This is a rare time where I believe that a character was developed better in the films than in the books. While its apparent that Effie realized the capitol were the bad guys in the books, her being a part of the rebellion in the films was amazing
That's what I like the most about the Hunger Games movie saga, that even those VERY few things they changed from the books, they changed in a clever way and in certain cases for the better (with the exception of a couple things in the first movie, like how Katniss aquires the Mockingjay pin imo, but well) I love the books to death but honestly I was always bummed that at some point Effie pretty much disappears and is just mentioned vaguely at the end of Mockingjay...I adored the fact that the movies kept her around to actually let us see her grow
Irl her character had replace the gamermaker’s as his actor died during arching fire and ofc never made it to mockingjay (his little appearance was actually cgi) but it was a great decision.
I love how Effie’s character developed throughout the books, in catching fire she finally realized who the real enemy was... the capitol, and she had more emotion.
Aiden T Here’s a cool fact - Euphemia "Effie" Trinket was born in the Capitol in 44 ADD to Justinus and Euphemia Trinket Sr. She was named after her mother. Her parents were famous sponsors of Capitol News, Capitol TV and more while also being very wealthy bankers.
Aiden T yea in the first movie she was always so upbeat in that situation which wasnt a very good impression on me and for the rest of the movies she started to actually see what was really going on which made me see her real emotions
Honestly, i don't think she was as empty headed and clueless/uncaring as she portrayed herself to be. Think about it - the districts and Panem in general were a police state - run by completely corrupt, morally bankrupt elites. Even the more prominent capitol citizens like Effie have to watch their backs. Say the wrong thing or step out of line? and you get Avoxed or worse... disappeared and have god knows what done to you. Look at what happened to poor Cinna. The walls have ears, and the damned trees have eyes in panem. She knew damn well what had happened to Haymitch's family, what was done to Finnick and other tributes over the years - I really think she was TRYING to spare peeta and Katniss some of that by "keeping them in line" and making them play the game and fly under the radar best she could. I really think she was in cahoots with Haymitch the whole time... his insider in the capitol. Who suspects the goofy, empty headed bimbette is actually a revolutionary passing messages between folks like Plutarch and Haymitch? How did haymitch even link up with Plutarch? It was effie... had to be. Who else? Thats just my .02 of course.
Yea. You see it especially in the last one where it's only the two tributes instead of 'everyone's chance' Like she's made up but you can tell it was half assed and she's not even trying to play to the crowd and flaire. She's fully aware that this is EFFED UP to the MAX and she's forced to be part of it. Like not even able to 'fake cough fake cough, sorry I have the flue, fake sneeze' forced.

I agree, I didn't like how Katnisses prep team were portrayed in the movies. In the movies they were much more heartless and didn't develop at all. I suppose the movies did that because they put Effie in District 13 to sort of fill the roles that the prep team would have had. Unfortunately, that took away the earliest opportunity in the movies for us to see that Pres. Coin had a much darker side that she kept hidden from nearly everyone.
Personally, I think Effie in the films was done a little better than in the books - because we were able to see her personality and witness her changes and growth, and I did like how she was in the last films rather than locked up - considering everything she’s seen and how close she became to Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch, I doubt it would have been wise to have her locked up or that she could still be all sunshine and butterflies. It shows in the last films how that even though she still keeps her personality and fashionista persona, she’s showing concern for those she cares about. I feel the films make it a little more ambiguous as to what she’s going to do with her life now that the Hunger Games are over, and that’s honestly for the best than returning to the Capital.

She was the PR person. Chins up, smiles on! She reminded me of my Dad's wife when she put me in a beauty pageant when I was a kid. "I don't care how you're feeling or what you're thinking; you smile, dammit."
A lil’ rant: Effie’s character is such a beautiful one inside and out. I appreciate good writing that doesn’t describe “bad people” as 1-dimensional Disney villains. Effie was a capitol puppet, yet in her story-arch we see how she evolves her thinking and acknowledges the error in her personal concept of what is good/bad. THAT is how you write a story and write a character. Underneath the whole capitol facade she had some humanity behind the makeup and elaborate outfits. We should always permit people the right to pave their own destines and better themselves because there are reasons behind certain actions. Effie was just complying to the inhumane culture that she was conditioned to obey. However, she changed due to the power of friendship. Friendship works in mysterious ways. Can’t relate though...
