It always bugged me that they never acknowledged Khayman in the movie for the big deal he actually is. In the book, when Akasha is traveling the world and burning all the lesser vampires, her power sweeps across him and is unable to burn him. It's a very badass scene for a character that's pretty low key, even in the books. They also never acknowledge that it was Khayman that turned Maharet and Mekare into vampires, thus granting them their chance at revenge. After QotD, Khayman is the oldest vampire in the world.
@@derek96720 exactly, afterwards he is only second in power to Mekare (since she took Akasha into herself). But he truly is a badass, that I think they should have had a lot more of in the movie and for me in the books too.
This was done wonderfully!! I am an enormous Chronicles fan and your video here was really well done. PLEASE do one on just Akasha and that whole ancient situation.
The whole origins story of akasha is incredible, which is why the QOTD movie is so disappointing.. something that seems to be a big challenge is converting Anne’s work to the big screen, let’s hope AMC do the new series justices
Tom Cruise nailed that role to the wall Lestat is one of my top favorite characters in fantasy horror (?) literature. The cast of "Interview with the vampire" was a damn hit! I love that movie!
I can't imagine the actor playing Lestat in the new TV series doing a better job. The whole movie was being held up by Tom Cruise and his performance. Even with Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas, i can't imagine their performances being able to hold up without him. Especially Pitt's Louis. He needed Cruise to bounce off of otherwise i think it would have been very 2D and boring.
Well I think Tom Cruise was dedicated to the character as he actually read the novels and he immersed himself being Lestat. Pitt couldn’t read more than a chapter he found it boring but I did think he was pretty good at playing Louis.
Thanks for uploading this. You did an awesome job. Yes, I’d be interested in you doing a video about Akasha, or any of the other characters from this series of books. I’m so saddened by Anne Rice death.
So...I just saw an ad for a new Interview with the Vampire series, and just by what they showed on the ad I can see that they have completely changed story. Why do they feel the need to do things like this? It is an absolutely amazing story and there is enough there to fill up a series without changing every damn thing. If Anne was alive they NEVER would have gotten away with this!
I enjoyed the queen's viciousness in this movie but that's it. The movie changed and left sooo many things out. Marius was not La stat's maker, he was Armand's maker. Magnus was la stat's maker. The way they killed the queen was a lot more vicious in the book.
Yes ! I loved Being Human UK 😍. US version is ok though, but to me UK version is so much better (characters and stories...). And you which version did you prefer ?
Oh I loved the UK version. But I wish we'd have just one series where they don't portray vampires as essentially drug addicts when blood is their supposed only sustenance, ya know, it's their food. Why must they always be the bigger person and starve themselves? Just another take on it.
I've always been an Anne Rice fan since the 90's and when I finally read all of the vampire chronicles books it makes sense. They really turned down how crazy Akasha was from the books. She didn't want all humans dead she wanted Men dead. She hated them. I was also an Aaliyah fan since she started and was so excited to hear she was going to portray Akasha, then she died in 2001. The spirit Mael technically wasn't good or evil but he liked the taste of blood so Maharet and Maekre used him against Akasha but didn't know that she would die and the spirit would fuse with her.
Working on a video creating some parallels between sex/relationships & Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Have been looking for some more Lore content to brush up on, so I definitely appreciate this from you. You always kill the vampire content.
I liked both of these movies..but sad that we were unable to see more of Aaliyah's acting talent im sure she would went on to make more movies...Stake Land and Stake Land II were both pretty good Vampire movies. I think you will enjoy both
In the Queen of the Damned film there’s a end scene after Lestrat & Jessie walk away. Where Marius visits David the implication that he turns David and has a new companion. Or maybe they just have a lovely chat. I like to think either way their relationship is ambiguous platonic.
