Hey, man! Thanks for the inputs! Really appreciate you taking the time to drop it here. 30mm’s a killer but can’t wait to get my hands on the 16mm! Keep going!
I spent quite a bit of time comparing the Sigma 30 1.4 with the Sony 35 1.8. In my own evaluation I found them to be equal in sharpness, but the Sony 35 has OSS which I found to be the differentiating factor. I got more well focused images with the 35 1.8 than the Sigma. The sony 35mm 1.8 is also quite a bit smaller and lighter than the Sigma 30mm 1.8. However the Sony lens is quite a bit more expensive. I have the Sigma trio and there is no question the 56mm 1.4 is one of the best lenses money can buy. The 16mm 1.4 is a great lens too. But the Sigma 30 was the least-best of the three. I finally sold the Sigma 30mm 1.4. Another factor is the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 can be used at 30mm and it matches the performance of the sigma 30mm prime quite well. So with multiple lenses that cover the 30mm range quite well I just had to sell the 30mm 1.4.
Hi there! By your comment I realized that you got both (or at least you owned) the sigma 30mm 1.4 and sigma 18-50 2.8. I want to know which one is sharper? Well the 30mm is 300 dollars cheaper but the other one "cover it all" the sigma trio.
I have the 16mm and seriously thinking about grabbing this one. That price makes it super tempting. I think it'll give me that tighter shot I like for talking head segments.

I totally agree with you with regards to the focal length. I also use the a6400, and the lens that stays on my camera most of the time is the Sony 35 mm F 1.8 OSS. Pretty close to what you're using. Especially for filmmaking, I could definitely live with this lens all the time. I also have the 16-50 kit lens if I really need the wide-angle, and I have the Sony 55 to 210 which I love, but 35mm (52 on my camera) is an awesome way to work. Especially since it works so well on my Crane M2. WinWin. Awesome video as always. Thanks for sharing.
@@DanboxingPH the only thing I notice about the 35 mm is that it loses focus a little bit more than I thought it would. Even just doing a simple Talking Heads video, for some reason it's constantly searching. When it's locked in it looks great, but it does fade away every once in awhile, which is pretty annoying. I try to use manual focus when I'm doing something important. I feel like the autofocus on the kit lens is actually much better.

