    Thank you for the video. Very helpful for Pentax manual lens users. I have been using manual lenses with my K10D and now my K-5II. This is one of the clearest explanations of the setup process I seen. Nice job.

    i have an old cosina 50mm manual lens .... this video was extremely helpful ...as i dont have to waste my time correcting the exposure in post process ...the camera does that by itself ...thankyou so much

    You can also set the camera to "Catch-In-Focus" and AF.S, then you just hold down the shutter button and turn the focus ring, when the subject comes into focus the camera will snap a picture.

    Using Green button as Av Shift is a great tips for using old manual lenses. It works great for my Pentax-M lens for metering without taking picture and try and error. Thanks.

    Hi. Do you have any suggestions for operating Pentax lenses with an Aperture ring? I have recently got one and am battling to get the lens to focus. When i first got the camera I eventually got the lens to work. I have since then used another lens on the camera. I've attached this 320mm lens back onto the camera and have followed the instructions by the book (Manual) but it still won't focus.
    If you have any suggestions that may help with using the lens with Aperture ring, please let me know.
    Thank you

    THANK U!! I just bought the Pentax k70 because I knew I was able to use my dads old lens with it. I don't know why sometimes I get double exposures with the old len and new body. I've learned that I need to look at the photo taken then go out of that mode and back to taking the photos. weird

    • @PrimeStudios
      @PrimeStudios  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the K-70 has a multiple exposure mode. You may want to check to see if that mode is turned on in your menu system.

  • @bigpardner
    @bigpardner 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With the k2000/Km it's the same except there is no green button, you depress the +/- button. You also don't do the procedure starting at 0:50, going into "e-dial programming" because it's not available and therefore not neccessary.

    I have a Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7 which I use on my full frame Pentax K1 and my apc Pentax K7.
    On both cameras I can use the lense's A setting to get auto and aperture modes recognised in the camera body.
    I've never been totally impressed by what the hype said about this lenses performance.
    Is there some adjustment to micro calibrate the fully focused indicator system for manual focus lenses, as my eyesight is probably not as good as it once was?

    • @PrimeStudios
      @PrimeStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know there is a calibration for autofocus on those cameras, but I don't know if it effects the manual focus assist.
      You could run some tests: setting the auto focus adjust to an extreme setting, applying that to all lenses, then use a manual lens with the focus assist system and see if it shows the same big change in where it says focus should be. Just don't forget to recalibrate your focus once your done testing.

    Seems to be different on the K1-II. It measures the exposure but without stopping down the lens. It doesn't even stop down the lens when shooting, so the lens can only be used at full aperture. I tried this with two K mount lenses, a Vivitar 70-210 and a Takumar 35mm. They both have an aperture ring without the 'A' position.
    Anyone out there with a K1-II who managed to get manual lenses to work properly with the K1-II?
    On the K-3 and K-30 that I also have both lenses work just fine as described in this video.

    • @PrimeStudios
      @PrimeStudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The specific details of exactly which lenses work on the K-1 Mark 2 appear to be on pages 109 through 112 of the instruction manual.

    • @listerdave1240
      @listerdave1240 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, in fact that is where I first noticed this problem but I thought I misunderstood it and then tried it out and confirmed what I feared. Note 10 says that Av will shoot with the aperture wide open regardless of the setting of the aperture ring, elsewhere it says that P/Sv/Tv/Av/Tav modes will all actually work as Av, meaning in effect that all the auto modes work as Av and leave the diaphragm fully open while shooting. If that was all it would be no problem as one would probably be shooting in manual anyway with such lenses.
      The problem is that even in Manual mode the diaphragm is remaining wide open which means that the diaphragm cannot be used and all photos will be shot wide open. The table doesn't actually state this saying only the operation is 'restricted' without specifying what such restriction may be. There is just a'#' in the table meaning 'restricted'.
      On page 111 it seems like it might be saying that but it is not clear at all, at least not to me. Ultimately though I have tried it and it is just like that, the diaphragm does not close at all during the exposure, even with the aperture ring on F22.
      Since the manual remains ambiguous to me about this I'm wondering if maybe someone else can try on their K1-ii to see if this is how it actually works or else maybe something is wrong with my K1-i or I'm doing something wrong.
      It is a bit disappointing because I was hoping to use some manual lenses in full frame but it seems I'll have to fall back to my K-30 or K-3 to use them if I want to use them at any aperture other than full open. On those two cameras it works perfectly as you described in the video. On the K-3 not so unfortunately.

    Does this work with non fixed focal length

    • @PrimeStudios
      @PrimeStudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but I think the metadata will only show one focal length; whatever you put into the camera when you put the lens on. Also, you may need to mess with lens distortion compensation in editing if you notice it looks funky.

    The new Pentax K-50, can it accept the older manual lenses from Pentax film cameras?

    • @PrimeStudios
      @PrimeStudios  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as long as they are also K-Mount lenses. So basically any Pentax lens made after 1975. The process should be very similar to what you see in this video.

    • @mashersmasher
      @mashersmasher 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @rebelcharlie
      @rebelcharlie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that if you set your SMC-A lens to the A setting it will behave as a modern lens and you will be able to set your aperture on the aperture dial directly on the camera body. Your SMC-M lenses will work as described in this video.
