I remember the night that they shut down the original Xbox Live servers in 2010. I stayed home from class that day, woke up at 9 AM, and my friends and I hopped on Halo 2. We played for almost 16 hours straight, only taking bathroom breaks and dinner. That day was so much fun, we had so many conversations with people who were just reminiscing about the game, and one of our MP matches just turned into both teams trying to help each other super bounce out of the map one last time. And I'm not ashamed to say that when I turned my Xbox off that night, I actually teared up a little. In a weird way, it almost turned into a "goodbye" to our childhoods. My friends and I spent most of our teen years staying up til 3 AM playing the game, and going to class the next day an absolute wreck from no sleep. In a weird way, I felt like a small part of me was being left behind.

It’s crazy to see the impact that Halo 2 had on people and the intense passion people had/have for it. I never really hear other people reminisce about their favorite games quite like people do about Halo 2. It was just a magical moment in time, and I’m glad I got to experience it.

The Scarab Gun, which can only be obtained if you slowly, and excruciatingly lure a Banshee into the big tunnel, which you need to time hijacking with the loading screen or else it vanishes
Then once you get that you fly up to a giant archway and on top of it is a floating plasma rifle.
But this aint no ordinary plasma rifle ooh boy no.
This Plasma rifle contained the power of a Scarabs cannon (which blows up a tank and ruins Kenya) There was no actual use for it, if you shot too close to yourself you just explode and it lagged the shit outta the echs bawx.

NakeyJakey *Floodgates Opening* My experience with Halo was primarily through my big bro and his pals. since we didn't have an Xbox we had to use our friends. and since i was the little brother. i was delegated to an excited spectator (but thats ok, i was just happy to be there) and I watched as they tore through the first Halo, going Coop together and playing Slayer. whenever I got a turn it was Solo & on easy. It wasn't until I bought an old second hand Xbox from a garage sale one day with Halo 1 on disc that I truly got hands on with the game. The game itself, pretty damn awesome. making you feel like a kickass super warrior going up against all odds. but in retrospect the best time I had with Halo. was me and my Brother trying to get through the whole thing on Legendary. it was like an epic challenge. It would get so intense as he might get killed and I had to frantically take cover or kill some challenging enemy to get him to respawn. I have countless memories of us trying different strategies to beat a level, what secrets and glitches we could find. AH it was amazing.
Halo 2 had only been experienced in glimpses & momentary exitement at friends places, until me, my bro and one of his pals started renting it from the local video store. and we would spend hours chasing down rumors, playing Zanzibar, looking for easter eggs. the most vivid memories were hunting for the soccer ball on Metropolis. which besides the Scarab must be why i remember it so much. we spent HOURS trying to grenade jump up to where that soccer ball was.
I never got around to Halo 3, nor Halo 4. I have played them but only in singular levels or only for a few moments. but they will never hold the sentimental value of Halo 1 and Halo 2 because those games bonded me and my brother together, provided me with joy and excitement and inspiration for years to come. They were one of my first Gaming loves & I will never forget them.
Also I really loved getting an energy sword in a level and only using that the rest of the level, even when it ran out of energy you could lunge a little bit and beat people to death and i was sadistic like that.

there's another way to get it that doesn't take as much time
when your at the very end of the mission on the walkways, position the small box in the right location and shoot a rocket in the right place and it'll launch you all the way up to where it is

Spent literally hours trying to get the banshee without it flying away and there were no youtube walkthroughs and tutorials so I was going off rumours and thinking "am I even in the right tunnel?" Deathpool fun fact: when halo 2 first came out it was shit on (mainly due 2 campaign ending) but due to the overwhelming multiplayer community and fun gameplay, this turned out to have one of the longest fps lifespans ever. six yeras i believe before they shut they shut down the multiplayer
The fact you played as the Arbiter was also hated on.
Not because he sucks, but because Halo 2 was heavily marketed as Chief saving the Earth. So as with Halo 5's marketing campaign, many fans felt salty due to misleading marketing.

I'd say it's a tie between Halo 3 and halo 2 because they are both so freaking beautiful. with that awe inspiring music, and Blue theme overlaying everything. I wish they would just go back go that style of menu.

It was ahead of it's time. Features like the Clan system still haven't been used in other games, and the proximity voice chat and post game lobbies made for some legendary trash talk.

If you guys want an even deeper look into Halo 2's Devolpment, specifically the multiplayer, I HIGHLY recommend IGN's IGN live stream for MCC and their Podcast Unlcoked episode 168: Both of them feature Max Hoberman, who more or less singlehandedly made Halo 2's multiplayer and Networking, and both of those are amazing interviews that go into an insane amount of depth on both of those subjects.
My friends and I started online gaming with halo. We had a clan, did montages, designed our emblem and printed stickers of it. Although these years are long over and no one of us plays xbox anymore, this was by far my best multiplayer experience to this date. I owe a substantial amount of my childhood memories to Bungie

Hey, I loved Halo 1 and Halo 3...... but Halo 2 is definitely the best of the bunch.

That’s because the time spent playing between Halo 2 and the release of GoW1 felt like an eternity. Time slowed down when playing that game.

6:40 I have to agree. One thing I liked about him compared to Master Chief was that he could turn invisible. That was way cooler than having a built-in flashlight for the Black Button on the Original Xbox Controller.

Halo 4 was terrible. The story was.... disappointing and the multiplayer really went in the wrong direction. Halo was my number one all time-best-most-fun game ever and Halo 4 made me never regret my switch to PC gaming. I hear Halo 5's pretty good though, so that's nice.