Great video man! QUICK QUESTION: what is the distance between you an the camara to get the talking head shot from this video? (I know you used a sony a6400) ... thanks in advance
I was trying to pick between this and Sony 35mm OSS. Idally I want the 7artisans 35mm 0.95, but i dont have the most stable hands to focus that lens manually and my a6300 has enough rolling shutter problems on its own haha. But i never quite liked the soul-less footage from the OSS, so I think Sigma's AF can help me so I dont have to manual focus making it shaky. (I want to get good handheld shots, dont like gimbal haha)
I have a a6400 with the 18-135mm, f3.5-5.6 kit lens and mostly do photography and not video. I want to buy a prime lens for the better sharpness and smaller f number (better bokeh and low light performance). The choice is between Sigma 30mm f1.4 and Sony 35mm f1.8, the price being basically the same. Where the first seems to be sharper and better in low light but the second one has OSS. Or is it better to go for the safer option and grab the Sony lens with OSS? Thanks for the help.
I think it boils down to this - are you going to be photo centric or video centric? If photo, I’d go for Sigma 30mm. If video, I’d say the OSS of the Sony 35mm is really an advantage.
Love your videos! I just recently got the a6000 and Im struggling between the 30mm and 16mm. I mainly want to use my video to record gym videos. I don’t necessarily have to get full body shots but I also don’t want to have to back up too far. Any suggestions?
That last part of your needs gives me every reason to suggest the 16mm option. Since you are recording gym videos, space is a huge deal - you wouldn’t want the camera a few feet away from you as it will probably be within someone else’s personal space. The 16mm allows you with a wider field of view which makes it easy to keep your camera close while also allowing it to capture more in the scene. The 30mm will probably require more distance away from you if you want to get more of yourself in frame. However, it is great for closeups! Hope this helps!
Nice vid. helped me make my mind. Been using 16mm for everything, but missing that "natural" look for someshots. Appreciate Brolls for info affirmation. 🙏🏼💯
Hello, I'm loving your content! Been bing watching over here. 😅 However I'm struggling with lens. What lens should I get for my Sony a6400 for indoor portraits? If it has bokeh I'd be even more pleased. I currently have the Sony 85 mm.
Woah! Thanks, Brittany! 🔥 That’s actually a good portrait lens already. However, if I’m to suggest, I’d go for the Sigma 56mm or the Viltrox 85mm. Both are crazy sharp and with good auto focus 😊
Hey, man. I haven’t tried that particular Sigma Art. I’m afraid I can’t really tell. But as for my personal plans, with the Tamron 17-70 being out there, it’s going to be that as my zoom lens together with the Sigma Trio :) Here’s my review of that th-cam.com/video/gpSOcSQmx0M/w-d-xo.html
Should I buy an extra sigma 30mm lens if I already have sigma 16mm lens or I should go with a gimbal like zhiyon webbil S at similar price point which I don't have ?
Nice! I’m actually planning to buy that too - the Sony 35mm f1.8 soon :) Here’s my personal take: 1. If you are more into photography, go for the Sigma. 2. If you are more into videography AND you have a gimbal, go for the Sigma. 3. If you are more into videography BUT you don’t have a gimbal, for for the Sony. There :)
Hey, I just got myself the same lens, Sigma 30mm f1.4 for my zv-e10 but I noticed the autofocus is quite slow. I noticed you don't have this issue when focusing on your face then the box. It takes some time for mine to focus even with a well lit room. And the noise from the focusing is quite noticeable. Any ways to fix this?
I have a question. I own the Sigma 30 1.4 because I only do photography and especially in low light handheld. I wonder if the 35 1.8 would be better for that as it has OSS and would allow me to go down further with the shutter speed in low light. Because if I take longer exposures than 1/50 with the sigma it is getting shaky very often.
Hi, were you getting your 16 mm? I have Sony zv e10 with kit lens and I don't know which one to choose 16mm or 30mm. I need lens for recording vids at the home, somethings like this video here. Help me, Thank you.
@@DanboxingPH … I ended up getting a SamYang 12mm 2.0 wide angle for my ZV. Wide angle with some background blur. Also a manual 17mm TTartisan. With a M2 gimbal. Good kit!
Hey, thanks for this! As I only do talking head videos and have a very short distance between myself and the wall in front of me (90 cm, 35 in), I would need to fit the camera + the lens, which depending on the sigma 16mm or 30mm would mean having to subtract the camera+lens lenghts, so let's say 65cm/26in. Do you think this lens would work? What's the distance this lens needs to be from myself in order fo me to be in frame and not occupy the entire screen? Although I prefer the qualities of this one, would I have to resort to the 16mm? Thanks!
For photography, works just fine even without the OSS. But for videography, it really is a challenge. Especially if your camera has no IBIS and you don’t have a gimbal too. Lack of OSS is practically the main reason why I’m switching to Sony 35mm f1.8 hahaha
What about low light handheld photography? Wouldn’t the OSS of the Sony outrun the wider 1.4 aperture of the sigma? I have the sigma 30 1.4 but in low light I can’t shoot at a slower shutter speed than 1/50 without getting shaky images quite often. With the Sony I heard you can go as low as 1/5, which would keep the ISO lower than using 1.4 aperture on the sigma with a faster shutter.
Hi po! I’m planning to buy these great lens in the future but I’m don’t know where to buy it, if its in local stores or in lazada which is more cheaper, but I’m worried if it is a original lens in Lazada. Can you help me decide in which store I can bought it? Thank you for helping. Hope that you notice this
That’s hard. The Sony 35 is also a monster in terms of performance. But here are main things that made me decide to go with Sigma: 1. F1.4 2. Cheaper 3. Sharper? But if it’s the same price, the OSS of the 35mm will make it harder hahaha
I bought the Sigma 30mm f1.4. The same witch you have. But it dont fit on my Sony a6400. i cant conect it. The ring on the sigma is smaler and the secure hole on a diferent place. so what went wrong????
I think sigma should put 36mm instead of 30mm, because that way the sigma trio will be right with 16mm / 36mm / 56 mm , all ending up with 6mm and 20mm apart for each other

