Thank you for reviewing something that would be good for those of us
with a handicap/dexterity issues! People like me often have low or no
income and also high medical expenses and getting products that may not
work is a real gamble...so its good to know for sure!

My late grandmother could have used this. She didn't really even have bad arthritis, just not a great grip in old age.
I do occasionally get jars that are hard to open, typically pickle and olive jars. They are invariably glass jars with metal lids. I typically will use what is known as a strap wrench to get them open. A strap wrench is a rubber strap with an external handle for leverage. It usually works, but still requires quite a bit of effort. I mention this as an alternative for people who don't want to pony up the money for something like this that will likely get used a couple of times a year.

I enjoy your reviews so much! You look at a wide range of interesting products. I'm one of those people with issues opening jars. I have neuropathy in both hands, so the noise and time factors would not matter to me. I have spent longer than a minute trying to open a jar, only to put it back in the cabinet and wait for my friend to come over so he could open it. The Robo Twist and I are going to be good friends!

Take a flat screwdriver and stick it inbetween the lid and the jar from below. Give it be a little twist so that the lid (just momentarily) slightly deforms. This will let the air in, and after that has happened it will no longer put up any fight.

Thanks sooo much for this review! I'm a single lady struggling with the "joys" of aging (63 and counting...), and am having a lot of problems opening many jars. I just don't have the grip strength I used to, so opening jars is now a painful, frustrating experience. Oh my god, I could've used this a few days ago! I was making chicken and shrimp alfredo and the stupid lids to the sauce jars were bigger than my palm or about the same size. I turned the jar over and patted the bottom of the jar several times to help out and then twisted. I wasn't getting a good grip for nothing. Add in that the kitchen was sweltering and my hands were sweaty (knees weak, arms are ready) and I wasn't in a pleasant mood. I considered calling my brother and roommate over to open it for me but my pride drew the line there, lol.
With red, aching palms, I finally was able to finish dinner. Thankfully I only needed two of the three jars I bought or else yes...pride be damned, bro, come open this jar for your sis!
But I won't be too proud to get anything like this product. This would be great for all those blasted glass jars like jelly or pickles that are a pain, literally, to open.

I use it all the time and have used it for years. I have severe arthritis in my hands and can’t open anything. Thirds has been a life saver and more than worth the money. My husband is almost 80 years old and while at one time his hands were very strong, he has lost the strength in his hands and cannot open jars either. This is one product we can’t live without, we would buy it again (and have) no matter what the cost.
To works faster if you hold the opener steady on top of the jar.

I bought mine at a Thrift store (Brand new still) and I have to remove the batteries after every use other wise it'll turn itself on at random times when it's just sitting on a counter not being touched, it's came on by itself when I was the only one home and I was in the living room and it's in the kitchen 3 rooms away from it lol
But even with that issue I LOVE THIS , I am only 41 but have arthritis and it's very hard for me to get most jars open , I used to be able to use my rubber gripper to open jars but then that became painful and hard to get the lids off, so when I saw this at the Thrift store for only like 10 bucks I jumped on it! and haven't regretted it yet! And my kids even were happy that I got it, because I didn't have to bug them any more to open the jars for me :P As for 2 liter bottles or other small caps, I do have a hard plastic opener similar to the old glass bottle openers only it's round and it sits on top of the bottle cap and you just turn it to open the bottles .

  • @lynnalderton9051
    @lynnalderton9051 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I loved mine! I can't open a jar without it. Even if this takes a few seconds, that is nothing compared to running water on the under lid, tapping the lid with a knife, using a rubber piece to lay over the lid for traction - just to still be looking at a lid you can't get off of a stupid jar! My battery case will not stay closed anymore, so I am ordering a new one today!

I bought this because I have arthritic hands and it's a godsend! It does sometimes get stuck and sometimes I have to hold the button down until it catches but beats the heck out of not being able to open at all. Noisy af tho! And, I don't have a problem with plastic bottles either. I open Nutella all the time. I think that's a CYA because plastic is weaker than glass and it could possibly squeeze and crack it easily. Hasn't happened to me yet and I've had it about a year. Sometimes stops before taking lid off but never before breaking the seal which is all I need it to do.

MY HANDS ARE WEAK WITH SEVERE ARTHRITIS ONLY 67 YRS OLD , I DO PT TWICE A WK TO GET RELIEF AND DO HEATING, EXERCISES ETC AT HOME. DUE TO THIS I DONT MIND THE PRICE, NOISE OR WHATEVER IT TAKES TO OPEN A DARN JAR OR BOTTLE AT HOME. TIRED OF ASKING MY BLDG SECURITY GUARD FOR HELP, OR WAITING FOR MY FAMILY TO COME HOME FROM WORK TO OPEN SOMETHING. I ALSO NEED A WATER SODA BOTTLE OPENER. SAW ONE ON AMAZON THAT MIGHT WORK TOO SO I WILL BUY BOTH. I ALREADY OWN A CAN OPENER. AGING IS NOT EASY FOLKS, BUT IT IS PART OF THE DEAL. I'M GLAD TO BE HEALTHY, HAPPY AND LOOKING LIKE I'M IN MY MID 50'S, MY BONES KNOW THE TRUTH LOL.

great..thanks for your review ..my mum who is 90 ,suffers from severe arthritis and desperately needs something like this..it appears to work well ..i reckon just make a standardised metal tube to fit any bottle into would cause it to clamp and do its job on any lid...im going to check if you do a review for a tin opener ...my mum bought one and i took it back ..it was rubbish ...thanks a lot from england

I bought one when they came out. I also got one for Christmas. Could not get either to work like you have. Maybe I need to dig it out and try again.

this is a bottle opener for people who need help open bottles and jars but its actually a good bottle an jar opener just like most things give it a little extra time. now my question is do they have one that puts the lids back on? or does this bottle opener do that as well?

I have trouble with those damn "Childproof" lids that you have to squeeze... do you think this would work with those?

Glad to know it works in case my Black and Decker Lids Off ever stops working (I can't believe B&D abandoned that product when so many people still want it!).

Those vitamin water bottles are on nuts tight! Seriously insane hard to open.. I have the robo twist and love it. I can open any jar easy by hand, except those dang vitamin waters lol.. my wife can't and she uses the heck out of the robo twist, works every time.

Oh that loud noise was from the jar opener. I thought it was the jar screaming in agony as the machine was squeezing it and viciously twisting off the lid.

I tried it on a pickle jar and it failed three times. Lid is 3.25 inches and jar is 5 inches with hardly no neck to the bottle. The lower clamps start closing first which pushed the lid clamps off the lid every time. ?

i always have to run hot water to be sure the lid is not stuck. and if it still won't easily open, i need to stop or i'll have elbow pain for a couple of day - not sure why but i'm looking and thank you for this review.

bought a different brand but the same design for my mother the reason was that she has bad arthritis. About 7 years ago. It's the cullinare one touch which James mentions.
She wanted to use it mainly for jars of sweet pickle which were impossible for her to open. (Different brand to the test).
This worked for a while and then destructed itself. We bought another and we found that there is no warning when the battery is low..... it stops mid way through and you can't then get it off !!!
Culinare had a similar can opener . This worked great BUT again if the battery runs out halfway through you couldn't get it off.

I like when starting at 6:03 the lid pops open and right after the cell phone falls.

For anyone with both hands though, a table knife inserted under the rim of the lid and twisted just slightly, opens every jar every time for the 66 years I've been alive. It pops that seal right off!
