I second the notion for Redgie
Good, but let's go all out on tacky spelling.... RedJee
2023s are a total steal right now. I bought one in late December to rig out for overland camping. I had been on the fence from minivan camping for several months, because of the limitations of the minivan here in the Mark Twain National Forest. Well, I took the plunge and the only issue vs the minivan is that I can’t just hop in the back and sleep. So, the next upgrade will be a roof top tent. Then I’ll be ready for some deep country overland camping. It’s fun to build something, and I’m looking forward to seeing how Cara sets it up.
Love your channel and your new Jeep! For the name, I vote “REDggie”. Looking forward to following the build and adventures.
I heard Matt say "red jeep" but it sounded like "Reggie". I came to the comments and you beat me to it.
I came here to say this.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who heard that
I did the same. Already had a 2020 Gladiator but found a Gladiator Rubicon up in Illinois (I am in KY) that was exactly what I wanted and took advantage of the Jan deals and my local dealer went up and got it for me.
This gives me a “clean slate” and another vehicle that I can build out, learning from the last couple of years of things i wish I had done, or wish that I didn’t do.
Can’t have too many Jeeps!
Teraflex IR long arm 3.5-4” lift, falcon 3.3 shocks, 38 or 39 x 12.5 x 17 on non-headlock wheel.
EVO Revolution- quarter pounder and high clearance rear bumpers, also bomber sliders and skids.
488 revolution gears, taser mini to round off the build….!
I just bought a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon myself they are now 20k off. I just couldn't pass it up and am now watching your channel for ideas on outfitting it.
Just bought mine the end of January. I couldn't resist the deals on a 2023. Building it out now for the up coming camping season. I can't wait for your build videos. Love your channel and happy wheeling.
I know the factory steel bumpers aren't thick but for those in the northland factory bumpers are the only ones that stand up to sodium chloride that coats our roads in the winter. The coatings on all aftermarket bumpers rust in 2-3 if you don't repaint every year.
Jeep has really messed with us with this pricing. Everybody needs to realize they raised the MSRP’s to give these “discounts “ when I ordered my jeep in July of 22, when the 2023 order banks opened up, my MSRP was $68,000 when I picked my jeep up in October my MSRP was just over $71,000 the MSRP of my jeep at the end of the 2023 model year was $75,000. thankfully I ordered it from Gupton in Tennessee so my price was $60,000 look at the 2024 a loaded Rubicon X is about 70 grand. I bet if you ordered it from Gupton in Tennessee and you were a member of tread lightly you would probably be right around 62 63k don’t get me wrong that’s still way overpriced for a midsize truck with this powertrain that we all know we’re going to go put another minimum $15,000 in.
Now all that said absolutely love your guises jeeps and you two absolutely look incredible. Well done!
MSRP was not raised to give these discounts. Sully was 61k new 3 years ago. This new was 65k msrp with then 15k in discounts. Prices definitely went up over 3 years but not because of coming discounts.
18:04 "We're going to keep it light."
We'll see. #Temptations 😃
…for now. We have Sully. 😂
Well, congratulations on the new addition to the JEEP family that’s awesome. Will be great to see the build up as you go along.
I got bigger brakes after my first trip to Moab. My stock brakes held, but my foot was to the floor! Great info and congrats on the new Gladiator!! My JKU is Firecracker Red.
Congrats on y’all’s new Jeep! Exited to see the build !
Can’t wait to see it, you guys inspired me to get a 24 Gladiator and start getting out there! East Coast so my overland is different but so much good info from you and Brad from TR. Winch and recovery gear was first and I’m learning how to correctly use it, then the real fun begins
Can’t wait so see the build journey!
You can have a very comfy ride and very daily driver capable jeep even if you are on 42s, coilovers, and 1 tons.
Edit: with proper suspension and steering design, and shock tuning.
It's going to be a good time watching the progress of the build.
Very awesome such a great rig. Excited for you guys.
Just bought a Gladiator myself because of the rebates that are out there. Can't wait to see your new build come together.
Can't wait for this build series!
Clifford (carries on the big red dog theme) looks like a new clean slate!
