I think they "killed" Michael off-screen because in doing so there is always the option if Scott Speedman ever wanted to come back, they could then come up with a way to explain how he is still alive. You noticed in blood wars when Selene has the vision of Michael's blood being drained you/she doesn't actually see him dead, you just assume that he's died. It would be amazing if they could get Scott to come back for one last movie where there finally able at the end to bring Selene, Michael, and their daughter back together as a family.
The thing with micheal is he was drained and thought dead, he has been thought dead before, showing no signs of life. If we follow the rules, micheal being drained is equal to an elder being in a dormant state when also drained. So there is every chance if they do another film that he can come back if given fresh blood. Could also be the reason why eve went missing.

Looking at this from the Timeline perspective I think it all makes sense and I can accept the end of the franchise like this, with Selene having closure and owning the title she deserves. Despite me grieving the fact Michael was mercilessly killed off screen, I do think the way they did it was very efficient, cause not only Selene was shocked and lost all hope: We all did too. We were suffering and shaking our heads in denial with her. The down side, though, is that she had months worth of "on screen time" to mourn and move on while becoming an Elder, while the audience had to leave the theater outraged. Still, I can't be mad at it after all these years.

I want to see vikings fighting off werewolves or werebears or vampires. Also samurai fighting off mythical creatures as well. We need more famous historical warriors fighting mythical monsters. Set in the historical time period. Can you imagine Samurai vs predator?

Honestly, Michael's death makes no sense since he has shown to come back from death after Markus impaled him. So how can he die from having his throat cut? Also, how can he be captured by lesser Lycans who didn't even have his blood? Michael would be able to beat any Lycan or Vampire that came after him so Marius wouldn't have even been a challenge. Especially since he held his own against both Viktor and Markus and even killed William in the second movie. 🤷

It would be a prequel about Michael that takes place at the end of Awakening when he escaped and during Blood Wars to see how he got captured and show what he did after he gets killed and revived. Just so it could redeem the character and have a better ending with Selene and their daughter showing up at the very end.

Objectively these movies aren’t great but honestly I can’t get enough of them. They really nail the mood and the lore, and most of the actors do a great job. And Kate always brings her all. Between Underworld and Van Helsing, she really made her mark on the Vamp, horror action genre.
This series is one of my favorites, to be honest. I remember watching the first one when I was very young and wanting to be like Selene. :) As for a recommendation, I've recommended before The Affliction (really cool mockumentary take on vampires) and Byzantium.
Id almost forgot how much I loved this story. Please consider Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunte for a video. I've always loved the idea that vampires have different reactions depending on their origin. Keep it up.

Yeah, I was done after they killed off Michael. I love Selena character but Michael was something totally new to the Vampire films. He had so much potential. I always saw him as Micheal from the lost boys in adulthood.

There is so much lore in this franchise you could totally do a tv series or something - let's see Selene's early days as a death dealer - Why did Markus & Victor choose Amelia a the 3rd elder? When did Victor send Semira away and what did she do while away? There is a lot of room to play around with the lore and characters!
It’s a shame they didn’t put more focus and show more growth around Michael. This was the most unique concept about this franchise, a hybrid. Never done before. The problem is that the main character was Seline. Because she was such also an awesome character they had to keep the story centered around her. I know there were issues with Scott Speedman returning to play Micheal but they really should have figured out a way to keep his character relevant. It seemed like he just kept getting weaker after his first fight with Victor. A hybrid should have been much harder to deal with than what they gave us. Yeah, he had his moments but he was mostly on equal footing with the elders. It was a bit disappointing for such a unique concept. And Marcus didn’t really seem like much of a hybrid other than being able to move throughout the day. I just hate they dropped the ball on that concept.
I agree wholeheartedly with all of your points.They couldn't have Michael around because it would compromise Selene's perceived strength to the audience.U can't have your main character weaker than their partner.

I never understood why Victor didn't put a no-transformation collar on Lucian for the execution. He had one around his neck in almost every scene while he was still a slave, so him being in chains without one is really weird. It just seems like a huge oversight just for plot convenience.
It's a great video, and you are absolutely right, there was no need to go over all the details, as it would drag out the video and make us lose focus. This way it was perfectly done, it keeps you engaged and not one of the parts of the video was too long. It's more impactful because all the important details are there and Selene is the focus 100% of the time, without any digression. Love her, one of my favorite heroins ever!

