The Nords, assuming that said skeletons were being attacked by Nords, were using Thu'um, the Voice. More specifically the Fire Breath shout. Being the most common shout that Dragons use, I can see this being the most commonly known amongst the Nords back then as well. Ergo, the ancient Falmer in their panic whilst being attacked tried to use Fire Resist potions to prevent their death, and were either blasted or cut down before they could. Both could also be true as well. It's very well possible that the Nords knew Falmer were weak to fire, and so went in with the specific goal of primarily using fire in various ways to take them down all the easier, be it through Shouting, fire magic, or more conventional means like fire arrows.
To extend on things a bit more, it also makes sense that if Falmer/Snow Elves back then were weak to fire, a Falmer vampire would be INCREDIBLY weary of the sun as the two weaknesses to fire would stack together, plus that, coupled with the sun being a weakness as well, would be a very very bad thing indeed for such a being. So wanting to end the 'Tyranny of the Sun' would on the flip side be a goal one like that would seek above all others for very good (well, evil) reasons.
Honestly I'm not sure. Both events happened in the late Merethic Era, and no specific years or time frames are given beyond that. So either could've happened first. It's possible that the Snow Elves were attacked first, and by extension it's also possible that Dragons were involved. Frankly the Skyrim lore is kinda all over the place. Sounds like when the king was slain, some of his remaining soldiers tried to grab what they can and escape quickly, some of them either got too greedy and died of exposure, wounds or exhaustion
for that mass graveyard beneath the lake's waters, wouldn't the most likely explanation be that its the two dragon's leftover dinner? sure dragon's don't actually need to eat, but you get the idea.
One of the most beautiful places in Tamriel! I need to go back there soon! As you pointed out at the start, a lot of people rush through. When going for the first time myself, I had no idea such a vast area was ahead of me. Had I known, I would've done a huge loot dump back home and prepared for a more lengthy adventure so I could take more time exploring everything in the Vale. Might have to go back there asap!
I love playing Frostfall in Forgotten Vale, it's terribly difficult with little caves and virtually no campfire scattering around. I found my self literally run around for my life
Perhaps the Falmer and/or snow elves practiced sky burial? Some cultures do deliberately leave bodies out for the birds, and Auriel is associated with birds, so it would make sense. Maybe the berry bush in that one skeleton was from a bird pooping out the seed, lol.
I'm fairly certain that most of the skeletons were slaughtered by those two dragons. Because if dragons are eternal, and they live the *FORGOTTEN* Vale, if they did kill all of the snow elves living in the forgotten vale it is likely that they were not resurrected by alduin but rather have lived there ever since the snow elves. And the blades would not have hunted them down because of course the vale that they live in is clearly forgotten, hence the name: forgotten vale. This is also apparent in the fact that you will find pillars submerged under the ice hinting that something must have had to destroy those pillars and fling them into the water.
I was in there last week now watching this I gotta go back in hahah. Gotta find the books and paragons, I rushed through on Xbox sorry (no mods), I always get lost to, first time PS4 I was in there for hours lol :) thank you Camel
The skeletons who died on the chests were most likely killed trying to escape the attack on the chantry by the Falmer. The more interesting piece I haven't figured out is how the Frost Giants came into possession on the paragons considering how valuable they must have been.
Just finishing the DLC brought me here. I was so fascinated by the place. When I was in the forgotten vale it felt like it wasn’t Skyrim. It felt like something more lost, creepily beautiful.
I wish for there to be a group of at least a dozen of Snow Elves and quests connected to them in the next installment of the Elder Scrolls. I just love their armor and structure designs and something about them just looks so magical to me, more than the other Mer races.
Perhaps the locations the Paragons teleport you to used to be important rooms or halls. Perhaps they were just used as shortcuts, the forgotten vale is huge after all.
Hey guys, did anyone catch the water fall that drops you right back into the Darkfall area? Travel further south past the second ice wraith to the end of the lake. There's a tiny waterfall that sweeps you into a deadfall back into Darkfall grotto, then Darkfall passage. Super fun, like a rollercoaster Skyrim style 😬 great job as usual Camel, you're the best!! Love your curating curiosities videos 💚💚💚
Only one thing missing from your videos. A laugh track going off for each pun. Seriously though, great to see C3 back! Every place becomes more awesome when you see all the little details.
