Or if you categorized all settings, you get little less confusing layout. None of them worked for you, just scatter every feature to system, and it's absolute worst.
Fewer clicks, and it has to be clear *what and how to click* as well. That's what makes Xbox UI so shit: having different sized components makes it less clear how an adjacent move to a smaller component will actually behave
If you consider a scroll to be equivalent to a click (which it is for the most part) then categorizing both reduces the number of clicks between you and the features of the app as well as reducing confusion. Basically youre both right.

I'll admit console on screen keyboards have never been great but with PS ones you can get pretty quick once you get used to it. I actually found the PS3 keyboard more user friendly than the ps4 one although the new one isn't completely terrible.
I miss the old PS3 store more than anything. It was faster, prettier, had different colored themes based on the seasons or holidays instead of just "black and gray theme" 24/7. Even the sound tones for selecting or going back sounded way better. Plus, no straight line keyboard that takes ages to load.

There's a place of pain and misery in hell for the people who create unnecessary UI changes. The reason why sites like youtube, whatever the fuck snapchat is, facebook and so on often go through some stupid interface changes that are often really bad is because they have a website/graphic designer on their payroll. As a regular. Those folks have to make a change every now and then to not get fired for doing nothing. Most commonly they just hire a bunch of idiots to do changes temporarily, but the regulars do this also. These same people make things awful on purpose and then do a "fix" to it later. Even then they do not make it fully complete or "good". For example remember how fucking long people had to ask for a dark theme for youtube? Years. Literal years. The reason why it wasn't updated instantly despite taking exactly 6 seconds of coding time, is because its not smart to do all the work in one go when you are doing that job. You do tiny, minor improvements here and there. When you have made too much progress, you create some awful new update and then incrementally fix it later, but not completely. No, never completely! These are the people that will forever burn in hell while browsing the interwebs of hell, using an irritating, constantly changing interface that seems to get worse and worse all the time. On that note. Please look forward to the upcoming unannounced changes to youtube in 2019. Features nobody asked for. Things that only make youtube more irritating and so on. It'll happen whenever the lazy hacks there need their next paycheck. Then they'll update the site again. Steady mobile users might have already noticed a few changes as of late. I miss the old Windows 7/Windows XP interface because it looked neat and it was simple to navigate. In Windows 10, it makes you go through loads of menus with a shitty, boring interface.
I think the Nintendo Switch UI is fantastic honestly. It shows you some stuff when you start it up, you press the button a couple of times, and bam, you're in, nothing but games in your face. Then at the bottom, you've got your news, eshop, settings, and so on, and at the top you can see your profile settings. Simple. Fast. Efficient. Not obnoxious. Perfect.
The Memessiah I read a review of the console that mentioned the UI was missing some extra flair and got mad because that’s exactly the point of a good UI. It should just give you what you want, no clutter

That's not really the reason its great tho. Its easy and quick to find exactly what you want. You want a stimpack, go to consumables. Change guns? Go to weapons. Want some drugs? Consumables.

But the execution is where I have an issue, there were a lot of redundancies, and instead of utilizing the box-tab design to streamline navigation, they formatted it in a cumbersome fashion. Fallout 3/New Vegas introduced my favorite UI style, the Pip-Boy. An Immersive, in-game menu, with a combat substitute, stat chart, inventory, map, and radio built in. Very easy to use.
The best UI imo are all the last generation consoles...the wii ps3 and xbox 360...they were just perfect imo they had enough info on the screen without it feeling overlycomplicated or time-consuming
Snapchat was on the brink of being the greatest social media app ever then took a complete nose dive into the dirt when they decided to go and fuck everything up. User experience matters.
There is one thing that annoys me about Netflix - when they display a show at the top of the screen that looks interesting and I go "oh gee what's that about" and try to read the description it usually just randomly disappears so that I can see the trailer better. No way that I can tell to get it back.
What bothered me about netflix was the constantly autoplaying trailers. Browsing the app felt like tossing around a hot potato cause if you lingered too long on a certain thing you'd be blasted with stock explosion sound effects at full volume. Can't read the synopsis cause it's red text on a shifting (but usually black) background. Have it embedded in muscle memory to instantly pause channel trailers too for the same reason.
I sit a little far away from my TV and sometimes use my PC to charge my controller while I play. I'll be having a good time and want to skip a song on Spotify or something and all of a sudden I get scared shitless by that noise. I must have gone into Big Picture Mode dozens of times and none of those times were intentional.