In the book Armand describes the vampires Lestat made as "the silent ones" to him, and Lestat agrees because Lestat can read every mind except for the minds of his vampire children. however the children can reach each other's mind. Marius can know where Lestat is because he is 2000 years old. The movie fucks it up. In the book is Marius who introduces those who must be kept to Lestat, and Akasha tells Lestat her name, Lestat feels afraid and terrified but then Marius talks to him and explains stuff about them and Marius offers Akasha blood to him, but warns him, Akasha's blood is the purest blood it will make you stronger and if you are like that and you are burned you will live like a husk for centuries it is going to be painful, so be sure that what you want is true immortality. The Talamaska observes all supernatural creatures, not just vampires.
I believe the Talamasca also appears in the Mayfair Witches. I thought the observed all supernatural activities not just vampires. However it's literally been a couple decades since I've read the books. Lol

Thank you for your excellent reviews of the books turned into movies . It made me want to watch them again. I've read all the books and enjoyed most of them. Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas were what you would like vampires to look like. Aliyah was great too. So very sad that she died before the movie was out. RIP to her and Anne Rice.
The Vampire Chronicles started me back reading for pleasure while in college......many moons ago....I read all of them.....and still have them on my book shelf. While I did enjoy both movies (Interview is one of my Favorite movies), the books are sooooooo AMAZING. To this day Queen of the Damned is probably my favorite book of ALL TIME! ❤
I love your channel, and I just wanted to share an interesting take on vampires from a Dutch book series that was never translated in English from the late 90's/early 2000s, the Valentina Hellebel books by the late author Eddy C. Bertin. It's age demographic is similar to R.L Stine's books and mixes Lovecraftian horror with folklore and witchcraft and bits of religious horror. The vampires of the story are the Delcruza family. Originally a human noble (aristocratic) family of Portuguese descent who were active in slave trade. Forced by a circumstances, they were forced to go back to Europe, buying a mansion in a village called Huyze Steenveld in 1859. However, this village was essentially cursed. The mansion they bought, was previously occupied by a wizard dabbling in the dark arts, Alphonsius Ghelai who had a background in astronomy and alchemy. To achieve immortality, he called upon the power of the comet that was linked to the astrological sign Scorpio, which is why the comet was given the name 'Ghelai Scorpio'. The comet was a cosmic force, a mother and her child. Her child fell down to earth and Alphonsius trapped it within the darkest form of magic, something called the Nightside. The Nightside are dimensions of pure evil, calling it 'hell' would be an understatement. He studied the cosmic child intently, and after realizing it needed blood to survive, started studying vampire legends. Only the child couldn't tolerate human blood, for the child wasn't human themselves. It thought it would starve, until Alphonsius sacrificed 15 people, one for each star in the Scorpio zodiac. He drank each of their blood, and having drank the blood of the child as well, transformed. Then, he started feeding the child his own blood and thus, a forced partnership was born. Alphonsius quickly grew tired of it, however. He didn't liked drinking blood, and made vampires out of his victims so the child could feed off of them instead. His immortality and power weren't his true desire, that was ultimate knowledge. In his search of it, he did started to understand things humans couldn't possibly fathom, but it also drove him insane. He committed suicide, but not before ordering his vampire slaves to make a magical machine that would keep the child trapped, for he hated the child after realizing he couldn't handle ultimate knowledge. His vampire slaves eventually left, and became the classical vampires as we know them. The Delcruza family, wasn't as lucky. Each of them were Scorpio, and you can only become a vampire if you're a Scorpio. Having no slaves to feed herself, the child turnt the family into her slaves (considering the Delcruzas were dealing in slave trade, one can say karma is a bitch). To lure in innocent victims, the Delcruza family are human by day. In their human forms, they have no memory of being vampires, being immortal or anything. The only way to get them to remember, is when they try to leave the village but they get sick the further they go. So they are doomed to go back and have their memories whiped. When night time approaches, they get sickly looking white spots on their faces, that seem to grow as darker as it gets outside, and seem to slowly become aware of their true nature. When its night, they vomit out all of their food, because they cannot process it. Their tongues grow, and resemble thick