In my case, after replacing spark plugs and coils, the misfire came from a defective fuel injector. I have the M54, but maybe something to check for in the N54 engine also.
I have a 07 335i with 260000kms I am the second owner, car was completely stock when I got it. It has a VRSF charge pipe with tial BOV, VRSF catless downpipes, DCI, VRSF FMIC, MHD stage 2. Injectors were changed 4 years ago by bmw with index 10. I did a CRC chemical port cleaning about 15000kms ago. I just updated the coils and plugs to Delphi and NGK one step colder plugs. Instantly had misfires. I swapped coils around and that fixed it for a day or so, then same misfires. Swapped plugs around, that helped for a while, then same thing, misfires. I finally got pissed and took the new plugs out and replaced them with the old. Misfires are gone. I was told that when you mod and tune the n54 and are 400+HP, you have to upgrade to one step colder plugs. Am I missing something here? is there a setting in MHD that I have missed? pretty confused here.
My 2007 335i just developed a misfire under load. It sounds healthy if you rev it out without a load on the motor. Take off down the road and get into it and it hits between 3k and 3500rpm and almost acts like it’s hitting the rev limiter and then puts itself in limp mode and drives fine until you shut the car off again. I’m guessing I’ll start with plugs and coils and work my way up to media blasting if it’s needed.
I was having the same issue, and knock wood, so far the plugs and coils have fixed it. Take a look at your plugs when you take them out and see if they look fouled. Thanks for watching!
Good to know! I appreciate you getting back to me so quick. I’ll be following the page for more content on the car. It’s my wife’s ride but if we can convince her it’ll make more power reliably we’ll have a really fun toy! 🤙
@@frostyandtheklutz1606 Nice! I have some more content on the works for the 335i, but I need the weather to get a bit better first :-) But definitely Stay Tuned!
Update, changed the plugs and she runs like a scalded dog again. Had to turn down the “thin wall socket” another 20 thousandths and then coat it in grease to get the plugs out. Last time I get a specialty tool for that car from O’reilly’s! 🤣
how did the car run cant find a follow up video...mine has hiccups at idle then as it warms up idle bumps from 650rpm to 750rpm...anything under 1000rpm hiccups are there...it was only slight till i did an adaption reset.....im new to the car but had index 12s fitted less than 900 miles ago ...car runs smooth once driving ..no codes
The car is running great! We have actually put more things on, and I need to put that together. We have just been busy and I haven't had the needed time. But stay tuned, there is more to come with this car!
FlatironsTuning im thinking of putting ngk in mine but im only running stock , with vsr diwnpipes and k&n replacement filter will the gap be too small for me at 0.22
All I can say is that so far, they have worked well for us. The car now has an intake and intercooler with Cobb Stage 1+ tune, and running great so far. If you can change the plugs yourself, I'd say they are definitely worth a try.
FlatironsTuning thank you very much greatly apreciated i will be getting a local machanic to do it but im also getting genuine set of bmw ones just incase :)
Im in the need for new coils. Would you recommend these delphi coils or the other delphi you mentioned. I am currently running a n54 cobb ap as well with slotted turbos around 400hp range
Thanks for your question. Still no issues with these Delphi coils, but as I mention in the video, the fitment is a little wonky. If I had it to do over again, I'd try the new part number mentioned. Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
FlatironsTuning i ended up running these yeah they dont really fit in snug seems pretty loose i dont think im gonna run these again ill probably try out the others mentioned

My friend has 335is where I helped him get rid of the stock turbo’s and he went with a Precision 6262 single turbo and the car is a blast! Single turbo is so fun, well over 500hp and the stock block can handle it. Sometimes he gets misfires while cruising, could be a bad O2 sensor?
Thanks Matthew! Yes, these cars are a lot of fun, and they love to make power :-) As far as misfires go, you have to start with the basics, and work up from there. Injectors are another thing to look at, and we have also seen reference to a leaking valve cover gasket causing misfires if the oil gets to the ceramic of the plug. Most likely we won't be going single turbo, but you never know :-)
You have to be trolling. You supposedly helped a friend do a single turbo conversion on a BMW but yet you are asking an extremely broad question about misfires. That is not a simple plug and play upgrade. The amount of knowledge required to pull of a conversion like that and the amount of knowledge behind your question are not of the same caliber.
I have 07 335i . Over 100K miles on it . You have to decarbon blast the intake every 30K. I am the second owner starting at 50K miles. I didn't and waited at 90K miles . Made a huge difference . Running Access Port stage one conservative tune. Car is fun to drive. Only mis fire when I had worn plugs. The platform is 10 years old and has a lot of online resources and experienced owners. You aren't starting as pioneer with learning what works.
Thanks for the comment! This car is definitely fun. I think that the reason that it didn't take off quite as much as it could have when they first came out was because there were some small issues like the carbon build up, the misfires, etc., that just took a little while for the aftermarket to find solutions for. Now that there are proven fixes for the common problems, these cars are so much fun! Thanks for watching and Stay Tuned!
Hi!, I have an M54 2.5L, how was the coil 10328? I have it listed as a replacement for my car, also two more, including the 10571. I would like to know if you recommend the 14V or the 12V 10571. Thanks.
Thanks for your question Jose. I will not say that I have an expert opinion enough to point you to one coil or another for your engine. All I can say is that the 10328 coils did seem to fix our misfire issue (with new plugs of course), and have been solid for about 2,000 miles so far. The fitment is a little loser than I'd like at the top, but they are working. If I were to order another set, I'd try the 10571 in hopes that they sealed a bit better. I hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Hi! Great video! I have a 328i 2010 and I already change the spark plugs, coil packs and cranshaft sensor. It stop to doing the fault but two days later it starts to doing it again! I'm getting crazy and I can't figure it out yet. If you can help me i'll gonna appreciated!
At that point, I'd say that taking your car to a professional is the best next step. It is always nice when a simple solution works, but when it doesn't, an experienced set of eyes is really helpful. Best of luck getting your car running right again!
Wilber Hernandez Thank for the advice. I didn’t think it would work but I put a bottle of Techron concentrate in the tank and now my car is running perfect.
Hi I have a 2008 550i cilinder 7 misfire I've changed plugs and coil hardly noticable performance but I do feel the lack in power also also my sports muffler drones now and it didn't before it was normal any toughts?
My cylinder 4 5 and 6 are misfiring. I just replaced all coils and spark plugs and they’re STILL misfiring. Switched the plugs and coils around and it’s still 4 5 6. So the plugs and coils are good. A mechanic told me the valves are not functioning like they’re stuck. Could a walnut blast fix my problem?
Thanks for your question Blake. If you have eliminated the coils and plugs, the injectors do remain, but if you have never cleaned your intake manifold, that would be the most likely culprit since you have 3 cylinders that are showing misfires. I'd say that a second opinion from a tech that can look at the car would be a good idea, but media blasting may well be in your future. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Thanks Keith! Yeah, it was not too bad. I'd honestly say that if I had to do it again, I could probably change out the 335 plugs faster overall than the Subaru's... Other things? Most likely not so much :-)
That is totally up to you. My advice would be to go with something that is at least somewhat proven. Worst case is that you may have to seek something out like the Delfi's and repeat the coil replacement. Thanks for watching!