Considering there is a Monster's Inc theme going with the names the new Jeep would have to be named either George (more orange than red though) or Flint if you want to keep that going. My son said it needs to be Mike, but then realized it would have to be green for that to work. Whatever you name it, we're looking forward to seeing the build and adventures it takes you on.
Great colour, I'm looking forward to following the progress.
I'm on a JLU Sport S with manual transmission. Regeared to 4.88 since I have two less gears than the auto guys. On 35s, plans for 37s. Currently on a spacer lift but should be swapping that out in the next year or so for a true suspension lift. New tires and high clearance fender flares should be incoming in the next year as well. I always love watching builds because I can get ideas and compare and contrast what I have.
I love my Renegade Trailhawk and the fact that it’s taken me over Imogene Pass and Ophir Pass, and all the off-roading and camping in Wyoming I do. But man oh man I want a Gladiator Rubicon.
Got some name ideas for y’all. In keeping with the Disney theme: Ariel (red hair), Lightning McQueen, Mushu from Mulan, Merida from Brave (red hair). Congrats on the Rubi JT!
I just put 37's on my JTR and I see 8th once and awhile. I think 4:88's are the right gears for overlanding. Great video you two and congrats on the new Gladiator
We just got (Last month) a 2023 JT Rubicon and the deals were amazing here in NM. I highly enjoy the Gladiator, but I love my 2024 JLU Rubicon X more.
Just watched this, going to be an awesome build, need to keep in mind if you're going to be pulling y'alls trailer or not when it comes to gearing for the 37s. Can't wait to see how it turns out!!
We just picked up a white 23 Mojave. While the new dash and grill is cool I liked the 16k saving in the 23 better. Looking forward to the new build. 🍻
Hi Matt and Cara, Congratulations on your new Jeep. Love the color. When you unveiled the new Gladiator I Thought “Rose” would be a nice name for your new Gladiator. The Red reminded me of Roses 🌹 🚗 Thank you for sharing.
Good stuff, great thought process on the foundation for modification builds. I have a 2020 Taco that I am still making modifications to based on how we use our verhicle. I think we are close to finishing the big mods based on our style of offroading/camping and living in CO and exploring the western states. We do pull a UEV 490 (re-geared Taco to 5.29's two years ago) going on our fourth season now with the UEV - we use it to base camp and explore areas. I think the biggest mistake anyone starting out is jumping into modifications prior to knowing how they are going to use their rig and more importantly, if their new vehicle is new to them - take the time to learn how it handles/drives before making serious modifications. The only three items you will need right off (IMPO) is good sliders, maybe tires and recovery eq. everything else will follow as you see the need.
Well said
I bought my 22 in 23 and got that deal. Jeep gives such good deals. I love the color y’all picked.
5.13 for the win
Looking forward to following along for the build. I have a 2022 JT Rubicon Diesel and am still in the process of evaluating options for the build.
You won’t see 8th gear for sure! I’m getting ready to re-gear now. I was pretty surprised 4:10 gearing wouldn’t handle my 37’s.
Great videos!
If you are accepting names I would suggest Clifford. The big red Jeep.
Congrats on your new Gladiator...look forward to the build.
Thank you for the video! For us toyota guys, would you consider doing a video with Robert of his do's and don'ts and what he has learned over the years?
Love the new Gladiator. Looking forward to your adventures with this rig!
You were actually nice when you talked about the things you dont like. Good job Matt.
I tried real hard. 😂😂
Beautiful Jeep! Congratulations!
I went 5.13s after a few months with 37s. Didn’t see 8th or 7th that often. 5.13s put things perfect. Also I thought you called the new Gladiator “Reggie” in the video but you just said “Red Jeep” but I kind of liked Reggie. Can’t wait to see what you guys do. I wanted to keep mine as close to stock as possible so I went with the AEV and Geometry brackets and I’m super happy. I want to stay as stock as possible for easy parts availability if I break on the road. Similar philosophy to Venture4wd’s Orangie and Trail Recons new build.
Oh man thats nice!!! I cant even get me one and you had 3 jeeps 😂😂😂 man i love your videos i hope i can join you on those trips!!!
Cooooooool!!!!
Love the red.
