Thank you, Mark, for another excellent video! Love your new Gladiator! Like you, I am from Midwest City...although I now live in Northern California. It is always good to get back to MWC to see my family. I certainly enjoy your wonderful videography and photography. Thanks so much for all the work you put into these videos! Cheers!
Yep. But I hate parking lot door dings. LOL: It was the primary reason I put aftermarket rock rails in addition to the OEM Rubi rails. That, and they make a handy step.
@@DxDOverland Same here, I can handle pin striping, trail rash, but parking lot door dings are my enemy! Rock sliders are my next upgrade on my 4runner.
Hi Mark, another great video. I was wondering if you where going to include any of the footage the other folks shot of you Gladiator going up that climb at point 10:32. Cheers Steve
I'm working to get other photos and videos from folks, but we're running into problems with time to deliver vs my production schedule, and some work was shot at low (VGA) resolutions. I need to get this project done before off on another trip in a few days.
Thank you! You'll still see the JK on some trips, but the Gladiator is very nice. I'll discuss that more in a studio chat after the last video in this series.
Hi Mark; Another great video of your travels only this time in your new Gladiator. By the way, I have an 84 CJ7 with no pin stripes on the sides with original paint and under 85,00 miles. Thanks David from the Gold Country of California.
I really like the GMRS radios over CB, we have used them several years on our ranch to keep up with kids and grandkids, now a couple of cousins got their licenses so we have comms with their ranch HQ also. Easier than getting everyone licensed on amateur radio, although a couple of us are.
They are superb for the overlanding community. Ham, especially for general class users, does offer longer comms on HF, but GMRS is perfect for most off-road adventures. And compatible with ubiquitous FRS radios.
Great video. The rule in my group is if you want to run a roger beep on your com gear feel free but you also get to buy all the beer and the gas for the group as well lol.
That was other Mark's tent (though mine is green, too). It was large enough for two people (mine isn't), and the ground was mostly rock that wouldn't take tent pegs. Since it was windy, we shared the one small spot that would. Rest of trip we had better ground and no wind. But Mark does like that tent.
Really nice adventure. Maybe too much shots with the dash mounted camera. Will be great to add video from the other trucks filming each other. But I still enjoyed it.
Yeah, that's always a challenge I face to balance shots from other cameras against interrupting folk's enjoyment of the flow of the trip. I normally try for two or three such shots each day, and two from my drone. But my drone permit request was denied. :-( Since preparing day 1, I've gotten some video from other people shot with their phones that will be included.
People who come here should be warned about some common sense issues. Bring lots of water. Bring lots of shade. I prefer a blanket of reflective bubble wrap above my head in vehicles to reflect away the suns energy. A Garmin InReach device is a must. No cellphone reception out here. Every vehicle needs a good working spare. Two spares is better. All tires need to be 10 to 14 ply. Stay on roads, off road will puncture even 14 ply tires. Don’t travel alone. Have someone expecting you at a certain time. Think and rethink every decision and step you take. Don’t expect everyone who visits here will go home again. If you are not willing to accept that risk for yourself and your guests and family, rethink going to an area named Chisos. It’s named that for a reason. On a lighter side, your video did a good job of showing how a well planned trip through Big Bend could turn out. Yesterday I rescued two stranded FedEx drivers in these mountains. It’s a dangerous place at best. It’s deadly at its worst.
Thanks, Gary. Good advice. I hope the videos show that this was a highly experienced crew at what we did. We try hard to set a good example. Of course, "spirit" or "ghost" is mild compared to my next trip. El Camino del Diablo. The Devil's Highway. Fortunately, another highly experienced crew. Be safe out there.
So I have a 2015 F150 4x4. It’s got a 2.5” leveling kit on it and I’m running 295/60R20 Nitto Ridge grappler tires which are E1 rated 10 ply tires. Would you foresee me having any trouble with this setup on the trails you took? Only thing I didn’t like was the pinstripes. Sorry..... I just like to keep my paint looking new. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for sharing Also wanted to add that I am not an experienced off-roader. Still learning.
That is normally a mild weather season, which makes it a busy season. But I've seen winter storm weather in January down there. It's in one of my video series.
No. We did see a border patrol vehicle here and there, and a helicopter that was likely BP (judging by the way it was hovering along the river in the distance).
No, We drove right by the turn-off, of course, but even that early on the last day I was concerned about time. As you'll see once I release the day 4 video (still need to record studio chat, so look later today), it was nearly the end of the day by the time we reached Terlingua.
Not my area of experience. I recommend you contact Big Bend Ranch State Park directly to see what their policy is on OHVs. 432-358-4444. Be sure you understand the difference between the state and national parks. Definitely not allowed in the national park.
definitely on our Bucket List in Texas!

Thank you. It is a very special place.
I sat at the top of that windmill at 6:45 and shared whiskey with a friend while we watch the sun dissapear.
Sounds like a good time.

Nice Gladiator! It doesn’t rattle, please keep it that way!
I'm afraid the rattles will come with time. Already, it has a squeak.
Took my Taco to big bend last weekend. First time taking it off road. Did great and great views all around!
Wonderful! Where did you visit?
Mark Doiron went to the hot springs then the trail we took was Old Ore Road.

What is the name of that campsite? The view is great!!
That is Guale 2. Yes, it is known for that view as the best campsite in the park.

I'd recommend travel much of this one with somebody experienced. But rig should be fine. Scratching: Visqueen taped on can help, but no guarantees.

Nothing like pinstripes on a brand new rig.
It helps my neighbors to confirm that they think I'm nuts. ;-)
