    Greatly Appreciate your help (1 week dasher here...). One thing, at least for a vehicle owner, since a dasher is an independent contractor --- keep a mileage log. Can take mileage reimbursement from the IRS when you do your taxes. Again, really great content and helpful!!!

      Doordash will actually send you a mileage report for the previous year. I think I got my last year report around the end of February. Was super cool of them😁

    • @scottcameron924

      @warrencadle2102 doordash only includes your mileage for time spent travelling to and from locations. It doesn't include the time you drove home or to another location in which still counts as business costs and will end up overlooked if you don't track it yourself

    • @P-Rob-LuvGod
      @P-Rob-LuvGod หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@scottcameron924you’re right, same with Insta Cart. Only miles from store to drop house, not even drive back. Don’t be lazy, keep a log! 60 cents a mile adds up fast. I did a total not worth it 20 mile delivery once but that adds up to 12 bucks

  • @vct454

    This applies more to people in suburban/rural markets but I think it's also important to remember that not all miles are the same. I have a stretch of highway near one of my restaurant pockets and I'll take longer mileage orders if it's going up the highway, because I can knock out a 5 mile order in like 10 minutes. But if I go the other way through town with a bunch of traffic lights then 5 miles can be 20 minutes just getting there.

    • @BestDasherAlive

      Very true. Not all miles are the same

    • @oliferous
      @oliferous ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100% Time of day is a HUGE factor too, that 4.5 miles might take 20 minutes at 9pm(no traffic) but double that at 5:30pm, BIG difference! Seattle really sucks for that! "Diamond" orders are usually laughable during traffic time.

    • @BestDasherAlive
      @BestDasherAlive  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True. Rush hour/when school gets out can make certain routes much longer

    • @vct454
      @vct454 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@oliferous Absolutely, I actually sometimes take a break during the 5-6 pm rush hour because traffic is horrendous at that time, that time is oversaturated with too many dashers so I don't always get many worthwhile orders, plus every restaurant is busy and you're almost guaranteed to be waiting at the restaurant around that time. I usually start getting my best orders around 7 pm because people start ordering pizzas and they usually tip well for short mileage.

    6:34 - Important to note that sometimes the app un pauses you a few seconds after delivery. It has happened to me a few times. Just something to monitor in case it happens, but I do agreeing on pausing if you're too far away. No one wants to continuously get pushed away out of the zones they want to work in.

  • @Lewkis01
    @Lewkis01 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I honestly never thought of pausing my orders after delivery if the drop off is outside my pickup zone. It would definitely help not getting orders I know I won't take on the way back.
    When it comes to using the "Order still being prepared" etc options when you get to stores, the most useful aspect of it is protecting your Dasher rating if a customer gives you a low score because you were late. If this happens and you selected one of the options about waiting at the store, DD will negate that rating.
    I would also like to add, it's important to know when your zone is busy. Some places, only one or two prime times are actually busy (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Trying to dash during lunch when the town you're in is much more dinner-heavy would only be a waste of time. It's important to match your zone to its busy times. I live in a rural area, lots of small towns scattered around, so it's good to know the options and optimize the time.

    I've tested all the programs and I agree with pretty much everything you said. A few things to add:
    1) the most important factor to how well you will do is your market. No strategy will help you in an oversaturated, bad market.
    2) if you look at your stats no matter what week I almost always average $9-$11 a delivery. This would indicate getting orders delivered quicker and just constantly being busy will smooth the variance of good/bad offers sent by the algorithm with enough volume.
    3) the end goal of DD is to make it acceptance rate matter. They don't want people cherry picking good offers as they need those offers to "average" out the bad ones to get an hourly rate that's acceptable to drivers. Hence the stacking offers we are seeing more and more of.

      Another important note… keep track of all your miles, car expenses even insurance. To my understanding, come tax time, it is about 60 cents per mile. The other drivers apparently would just do it. I refused. The after about 3-4 times of me refusing, the manager yelled in my face so i just calmly walked out and reported a saftey issue. I was not about to fight or get upset in any way over a drink. The manager then called my company and tried to get me fired, but the company turned off their tablet for deliveries until they agreed to train their employees that we are not to handle food.
      I miss being an employee and working for that company. I should have never stopped and moved. I'm thankful for the opportunity to doordash now, but I made much better money back then compared to doordash. Probably double.

    Dude... here in Dothan Alabama you can bust your butt, running all day and make maybe $50. Alabama has no minimum wage which is only a thing to help companies keep wages extremely low... that puts it in everyone's head that $8 per hour is livable, "good" money and people tip here using that fed $7.35 per hour as a baseline. Not only that but companies like Door Dash and Uber Eats base pay using that. The new "hourly" pay never goes higher than $13-$14; and being a smaller town you run long distances for deliveries. I got a delivery yesterday that had me in town traffic for 10 minutes..had to wait at the store for the food, then run 7 miles out of town to delivery then all the way back to "hot spot " and it only paid $5.50 plus customer didn't tip extra. This is the $h-it that we have here.... any tips for this area other than starve? I'd LOVE to hear some... I'll wait.

