    I was diagnosed 3 months ago at age 32. I still struggle with real connection with anyone, so I don't even try anymore. Can't wait to watch your whole channel and to just feel like I'm not alone.

    I’ve already watched a handful of your videos (and much enjoyed them!) so I’ve come back to the start to make my way through properly and just wanted to say, I really find these videos immensely relatable, it’s a real sense of relief! If I’d found these videos sooner, I’m not sure I’d have bothered making my own 😂

    Thank you for making me feel included. For making me giggle because these are the EXACT things that go through my head and have for years not that I would tell anyone that. Now I’m working through getting a diagnosis for my daughter also so she doesn’t have to be broken. So we can adjust things for her so she doesn’t have to feel the way I have for my entire life not knowing why. So thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!

    Just want to say thanks for doing this. You provide a unique voice for people who have autism who isn't research or academic focused. You're practical and down to earth. I wish I could be as genuine as you.

    • @AdultwithAutism

      Thanks Collin, really appreciate that! That's the plan, try to be real and see where it ends up! I am going to do a video in the future of 'why' I decided to do these in the first place with a bit more depth so other people can understand why more people like me don't make them. Hopefully you can keep an eye out for it, as I think it'll be important to show why people like me are not as represented on here.

    Hi Paul! Thanks for making these videos. I'm 58 and have just discovered that I am most probably autistic. I don't think I can deal with pursuing a diagnosis. I am gearing myself up to talk to my GP about this though, because my anxiety levels are affecting my health. I've had 3 CT scans within the last year and a half. The results keep saying nothing is wrong. So maybe I do need a diagnosis. And I so don't want to go have to talk to someone that keeps asking me 'how does that make you feel?' Just the idea of that diagnosis process fills me with anxiety. Guess I'm just going to try and talk to my GP and see if her response makes me feel better or worse. Here I go again, swirling and twirling...

    • @AdultwithAutism
      @AdultwithAutism  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Chris, no worries.
      If I had to go through the process again, I would do. But only because it's helped me in the long run over the short term anxieties over it.
      But like you say, nothing wrong with having a chat with a GP either way.

Every day that I don’t hear from the NHS adds more pressure to confirmation of what I already know. Crazy but until I receive confirmation, I feel like a fraud. Hello "brother" I'm also old and autistic, and I have done some dumb shit in my life for not knowing myself better.
    And I also have been planning to launch a TH-cam very soon. I only have a diagnose of ADHD and spent a load of money on it for nothing, they couldn't see through my masks and get to the underlying autism. It was a later deep dive into TH-cam that made me figure it out all by myself. I will only come back to the psy people if I need the paper saying that I'm autistic or to get some drugs*.

    Hi Paul!
    I didn’t start by watching this video first, but now I’m gonna watch them all. Almost every sentence you uttered I could quote here and say “Jesus Mary Josef and the donkey - YES!”
    The second I leave home for example; I’ve been trying to explain that to people when they say, step out of your comfort zone. Like, you have no idea I do that every single day of my life by just having to walk outside and there’s…PEOPLE there😳😆
    And your reaction to the dr: “wow, you have no idea what type of school I went to”.
    Yeah, welcome to the growing up in the 70’s and 80’s and what the school I went to was like😂
    For better and for worse I guess, compared to how I perceive schools are today.
    The only thing you said where I’m completely the opposite is that I wanna know EVERYTHING about a subject, every subject that I come in contact with or someone’s talking to me about. I NEED to understand and not just superficially but I wanna start from the beginning or origin of it so I can grasp what it’s about. Yeah that’s why I need at least two or three lifetimes, one lifetime can’t possibly be enough to learn even a small percentage of what I wanna know. Also I forget everything I’ve learned after a while, so there’s that…my memory is terrible.
    Sorry I’m blabbering now aren’t I. And now I’m considering deleting everything I wrote lol. Anyway, just very happy you got on YT. You’re so funny and that’s awesome!
    Cheers