@@Justin_Ports awesome thank you Justin, it’s decided I’ll get the 16mm !
@@LongNguyen-cu9kq Yay!!! I plan on getting the 30mm soon too!
Enjoy, boys!
Nice vid. helped me make my mind. Been using 16mm for everything, but missing that "natural" look for someshots.
Appreciate Brolls for info affirmation.
🙏🏼💯
Hey! Nice to hear that. Thank you 😊
Let’s go 👌🏽
Hello, I'm loving your content!
Been bing watching over here. 😅
However I'm struggling with lens. What lens should I get for my Sony a6400 for indoor portraits? If it has bokeh I'd be even more pleased.
I currently have the Sony 85 mm.
Woah! Thanks, Brittany! 🔥
That’s actually a good portrait lens already. However, if I’m to suggest, I’d go for the Sigma 56mm or the Viltrox 85mm. Both are crazy sharp and with good auto focus 😊
Looked at some of your videos but still cant decide between Meike and this Sigma.
If you have the budget, go get the Sigma. Sharper and with automatic focus.
Let’s be real this man the only guy besides Jared poplin and life through optics we trust on YT
THANKS, MAN!
I used 18-105 mm for past 2 years. Which should be my next lens??
Try go smaller - Sigma 18-50mm
Hi there! Can you recommend what ND filter is best for this lens? I just literally ordered it after watching your video. Appreciate your response!
For budget ND Filter, check out K&F Concept. Affordable yet reliable.
What ND filter do you recommend for the lens? Thanks.
NiSi for sure - amzn.to/4awkaZB
Super helpful. And good commercial!!
Thank you very much :)
Completely off subject, but where did you get that shirt from? It's dope and matches some shoes I want! 😂
It’s the shirt from the 2018 (I guess?) Olympics that was held in Malaysia.
hi can you use this Sigma 30/1.4 to do SWEEP PANORAMA mode
with a6400 ?
Ha ha...
Your conversation is so charming n funny at times.
👍
Yeah even I find this lense very decent for normal use 👍
🙏
Thank you very much hahaha
I am choosing between this (30mm f1.4)+16mm 1.4 and the Art lens Sigma 16-35mm f1.8... Do you have any suggestions?
Hey, man. I haven’t tried that particular Sigma Art. I’m afraid I can’t really tell.
But as for my personal plans, with the Tamron 17-70 being out there, it’s going to be that as my zoom lens together with the Sigma Trio :)
Here’s my review of that th-cam.com/video/gpSOcSQmx0M/w-d-xo.html
Should I buy an extra sigma 30mm lens if I already have sigma 16mm lens or I should go with a gimbal like zhiyon webbil S at similar price point which I don't have ?
I say get the Zhiyun. Then try renting a 30mm so you can just get the feel of it. I think the 16mm plus a gimbal will make tons of great work already.
@@DanboxingPH thanks for helping me in decision making 🥰✌🏻 keep creating
Hello Quick question About to buy 1.8 35mm sony but I saw your reviews.
Can you help me to decide?
Nice! I’m actually planning to buy that too - the Sony 35mm f1.8 soon :)
Here’s my personal take:
You can try doing a firmware update, if you're not already on the latest firmware. The latest firmware fixed the slow AF issues.
If I can’t get the bd filter wouldn’t it help to just grind down iso to maybe 100
Right!
sold my 35 sony 1.8 OSS and pick up the 30 signa and love it
🔥🔥🔥
I have a question. I own the Sigma 30 1.4 because I only do photography and especially in low light handheld. I wonder if the 35 1.8 would be better for that as it has OSS and would allow me to go down further with the shutter speed in low light. Because if I take longer exposures than 1/50 with the sigma it is getting shaky very often.
Sigma 30 mm f1.4 vs Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 what to buy ?
For photo, 30. For video, 18-50.
Hi! What nd filter did you use at 3:15 for this? It looked good under the sun, and without an x or vignetting… thanks!
Hi, Ariel!
I used K&F ND Filter for that. Really affordable and reliable 🔥
@@DanboxingPH thanks so much, I appreciate the fast response, and the quick review 😅 going to buy it right now! 😀
You’re welcome!
Wow! Go go go! Enjoy 😊

I want to ask u that do we need flash with 1.4
And can u make vedio about flash photography some day