The build will be super exciting to see as it comes along…
IT’S RED TOO, AWESOME CHOICE
Congratulations ❤ love it and also I got Red Jeep 2 doors 2010 JK.. color Flame Red..can't wait for all the upgrades goodies ❤ Mahalo from New Braunfels Texas 🤙❤️🤙
Good job grabbing the deal in the Gladiator! I would have loved to but wasn’t able to swing it at this time. Can’t wait to see the build on this to get me by lol. As for a name I don’t even have one for mine so I’m no use there. Keep up the great work!
Congratulations, look forward to the build series
The family is growing..... My self got me a Sarge Green Rubi. Trade in my 2020 Sting Grey Sport S.👍👍👍
Looking forward to watch this build.
Enjoyed the preview. Awaiting the next episode.
I love the new addition! I’m excited to see its build! I live in far northeast corner of Tennessee. We don’t have any trials like the ones you guys travel. There’s a gravel road through the mountains/cherokee nat’l forest, but any trails made off of that road are illegal. Is there some sort of trail advocacy that you know of I could possibly talk with about getting more trails up this way? Thanks! Love that you & your wife wheel together!
I have a 2021 Gladiator Rubicon in the Snazzberry. Left it a truck and I love it!!!
4Runner got totaled and I picked up a 23 gladiator last day of January. Going through the same build decisions now. Starting with my overland set up first, but planning on 37s and 2 1/2 Clayton lift.
I just got a left over 2023 Punk'n Orange Rubicon Gladiator... the prices right now are awesome. Cheers!
I didn't know you guys were in Arkansas! I'm in Hot springs and watch y'all all the time. I just never put two and two together. That's awesome.
When I bought my current 4Runner, it was the height of covid. I was living in Austin Texas at the time, and traveled to Memphis, TN just to get it. Couldn’t find what I wanted in the entire state. Love the color of the new Rig.
I just dropped off my ‘08 tundra with a welder to have full length custom sliders built, $1500. Not a bad price for the strength and exactly what I want. I will just have to pull them off to bed coat them myself.
Congrats on the new JT, just got one myself and have it almost ready for this years overlanding. For a name, what about Red “Robin, Robyn?
I have the same Gladiator & my wife has a black one. Mines is named Fenix & hers is named Raven. Maybe we'll see you guys on a trail after we're done building them up & hit the road.
I’ve been wheeling for my entire life since I was a kid, everything from dirt bikes and atvs to jeeps and trucks.. I don’t disagree with anything said in this video. Congrats on the new gladiator and thanks for sharing this content! Also I vote Elmo for the name 😂
i just did the same thing couldn't pass up the price and plus after watching how good yours has held up it was a no brainer
Great Video as usual. Looking forward to seeing what you guys do with Red.
Sweet new ride guys!!!! Congrats!! Can’t wait to see all the new mods!! Also wanted to see if you can recommend a good suspension lift for a 2015 jk on 35s .. looking to build for overlanding so will be carrying some weight?! Any advice would be helpful! Thanks!!
We have been very happy with the Clayton lift on Cara’s Wrangler.
Congratulations on your guy's purchase of "Redgie" we look forward in seeing your next Overland video.
Should call it “Lightning” after Lightning McQueen
Love the new gladiator!! Congrats guys…
There were lots of great deals going on. I picked up a Mojave on Jan 28 in So Cal.
Yay!!! That’s what I got just in slate grey.
Lol figured it would be green so it would fit in as sully mike and boo but excited either way for you guys love the channel
Love your channel suggestion for the red Jeep. What about Clifford? also with my jeep gladiator, I’ve taken what you said to heart and rethought some of the stuff that I wanted to do with it
I ran full size 37s on my JLUR without a lift. I didn't wheel it but it was how I convinced my wife to pull savings money to buy a lift, "I already sold the 33s and put the 37s on and we can't go wheeling until I lift it"
I did a ceramic coating on my JT as well
This was great. Thanks all❤
Hey guys. Congrats on the new toy. If your gonna travel woth that one..AEV is the way to go. Their systems are the best for the best of both worlds
Get the AEV dualsport lift and call it a day. Drives and rides excellent both on and off road and reuses a lot of the factory components. Gives you all you need and nothing you don’t. TrailRecon just did this for his new gladiator, and I recently installed it on my 392 and could not be happier with it!!