    Man. This video came up in the algorithm and this was insane watching this. I drive fulltime and I used to be a really big cherry picker. I still do, but over time I've seen some changes on DoorDash. Originally when I first started it was just a fucking joke on this app to make money compared to others in my market. I unfortunately do believe that DoorDash has gotten more market share where I am, but I've had a theory for a while now that all of the apps now just send you more orders the more you accept.
    I talk with other drivers in my zone and they're all on the catering list and it's always feast or famine with them. I remember one day this guy told me he made $103 in like 14 hours. Then come weekends he'll sit here and tell me about how he got all these high paying orders and makes like $350 in a day (this is kinda insane for my market most drivers average about $150 in 8 hours I feel is pretty common since all zones are different and I have talked with multiple drivers and we all end up at this mark seemingly so there is a consistency here.)
    I remember going for Top Dasher and it did make a difference. I was getting prioritized some orders while sitting with that dude even though my stats are slightly worse except for AR. I really started noticing that when the diamond program rolled around that I really sat here one day and was like "you know what I feel like this app is more fair now." I noticed literally allll of the things you said in this video. Felt like I was listening to myself lol.
    ESPECIALLY that stacked order thing. I never see stacked orders on DoorDash really anymore, but I will usually see one if I am sitting at a restaurant or on the way to one. I defnitely have noticed that whole telling DD what's going on thing does sometimes yeah send you orders have noticed that too. I haven't really tested it much, but I did kind of notice that taking small orders out of the zone I feel like more often than not I actually did get an offer or a bigger offer even at that coming back.
    Matter of fact I can distinctly remember one night I finally gave DD a chance and sure it wasn't always like this, but I took an order going out of the zone I want to say maybe like.. $10 for 8 miles or something maybe less pay idk I was testing the theory, and then after I was finished with that order I immediately got a $6.25 offer from this sushi place I never picked up from going like 3 miles in the direction of where I usually go. I just said "sure why not" and it ended up being $17.25. I was kind of blown away in that moment. Got like another $15 right after when I got back to my zone going 5 miles I think. That same night I took like a taco bell order I think it was $9.25 or something going 5 miles. Not great but it was slow and it wasn't bad either though. Just a meh order, but then right as I was on the way they had ordered again from like 711 I think it was an additional $5 on top of it. When you order through the app too it gives you like a 5 minute window to order from somewhere else and it'll send that same order to the driver who already has your first order. If that driver for whatever reason declines it then I guess it gets sent to another driver.
    I'm not gonna like sit here and simp for DoorDash either though because just today I got sent like a $3.25 order for 17 miles which is just stupid, but I also think that too many drivers fearmonger too and think DoorDash is out here to get them. DoorDash isn't stupid they're a really smart company, and they know that if drivers aren't happy they're not going to be delivering orders. I think they're at least trying to be more fair. Especially with the new tier system rolling around it'll really be interesting to see how things are in the future for sure.
    Anyways yeah great video this has really just kind of validated my thought process as well that someone else has noticed this!

    I just started doing it because i was tanking AR way too hard if i didn't, some areas i would rather just leave to the locals, app will start repeatedly taking me way too far one direction out of zone if I don't do anything about it. You have to treat DD like you are a business and not like you are an employee. I have had no issues keeping my AR 70-80%, but I also don't have a flat rule against non-tippers because I know it will break me before I break society. If DD gives me 4 dollars to pick up from a nearby place and will only have to go a few blocks to drop it off, I will pick it up, assuming the place is a store I need to know is slow as fk to make orders. I know I lose money on any order below a dollar per mile, so that is my only always, so there is no rule. I also have an MBA and know that there are two factors you need to consider, mileage and time. If you cherry-pick and get one excellent order in an hour but turn down what could have been two to three good orders because they were not high enough, you could be losing money cherry-picking because of opportunity cost. You are best served by looking for a more situational evaluation because the one thing you want to avoid is downtime. If you do a 10-hour dash and make the same money you would be making working at a decent service job for 10 hours, you are actually losing money. Why? Because you are paying for gas, car depreciation, and payroll tax since this is paid by the business. If you can get a 15-an-hour job in your area but are dashing and not making 20 an hour, you are losing money with your plan because you would have been better off at the job. So please go evaluate your rules because if they are not landing you 25% more an hour than you would get working a job, you are losing money. I have over 1400 deliveries so far, so I have gotten good at perfecting my rules, and no rule is perfect for every area. But know, no tip, no trip, can fk you if DD will pay you a decent payout to pick it up, as it hurts your AR and keeps you on downtime, which is an opportunity cost factor.