You have no idea how happy this makes me. I love the hunger games and I thought you were done with it. Please please keep adding more hunger games videos!!!!
Effie is probably my favourite character. She was well-meaning and tried to make the last days of her tributes' lives comfortable since she knew that they didn't have much of a chance in the games. She really did care for her team, saying how they deserved so much better once she realized that there was no reason for their deaths other than for the entertainment of the Capitol. I really like what they did with her in the Mockingjay films, they really developed her character well. Funnily enough, Effie likes hair and makeup, and I get my hair done IRL by someone named Effie. Fun coincidence.
She may be superficial, naive & indoctrinated but her character is likable insofar as the development & maintaining of human dignity even under corrupt egregious circumstances. Like how Marie Antoinette kept her self worth & dignity with chin up as she was carted to her execution, refusing to give the barbaric mob what they wanted to see: fear, grovelling & apologetic remorse. Effie appreciated the etiquette of civilized form & dignity in the midst of futility
Effie is the great example of being a person that always was privileged all her life so she‘s in her perfect bubble and ignore the reality but she’s not a bad person she’s just not used to suffer for anything
Nooooo. We already know a lot about those characters.Waste of time for a guy who already works hard to find out about secondary character’s history.I would like to see Mrs.Everdeen
I find it funny as when katniss tried to stab haymitch in the train she was so de-sensitized she didn’t care about his hand, she was more worried about a material object
I like the movie version of her more. She has more character and has more heart! I love that she was able to be her regular fabulous self but have compassion and empathy for people in the hunger games at the end.
I liked the book Effie, but Banks did bring her to life. Watching the bright Effie wear the drab clothes kinda broke my heart a bit. I think she was really naive about it all, until she wasn't
Her reaction to the drab clothes resonated with me. Being someone who also loves clothes and identifies with the clothing that they wear, my heart broke for her
You just made me love the character so much more. I personally prefer Effie from the films because Elizabeth Banks brought her to life so well and she was so loveable to me. She is probably my favourite character in The Hunger Games now.
No, Effie could never lived the life of District 12. Even after the events, when it was clean and peaceful, Effie was not someone that could have lived there. Effie lived in the capitol. Although things would change the city was still the only place she would have felt at home.
I love how while the districts call them "Peacekeepers," Effie once referred to them as "Peacemakers." Another subtle difference in how the districts and Capitol view the police. The districts think they "keep" Peace from being a thing in Panem, while the Capitol thinks they "make" Peace by signing people's death warrants, like mediators.
I wonder if losing those tributes every year took a toll on her? Like I bet even though she acted like it was all a fun game, she was probably super messed up under all that
I think she just accepted the fate of the tributes, and refused to care. So yeah, I think this was a messed up way to “cope” with her job. Dissociating with morals and humanity. Something that is very common in jobs like these…
I don’t know, she kind of seem to treat it like it was an honor Plus, it seems like Katniss and Peeta were the first tributes that she actually cared about
Gacha Rose shes on to bigger things now. I’m happy for her though. I know deep down she will forever be thankful and grateful for the hunger games franchise :)
I do honestly really ship them but after what Haymitch was put through with his girlfriend being killed i doubt that in reality he would ever want to date let along get married ever again :) but if he hadn't had to go through that trauma then yes DEF WOULD SHIP ALL THE WAY
i love effie so much :,) she was not evil, it's just the way she was raised. i love how she got a lot of screentime in the last movie when she was not supposed to.
She was not clueless, it was all an act to keep herself safe. Capitol's a treacherous place and playing dumb and shallow is the surest way to stay alive.
Usually changing a character from the books almost entirely for the films doesn't go well. For Effie, it went beautifully. Elizabeth Banks made it work, and the way they changed her so it fit the story yet still wasn't majorly different. Also Haymitch and Effie's relationship was the best change to ever happen in the films
The other problem with the rebels is a lot of them wanted to continue the hunger games but use capitol citizens instead as punishment, despite the whole point of the rebellion being to end the hunger games
Before I realized that the escorts and stylists are always assigned a district, I wondered if they might sometimes choose to work with someone from an outlying district so that they can feel good about themselves for working with "these poor, disadvantaged children," and if by some miracle, their tribute won, they could REALLY feel like a savior. Just a thought
I see what you’re saying. I still feel like the capitol was so vapid that they would rather stylized the tributes from the more well-off districts. The ones that would get more attention.
