Any idea how I can get DD know that the app is not allowing to work my home town and surrounding area including six other towns and villages??? The Phillipino outsource team and supervisors are inept, ignorant, and unequipped to help even though it's a known issue involving other dashers. Anyone have a workaround as I've tried all the troubleshooting tips and the problem is on the programming side?

Wow, after almost 8K deliveries, I just had something happen for the 1st time. A customer chose "hand it to me" in the app but in the comments typed "leave it at the door". So I left it at the door, but still took a photo of it. Later found out the customer lied and reported it as "undelivered" even though he had exited his house and grabbed it. I had plenty of photo evidence along with a good explanation and Doordash did not penalize me in any way. Customers who abuse the system in this way should also be deactivated and not allowed to order anymore! Some people are such slimeballs.

Wow. I guess it's more common than I thought. Since the in-app photo step doesn't pop up when someone chooses "hand it to customer", I'm going to advise to take a photo of it with your phone and keep it in your camera roll for a while in case you have to send it to Doordash, which is what I did. And to their credit, the 3 times I've dealt with customer discrepancies via email, Doordash has been extremely reasonable and helpful to me. I'm sure having 8,000+ deliveries with sky-high stats helps with that also.

You are 100% right about not needlessly communicating with customers. I would say 95%+ use the app specifically because they want as little human interaction possible to get their food. Especially the 30 and under age range. I am a delivery ninja, a ghost in the machine. I wont contact a customer unless I absolutely cannot find their residence and that is super rare in my market. I know some dashers think sending updates and even memes is being nice and "customer service", but DD customers dont want all those needless alerts. They want their food, not a jolly chat. I've done 7,300 deliveries in the last 2 and a half years, and what I've come to realize is that the business is drastically different when comparing urban/metro areas to the suburbs. Variations in population and order density requires that you change your strategy based on where you are. Advice you hear may be from someone who does it in a different type of area, so don't be surprised if you don't get the same results.

I've done a few orders that have taken me far out of my zone, especially on the occasion that I get a $20+ order. I've also got some good-paying orders especially when DoorDash runs promotions in the suburbs; normally suburbs involve more driving, although drop-off is easier compared to the greater probability of dealing with apartments, condos, and hotels in the central city.

In some places, it is absolutely worth it to be a top dasher. It really depends on your market and if you are constantly thrown bad orders. I make about $150 a day 7 days a week with just doordash. I do lunch from 9:30am to 11:30am and then I go out for dinner from 5:30pm to 11:30pm. Sometimes I hit my $150 mark a lot sooner and head home earlier, but that is usually the average. I do notice a difference with the top dasher, it is better here for sure. But that is not the case everywhere. The best thing you can do to make the most money with Doordash or uber or whatever is to keep trying different things and accept that it will not be steady all of the time but by the end of the week/month it will balance out pretty much every time.

I’ve dashed for a total of 4 hours 30 minutes and got 110 so far. Definitely because I was on the “accept every order” flow and because I thought top dasher gives you perks (only need 70% to stay a top dasher) but now I’m going to only accept good orders. Thought this to myself today after I handed off a chipotle delivery to this rude customer who didn’t tip me and I only made 5 bucks off the 3 mile drive… seriously I get it that times are tough and people have less disposable income to spend but come on…… you wouldn’t not tip at a dine in restaurant why wouldn’t you tip the guy who went out of his way to deliver the food to you…. On the other hand, I got a 14 dollar delivery with a 9.50 tip which was definitely nice.
For anyone wondering I’m in Jersey - the average hourly drive pay is $25-$26 an hour. I literally live right around the corner from a busy highway with every single restaurant fast food and otherwise. Why wouldn’t I dash? i've seen that ppl who want to communicate are just needy and give more tasks and don't give any more money than what the offer originally said. i'd rather just just pick up the food and deliver it and not do "customer service". if the customer has special requests, they should include them in "special requests" for the restaurant when they place their order in the app. if the restaurant doesn't offer "special requests" in the app then they should just pick a diff restaurant or do without whatever their special request is... as someone who orders food from dd a lot, if i have a special request and restaurant doesnt allow in the app to provide additional requests, i don't order from that restaurant using dd. and i've been doing this before i ever started dashing bc it just seemed like the right move to me bc trying to give extra tasks to the dasher when the dasher's job is just to pick up and deliver didn't seem right to me. special requests should be between the restaurant and the customer, not the person delivering the food

I have been turning down offers which amount to $1/mile or less, and for the most part most of the orders that roll in are between $5 and $8. I have been using the 'distance is too far' as the reason for declining, as I'm trying to get the app to stop giving me extraordinarily long delivery orders. Based on your advice, I'll start using the small order for the small orders. I seem to be averaging about $20-23/hr so far so perhaps I'm not doing too horribly.