    I have 100% completion rate. 89% acceptance. 5 star rating. Yet I get trash orders. How do I fix it?? I have made so many calls to see why this is happening. But nothing works. Literally on verge of quitting. It’s my main hustle tho. Please reply! I cant decline the bad ones to keep acceptance good. And accepting bad ones only lead me to have nothing in the end. I only got 2 orders out of 247 life time delivery over 12 dollars. Max I got was for $16. What am I doing wrong? 8 hours of work and barely a $100/day. Please reply😭

    Your videos are always super informative! I've been doing DD on and off for over 2 years and I still continue to learn new things when I watch your channel. How many hours on average do you work per week to hit $2k? And, do you use a dash cam/body cam while delivering?

    I started driving recently and like your videos, but Im not sure I believe that they prioritize the way most people think they do.The main objective of these apps is to get the delivery to the customer as quickly as possible. The last thing they want is someones food sitting there getting cold or a customer waiting 45 minutes for their dinner. They will probably never use that app again. So having said that, if the driver with a low acceptance rate is within a mile of a restaurant and a "top Dasher" is more like 3-5 miles out, guess who's getting that order? These apps are heavily weighted towards who is in the closest proximity to the pickup. That is their top priority and why you saw no real difference between acceptance rates.

      @@BestDasherAlive so you think DD is going to send an order to a driver 3 miles from a pickup over someone in the same parking lot just over acceptance rates? As you know, it can take you 20 minutes to go 3 miles in OC/LA. DD prioritizes time, that’s why they have the pickup by clock and rate you on early or on time pickups. As I said, their top priority is getting an order to the customer as quickly as possible.

    • @jaymartinson3236

      @michaelbell75 It definitely prioritizes the top dasher. I've been sent high pay orders when I'm miles and miles outside the zone in the middle of nowhere and the order is located in an area where it's very busy and there are lots of dashers around.

      Doordash appears from what most can tell and my own experience to be the most algorithm heavy, which can become a good thing but causes some pain until you and it reach a agreement, or in other words until you train it well while meeting the qualifications its hoping for.

      @@YeshuaKingMessiah that is what I thought until I learned the power of saying no to it with a high AR earned on EBT. If you can keep your stats up and still say no when you need to it will gift you strings of very high pay offers.
      Importantly it doesn't seem to learn forever, probably runs off reflection of the rolling 100, which in retrospect is a good thing, and it learns locally so if you do too many zones it's harder to manage but it definitely does respond to you telling it what offers you deem acceptable

Because technically, when we got to pick up an order, the order should actually be ready, but I have to wait nothing but quite a few restaurants I guess they know a little bit about it waiting more than five minutes they’re offering me a pop, some food, you know, etc. But honestly, I would just rather get my food faster. I just get out of there and get moving. Lol

    As far as going to the front of the line I've noticed this. Before I did this I purchased all my gear I have my doordash bags I have my Uber eats bags etc I walk in. I have the bag ready at chest height. They see the bag they recognize the green or Red. I've noticed others hanging around to the side looking at the phone cuz they an offer. I get dirty looks all the time from them. I get taken care of almost all the time in fact in front of people who are ordering. Very simply good evening good afternoon whatever it is very polite I'm extremely friendly. Very clearly spoken hi good afternoon I have a dual dash here for . Jim thank you very much. They'll grab the item if it's ready if not I will find out it's only going to be a minute or two they will look for me right away and again I have seen this happen all the time so spend the 20 bucks to get the bag. I'm in the Boston area I don't know if this makes any difference in other places but it works here

    Good video, I have a question I want to start DDing, but I just want to do an order or maybe 2 a day, probably not even every day. I know you mentioned the acceptance rate, and not being able to decline anymore. If you can't decline how would that work if somebody just wanted to do maybe a single delivery? I understand not accepting the orders will lower you. But I'd be fine hopping on my electric scooter and doing 1-2 orders. If DD doesn't allow declines I'm confused about how that would work though. I know a person can't accept every single order that comes in. But will DD even allow me to keep doing it if I only accept like 1 or 2 out of 100 orders? I don't care if I only make $10-20. I'm just looking for a tiny thing to do where I could make $100 a week with around an hour a day.
    And thanks for the backpack video, I'll be ordering that setup if after reading more I figure out if DDing 1 or 2 orders a day is even something you can do.

      May be better for you to just start and try it out to see if DD works for you. Most areas are no SoCal, yet there is a plethora of advice online from people working the SoCal regions to doordash in and their advice just doesn't add up to a lot of the country unless there are high income areas in cities set up for easy access to restaurants etc.
      What he said in the vid here is that the 'decline options' are gone. You can still decline an order, but now they don't always care why you are declining, app just nags you over your acceptance rate (some places don't even get that and your rate might tank quickly if you aren't checking it).

    I tell them it's their job to prepare the order, my job is to deliver a prepared order. If they object or want to argue "the others do it" I'll usually leave and reassign unless they're clearly very busy, short handed and ask me to help them out. When they just shove an empty cup at me that's completely disrespectful and I ain't putting up with it. Most have now learned but I still get one or two occasionally.

      Can’t handle open containers without a food handlers permit. Open cup is an open container. You can’t handle it as a dasher because you don’t have food handlers permit. Restaurant must handle it because they have food handlers permits and must hand you sealed containers/bags for you to deliver