Effie is such a good character and absolutely my favorite. One thing I disagree with is that she used to genuinely enjoyed the Hunger Games. I don’t think that was totally true. Like most Capitol citizens, she didn’t seem to think they were as bad as they are, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she liked them. I think that prepping kids for their deaths did have an impact on her. While fashion was certainly an important aspect of her life, Effie could have also used it as a coping mechanism for how screwed up her job was.
I guess, Effie Trinket is the second most popular character in Hunger Games Series. She’s iconic and she is the perfect epitome of Capitol. Speaci mention to Elizabeth Banks - there’s no other actress who perfectly portray Effie Trinket.
I like the change they made for the film. Effi was one more friend for Katniss at 13 and a great support. And an captiol Effi whos get used to a poor life was a great element of comedy. I think it worked great and it would have been a shame to cut her out in the final movies. Normally i'm very critic with deep changes between book and film, but i appreciate this one!
Haymitch lived a life no one else could put up with. He was forced into the games with twice as many people and his family and girlfriend was killed after he came back so he resorted to alcohol and now everyone just thinks he’s some slob who has no life
Effie’s life is the one thing about the films did that I prefer over what was done in the books. Number one because I love her character and it was nice to see more of her, and two because there’s something relieving about knowing that she didn’t have to go through anything traumatic and walked away from the whole ordeal without any scars, as she did in the books. I also wish that the books had elaborated more on exactly what was done to Effie. Literally the only thing it says is that she was imprisoned and that she had a “vacant look” in her eyes (which is extremely vague and doesn’t really provide any sort of real information). But like, I want to know what exactly happened to her. Was she tortured, or questioned, or starved or anything? No one knows. That’s another reason why I prefer what the movies did. We just know more about what happened.
i love coming on youtube and seeing he posted a new video. i’m going through a hunger games BINGE right now, whether it’s reading the books, watching the movies or even at night watching these vids, so thank you for great content (:
I love how they bought her to life in the movie - yes, they did Effie justice! My most favorite part is when she 1st comes to life in The Hunger Games - when she taps the mic.
Effie was just that character that gives it a more comedic feeling every now and then. One of my favorite things she says is. “That is mahogany!” - Effie The Hunger Games 1. Idk why it’s just really funny that she takes some small things so seriously and can be so funny around others! Another thing I love that she does is in Catching Fire when they have their “wedding” and she walks by a person and says “oooo curtains.” And sort of slapped the person with a lamp head or something on. Idk I just see that as me.
There's a Hunger Games fanfiction floating around online with almost 120 chapters that explores what could've happened if Haymitch's family lived and Snow sold him to high-ranking Capitol officials like he did Finnick, there's also a subplot of him falling in love with Effie and being the one to make her open her eyes and realise how sick and twisted everything in the Capitol is. It also has her and Haymitch act kind of like Katniss and Peeta's second parents. I don't usually read fanfiction but I had a friend who was absolutely obsessed with it and made me read ut so she could have someone to talk to about it, and it's honestly worth a read, a very interesting take, and it's cool to see Katniss' story play out from other people's perspectives, since the book is mainly told in hers only.
One thing I wished the first movie put in from the book was after Katniss shot the arrow at the game makers, she wasn't as upset as she was in the movies. She straight up called them rude for ignoring Katniss and I thought that was really great.
Great job as usual, I also enjoy these HG "Life Of"'s a lot. In addition to Peeta & Coin, I think most of the HG fans would probably want to see a Life of Cesar Flickerman one. Is that doable? And I saw in the comments the suggestion about a short stories one of some of the minor characters. That would be great as well, probably need multiple vids for that, maybe one for each book. Looking forward to the next one and thanks for doing Effie!
Her fate in the books actually makes sense. Her talents were not specifically needed by district 13 and they hated her because she was from the Capitol. Also, Katniss was imprisoned after killing Coin and Effie probably didn't know if she was ever going to get out.
