Hi my name is Phil i did 50yrs on the footplate I started Edgeley shed in 1961 i moved to Trafford Park in 1962 till 1964 then went back to Edgeley I have fired a number of locomotives in my time.Regards Phil.
I’ve enjoyed trains, especially steam trains since I was tiny and my parents took me to my uncle’s house in Glasgow by train because our Renault 4CV was old and knackered!!
Dutchess had some wheel slip tgere after 10:30 but had a good fireman. Smoke was perfect light gray color which means fireman fed tge firebox just right and lots combustion took place excellent presentation my friend
Thanks Dave. I was rather annoyed at the time with people getting in the shot but glad some wheel slip showed and what a sound They will of been old hands at firing back then. Today there are probably no firemen left and not many drivers who worked with steam daily. Younger ones are still good, they have to be to work on the main lines, but they will not know as many tricks as the old guys did.
Yes I left it unedited as I mostly do with these archives It was so different back then at Skipton. I like I got the people running all over even down onto the track side and the very uneven platform stones. At the time I was not so happy and was glad we were outside Leeds with a clear view earlier.

Good memories. I was tiny when I got to like trains too. Used to go by train cos we had no car to go into town