12:05. Maybe there is a more or less sane reason why all those skeletons are out there. Every culture and sometimes even some detached little communities have their own traditions of burying their kind. Throwing the body into the water with the most precious possessions of the deceased elf (hence the satchels) might've just been the way snow elves in the Forgotten Vale buried all their dead. Looking at the surroundings, the place is pretty brutal and there were obviously quite some deaths not only from the old age there. Besides, there is so much water in that place, which is no use for elves, especially considering how cold it is, so it wasn't really occupied by anyone or anything, ever. Digging and burying is a very long process, especially with the amount of elves that most likely died all the time, and with how the whole place is basically covered with ice, meaning that the ground was probably almost stone hard. Adding to all that, most of the water is covered with ice, so it's not like you're walking around outside and see lots of bodies lying around in clear water. They're technically buried underneath something too. And, it's actually sort of poetic, just not very common for us. 14:48. Now this. Here, it might be a graveyard. Falmer still went a long way from snow elves, and the culture changed too, so they might've started burying the bodies this way. Or, this might be a sacrificing ritual or something. Maybe those things are not grave stones, but some sort of ritual stones that are supposed to talk to gods or nature or whatever. And, at 18:52 there seem to be the same "ritual stones" around the troll's scull as well, so I can totally see them being a part of the falmer religion or something of that kind. Doesn't mean they can't mark grave stones as well, though, since death and after-life is a huge part of many religions. We might never know. 16:10. It might've been a punishment, or that person - whoever they are, might've done that themselves. People, who commit suicide do things like that quite frequently. They mark the place, or take a picture of it and post it online, or just write a goodbye letter. Those are more or less mundane, modern things people do, so what we see in the Forgotten Vale might just be the same psychological reaction, just expressed in a different way, with the only tools and resources this poor person could have had there at that moment. 17:16 and 21:16. Here, I'm not sure about one detail, so this whole idea of mine might fall down the drain, but I'll still say it. First, the detail I'm not sure of - how did snow elves transition into falmer? They all collectively became blind, but I suppose that they became this half-sane, half-animal creatures after years, when generations changed, right? If that's true, maybe mining was performed by the 'middle ground' generations. So, sort of the half-falmer, half-snow elf generation that was already pretty basic, like falmer, but still had quite some features and habits of snow elves. The falmer could then just lose the ability or need to mine with time, as the generations changed and they became more and more animal-like, but there was a certain point, when the falmer were just snow elf enough to still mine, but already use the more simplistic weapons and all that. From 24:16 and all the way through to somewhere around 30:00. As for the paragons, obtaining some of which doesn't feel very rewarding, I'm sure that from the story's perspective, there was something very important there and it just got ruined by time or some sort of natural disaster, maybe something else. But, from the game's perspective, I've always found it a bit lazy. Maybe they tried to make it "level-ish", as in: the harder it is to find the frost giant and fight him off, the cooler the prize is. But, I'm not sure how accurate or circumstantial this is, so who knows. Going through all that trouble and not really finding much did feel very shitty, though. Wish there was something more important there. Anyways, those were just some things that came up in my weird brain, while I was watching. As always, fantastic video. I'm sure a lot of work and time was put into this, so I appreciate it immensely. Jokes and puns are on point, as always, so bonus points for that. Looking forward to see more amazing stuff like that in the future!
The falmer didn't invade the forgotten Vale and kill the remaining snow elves until far along in their devolution. The falmer were already the twisted creatures when they attacked
man skyrim is so damn huge... still new things that pop out out of this massive world.. i just love it. thank you camel for discovering all this. I'm new here watching a lot of your vids and i can just say keep at it dude they are awesome!
Toby Smith I WILL MAKE YOU DANCE AND THATS SUFFERING ENOUGH CUZ YOU’LL DANCE TIL YOUR SKIN TURN TO BONE IF IT COMES TO THAT YOUR REMAINS WILL EVENTUALLY BE WORTH NOTHING TO ME !!
You forgot the Underwater Battlefield. A bunch of Flamer warriors are found drowned floating underwater. Its a secret passageway. You have to continue through the river near the flamer boat. Once you are there. Dont climb the stairs yet you can just continue swiming and you will find the entrance. You can also find a map bug where you can go and its really cool.
I played Skyrim so much but there are still places to see and lore to learn. I still keep playing Fallout NV to this day and i need to try and explore fallout 4.