I would also like to point out how in the films they use her hair and makeup to illustrate her change from a capital pawn and into her own self. In the first hunger games she wore white makeup. Looked ghostly. And overtime she came to be more and more subtle. Until the last scene where she kisses haymitch she has an almost natural look to her make up. It really is crazy to watch her become herself
Effie was the literal catalyst for the entire series and the rebellion because if she had moved her hand a little bit to the left the entire fate of Panem would have been completely different.
Do you prefer Effie in the films or in the books?

Clare l3ear But if she had never picked Prim’s name Katniss would never have gone into the games therefore she would never become “The Mockingjay”
My theory is that it didn’t matter because it was rigged to add drama
@@lovelykitty42 Nothing is rigged if the author writes it. It just makes sense
@@misterminutes4504 yeah but is it that hard of a thing to imagine the Capitol doing? choosing a little girl with a family to create drama?
She was the PR person. Chins up, smiles on! She reminded me of my Dad's wife when she put me in a beauty pageant when I was a kid. "I don't care how you're feeling or what you're thinking; you smile, dammit."
I'm sorry that i laughed
A lil’ rant:
Effie’s character is such a beautiful one inside and out.
With ujraine and mid east and alien human hybrids. It is easier relating

Being someone who also loves clothes and identifies with the clothing that they wear, my heart broke for her
Yet I never felt more proud of her.
You just made me love the character so much more. I personally prefer Effie from the films because Elizabeth Banks brought her to life so well and she was so loveable to me. She is probably my favourite character in The Hunger Games now.
Can you please do a "Life of the less known Catching Fire Tributes: Short Stories"?
Andrew Sakahara Yes please! That would be great!
Mags, nuts, chaff and the carears
There is a short stories that detail the less known catching fire tributes' lives? if there is, I NEED IT
yesssssss. pleeeaasseeee! that would be awesome!!!!!!
No but like... IS THERE A SHORT STORIES COMPALATION I NEED TO KNOW
Honestly, Effie could have instead stayed with Haymitch. They were, oddly, good for each other in the end. Instead she just... went home.
Effie is the epitome of "it doesn't affect me so I don't care." we see a lot of that these days.
I mean I like her but yes
I wonder if losing those tributes every year took a toll on her? Like I bet even though she acted like it was all a fun game, she was probably super messed up under all that
I think she just accepted the fate of the tributes, and refused to care. So yeah, I think this was a messed up way to “cope” with her job. Dissociating with morals and humanity. Something that is very common in jobs like these…
I don’t know, she kind of seem to treat it like it was an honor
Plus, it seems like Katniss and Peeta were the first tributes that she actually cared about
She was an incredible portrayal. I loved the kiss between her and Haymitch. It was affectionate, but both realized it wasn’t lasting.
I’m so happy they added her to 13 in the movies. her character development is amazing one of the best I’ve ever seen
Damn i really love thia channel for hunger games stories and especially harry potter🤩🤩❤️❤️ awesome work!!
Who else wishes that Jennifer Lawrence still talked about hunger games :(
Gacha Rose me :(
Gacha Rose shes on to bigger things now. I’m happy for her though. I know deep down she will forever be thankful and grateful for the hunger games franchise :)
Eric Jaramillo
Yeah she sucked Weinstein for that role
Lizzie Zik Can you leave that shit out of this? No one cares about that bastard ok.
Phil also hunger games is made by wb since when dose the winsten compony own Warner brothers ?
the actress who played her did such a marvelous job since she's exactly who I imagine in the books and at least they did a good job on that.
Favourite Effie line:
“Well this isn’t very festive!”
Anyone else ship Effie and haymitch ?
eh not really. it’s possible, but i don’t think Haymitch would want that, especially after his girlfriend was killed by (Snow?) many years ago.
yesss I was so happy they kissed in the movies
@@lovegood141 Only cause the actors wanted to.
Yess
I do honestly really ship them but after what Haymitch was put through with his girlfriend being killed i doubt that in reality he would ever want to date let along get married ever again :) but if he hadn't had to go through that trauma then yes DEF WOULD SHIP ALL THE WAY
i love effie so much :,) she was not evil, it's just the way she was raised. i love how she got a lot of screentime in the last movie when she was not supposed to.
Frick man. I want to re read hunger games now
I've read each book 4 times! 😂😂
DO IT!!!
It will change your life!
She was not clueless, it was all an act to keep herself safe. Capitol's a treacherous place and playing dumb and shallow is the surest way to stay alive.