    Great video, I do have OOOOONE thing to saw about a few seconds of it.
    A a black American seeking a diagnosis I have to pause the video at the BLM remark, because you may not have all of the information aside from the optics. The BLM movement is a decentralized idea, and any organization that calls itself BLM would be a lot like me getting on youtube and saying that I represent the autistic community. At it's core, BLM is a movement that is seeking greater accountability in policing, as people of color in America are MUCH more likely to be killed by the police, and a even more likely to be subject to everything from harassment to an ass kicking.
    I'll share one of the stories from my own life: I was maybe 21 and had been reading in a book store for the last two hours. I didn't have the money to pick it up at the time, so when the store started to close, I got up, put the book back (in PRESTINE condition I might add, no book gore by MY hands, no SIR!), and walked to the front of the store, and out the front door. There were two cops waiting, one male, the other female, and the lady cop asks if I had just gone from the back of the store to the front. I answer in the affirmative and she then proceeds to tell me that her partner had seen me slashing tires in the parking garage. I inform them I'd been in the store for the past 2 hours. They say they need to pat me down for a knife, and considering I didn't have one on me, I was like sure ok whatever. Only halfway through a very uncomfortable, unneeded invasion of my privacy and body, I realize I should have told them about the cameras. They didn't find anything, and so they had to let me go on my way.
    Now, if I HAD been carrying a knife of ANY kind, that interaction would have gone MUCH worse, and considering that I can legally (if not practically) carry around an AR-15, I'm well within my rights to have a knife. They MAY have gone to look at the footage, but I can almost guarantee that I would have been slapped in cuffs first, and given an ass whooping for "resisting arrest", which often includes attempting to follow conflicting and impossible orders. And that is with me having very light skin from both being "biracial" and living like a vampire, as well as, what I've been told by a million idiots is "a straight white boy voice". I have about as much chance of getting a stray police ass whooping as Steve Erkel, but that shield is THIIIIIIN.
    Now does that give people the right to destroy indiscriminately? Hell no, but the people who were doing the MOST wild behavior didn't give a crap about George Floyd or anyone else, they just wanted to break shit. If I show up with 100 friends with signs and 100 more show up just to break stuff, is my protest peaceful? Or has the bloodlust of the NT hoard negated my own voice raised in peace?
    Either, way, I'm gonna keep watching your vids, because I think you just lack the information about it and you were making an observation from an outside in perspective.
    Cheers mate.

    • @AdultwithAutism
      @AdultwithAutism  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Take what I say with a pinch of salt, it was a throw away comment based only to irk the people who 'fight' for the wrong reasons who you reference. Some people just jump on with no idea or want to represent the right reason in the right way. Burning down black owned businesses and screaming how much you hate white people just does nothing for the cause, and that type of racist idiot needs to stay home and either educate themselves or stay ignorant and our of sight.
      I've also had several run ins with the police over things I wasn't involved in or absolutely was not my fault and was dealt with very poorly or blamed, so I can sympathise with that feeling. One of them was entirely racially driven.
      I was in an area of the UK where the population is mostly Asian. I stopped to ask two men if they knew where a particular building was. They walked over, hit me threw the window and tried to steal from my car boot.
      I got out the car and they carried on trying to attack me. I defended myself and fought back and won, but the police were called and it was four Asian officers who responded. They pinned me (even though I didn't resist) and put me in handcuffs straight away before saying anything. They then spoke to the Asian men in their native tongue so I had no idea what they were saying.
      I was roughly taken in and wasn't allowed to give my side of the story at all, and was prosecuted by the Police.
      Maybe one day I'll do a full video based around similar topics and what I've been involved in, who knows!
      That will allow people to make more accurate judgements on me if they wish to do so 👍🏻

    • @LunarGlowMedia
      @LunarGlowMedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdultwithAutism No judgement here mate, just my perspective. BLM is a HOT button in the US right now, so if you live in the US any mention of it is going to provoke one of two (primarily) responses, and they're both emotionally charged.
      It really sucks that you've had such a rough go, and your experience of racism is completely valid. I've never bought that idea that minorities can't be racist. It can often be a "now who has the power?" thing, and it's disgusting. I know a lot of black folk who hate white folk because they blame the whole group for the sins of the few.
      People don't like people who are different. I think that's one thing all autistic people are intensely aware of, no matter who you are.

    • @LunarGlowMedia
      @LunarGlowMedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To further add to the context, saying Black Lives Matter is a lot like saying "support the troops" or "save the bees". I'm sure there are organizations for those sole purposes, but if a radical eco terror group called "bees with bombs" or something blows up a chemical plant or something, you don't assume that grandma with the beehive in her back yard is hiding C4. BLM has good actors, bad actors and clueless actors, just like every group of people large enough to have their will consumed by the ideology.
      Edit: and by group I mean a collection of humans with a similar trait/goal in mind. This does not imply cooperation or coordination.

    • @AdultwithAutism
      @AdultwithAutism  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True true. I don't know too much about what's happening in the US, but over here we have a lot of rich upper class elite white kids saying 'all white people are racist', and I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it is.
      Idiots come in all forms. I'd just rather have a small quiet corner of the Internet to sit in with other like minded people to talk to about my mindset based off life and see where it gets us.
      Hope all is well your end 👍🏻