I recently came back to replay Skyrim and ended up at this series. I love it. I'm a wanderer. There's so much in the details of the world in this game before even considering quests. I wish I had some term for it to find more of this sort of content.
11:11 For those who wonder, the Dovahzul inscription says "GaaN", which means "Stamina" (in fact it's the first word of the Drain Vitality shout, as he later says).
I like how the music sounds when he mentions Sharpslope Cave having the same kind of stones you see in Blackreach because it just sounds more ambient at the right moment.
This has to be my favorite place in all of Skyrim next to Blackreach. There is so much beauty here i sometimes just walk and look around taking in a peaceful sites.
Looks to me like the Snow Elves were likely fleeing to a safe place for the forces of Ysgrammor and his Dragon Priests, as we know the ancient Nords worshiped and served dragons. Thus the chests they carried and died with, the last of their worldly possessions. It also makes sense of the swords they were slain with, and the potions to resist the dragon fire. Likewise the mass graves, and the places where they could Telenor away to a rock or ledge that didn't seem to be anywhere special, just "somewhere else" that they could reach quickly if an attack came.
24:30 *Camel ! If you go down the cave, you will find some unique falmer ! They are called feral Falmer !!!* 29:20 *This was indeed a snow elf, his name was Mirtil Angoth, you can read it in the book which is his diary*
Dude the puns are excellent!!! Well done sir, very very droll, I found myself looking forward to the end of each segment just to see how you'd weave one in
The fire resist potions are a reference to the tendancy to undress while freezing to death, as it feels like you've caught fire. Paradoxical undressing.
Camelworks perhaps a study of the augur of dunlain and the magic that flows through the college would help since it’s stated that the magic is what saved the college.
Hadn't played in yrs. Started a new character just to hone my skills again in 2021. Now I'm going to go back to the Vale with my lvl 77! Think I may have missed a few goodies ;)
For the berry man and hanging offering, I believe that the Falmer are using ancient Snowelf corpses for their rituals, for instance the berry man might have just been a betrayed Snowelf, or one killed by the dragons, that might have attempted to shield itself from the fire or sword or whatever, that was later found by the Falmer and used as a ritual. The ring might have been loot they found, from the miners or the corpse wore it when they found it, and placed on the hand by the Falmer to decorate it or as a part of a ritual. The berryseeds were then later planted by the Falmers, in some ritualistic or symbolic way. As that one snowelf priest guy said, the Falmer might be regaining their former intellegence and humanity, which might cause them to form religions or to respect their dead or, possibly, attempt to thank or copy their ancestors as best they can, they are beginning to build graves ( or something like graves ) for the thousands of dead Snowelves. With that in mind, the hanging offering was probably a suicide, that was turned into a shrine or grave later.
The Forgotten Vale is my favorite place in the game. I like the remote areas, and in mods I like having the house in its own world space or be high in the mountains around the borders. But the vale takes it to another level. It's a beautiful glacial valley hidden by unscalable Druadic (can't spell it) peaks. From the Inner Sanctum forged in frozen peaks to the alien forests, the snowy forest accessed from the Paragon Portal, the frozen lake where dragons lurk, the Falmer caves, the huge Glacial Crevice, even the crag where spiders nest, it is a beautiful, alien place that I loved when I first saw it. Somebody, please make a mod where you rebuild the Inner Sanctum and put it on Xbox, I bet it would take a lot of scripting, but people have remade the entire game.
In Darkfall Grotto if you jump to the lower area of the place there are also very disturbing Falmer that seem alot more creepier than usual. It's like they're feral
I always felt like Bethesda bit off more than it could chew with the Dawnguard dlc. I much preferred having one intricately detailed area like the the Dragonborn dlc, rather than just having lots of visually appealing but generally uninteresting areas scattered all over the place.
dorgesh Definitely. I liked the new items that they added and the vampire lord form, but other than that this DLC was not that good. Reminds me of Automatron to an extent, but Automatorn was done much better. The Soul Cairn was an actual nightmare to traverse. Forgotten Vale wasn't that good either and the story was unsurprisingly average. Dragonborn was fantastic though.
Triss Merigold The only thing that I don't like about Dragonborn is that there was already a bit of a weird scale problem in Skyrim where all the cities looked a bit like villages, but in Solstheim it was like 10 times worse. Literally the Skall village was the size of a Santa's grotto, and although it was my favourite looking area in the whole game, the Ashland's around Tel Mithryn were literally the size of a football pitch. I think they made up for it though with all the detail.