It's just amazing that Effie didn't surgically alter herself.

The life of Annabeth Chase: Athena thought Mr. Chase very handsome and her mind made a baby girl (with a belly button) real.
Effie is one of the rare characters who was done with justice and actually came to life (and more) in the films.
After watching the films, Elizabeth banks is Effie, great video as usual
i love effie's character arc so much. she really deserves so much more credit than she gets
"this is not very festive" 😂😂
Effie is such a good character and absolutely my favorite. One thing I disagree with is that she used to genuinely enjoyed the Hunger Games. I don’t think that was totally true. Like most Capitol citizens, she didn’t seem to think they were as bad as they are, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she liked them. I think that prepping kids for their deaths did have an impact on her. While fashion was certainly an important aspect of her life, Effie could have also used it as a coping mechanism for how screwed up her job was.
"You know what needs a revolution that Hair" -Effie
I guess, Effie Trinket is the second most popular character in Hunger Games Series. She’s iconic and she is the perfect epitome of Capitol. Speaci mention to Elizabeth Banks - there’s no other actress who perfectly portray Effie Trinket.
For the longest time I didn't know Elizabeth Banks's name, so whenever I was talking about her I referred to her as Effie Trinket.
Effie being with Katniss over the course of the rebellion was one of the best decisions they made in the movies.
She is quite underrated. She was seen as a betrayer and yet she was never trusted by the rebellion.
Me:-
Effie: “Manners!”
"She's an icon, she's a legend and she is the moment" 😩✨️💅
The movies elevated her as a character
I was so happy that the filmmakers decided to include Effie in the Mockingjay! I really loved her character development
She’s actually one of my favorite characters. Her bubbly attitude, her accent, and especially her makeup/outfits 😂
Effie made me obsessed with the line "THAT IS MAHOGANY" and I would say it with her accent 😭💀✋
I'm so grateful they put Effie on district 13 in the movie. She has very good character development and giving colors to dull district 13
No idea why , but boy I could listen to your voice narrate about anything for hours ..
Effie Trinket has always been my favourite character of the series, and always will be :)
Always excited for more Hunger Games, especially with you Morgan!
If there was ever an instance of someone breathing life into an unimaginable character, it’s Elizabeth banks “ Effie”
I can’t even lie, your videos(I’ve watch all of the Hunger Games ones) are incredible. Thank you and good luck in future endeavors
Was it called Invictus? Because I still love that fanfiction!
One thing I wished the first movie put in from the book was after Katniss shot the arrow at the game makers, she wasn't as upset as she was in the movies. She straight up called them rude for ignoring Katniss and I thought that was really great.
“when you put enough pressure on coal, it turns into pearls”
Only OGs remember this
Yay this was one of the people I asked for. Thank you so so so SO MUCH. Your the best!
The only good change the movies made was Effie especially in mackingjay, Suzanne Collins really did her dirty
*Mockingjay
Not to be that person but...
I love Hunger Games and Harry Potter! I was studying a speech that is in the Shakespeare play, Hamlet. I really needed a brain break. Thank you!
Wtf those r my exact fav to 😍😍😍😍😍
Her fate in the books actually makes sense. Her talents were not specifically needed by district 13 and they hated her because she was from the Capitol. Also, Katniss was imprisoned after killing Coin and Effie probably didn't know if she was ever going to get out.
Effie lived in the books too tho
I would also like to point out how in the films they use her hair and makeup to illustrate her change from a capital pawn and into her own self. In the first hunger games she wore white makeup. Looked ghostly. And overtime she came to be more and more subtle. Until the last scene where she kisses haymitch she has an almost natural look to her make up. It really is crazy to watch her become herself
I miss the Hunger Games 😞
Honey wake up, new hunger games movie coming
Effie is a great character to the series. Brilliant character build up & how she interacts & contrasts 👍
At the beginning of every “the life of” videos “(blank) is one of my favorite characters” lmfao
"A lot of scars that required healing." That sums up everyone in the books/movies.
And everyone who ever lived.
Personally, when it comes to The Hunger Games, I believe the movies were a whole lot better than the books. You do a great job explaining!
Effie was the literal catalyst for the entire series and the rebellion because if she had moved her hand a little bit to the left the entire fate of Panem would have been completely different.