Biggest tip - get to Platinum as fast as possible. Accept almost every order until you do. Smaller is better. The only orders you want to decline are those which take you well out of your zone, unless it's to a better zone that's busy. Once you're Platinum status, make sure you stay there. You won't see that many orders at $2/mile. $1+/mile is my benchmark, but that varies according to how busy it is. You won't get rich doing this, but it helps to get by in a pinch.

BIGGEST thing for my girlfriend and I has and will probably continue to be establishing a relationship with the stores in your zone. Know which stores have crew, don't have crew, which crews are efficient, which crews are inefficient, etc... like you mention... though, I'd stress this is THE most important thing
We used to go to 15-20 different stores per shift...now we probably bounce between 7-10 at most. Started around 15-18/hr in Ohio, we are up to 22-25/hr. Shit can still hit the fan, and doing things like taking chances on the night shift can sometimes mean 2/1's all night at taco bell, or sitting for 20 minutes to get a single order at the same taco bell. All depends on your zone and understanding the eb-n-flow.

In big, dense cities, people there often like the interaction. On Uber Eats, my lowest ranked stat is "communication". At least for people staying in hotels, and if the food has to be left in the lobby, the people being from out of town appreciate a heads up text. Just one example.
If delivering to a mansion, like in the San Francisco Seacliff or Pacific Heights, that's when a text or call will not benefit much in way of getting a tip or good feedback, as the customer is more likely to want to remain anonymous for safety reasons or whatever, who knows.

If customer is not there for hand off you will have to wait 5 minutes before Doordash will allow you leave it at the door. You just lost $3 waiting that 5 minites. When you arrive go ahead and hit the "cannot hand to customer" button to start the 5 minute timer.

I'm currently doing DoorDash and UberEats simultaneously. It's been alright so far, but I have two problems that I need to work out that are keeping me from making the most money I can.
My first problem is taking good dollar per mile orders but having them take me way out of the hot zones (near restaurants), and end up wasting way more gas then I would have if I just waited for an order that stayed within the area. Which wasting gas is kind of serious when you're doing it in a V8 that only gets 17 MPG city. Yes, I use my Mustang as a delivery car. Hate me later. It's the only car I have, and getting even a "cheap beater" ain't cheap these days with inflation. So I'm working with what I got. Anyways... I get kind of scared that if I don't accept a $10 - $15 order another one isn't going to come for a while. So if it's above $1.50 per mile, I'll usually go for it. Just need to get out of that habit, go where there's more restaurants, and take some of the lower paying orders if it means staying in a hot area that's going to keep producing orders.
And my second problem is customer and support communication. If there's traffic, if a restaurant is slow, if directions got messed up, or if I mess something up I tend to be bad about contacting the costumer and letting them know exactly what's happening. I try to let everyone know the ETA and often times apologize if I'm running late, but tend to focus more on just getting to them as quickly as possible without updating on WHY it took an extra 10-15 minutes to get them their order. This is especially important on UberEats, because customers can CHANGE A TIP up to AN HOUR AFTER delivery!
Now even worse then that, because this one got me a contract violation on DoorDash, I am really bad about letting customer support know WHY I'm running late or really if anything happened at all. I guess it's my selfish and arrogant nature of wanting to do it on my own, but it's very important to let them know when something goes wrong, because it can cost you your job if you don't. Being late by 20 minutes without letting anyone know why is serious grounds for a contract violations that COULD lead to deactivation. I'm learning this the hard way.
Hopefully I can work these things out and start making decent money doing this. Because there is really NO GOOD WORK IN NASHVILLE, unless you've got a degree in tech or medicine. Which is seriously sad. The lack of opportunity out here is absurd, and I don't understand why everyone is moving here.