That auto renewal option being tucked away on some website that you have to access using a PC is just pure evil. They made it as confusing as possible so people wouldn't find it. The Xbox One UI sucks in general, too. Takes me hours to find anything and all the tiles are so huge you never get a clear view of all your games. You'd think the people that make Windows would know how to design a user friendly UI but then Windows 8 happened and the Xbox One got the same thing, but they never updated it even though Windows 10 now exists.

Club Penguin was even worse tbh(I know it was owned by Disney). My brother bought the premium membership and I turned off the auto renewal, but we still got charged, so we removed the card from the file and Disney still charged us somehow, so my parents had to get a new card, so not surprised Microsoft would also be pulling some BS like this.
Finally someone who speaks about the Xbox One's horrible user interface. I work as a game designer and have to work with Xbox One devkits, and I curse about their bad user interface almost on a daily basis. We all do. I just don't understand how they could mess it up so badly. The interface of the PS4 and Nintendo Switch, in comparison, are so much better, cleaner and more responsive.

As an Xbox One user I completely agree. The only screen that looks nice is the first screen where all your recent stuff is. Well it used to. I liked it when you went home you could still see the game you were playing, now it'd just the logo. Half the screen is stuff your friends did that you don't care about. The UI is extremely slow. It takes over 2 minutes to just load the Microsoft store. Settings will rarely load when you click on them. It just tells you an error has occurred. Not to mention that there is so much text everywhere and so many squares that you just feel overwhelmed with stuff.
Also not to mention the fucking ads that waste all the space. And Mixer, the streaming service they nobody cares about. I have an xbox one s, and i really wish i could sell it if i didn't already buy games for it.. i agree with all your points.

I remember when the TH-cam TV app got updated to get an alphabetical keyboard instead of a QWERTY one and I still can't get over wondering about who thought that was a good idea.
I remember when this video came out. I'm now a UX/UI designer and I come back to this video every once in a while because you are so on point with everything. Part of my learning was understanding how dog shit the UX/UI is in different programs, apps, sites and devices.
GT5 Menu was easy to use, this guy doesn't have an idea on shit in that regard. Once you got used to it after an hour or two you were doing things quickly and there were even buttons you could use to quickly get to your garage etc.
GT Menu UI look and feels more optimized for Keyboard & Mouse users than controllers. But it wasn't until Grand Turismo Sport came to play and I'm in love with the style and presentation. And navigating the menu actually works well with the controller.
Had the same problem, except I couldn't open anything including games. Tech support didn't know how to fix it and the country I live in doesn't give any type of warranty for it. Had to throw it away. (I even tried resetting it multiple times)

There's a place of pain and misery in hell for the people who create unnecessary UI changes.
The reason why sites like youtube, whatever the fuck snapchat is, facebook and so on often go through some stupid interface changes that are often really bad is because they have a website/graphic designer on their payroll. As a regular.
Those folks have to make a change every now and then to not get fired for doing nothing. Most commonly they just hire a bunch of idiots to do changes temporarily, but the regulars do this also. These same people make things awful on purpose and then do a "fix" to it later. Even then they do not make it fully complete or "good".
For example remember how fucking long people had to ask for a dark theme for youtube? Years. Literal years. The reason why it wasn't updated instantly despite taking exactly 6 seconds of coding time, is because its not smart to do all the work in one go when you are doing that job. You do tiny, minor improvements here and there. When you have made too much progress, you create some awful new update and then incrementally fix it later, but not completely. No, never completely!
These are the people that will forever burn in hell while browsing the interwebs of hell, using an irritating, constantly changing interface that seems to get worse and worse all the time.
On that note. Please look forward to the upcoming unannounced changes to youtube in 2019. Features nobody asked for. Things that only make youtube more irritating and so on. It'll happen whenever the lazy hacks there need their next paycheck. Then they'll update the site again.