To me personally, the Bride from Kill Bill and Selene are two of the most powerful female characters in the cinematic universe even blazing Wonder Woman and Black Widow.
I'm writing a story following the events of Blood Wars. Exploring "The Chain", "Valissa" (or the Sacred Word), lore about William and Marcus. Eve's newfound abilities and her role as a Corvinus. Selene's role as an Elder. Lycans' situation without a pack leader... I've got some good ideas, I don't want to spoil though.
I haven't finished it yet though... The title is Underworld:Becoming ("There's no beginning, no end, just becoming..." Selene's last words in Blood Wars. Also reflecting on her conversation with Alexander Corvinus before she drank his blood: Selene- What will I BECOME? Alexander- The Future... )
If they do decide to do another Underworld film they could orientate it around Eve. As we don't know what Selene's daughter has been up to since they went their seperate ways for Eve's protection.
Hands down may favorite vampire / werewolf movie of all time. Been a fan since day 1. I even imitate the Lycan sounds and growls during the UW's first movie - that's how I'm stoked about the movie! God I love this series!
I've been watching since the beginning, around '05..It took me years to realize that was actually Lucian's plan. Michael was not supposed to be the 1st hybrid..Lucian was.
She only used the long slide Beretta 92Fs in the first movie. Without just googling it I'd say they're auto-seared Walther P99's from then on, if she ever fired them full auto that is. I can't remember immediately but I think she went semi auto after the 1st one.
Loved the first two films. And when the 3rd came and said to be a prequel and I seen that Kate wasn't on it I didn't care for it. But I ended up watching and I loved the 3rd film it definitely is underrated imo. So the first three and even the last 2 are all enjoyable films to watch imo
Great video! Just watched Blood Wars for the first time yesterday, finally. It's incredible how this series has such a cult following when the movies have been so mired in production issues. I don't understand why Scott Speedman never returned (there were rumors he slept with Beckinsale when she was still married to Wiseman, but I dunno), why Eve didn't return in 5, after Awakening was the biggest box office in the series they cut the budget for the 5th movie in half, they kept ignoring stuff in 4 and 5, like in 5 the "purge" and the humans are a non-factor while all this is going on, etc. Always felt this series could be much more popular if they put more care into it, Selene / KB is one of the best action characters around.
Loved the series. I wish you'd shown the greatest opening scene in any movie, when Selene dropped off the cathedral and stepped out from the deep crouch like it was nothing.

I know you seen Lucian and the Werewolves together but the scene jumps between his face and theirs, never side by side. Seeing Lucian vs William would've been nice! I still strongly feel that the (UNDERWORLD) stories should be made into a show series. Now I think that with it made into a series, it could show each character life was like, and how much they have each change through the years. To add I imagine that the stories themselves might have a chance at being portrayed somewhat accurately in the show series. In addition I think that the storyline of the show series should begin with the Origin of how all the events had started; From the origin-story of how the first vampire came to be, to showing the origin of how the first werewolf came to be, along with showing the other story details of events, and then later show form beginning to later events of the day when werewolves slaves arises up against the vampires. Plus to add show in the series more detailed events that deserves to be shown of other situations that had happened.
Oh goodness, Kate Beckinsale made me question my sexuality in that role.. Those subtle vampire teeth looked so good on her along with that leather outfit. 😍

I think Lucien wanted to make himself a hybrid. Using Amelia's blood and Michael's, he was kill before he could.

She only used the long slide Beretta 92Fs in the first movie. Without just googling it I'd say they're auto-seared Walther P99's from then on, if she ever fired them full auto that is. I can't remember immediately but I think she went semi auto after the 1st one.

Loved the first two films. And when the 3rd came and said to be a prequel and I seen that Kate wasn't on it I didn't care for it. But I ended up watching and I loved the 3rd film it definitely is underrated imo. So the first three and even the last 2 are all enjoyable films to watch imo

Great video! Just watched Blood Wars for the first time yesterday, finally. It's incredible how this series has such a cult following when the movies have been so mired in production issues. I don't understand why Scott Speedman never returned (there were rumors he slept with Beckinsale when she was still married to Wiseman, but I dunno), why Eve didn't return in 5, after Awakening was the biggest box office in the series they cut the budget for the 5th movie in half, they kept ignoring stuff in 4 and 5, like in 5 the "purge" and the humans are a non-factor while all this is going on, etc. Always felt this series could be much more popular if they put more care into it, Selene / KB is one of the best action characters around.

I will always say that it would have been nice if they had made a Tv show after the movie "Rise of the lycans" they could have cover a lot of things, a lot of lore of this franchise, with the vampires and lycans, maybe focusing in Lucian as lead protagonist.

I wish they would've put a Lycan and Werewolf together at the exact same time side by side on screen. I know you seen Lucian and the Werewolves together but the scene jumps between his face and theirs, never side by side. Seeing Lucian vs William would've been nice! And you said if William wasn't checked he would've killed all humans and Vampires but what do you think would've happened to all the Lycans in the world?

They did the stupidest thing by killing off Michael!
I still strongly feel that the (UNDERWORLD) stories should be made into a show series.
Now I think that with it made into a series, it could show each character life was like, and how much they have each change through the years.
To add I imagine that the stories themselves might have a chance at being portrayed somewhat accurately in the show series.
In addition I think that the storyline of the show series should begin with the Origin of how all the events had started; From the origin-story of how the first vampire came to be, to showing the origin of how the first werewolf came to be, along with showing the other story details of events, and then later show form beginning to later events of the day when werewolves slaves arises up against the vampires.
Plus to add show in the series more detailed events that deserves to be shown of other situations that had happened.