There are more books than just the ones in this video, 2 are in the falmer huts on tables. Also 3 feral falmer that seem to have slain the more normal Smeagle type falmer a whole group. These falmer are in the buff. Then as you fight vyrthur you will notice that some of the frozen falmer have what appear to be the wings of a vampire lord!
I think that all these skeletons (especially the two ones, one with an elven sword In his back) are the final testimony of the invasion by the falmers to annihilate the last survivors of the original falmers (snow elves), who still lived In the Auri-El temple and their last efforts of resistance to save their treasures, their culture, and maybe, their princes and princesses. 😢😢😢
I have always wondered where the damn shellbugs were in Skyrim! I don't know how many times I have been to the Vale, and spent hours just exploring it, yet I never noticed either of the bugs.
Part of me hopes we get the choice to play as Snow Elfs in TES6 or at least get to learn more about them and see many more alive. They're so cool and my favorite elves of TES world.
The Forgotten Vale is one of the most beautiful places I've ever explored in Skyrim. Not more beautiful than Blackreach in my opinion, but definitely a close second.
I wonder why there are no other ancient falmer ruins in Skyrim and how the forgotten Vale was destroyed. I mean why did the falmer here devolve into the modern falmer. Shouldn't they be (one of the) last ancient falmer community in existence because nobody knows this location
Well the vamp snow elf said the betrayed wiped out the enclave of snow elves, but, I have don't know like you all, how they got there, maybe there's a tunnel from blackreach?

Because if dragons are eternal, and they live the *FORGOTTEN* Vale, if they did kill all of the snow elves living in the forgotten vale it is likely that they were not resurrected by alduin but rather have lived there ever since the snow elves. And the blades would not have hunted them down because of course the vale that they live in is clearly forgotten, hence the name: forgotten vale. This is also apparent in the fact that you will find pillars submerged under the ice hinting that something must have had to destroy those pillars and fling them into the water.
Maybe they were hunting the dragons.
Forgotten Vale is an amazing place , I hope they include it in Elder Scrolls VI too
If it takes place in High Rock, they might.
@@katherinesharp8830 it is most likely going to be in Hammerfell.
@@afinoxi Since the Forgotten Vale is kinda wedged between Skyrim and High Rock, I doubt it will be in the game then.
This is the best damn thing I've ever woken up to
Jim Kirk aren’t we all?
Maybe that mass underwater grave is part of the Dragons' lair.
Solstheim next please!!
That's very damn likely.
Camelworks OH THANK AZURA
Camelworks Yay! I love Solstheim!
The Soulcairn and the holds of Falkreath and Winterhold would be interesting too!
And maybe the Soul Cairn after that?
Unless you've already done that
Only one thing missing from your videos.
Skull*
thanks :)
Last time I was here everyone use to remember me :(
Noveni Othran tf are you
NEW- BYZANTIUM-ORDER m.th-cam.com/video/1-UQ5BO0iBk/w-d-xo.html you’ll recognise me here.

Toby Smith I WILL MAKE YOU DANCE AND THATS SUFFERING ENOUGH CUZ YOU’LL DANCE TIL YOUR SKIN TURN TO BONE IF IT COMES TO THAT YOUR REMAINS WILL EVENTUALLY BE WORTH NOTHING TO ME !!
Toby Smith ooo she mad xD
Even 4 years later I still comeback here just for a long calming video
I was hoping you'd keep this going. I love this series.
That moment when you realize you haven't explored you shit out of Skyrim jet. "sigh, I guess i can play for another 100 hours"
Huzzah! Curating Curious Curiosities are back! Together with Perfectly Pure Puns!
11:11 For those who wonder, the Dovahzul inscription says "GaaN", which means "Stamina" (in fact it's the first word of the Drain Vitality shout, as he later says).
I think that spider and hanging corpse could be a lord of the rings Easter egg.
Honestly, listening to one of these after a shift at work is a great way to come down from the ceiling. Thank you for making them.
the PUNS! love em, and keep em comin
I like how the music sounds when he mentions Sharpslope Cave having the same kind of stones you see in Blackreach because it just sounds more ambient at the right moment.
Have you thought of doing one of these on blackreach?
It will be done.
And maybe in the soul cairn.
This has to be my favorite place in all of Skyrim next to Blackreach. There is so much beauty here i sometimes just walk and look around taking in a peaceful sites.