worms. Their eyes are generally white as well, as the Nightside's trademark colour is a sickly white and its territory can get a bit foggy (like Silent Hill). Whilst in this state they fully remember, but they do not feel remorse for their victims in their vampire state. In their human state, nearby the edges of town, they can be compassionate and try to get humans to escape before they become dinner. Their cruel nature as their vampire selves is likely the Nightside's influence, as it corrupts anyone, regardless of their nature as it also did with the child. They feast on anyone they can find, and when the Nightside's influence is at its strongest, the child manifests through Nightside servants called the Vampcats, who feed upon the vampires in return as the child still cannot consume human blood. The Vampcats, are as you can imagine, crossbreeds between a bat and a cat. Alphonsius, obsessed with the vampire myths, shaped the child's physical manifestation into a bat, but the child was actually fond of the cats walking around the village and wanted to take their shape instead, resulting into a crossbreed. By night, the Delcruza fear the Vampcats, and by day, they loathe them with their eldest, Nigel, hunting them often in his human state but he never managed to kill one. Because of the constant deaths, the village eventually grew abandoned, with the Delcruzas final contact with human society having seemingly ended around the 60s, as evidenced by Nigel being a huge Elvis Presley fan and not being aware he died decades ago as well as him and his little sister Paula wearing old fashioned jeans. Eventually, they are killed by the child when the comet was at the sky once again, and having tricked the heroine Valentina into the village, forced her to destroy Alphonsius' machine as the child is homesick and just wanted to go back to its mom. With their reunion came an end to the curse on the Huyze Steenveld village.

I had a fun time reading her books in high school however I did not read them in order due to having to search different libraries to find them lol. I think I'll read them again now.
Great film , Killer Soundtrack (definitely overplayed at parties) but so many missed opportunities in this movie (speaking as someone whos read the books quite a few times)
I believe you (and the movie) both glossed over the fact that Claudia was infected with plague when Lestat turned her into a vampire. She's angry that she doesn't get to age, but Lestat merely saved her from dying, and growing old was not an option for her. I enjoyed the video!
Aaliyah was perfect for this role. The only other interpretation I would've been interested in would have been Whitney Houston in 1991. However this film came out in 1998 in which Whitney was in no position physically or mentally to take on this role. Nonetheless great film and Aaliyah gave an incredible performance.
Heath Ledger would have been a very intriguing choice for Lestat, i was ruined for Lestat by Tom Cruise, by far the best Lestat! Heath would have definitely brought a new dimension to the charaster. RIP Heath!
That's strange because Anne Rice said that Tom Cruise did the best job of bringing Lestat to life on the camera. She said something like she couldn't imagine anyone doing it better because it was so damn close to what she imagined. She even took out pages in the New York Times to praise him and apologise for slating him when he was first cast for the role.
Me too, I think Stuart was perfect as an alluring vampire, if he wanted to, he can look dangerous, but for other humans he just look mysterious, desirable etc. For me Tom was just creepy, which was great for Interview, but he wouldn't be the the 'rock star'...
@@paigeconnelly4244 From what I remember, she was mad that they put two books together, but the truth is that they didn't have time or money to make two movies separately, the time for having rights to the story was ending and making just Vampire Lestat, when it's so connected to Queen Of the Damned would be like making half movie. Also Lestat in the Interview with the Vampire and Lestat in the Queen of the Damned (both books and movies) is not the same. In the 'Interview...' we get to know him thought Louis eyes, it's his story, so the way Lestat was portraited by Tom was great, he was creepy, murderous, he didn't really care about others, he only said he did and he didn't do anything that wasn't actually for his enjoyment. Lestat from the other movie and other books is not like that, he was a brat, but he wasn't the complete monster. He was more complicated and he actually had feelings. I wish he would get the complete story with all characters, but money and time won.

Wait! You read these books in jail? And you're still alive? Now, that is an accomplishment 👏
@@jonesy6116 hahaha, it was out mate was baby 💩 soft on there. I was just in my teens early 20s. Back when I couldn't be told shit.
From what I understand though. Guys read anything in there these days. Harry Potter is even high on the buy list according to books a million the online site that we had to buy from in York Co.