Great suggestion although I’ve never been in an AEV equipped rig that I liked. The suspension was always too stiff for my liking. I am anxious to try Brads when we see him again.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures You get used to it lol! I think the newer AEV lifts (JL/JT) ride better than the one on my JK did. With that said, I have the High Capacity springs (like Brad’s) on my 392 (which weighs over 5000lbs) and it does ride stiff(er) than most lifts that are designed to flex more, but it’s still nowhere near as stiff as say, a 3500 pickup on leafs. Once you load it down with gear it actually rides perfect IMO. Brads is nice too with the remote reservoir Bilsteins which probably rides even better than my mono tubes. The main thing I love is the lack of droop when loading it down and the way it handles on road. It still does flex pretty good off road as well. If you’re interested, check out my shakedown video:
th-cam.com/video/Zrwtow6f-uQ/w-d-xo.html
Build it out with AEV stuff! The 8100 heavy shocks, bumpers lift etc...
Congrats and should call it redrum!
I am really looking forward to this new Jeep build progress. In sticking with the Monsters Inc. theme, Sully and Boo, maybe go with “2319!”😂 or more seriously “Roz”
congrats RUBY!
Ha! I knew it! Love the color
it's cool seeing the 419-area code on the jeep. I happen to live in the 419 area code. )
Looking forward to this segment. Wanna help me build mine as well? 😂
Rufus would be a great name, love your videos. Keep up the good work good luck on your build.
Great content, as always. I appreciate your honest insight. How about naming it, ‘Rojo Carruaje’ (Red Chariot in Spanish) … Since you’re looking to use it as your travel chariot in the future…
Haha I see mine already but was Red-Jee…got to love fire cracker love ours
Stock gears 37x12.50r17 its not bad, I ended up going 4.88 to start, I've added weight since then and do see 8th sometimes when fully loaded just shy of payload. Long story short moderate weight 488 is fine, my current situation wishing I had 513. Roads are a mix of flat and high grade.
I have a jku that I’m looking at new suspension for it. It’s my daily and light offroading. What suspension brand would you recommend?
Matt, you’re right with the name Reggie!!!
Congrats on the new ride.
Thanks!
I'm tempted to buy another jeep lol. A 2 door for fun times would be nice. Have a gladiator
All you TH-camrs (TrailRecon, Wayalife, and others) buying leftover discounted gladiators is cracking me up. Lol! Congrats! I love the red! Goes good with the blue and pink.
😂😂 you’re not wrong.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I can’t say I haven’t been looking myself. Bahahahaha
Looking forward to the new build. Consider fitting a Camp King canopy camper.
Congrats on the new jeep. Looking at getting myself some milestar Patagonias but i don’t think mud terrain would work well living in Michigan do you have any idea how the all terrains will do in the sand and snow?
Cara's Patagonia XTs have been excellent in the sand (she just got back from the desert with them and driving sand dunes) and they have done well in what little snow we got this winter. The XTs are 3 peak snow rated.
I'm on 35's see 8th gear all the time unless towing
Congrays on the new Jeep! 🎉
What slider/step do you use?
I have Ace Engineering sliders on Sully. Rock Hard 4x4 on Boo.
I’m putting 35’s on mine. My main reasons are lower center of gravity, it’s daily driven, less rotating mass, won’t need to regear and my biggest reason. My wife is only 5’2” and has had double hip surgery 😂
What stubby antenna did you get? There's like a bajillion to pick from!
Well Hell, should have reached out, we only live 45 mins from Beaumont.
Great video... We are in the same boat! Picked my 23' Rubicon JT last week. I've been planning quite a bit and have a pretty good idea where I want to take it....
However, I've decided not to make any moves until after Overland Expo West, this May.
I know we'll see something and go...."Oh man, "....lol
One question I have is.....steering component upgrade, right out of the gate, or plan for later?
Other Jeep is a 2002 TJ Wrangler, with 57k original miles...trail worthy!
Awesome. Come say Hi at the expo. We will be there. I would wait on steering upgrades. They will be needed down the road but not immediately.