What is the lens hood really used for?
I have a canon m50 mark ii , I’m a beginner , and I just got this lens so I’m still learning.
It’s for excessive anount of sun rays and such
@@DanboxingPH oh thanks! I thought I had to use it at all times but I don’t. So that’s good.
Super helpful. Im getting the 16mm for my preordered ZV E10. When it crops (stablilized) it will be like the 30mm lol
I see that hahaha
Hi, were you getting your 16 mm?
I have Sony zv e10 with kit lens and
I don't know which one to choose 16mm or 30mm. I need lens for recording vids at the home, somethings like this video here. Help me, Thank you.
That would be perfect, ZV-E10 plus Sigma 16mm! 🔥
@@DanboxingPH … I ended up getting a SamYang 12mm 2.0 wide angle for my ZV. Wide angle with some background blur. Also a manual 17mm TTartisan. With a M2 gimbal. Good kit!
perfect video ! thx. subscribed + liked
Thank you!!!
Hi , would you think this lens would be good for using as a webcam on a live stream ?
Or would Id be too much zoomed in ?
It might be too zoomed in. You might want to check the Sigma 16mm.
👍 nice . whats your recommended NDfilter po ?
Thank you!
Try K&F Concept ND Filters.
Thanks!
For small spaces, I’d really recommend the 16mm. Otherwise, the 30mm is a good option too but you need more space.
Hey mate, what specs and brand of nd filter do you use? Cheers
K&F Concept! And it’s a variable ND.
Salamat bro! Always watching your videos/guides from NZ.
Which one is Best Viltrox 23mm f1.4 vs Sigma 30mm f1.4
Haven’t tried the Viltrox 23mm but I’d say I’m more than satisfied with the Sigma 30mm.
@@DanboxingPH JAZAK ALLAH
Hello. What ND filter brand can we buy for Sigma 30?
If you have the budget, go for PM VNDs. Otherwise, you can check out K&F’s.
What about the lack of image stabilitation for photography or video?
No OSS
Bro which is best
Sigma 30mm vs sony 50 mm
Sigma 30 for me. Better focal length and sharper image quality.
What camera and lens are you using to film this video ?
I was using Sony a6400 & Sigma 30mm f1.4
@@DanboxingPH what is your current setup now ?
A-roll: Sony a7iv & Sony 20mm f1.8 G
B-roll: Sony a7iv & Sony 50mm f1.2 G Master
I liked your vidio..but is this lens good for sony Zv-E10
FOR SURE!!! Super good with zv-e10.
what store did you purchase the Sigma 30 Sir?
Got it from Lee Photo PH! 👌🏽
Hi, with which application did you edit between the two modes at minute 3:20?
Help me pleaseee😮
You might be asking for the lens filters I used not the application. I used VND filters on those shots.
@@DanboxingPH I have a sony a6400, can I make the settings like your device?

Nah. But you can search for it - K&F Concept VND filter

Yes! But it’s not linear.

Hi po! I’m planning to buy these great lens in the future but I’m don’t know where to buy it, if its in local stores or in lazada which is more cheaper, but I’m worried if it is a original lens in Lazada. Can you help me decide in which store I can bought it? Thank you for helping. Hope that you notice this
Hello, Jay.
Check out Lee Photo PH and Gadget Master on Facebook. They are also on Lazada. Yung Lazada links nila, sure yun. Original lahat.
Thankkk youuuu for noticing you’re a great help po 😍😍 more power to your channel!!! 😉 God bless you po!
How do you compare this with Sony 35mm 1.8
That’s hard. The Sony 35 is also a monster in terms of performance.
But here are main things that made me decide to go with Sigma:
1. F1.4
2. Cheaper
3. Sharper?
But if it’s the same price, the OSS of the 35mm will make it harder hahaha
kuys what is the nd filter did you use?
K&F, Mark :)
Hi sir! Ano pong ND Filter ginamit nyo dito? Thank you 😊
K&F Variable ND Filter
I bought the Sigma 30mm f1.4. The same witch you have. But it dont fit on my Sony a6400. i cant conect it. The ring on the sigma is smaler and the secure hole on a diferent place. so what went wrong????
Oh no, is it DC DN?
@@DanboxingPH Yes, but for e mount. :) the Website and the Box says E-Mount.
@@DanboxingPH DC DN E - Mount
Now I don’t know why it won’t fit :(
I think sigma should put 36mm instead of 30mm, because that way the sigma trio will be right with 16mm / 36mm / 56 mm , all ending up with 6mm and 20mm apart for each other
That makes sense, bro!
Does it give a better Bokeh than the 16mm F1.4?
Yes because of the compression
@@DanboxingPH I know the 56mm is the sharpest of the Trio but Can we say the 30mm is sharper than the 16mm as well?
plz suggest me prime lens for landscape photography

That commercial haunts me till date 😰
Bro how is it for video ?
Hey, man. If your camera doesn’t have IBIS, you’d want to use a gimbal. This doesn’t have in lens stabilization. So it’s not the best option for video. But for photo, it’s amazing :)
You forgot to mention the horrendous chromatic aberration on this bad boy at low f stops. Be prepared to edit it out of the photos
You know the lens is good when the only complaint is lack of stabilization
Agree, bro!
