    The tight chain to the flapper of the toilet is a pretty tricky issue because it would have always leaked from the time of install. Visually it would look as though the flapper is closed and it is nearly an impossibility that the chain could over tighten itself and cause a problem. It is much more likely the flapper needs to be changed and it is extremely inexpensive.

      +Tyler Pearson I actually clicked on this video kind of expecting to see something like this. It's extremely common. I used to do plumbing work with my friend and his grandpa, we pissed in potted plants, sinks, you name it. We were told that it's rude to ask to use their bathroom. Lol. Like it's not rude to piss in their plants and sinks. Eh. We were kids. Didn't understand. Still not entirely sure why he refused to use their bathrooms.

    • @helenkruse
      @helenkruse 8 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      you said If a repairman asked to use my bathroom, they are welcome. Then again, I live in the country so there are plenty of trees out there.haha My late Husband was a brickmason who subbed work. We did residential and commercial. So many weeks I would drop the bills off and pick the checks up at the builders and they had memo's attached. The memo was concerning the use of the new bath tubs, sinks and toilets being used way before the water was turned on to the homes. These were in brand new subdivisions where they could urinate on any tree. Any crew caught using the fixtures were fired. My late Husband told his crew, you piss in the tub, or anywhere in the house, you piss your job with him away. He fired two guys for urinating in the tub. These were brand new homes. When the brick is going up, the sheetrock isn't even finished on the interior. So this happens all over. They are pigs, plain and simple. Pigs with no respect for themselves, their jobs or for anyone else.

    • @YodaWasSith
      @YodaWasSith 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Helen Kruse Yeah, I did electrician work with a guy who taught me way more respect than the plumber did. If I hadn't broken my femur, I'd probably still be doing that work.

    • @helenkruse
      @helenkruse 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      you said I am sorry to hear about your injury. Some people are just naturally pigs and have no respect. They do this to others, and treat people like trash in other ways and think it's funny,yet when it is done to them, they go beserk. Like the old saying goes, "You can dish it out, but you can't take it" fits those type to a tee. Hope you aren't still down with your injury and if so, get well soon,if not,either way, I wish you the best in all you have to do and all that is here and now and things to come.

    • @htomerif
      @htomerif 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      ***** And actually, most of those guys tried to replace the flapper. That usually is what goes bad, *especially* on older toilets. The rubber gets oxidized and hard and warps to the point where gets stuck moving up and down or won't make a seal.
      For that matter, with the faucet, they don't just come unscrewed on their own.
      Notice that the only problem that does actually happen, the dish washer drain line getting plugged, was correctly diagnosed by all of them (if I remember).

      @chriss8825 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +Holder Bee The only thing that causes the chain to get tight like that is if someone does it. Toilet chains do not magically get tight, so it's not something the plumbers would assume is wrong. I see that as an honest mistake. One person even suspected something was up and fixed it for a $13 part, I doubt the profit margins on a $13 part is high enough to pull something when you are suspicious.

    To be fair 90% of the time a toilet is running like that it needs a new flapper valve. No one would expect someone to tighten the chain nefariously.

    I understand the idea of a repairman replacing the toilet parts even if they may not be required. I also understand the recommendation of a newer, more water-efficient toilet. If you show up and do anything, a completely different problem days or weeks later becomes your fault because you were the last to touch it.
    I installed a tile kitchen countertop in a home and was called back days later on a Sunday night because the phones were not working. The problem was that lightning fried the computer modem, but in the mind of the homeowner since I had removed the telephone jack when tiling the kitchen backsplash, the phone problem was caused by something I did.

      @@gbs1548 I felt that way with a couple of them, Just because 1 person who made the fault knows exactly what the fault is doesn't mean its the first thing another man checks If you really are only going for the small parts that look like they're causing the issue you can't exactly say they are scamming them, The guys like the garage guys who seen the sensors and realigned them as well as then changing the circuit board is fair enough, Or the guy who said you need a whole new tap or toilet, Those are the scammers but you can't put every one of these in the same boat, Some just overlooked the issue. The chain one really gets me as if someone called you out and the toilet was always working but then all of a sudden is continued to flush, You wouldn't think oh the chain has been re-adjusted, Why would you? You would physically have to do that and why would they need a repairman if that was the case

    As a contractor in business for over 35 years, I want to address an issue: many homeowners don't want to let a repairman use their toilet. Most employed people have access to a bathroom; most contractors do not have a portable bathroom traveling with them. Contractors are no different than anyone else; sometimes we need to use the toilet. How many of you reading this have been told by an employer that you can't use the company bathroom? How many of you have been told to leave your place of work and go find a gas station? Would you expect to work somewhere for over eight hours and not be told you could use the bathroom if needed? I won't even mention the homeowners who never think to offer even water to a contractor sweating away in their home. I won't mention the homeowners who think it's fine for their dogs to jump all over you as you're trying to work, or who make an issue out of moving their cars out of the driveway for safety. For every problem contractor there's a problem homeowner. Any homeowner who makes an issue out of a simple request to use the toilet will never see me again.

      Most likely because national chains have many sources of income from various locations and use their brand as a ‘verification’ that they know what they’re talking about. Plus, they can afford to lose a customer here or two over large charges.
      Local owned business can’t afford to lie, deceive, or push faulty product because they’ll go out of business fast.
      If a single location of a huge chain goes down In flames, sure; the higher ups lose some money but they don’t untimely go out of business. Unlike family/local owned business.

      Yeah, that whole test bothered me. It's something that can only happen intentionally. A smart and honest repairman would look for problems caused by a natural failure, not an intentional sabotage. The most common reason for a leak in that place would be a rubber gasket which naturally fails over time. To stop and consider that someone changed the length of the chain intentionally before trying to fix the cause of 99.99% of failures of that type would be unnecessary.
      It's like if a car stops running properly. You don't say, "well let's start by checking to see if someone changed the software on the engine management controller." No, you would look for things that break, not things that could only occur from intentional and educated sabotage.