I miss the old Windows 7/Windows XP interface because it looked neat and it was simple to navigate. In Windows 10, it makes you go through loads of menus with a shitty, boring interface.
I think the Nintendo Switch UI is fantastic honestly. It shows you some stuff when you start it up, you press the button a couple of times, and bam, you're in, nothing but games in your face. Then at the bottom, you've got your news, eshop, settings, and so on, and at the top you can see your profile settings.
Simple. Fast. Efficient. Not obnoxious. Perfect.

That's not really the reason its great tho. Its easy and quick to find exactly what you want. You want a stimpack, go to consumables. Change guns? Go to weapons. Want some drugs? Consumables.

Fallout 3/New Vegas introduced my favorite UI style, the Pip-Boy. An Immersive, in-game menu, with a combat substitute, stat chart, inventory, map, and radio built in. Very easy to use.

There is one thing that annoys me about Netflix - when they display a show at the top of the screen that looks interesting and I go "oh gee what's that about" and try to read the description it usually just randomly disappears so that I can see the trailer better. No way that I can tell to get it back.
I hate shit like that. Everything that takes control away from the user in such a way infuriates me, because it's completely unnecessary.
What bothered me about netflix was the constantly autoplaying trailers. Browsing the app felt like tossing around a hot potato cause if you lingered too long on a certain thing you'd be blasted with stock explosion sound effects at full volume. Can't read the synopsis cause it's red text on a shifting (but usually black) background.
Have it embedded in muscle memory to instantly pause channel trailers too for the same reason.

6 years later, an issue I’m finding with Hulu is clicking continue watching on an episode I’m halfway through or further, and it just restarts the episode
That auto renewal option being tucked away on some website that you have to access using a PC is just pure evil. They made it as confusing as possible so people wouldn't find it. The Xbox One UI sucks in general, too. Takes me hours to find anything and all the tiles are so huge you never get a clear view of all your games. You'd think the people that make Windows would know how to design a user friendly UI but then Windows 8 happened and the Xbox One got the same thing, but they never updated it even though Windows 10 now exists.

My brother bought the premium membership and I turned off the auto renewal, but we still got charged, so we removed the card from the file and Disney still charged us somehow, so my parents had to get a new card, so not surprised Microsoft would also be pulling some BS like this.

Finally someone who speaks about the Xbox One's horrible user interface. I work as a game designer and have to work with Xbox One devkits, and I curse about their bad user interface almost on a daily basis. We all do. I just don't understand how they could mess it up so badly. The interface of the PS4 and Nintendo Switch, in comparison, are so much better, cleaner and more responsive.

The only screen that looks nice is the first screen where all your recent stuff is. Well it used to.
I liked it when you went home you could still see the game you were playing, now it'd just the logo. Half the screen is stuff your friends did that you don't care about.
The UI is extremely slow. It takes over 2 minutes to just load the Microsoft store. Settings will rarely load when you click on them. It just tells you an error has occurred.
Not to mention that there is so much text everywhere and so many squares that you just feel overwhelmed with stuff.
Also not to mention the fucking ads that waste all the space. And Mixer, the streaming service they nobody cares about. I have an xbox one s, and i really wish i could sell it if i didn't already buy games for it.. i agree with all your points.

GT5 Menu was easy to use, this guy doesn't have an idea on shit in that regard. Once you got used to it after an hour or two you were doing things quickly and there were even buttons you could use to quickly get to your garage etc.
GT Menu UI look and feels more optimized for Keyboard & Mouse users than controllers.
But it wasn't until Grand Turismo Sport came to play and I'm in love with the style and presentation. And navigating the menu actually works well with the controller.

Had the same problem, except I couldn't open anything including games. Tech support didn't know how to fix it and the country I live in doesn't give any type of warranty for it. Had to throw it away. (I even tried resetting it multiple times)