This brought back some serious nostalgia feelings. I spent so much of my teen years playing the Halo trilogy with my cousins. We played it so much that my bought another xbox and copy of the game, so we could have our own dedicated server to not have to deal with cheaters or lag issues. Later learning that Steve Vai was involved with the soundtrack for Halo 2 made it even sweeter.
First time I've watched a YT video expecting to watch the next in the series, just to find out it hasn't been made yet.

Speaking of title screens, Spec Ops: The Line. That title screen is pretty awesome. It changes over the course of the game.
The main screen piano music gave me goosebumps. So many memories brought back instantly. Imagine playing the 2nd mission for the 1st time again. Load up marines!

Halo 2 is probably my favorite in the series. I remember me and a friend finding a glitch that made it so we could bring our banshees into the final boss room through riding against a wall to trigger a cut scene.

Man, I love these kind of video game analysis videos. I wish Dunkey would do more of them too. Stuff like the pay phone marketing campaign they did just don't happen anymore. The story, the gameplay, the multiplayer, the MAP DESIGN were all pushing the limit. Fun glitches like sword canceling, super bouncing, BXR-ing, rocket jumping, made the game even more badass even if the dev team didn't intend it. Plus all the easter eggs they added like the hidden skulls, being able to jump on top of campaign maps and manipulate checkpoints (like IWTBYD), the Scarab Gun, hidden weapons, etc really makes me appreciate the work that went into it. Halo 2 was a masterpiece. I still remember going over to my one friend's house who had Xbox Live and shitting my pants over how awesome it was. As well as melee-ing random boxes across the level to build a makeshift base for IWTBYD. NOSTALGIAAAA
I think this game is more eternal than Combat Evolved. The battle rifle is the best thing to happen the FPS genre and the multiplayer was easily the best on that generation of consoles.
dahalofreeek still prefer the dmr personal preference just a long range precision guy BR is more of a midrange weapon that can dip into long range (tho H2 has plenty of cross mapping.)

This video hit me with nostalgia hard enough for me to walk over to my town's pawn shop today to see if they had a copy. They did. It still had an unused two-month trial of Xbox Live in the case. It cost me $5. I'm having a blast, even if I can't play on the Halo 2 servers anymore.

Person. Ohhh I do, lmao I'm always playing H2 classic whenever I have time on mcc. I just meant how different things are now, and that people growing up in the dlc generation missed out on something special.

I'm aware of this, dlc has been around way before that if you want to talk about quake mission packs, what I mean when I say "dlc generation" for example would be how Ea battlefront comes out at launch, basically an unfinished mediocre attempt of a game, with season passes and planned dlc already in the works, when battlefront 2 from 2005 released on launch, with 10x the amount of content, or in other words a full game. You don't see major games come out anymore that are complete on launch, so that's what I mean when I say dlc generation, sorry for the confusion m8.
My favourite title screen is Gungriffon Blaze on the Ps2
The tragedy of war captured in a somber moment of rain drops on a burnt out mech with an emotional piano, and a haunting monk-chanting like synth. Gets me everytime and stands in complete contrast to the frantic action under bright sunlight the game's levels offer.

It came out on my birthday. I was 19 on that day. By far the greatest Halo and multiplayer game ever. To this day. The way it brought everyone together. Go in and out of Lobby’s as a group. I wish I could go back to that time. Relive those gaming moments with my friends. We’d all play together and it brought people together that normally wouldn’t talk or hang out. I’ve never had as much fun playing Halo 2 as I did with any other game.

This game really molded a friendship I had as a child. My friend and I would play this game over and over again, trying different difficulties and strategies.

I spent my entire childhood playing Halo 3 custom game lobbies. I remember the maps on foundry call ''Trash Shoot," "Fat Boy," and my favorite "Left4Dead." There was also maps called "bridge," "Jenga," and "Duck Hunting."

These videos are the fucking best. Please do one on H4 and H5, so I can show the combined two minutes of boring information those useless titles provided to people who say "Bungie sucks", because all they know from Bungie that they've actually experienced first-hand is Destiny, and because DLC sucks nowadays, they resort to saying "Oh, Bungie made you pay for extra content where 343 doesn't, it's *FREE*", although the free DLC is unpolished bs that should have been there in the first place. I guess that's just another blueprint Bungie set that 343 will takes years to understand...

Believe me, there are some people that choose to be blind of Bungie's past work and they only focus on Destiny, and associate all of their thoughts of Bungie, regarding Destiny... Sad but true.
Nice video! Most of our friends have been playing since Grade 8, and this seriously brings back some memories. Heavy Price Paid is easily my favorite song in the series, I would leave that menu on for hours while doing homework or using the computer. Thanks for the feature too, after not posting anything in a couple years, that was really cool to stumble upon.

i'm watching these video because i started playing reach on PC and wanted to learn more about the old games. you got me feeling nostalgic for something i never experienced...
I always shed a tear every time I see that broken Halo ring in the first cutscene, it goes so perfectly with the beautiful soundtrack. Now it's 1000x better with the anniversary cutscenes.
I remember back in the early 2000's my cousin had a copy of Halo 2 and we would do co-op campaign. Since we just wanted to jump straight into the action, we would always skip the cutscenes, so when we were first introduced to the Arbiter, we thought it was Master Chief disguised as an Elite. But now knowing what the human anatomy is capable of, and actually exeriencing the full extent of the game, Im glad its two different characters.
Dude these videos are incredible. As a big time old school Halo player, a more hardcore one, these videos are just refreshing. You talk about certain things and I can tell you get Halo, you get why it was so great and what it meant to so many people. Looking forward to the third one (even though it's my least favorite of the trilogy).