Song of ice and fire got through my jail bid
@@DMCdaJUICE funny how we all become connoisseurs of good literature, when we're forced to sit still.
Yessss this is one of my favorite series! Thank you so much for covering them. Queen of the Damned is definitely a guilty pleasure.
Khayman was the first fledgling of Akasha who sired Mekare, who then sired Maharet.
Hmmm I thought the first was Enkil her husband and king. Then Khayman
@@jazcc yes you're correct, but I don't think she thought it treated Enkil as such and as her equal. Enkil and Khayman were both the only that are first generations
@@somerandom2343 Ah yeah makes sense as he was the King
Ah Queen of the Damned, every goth teenager’s sexual awakening in the 2000s
yes lmfao
Absolutely
That tub scene...holyyyyy
I wouldn’t mind a video on the queen, her story is pretty interesting.
Agree!
Totally. Can't tell her story without maharet and Mekare though
Yes please.
Agree ! I’d love that .
You need not apologize for anything. You did an awesome job in this video. Yes, I would like an origin story of Arkasha.
You should also do a video on John Carpenter's Vampires.
Tom Cruise nailed that role to the wall
Lestat is one of my top favorite characters in fantasy horror (?) literature.
*SYMPATHY* for the Devil. Great video 🤘Thank you. (Definitely interested in a full Queen Akasha video)
Aaliyahs perfomance top notch no one gives her credit
Under what stone have you slept for the past 20 years ?
Everyone that talks about this movie states that she was awesome and what talent she had !
@@_SatanLucifer_ I’m only 18 soo…
Literally everyone who has seen the movie gives her credit. Speaking out of ignorance is embarrassing. Stop it
Santiago is Stephen Rea, he also played Jacob in Underworld:Awakening
I enjoyed the queen's viciousness in this movie but that's it.
The movie changed and left sooo many things out. Marius was not La stat's maker, he was Armand's maker. Magnus was la stat's maker. The way they killed the queen was a lot more vicious in the book.
It will be amazing to see them all as a movie from the beginning
You should cover the Vampires in Being Human, both the UK and US versions.
9:50 it was always heart breaking how skittish and afraid Lestat was at this reunion. the way he flinches thinking Louis came back to finish him off.
Interview with the Vampire is one of my favorite movies
Interview was just sooo good. It was a hard task for the damned to step up to that level
The 90’s and early 2000’s were such a vibe.
Working on a video creating some parallels between sex/relationships & Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. Have been looking for some more Lore content to brush up on, so I definitely appreciate this from you. You always kill the vampire content.
The movie not only had amazing acting and visuals, but the music is spawned was also top tier.
I liked both of these movies..but sad that we were unable to see more of Aaliyah's acting talent im sure she would went on to make more movies...Stake Land and Stake Land II were both pretty good Vampire movies. I think you will enjoy both
Look up Romeo must die you would luv it
@@wildyolo1290 Saw it and you're right it was pretty good for a 2000 movie
In the Queen of the Damned film there’s a end scene after Lestrat & Jessie walk away. Where Marius visits David the implication that he turns David and has a new companion. Or maybe they just have a lovely chat. I like to think either way their relationship is ambiguous platonic.
I love both of these movies, best vampire lore used in popular media, no daylight resistance, hunger for blood, and just dark and depressing
The soundtrack to this day is one of my favorite albums
Queen of the damned book gives so much background. Great video thanks for making!
One thing I thought was interesting when he met Marius again he asked how he lived through a certain time. In red velvet
Lol
I LOVE the style of clothes they wear. ..
ill give the outfit department high marks for their clothing choices.
to this day THAT shirt Lastat wore during the concert i stil want to
know where i could get one similar to that ;)
Thank you for your excellent reviews of the books turned into movies . It made me want to watch them again. I've read all the books and enjoyed most of them. Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas were what you would like vampires to look like. Aliyah was great too. So very sad that she died before the movie was out.
RIP to her and Anne Rice.
