  • Welcome to Singapore! Today, I'm going to fly in Air India's Boeing 787 business class from Singapore to Delhi. Although I have seen many mixed reviews about this airline online, I believe some of them may have been exaggerated. Therefore I decided to book this flight, let's go and find out what Air India is really like!

Hi everyone, thank you for watching! How do you find the length of my latest flight reviews? Do you think I should spend less time on introducing the airport and showing the lounge? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. 😊

The service/food/cleanliness has been drastically improved since the takeover by Tata and once the interiors get refitted with the 1-2-1 (all seats with aisle access) configuration then Air India will really compete with the likes of Qatar, Emirates, Singapore the other Middle East and Asian carriers. Air India is well and truly back or lets say the Maharaja is back. Namaste!!!

Air India is headed in the right direction. All the decisions they have taken since privatization are more or less correct. The interiors are at least clean and mostly functional, they have 5 aircraft with ex-Delta interiors in service, 6 new A350s coming this year and 6 ex-Etihad 777s coming. All of this is to fill the gap till their 400+ plane order begins to be delivered. I am really excited for the future of this airline & wish them the best. India deserves the Air India of the 1960s and 70s when it was known as one of the world's best airlines.

The ones out of SFO to DEL are ex-Delta 777-200s that I would have preferred , but WTH , will bite the bullet and see what Campbell Wilson has in store for me. The point you made about the 'best food in the skies', is well taken and I'm excited about the gastronomic delights in-store for this 16.5 hour flight.

I've really like the times I've been to Singapore. Some as a stop-over, while others have been as the destination itself. The one thing that struck me was how clean and tidy it was. No graffiti, rubbish etc. Lush tropical roadside/freeway gardens, city gardens, greenery everywhere.
The food is great if you stay away from the tourist traps, I'm looking at you Raffles Hotel with your outrageous prices for a 'Singapore Sling'. At least the peanuts are still free. On a side-note, about a decade ago, Raffles got a renovation. Unfortunately, they created a replica of the iconic 'Long Bar' and built it in a new addition. I think the original 'Long Bar' is still accessible to hotel guests.
Go where the locals go to eat. The metro is fantastic, and you can get to anywhere quick and fast. The stations are everywhere. I stay in a little place called 'Little India' and it's great. It has the best Indian food from all regional areas of India. It's close to a 4-storey mall that caters solely to the Indians and Sri Lankan work force. Their Indian supermarket was fascinating. It's also close to the night markets in Orchard Road (Mmmm, roasted Chestnuts). The workforce in Singapore does rely on immigrant labourers from such countries as India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal etc. Then there's the financial side, with many foreigners now calling Singapore home.
The hotel In Little India was new but very small rooms with tiny windows that barely opened. The bathroom was 'interesting'! It was a micro, self-contained, plastic, all-in-one, cubicle with a tiny shower and no shower curtain. The water went all over the toilet and the floor. The door had a 'lip' you had to step over to keep the water in the bathroom.
The room was tiny with nowhere to place luggage. The small TV was at an odd angle on the wall up high, only watchable by standing as there were no chairs! But we did have great views from the rooftop swimming pools looking down on the famous 'Shop-houses (Chop-Houses?)', Indian Temples, Muslim Mosques, Chinese Temples and Singapore's commercial and entertainment districts as well as those sky-scrappers!
Don't bother with Santosa Island, though. It's a bit of a rip-off, as are electronic goods. It's not as cheap as it once was. Beware, you can't use the rooftop infinity pool at the marina casino unless you are a guest. Use the Sky Wheel, it's just as good.

Excellent stuff Rory - This is certainly going on my list of "must do travel experiences"
    Meal looked very impressive.
I remember flying from LA to Miami on United Airways which was a long 5 or 6 hour flight. No meal. Only one complimentary turkey sandwich with drinks available at extra cost. The headphones were also at extra cost.
One of the longest and tiring flights I have taken (I flew economy class - the 1st and business class got caviar and champagne of course - and free headphones)
    😁

Same as Turkish Airlines that seat. Its honestly still the best sleep I had in flatbed mode , compared to any other businessclass seat. How home the others cant make it this good ? But ok, 1-2-1 is the future for these airlines.

    • @RoryDing
      @RoryDing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah these old seats do have the advantage of having more space

I’m still not convinced tbh.. apart from the on board catering, which your peers all agree is usually excellent.. maybe a long haul trip between Delhi or Mumbai and South east Australia might reveal more? Economy class should always be the meter to judge an airline by .. but it seems from your review that the Tata/SQ takeover means something positive is happening there.. which can only be a good thing ! 🙏

If the other seat was occupied, would you have to walk over that person if they were sleeping. I would find that very troubling. I like the business class on Air Canada where each person has their own pod. Very private and comfortable.

Hi! I have posted updates in the community section of my channel and in the comment section of that video. 😊
Basically, the Biman management team saw that video within a few hours of its publication and sent me an apology email immediately. I then requested a full refund and reimbursement for the new flight that I had to book with another airline.
They agreed to my demands and have already refunded me. Although not officially confirmed, I believe that manager has lost his job too.
