    I think it was cool that Katniss and Peeta actually fell in love at the end of the story.

    I hated that they didn't show in the film how depressed and shell-shocked Katniss was when she and Haymitch went back to the Victor's Village, and how the sight of Peeta and the primroses he was planting for Prim inspired her to finally shower after weeks of sitting, throwing away the rose that Snow left for her so long ago into the fire, and wanting to feel alive again. Anyone who has been depressed can't help but be touched by her launching into motion again. Struck by something so simple and powerful it can only have one name: love. Hits me so hard every time I read it.

      I felt drowned throughout the part where she couldn't even kill herself if she wanted to because she was too depressed. Even after Peeta comes too she was only showing a bit of changes. But not until she found Buttercup. That moment was heart wrenching that I cried for a solid 20 minutes

    In the first book, when Katniss's family has been starving and Peeta burns the bread, it makes Katniss remember that it is spring and there's tons of dandelions around to make bread with. In the last book, Katniss says, regarding choosing Gale or Peeta, that she needs the "dandelion in the spring ... the reminder that life can go on." This entire series is flush with symbolism. My heart.

    Let’s be real, peeta is the true protagonist of this series. It hurts knowing how he feels the whole time, going back and reading katniss’s interpretation of his actions just wanting to shake/hug this poor traumatized girl who can’t imagine kindness being a motivation. When I first read the books I was 11, (not eligible for a reaping) and a 16 year old seemed so much older, now I’m 19 and reading it again and think through the lens of myself at 16 and it just hits different

    • @katieviolet29
      @katieviolet29 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I read the books for the first time at 9 but I reread at 16 during quarantine. The emotions I felt knowing that these people were meant to be my age. That they were still children. That they didn’t know any other world than suffering. Reading it with a 1 year old baby sister is one thing, but reading it with an 8 year old blonde little sister who is too sweet for her own good is another. I’m thinking of rereading again but I don’t think I can make it through Mockingjay now that my sister is Prim’s age. Prim’s death has always been too much for me, I sobbed my way through the last few chapters.

    I was always a bit annoyed that we never got more of Peeta's backstory. Like we never even got the names of his brothers! Why did his mother beat him? Was it just Peeta or were all his brothers hurt? Why did none of them want to live with him in his house in Victors Village? and if his dad was so kind, why did he marry a woman known as 'the witch'? Like what was their marriage like? I know the books were from Katniss' POV, but I feel there was a lot more we could have known about Peeta.

      I think Peeta’s dad was heartbroken when Katniss’ mum ran off with Mr Everdeen so married for convenience ( maybe Peeta’s mum became mean and resentful over time, realising she was his second choice, and never wanted kids, for the same reason as Katniss but felt socially obliged to)

Watching Peeta breeze his way through the social work before and after the games just made me dislike him while being envious of his talent. The fact that the books are in Katniss’ POV exemplified this. I felt the same begrudging dislike for him as Katniss did up until the second film where their dynamic properly changed. It kind of pissed me off how the film (which I think is a fairly decent adaptation overall) sort of brushed off Peeta's kindness in the bread scene. Without knowing the book you have no idea why Katniss is sat outside the bakery looking sad, and Peeta's already burnt the bread, making it feel like a random decision without any reason behind it. Like the whole point is that Peeta deliberately burns the bread, because he sees Katniss first and feels bad for her situation. He actively decides to take a risk and do something incredibly kind and brave, and give her some food, even though he knows he'll get in trouble for it!

    Peeta's strength of character is so strong that not only did he find his way back to himself after the horrific torture he endured but also found his way back to the feeling he had/has for Katniss. His first act after getting back to District Twelve after being released from the care of Dr. Aurelius was to plant Primroses for Katniss. The Capitol couldn't break him. They tried but failed. Even Pres. Coin couldn't, and boy did she want him to. Oh, and she only wanted him over Katniss, because she mistakenly believed Peeta was easily manipulated. Which he wasn't. He was also on board with a rebellion before Katniss was, even mentioning it during the Victory Tour during the party at Pres. Snow's mansion. Yeah, Peeta was not ignorant or blind to the atrocities of the Capitol, but unlike Gale, Peeta didn't give in to the anger and hatred it elicited. Instead, he used it to fuel his kindness and compassion.

    I've loved Peeta ever since I first read this trilogy, and he's probably one of my top 3 favorite characters. I was just always so amazed that someone as kind and compassionate as him could exist in a cruel world such as Panem, and I truly believe that his resemblance to Prim was a sign that he would be a bright spot in Katniss's world just as Prim was, as both of them had innocence that became strength and resolve. Seeing him suffer so much pain is heart wrenching, but him fighting his way back is something worth seeing because ou know the worst of the world can't truly take away someone so good.
    It honestly breaks my heart that the "Peeta vs Gale" nonsense ever happened, because you can tell that a lot of it was people just deciding which actor they found more attractive rather than focusing on them as people, as Peeta got hit with this aspect of it way more than Gale, with people calling him weak and other words that just aren't true. It's one reason why I really feel the books should be read, so people can see Peeta for the man he was meant to be, rather than just a handsome face on the screen.

      I had a crush on Josh Hutcherson ever since I was 11. When I found out he would be playing my favourite character I cannot tell you how excited I was!

    And this is how you write a love story: not rushed, not cheesy, just two people with shared trauma trying lo live a happy normal life 🖤 It made me so happy that Peeta ends up living a life he surely had dreamt of

      As somebody with so much trauma even truly finding your soulmate with the Same trauma??? is not what you dream of. You'd never want someone you love going through it and honestly in real life they probably wouldn't be able to be so close without detriment too their mental health. A love story should just be a love story. We should not and do not need to romanticize pain and very real trauma. This book is fiction. The people who really go through shit are not. The comment you made sort of offended me and seemed insensitive not thoughtful and inconsiderate

      Kinda like forgetting Katniss having an enhanced ear because her was damage during the 74th. It made me laugh at first, then made me sick how she said thanks to the new ear she can hear the frequency of the shield of the 75th arena (it was a lie, she was using rocks and nuts that would rebound). She thought that if she made the reason that her ears were giving her an advantage it would cost the life of the one who fixed it.

      At the almost end, he loses his leg when he was getting healed. He lost his leg because Cato had slashed his thigh when he told Katniss to run when she did the tracker jacker accident (Not an acual accident)