Sadly about the miles taking you out of the zone.. and the customers being difficult. It's all about where you live. That is it. I've traveled the country doing this. Every place is different. Every state, every city. Rich people tip more and never complain. Only poor people bitch about food. Only poor people get upset. Rich people don't care. They don't have anxiety about every dollar and every minute.

unless the order is over like 100 bucks and it's looking like it'll be a good tip don't ever wait at a restaurant more than 5-10 minutes, just unassign yourself from the order. if you walk into a chipotle or something and there are more than 2-3 drivers standing by the pickup rack waiting just turn right back around and leave, you'll get another order soon enough that might even be better than whatever that one was. as long as your completion rate doesn't go below 80 you're fine. you don't get paid to wait, so don't do it unless you know it's going to be worth it. between doing this and delivering pizza for many years I've learned that most customers don't actually pay attention to the time it's taking and have no idea if something is late until you tell them, so I just don't

Communication is always the key to success so having that with a customer is always the right route to go which you learn in customer service and retail that I learned in 15 yrs and it still applies whenever I do Uber/Uber eats. Door dash is new to me where I’m still learning the ropes from watching your videos about it but no disrespect, it’s good to have communication with your customers regarding their food and any type of situation you’re having with the order by being at the restaurant where it might not be ready, just getting started, etc. remember that. Plus you get good tips and somewhat rewards on your app by being somewhat of the peoples champion by your Reputation.

Also ask the customer in text, if they want anything else. A lot of times they’ll pay you under the table for a six pack or whatever. Cause they’re jet lagged or just exhausted. However, tax time for independent contractors seems scary - I've seen multiple sources say that it's best to put aside 30% of your earnings for taxes. Well only you can know that bc only you can decide how much is worth it to you. Do it for a little bit, see what you make, estimate 30% of that going away, then ask is it worth it for you. And for whatever it’s worth, if you do doordash you’re an independent contractor aka self employed aka you’re operating your own business which means you can look into diff ways to save on taxes. Lots of tax professions will offer a free initial consultation too so you should be able to find some to talk to for free and learn more about it. In my area even in the busiest times if I decline three to four crap orders or low paying / small orders,
Then they will not send me anymore for like 30 to 40 minutes or they'll automatically put me on a 34 minute break...So to say that you don't accept any orders under $9 is not realistic at least not for my area.. I only do it part-time 2 to 3 days a week and it took me a full month to make $300 ,, so anyone that's watching this video needs to understand there are factors that you have to take into consideration
And honestly I have stopped doordashing for a while because it just wasn't benefiting me and I felt like I was using more resources and funds that I should have been.. overall I feel like doordash and the customers at least in my area are getting over and take major advantage over the drivers ~just my 2cents

I wouldn't recommend starting out worrying about how much you're making per hour. Learn from your experience and tailor your strategy based on where you are. Now I don't have much time to door dash as much, but even just making a hundred or two hundred from a night of driving is useful but without more time driving the numbers would be difficult to multiply. For now it helps pay for gas, food, minor bills, minor savings, etc. I guess like most markets some places will be able to make more using door dash while others will make less. Economic ebs and flows are variable throughout all market systems, as is compensation for various lines of work. I live near madison wisconsin. I just started door dashing a week ago. My first two nights, i made 200. The next two nights, i made 130. Its not terrible, but youre right. I was rushing, thinking every order counts. I have a 93% acceptance rate, thought every order mattered. I have a gas guzzling suv too, so every engine rev matters.
I think this will help me survive outside of work in my free time if i play it right.

Honestly everyone has there own opinion and experience. But for me when he says acceptance rate doesn't matter it does. I worked for DD for about 2 years or so and my acceptance rate dropped because there were small orders that I did not want to take. I declined them and at the same time my phone and the app was glitching like crazy. That sent me an email one day and they basically fired me because they said that my acceptance rate was low.

Ayy I’m sub #100 congrats 😁 $2/mile sounds like a done deal to me. I’m tired of damaging my car and all my profits going to gas costs

sub #100 lessgooo! yea try to make $2/mi a minimum and use decline: order to small. where you're dashing matters how well that will work for ya but if you're in a busy doordash area it should work!

Talking about slow stores- as a customer I have a Taco Bell nearby that I won't order from at night because of how slow it is. I feel bad for sending Dashers there, I've been there on my own and gotten stuck in their drive-thru for over 30 minutes (not kidding, if I had a larger vehicle I would have jumped the curb to leave, but I don't so I was trapped). I will not go to or order from that restaurant after a certain time. During the day, they're totally fine.