Oooh nice one ideal master. To hot to sleep tonight this is perfect. :):) another high quality video king Camel
They are called feral Falmer !!!*
29:20
*This was indeed a snow elf, his name was Mirtil Angoth, you can read it in the book which is his diary*
Dude the puns are excellent!!! Well done sir, very very droll, I found myself looking forward to the end of each segment just to see how you'd weave one in
I once came to the overlook without the paragon (I don't have them yet^^) just by jumping around the area.
The fire resist potions are a reference to the tendancy to undress while freezing to death, as it feels like you've caught fire. Paradoxical undressing.
Could you do a lore/detective series on the great collapse? Love your vids btw, keep it up man
if I can find enough to make a video on!
Camelworks that’s true man there’s not a whole lot to go off of besides that one book in the college and conjecture from the locals.
Camelworks perhaps a study of the augur of dunlain and the magic that flows through the college would help since it’s stated that the magic is what saved the college.
The augur of dunlains pursuit of power took him to beyond a physical form and the great collapse was most likely caused by him
But Camelworks is way better at this than me, keep up the great work Camelworks
Hadn't played in yrs. Started a new character just to hone my skills again in 2021. Now I'm going to go back to the Vale with my lvl 77! Think I may have missed a few goodies ;)
Falmer cant bother burying their dead. They already cant see
Ben Dubwa they don’t see the point, do they?
Love this series. I learned so much.
What do the chests contain again? didnt catch that
The lore is so amazing the forgotten vale is truly a beautiful place
All of those bodies grouped together at the bottom of the lake... very reminiscent of Dunmer burials, eh?
"if you'll look at the map, sadam Hussein is right here, where my character is located"
Would love one about the dark fall cave, it is very very misterious.
I love your videos. I always learn so much about a world so deep and rich.
Oh i forgot about the forgotten vale
i wonder if the dwemer knew that the snow elves may have had large amounts of aetherium ore
Love this series!!
In Darkfall Grotto if you jump to the lower area of the place there are also very disturbing Falmer that seem alot more creepier than usual. It's like they're feral
Did he just call that Falmer Thicc?
Look at them thighs bruh
Thank you Camel, this was a wonderful video. You showed me so many things I never knew existed here.
13:08 that, my friend Camel, is a DRAGON TOILET.
Am I seeing things, or just communicating with Peyrite!!
Thank you sooo much for doing this again Camel! I know it must take a massive amount of time and effort just to get this out for us (and those puns ;)
Literally just about to do this mission👍😁
Same!
I have always wondered where the damn shellbugs were in Skyrim! I don't know how many times I have been to the Vale, and spent hours just exploring it, yet I never noticed either of the bugs.
can we get a bad pun counter?
0
Part of me hopes we get the choice to play as Snow Elfs in TES6 or at least get to learn more about them and see many more alive. They're so cool and my favorite elves of TES world.
You are the Sans of Skyrim! And I love it!
Kitsune Lover Get out.
There’s no place to sleep in the Forgotten Vale which unfortunately makes it too difficult in Survivor Mode.
Those shellbugs look delicious. Yes I be Cajun.
No map, unless you bought the Skyrim special edition guide book. It came with a Dragonborn bookmark too.
YÄÄÄS I've wanted this video to happen 4 4ever
Dreams do come true.
The Forgotten Vale is one of the most beautiful places I've ever explored in Skyrim. Not more beautiful than Blackreach in my opinion, but definitely a close second.
Rt if camel is ur bae
Awesome video bro, your knowledge on the lore is very educational, my favorite hands down. I really hope to see more thanks bro 🤙🏽.
I wonder why there are no other
ancient falmer ruins in Skyrim and how the forgotten Vale was destroyed. I mean why did the falmer here devolve into the modern falmer. Shouldn't they be (one of the) last ancient falmer community in existence because nobody knows this location
I had the same thought. If there is no evidence of Dwemer being in the Vale why would there be Falmer there?
maybe the vampire Falmer who I forgot his name poisoned them so they could not look upon his shame or so they could be abominations like him
Well the vamp snow elf said the betrayed wiped out the enclave of snow elves, but, I have don't know like you all, how they got there, maybe there's a tunnel from blackreach?
Eli Odum ok thx I did not know that because I don't have the dawnguard DLC
aysseralwan Well, it isn't the "forgotten" vale for no reason.
