enough for what I need so an RA short block is more than enough 👍
Hey duncan if u had to choose for a fast road car equipped with a built 2.1L a turbo out of the lot a high flow vf49, sc42 or mdx321t which would you opt for on 98 octane and full tilt 20% meth mix. Fast road is the goal so the best response is all that matters not dyno numbers.
Hi again. My 2003 wrx sti threw a light on for a Couple of days then went out by its own. It had a fault code stored p0365 Camshaft Position Sensor B Circuit (Bank1). Any ideas on what’s up with it and how to fix it

I am doing a similar rebuild. I’m going to use O-rings even though the engine is using OEM Conrads and pistons what are the modifications? Have you done to this RA Block to ensure it stays reliable?
@@RSADYNAMICS The RA short block pre assembled with crank, rods and pistons is perfect for my application, will easily cope with what I need. For the next build for my Blitzen it will include baffled sump and stronger pickup 👍
Those RCM gaskets are beautiful works of art! 🥰
They are Fuji Racing head gaskets 👍😁
No killer bee pick up pipe
Looks better than one you fitted
Can’t wait for the running in and mapping videos for the forester💪
thank you 🙏
Cheers Duncan, shame the camera let you down. Still good viewing tho. 😊
New camera and ready to go with new content 😁 Thank you 🙏
Love the look of a boxer engine, nice job 👍
thanks buddy 🙏
Knock me one up of you get 5 lol. Very nice.
lol. sure 👍😎

It's a good option imo for a standardise car. To go above 400 I think forged pistons would be a good plan
Just out of interest, where have you sent the gearbox for refresh?
@@jamesgoodright643was about to ask the same thing..!

@christopheredwards357 will probably build the same for the Blitzen when I build that one..maybe with a few trick bits in it too 😁

The VF wins for me 👌
Glad your getting it back on the road Duncan. Which place did you choose for the gearbox refresh? Are you giving the rear diff’ a once-over too?
Thanks 🙏
A local specialist is doing the box. Nothing to the rear diff 👍
Isn't this the shortblock assembly that (somehow) does 1000bhp in the US?
@@PedroFTeixeira Apparently so. I would trust it beyond 420 tbh

Its been done, but it won't last. These are good for a conservative 400whp imo