She died before they finished so they used what they had she was supposed to have more scenes
@@blackqueen7226 also her brother had to come in and do some of the vocals for her scenes which is why it was able to have that sound
They should have made a interview with Lestat from the same interview guy with the reporter recording him as a movie
I’d be very interested to see your take on the “Interview with the Vampire” tv series now that it’s two seasons in!
Anne Rice was and always will be a LEGEND. QOTD and IWAV are still two of my favorite movies ever.
She played the queen beautifully I also love that it seems that if you drink enough or are strong enough the sun can’t hurt you
Yes more on these books please. Definitely the queens backstory
You a real one for honoring the late Heath Ledger. The man was one hell of an actor 😢🖤
Interesting concept on Vampirism
I love the longer format that your videos are! I get why you want to make them shorter for the casual viewer but the long recaps are stuff I love to listen to while on long walk, so please don’t take them away. Also I think this was one of your best videos yet!
We would love a full video of just the queen of the damned! Please!
Queen of the Damned one of the best but most underrated vampire movies ever great video
Thank you for the great videos as always cogan
YEEEESSSS we need a video of the queens origins !!!!
I loved both movies, and i hope they do movies on all her books, would be awesome!
100% would love a video on the history of Akasha! 🩸
Queen of the Damned would have been 10x better had Aaliyah never died.
me personally Queen Of The Damned movie is like Interview with the Vampire meets Blade
or a combination of both interview with the Vampire and Blade
Been waiting for this one. Def want to see more on Akasha
I aspire to one day write supernatural lore interesting enough for you to make a video on it haha! Great video as always! Always love learning new lore from other franchises :)
She is a very interesting character, I would love to see a video on her.
Great job. I have read mist of her books and some more than a few times. Her vampire lore is the most fleshed out than any other I've read or watched. I had a fun time reading her books in high school however I did not read them in order due to having to search different libraries to find them lol. I think I'll read them again now.
“antonio banderas from spy kids” how american can you be
Would you prefer Desperado?
Lol right?
@noid1978 duh

Can you make a video about Vampires vs the Bronx?
This series changed my life - def top 3 all time for me
Great film , Killer Soundtrack (definitely overplayed at parties) but so many missed opportunities in this movie (speaking as someone whos read the books quite a few times)
lestats entrance to the mortal world in the queen of the damned was spine chilling.love the voice
The Santiago death fight was epic
I discovered this channel few days ago I love it I watched all the videos please do more
You need to do true blood what a series, brilliant and the gore was great the way the vamps just explode when staked a must watch.
I believe you (and the movie) both glossed over the fact that Claudia was infected with plague when Lestat turned her into a vampire. She's angry that she doesn't get to age, but Lestat merely saved her from dying, and growing old was not an option for her. I enjoyed the video!
Claudia being afflicted with plague, before being bitten, is shown in the film.
Is there a breakdown of the underlying Anne Rice cosmology and ancient characters?
The vampires from "The Originals" tv show.
Lestat's unofficial title amongst vampires that know him is "The Brat Prince"
Aaliyah was perfect for this role. The only other interpretation I would've been interested in would have been Whitney Houston in 1991. However this film came out in 1998 in which Whitney was in no position physically or mentally to take on this role. Nonetheless great film and Aaliyah gave an incredible performance.
Akasha in the book was whiter than white
Thanks again for this One! Haven't seen It Yet; Put plan to!
Heath Ledger would have been a very intriguing choice for Lestat, i was ruined for Lestat by Tom Cruise, by far the best Lestat! Heath would have definitely brought a new dimension to the charaster. RIP Heath!
TY! Great videos!! I love both films. Ive seen QOTD so many times. Love the music as well!
I find Lestat in queen of the damned much closer to Lestat from the books.
Definitely would love a full vid on the queen!!❤️
This made me interested in the books for sure
I love the performance of Stuart Townsend I would love to see the background on how he met Jessie
Do the vampire from salem lot and american horror story hotel
I love how you called out AMC for making a series well before they did you have earned my sub 😂❤️

And then do the vampire in lesbian vampire killers
I love both of these movies ty for covering them!
