That place looks like fun to ride. But wow its unforgiving. I couldnt imagine even trying it in the summer, theres no shade anywhere. I was going to bring my bike but the few trails I found info on looked more like downhill rides that were best with a shuttle.
The beginning of this ride is part of a 59 mile IMBA Epic. There are a lot of trails in the State Park. Check my link to MTB Project. Some good trails at the Lajitas Airport, too. And yeah, even at 70ish degrees that day, that sun was beating down and wearing us out! Definitely not a place to ride in the summer! Sunday morning it was around 50 degrees and that was quite comfortable in shorts and short sleeves. Winter is definitely the time to go!
This is great stuff man, so glad I found your channel. My wife and I are planning to get out and explore a lot more now that our last child has just graduated High school and your videos are a great resource! So many of the places you are highlighting are on our shortlist since they're relatively close to the DFW area!! PERFECT!!! Cheers...
I was rewatching some of these older videos and I have to wonder, it looks like you're riding in the valley for the most part, are there any trails out there on top of those large mountains I see in the distance?
@@huntstyle I live in the Dallas, TX area so it's nice to see many of the trails around here in your videos. :) You ever been to Squabble Creek? It's a pretty easy trail and only 4 miles long, but it's nearby and I like it a lot.
Hey Matt I am thinking of heading down there in December to check out Solitario in the west side of the park. How was the cell service when you were down there?
I love riding trails like this but I have a phobia about getting lost off in the middle of nowhere. That made me nervous just watching the part where you guys realized you made a wrong turn.
As I recall, it was marked fairly well, but we did have to check Trailforks a couple times to be sure we were going the right way. You likely won't have a signal out there, but if you download Texas trails ahead of time, GPS on Trailforks should still work.
Down in Houston. Man I felt like I got the deal of the century on my YT and so far zero issues. Sure enjoy the channel and seeing some other trail in Texas. We made it to Brushy Creek in Austin a while ago and it was a blast.
Huntstyle - I am spending WAY too much time researching a new top-o-line mnt. bike. Im spec'ing out everything and studying geometry charts ad nauseam. I'm down to a Yeti 4.5C or YT Jeffsy - but scared to spend so much on Jeffsy having nvr ridden one. I'm actually from Flower Mound TX but live in Houston and ride all over Texas and Arkansas. Can you give any advice here or provide any confidence in the Jeffsy? I'm scared it's too 'enduro/trail' for most Texas single track like Reveille Peak, Flat Rock Ranch, North Shore, Rocky Hill Ranch, and everything else in and around Austin/DFW area. Is this truly an all-round bike? Am I going to get it and then be stalling out on up-hill climbs (i.e. have you found HTA too slack for climbing efficiency?) Would you recommend this bike to me? Thank so much and enjoy your videos!
I came from a Specialized Camber and feel that the Jeffsy actually climbs BETTER than the Camber! You won't have any trouble climbing. It's a great bike for all of those trails, and will still be quite capable when traveling out of state. I hadn't ridden one either when I ordered mine, and I have 0 regrets! Cheers!
Hey, I’m interested in a yt Jeffsy and was wondering if I could sit on urs just to see if it’s something that I would like. I ride northshore every sat and sometimes Sunday. Hope to see u on the trails. Btw keep making vids they are a lot of fun to watch
Okay I'll just stick to hiking when I go out to BBNP. These "trails" look so boring lolol. Not at all trying to be rude or anything its just dang it. Was hoping for so, so much more with all that terrain but I get it, most of it is protected and kept purposely untouched for the Chihuhuan Desert's ecosystem or however you spell it.
I didn't think they were boring at the time, but now that I live in Idaho and ride more big mountain stuff, I might find them boring if I go back, lol! The downhills there weren't very steep.

I'm from DFW, this was my first road trip and camping. Forever mesmerized. Hope to go back again soon with my new MTB.
Yeah man it's beautiful down there!
Nice! I did this loop 3 years ago. This video brings back great memories of mt biking in texas, well done
Thanks! I really enjoyed this trail! Might have to go back again this winter!

Exactly what I hope to inspire!!! That is so great to hear!
It is mid October now in Portland and the late fall rain has started early. Wish I was there right now.
I'm in Idaho now. Season is almost over :(
Looks like a fun trail. Wish it was not 8 hrs from Austin. Lol
But when you gotta ride, you gotta ride.
Yeah, I definitely wish it was closer! Everything is so far from Dallas!
Super cool!!
That's some nice smooth flowy single track!! I need to check it out! Any trail route recommendations??
Yeah, this one!

Wow, this place looks incredible.
It is legit!
@@huntstyle Great channel btw.

I have not been out there. That's pretty far for me!
Hey Matt I am thinking of heading down there in December to check out Solitario in the west side of the park. How was the cell service when you were down there?
I honestly don't remember. I don't think there was service out on the trail. I'm also on Sprint, which is the worst!
I kept thinking the sound of your driveline was the sound of rattle snakes lol
Haha, important to know the difference when you're out there!
@@huntstyle indeed nice ride stay safe!
Thanks for sharing!! Is that go pro on your chest or helmet? Awesome footage!
Thanks! Chest mounted with the EVO SS gimbal.
Man this looks so awesome right now. And then I noticed it was a thousand mile trip. It’s been raining a lot in Arkansas lately. =\
Most of our trails in DFW have been closed for 4 straight months now! I may have to make another trip down to Big Bend to escape all this rain!
Orale bro. Been there many time Like that ball cap
Thanks Harold!
Hey quick question, is the trail on Strava? How many miles Dow you think the loop is?
This route is on MTB Project. It's 19 miles and some change.
I love riding trails like this but I have a phobia about getting lost off in the middle of nowhere. That made me nervous just watching the part where you guys realized you made a wrong turn.
Get Trailforks!
Thanks, I will check it out!
Looks pretty awesome! I’m thinking about going down there around Thanksgiving. Is this loop hard to follow? Don’t wanna get lost alone out there!

@@huntstyle cool appreciate it
Such a beautiful place. Did you camp in the Chisos basin area?
Nope, I camped in Terlingua the first night, and between there and Lajitas the second night.
Fellow Texas and also so sick of this rain. Looking to go to the bike fest out there next year. Are you on a YT?
Zac Caldwell hopefully it's done now! Yep, YT Jeffsy. Love it!
Huntstyle Got my CF1 a few months ago when they went on clearance and its awesome.
Yep, that's when I got mine, too! Where are you located?

You can't beat the spec for the price! YT is killin it! Glad you enjoy the videos, I appreciate the support!

aaand just like that ... it's done. I'm now the proud owner of a YT Jeffsy 29 CF Pro Race. Boom! Thanks man!
PRO RACE! Sweet dude! I take it you just ordered, so now is the waiting game until it arrives?
Yep, the waiting game begins. I'm so stoked.
Great Video. Thanks :)
Thank you Caleb!
Do you remember which campground you used?
Rancho Topanga
Huntstyle Did you need to reserve it way ahead of time or did you just show up?
@@josesbox9555 I reserved it, but I think there were plenty of spots. That was in February. It's only $10/night, or at least was 2 years ago!
Huntstyle Cool.
Great video dude
Thank you!
Huntstyle no problem
How many miles is Dome Loop?
This was the route, 19.8 miles: www.mtbproject.com/trail/621299/dome-loop-via-e-contrabando-trailhead

Brooks Kirchen I never test rode one, just ordered it. Don't regret it!
Will NorthShore survive all this rain? Still hasn’t stop raining.
Assuming the rain is finished now, I'd expect it to be open again in a week or so.
I hope so! Might take Horseshoe a month atleast I guess too.
