- Weather-resistant cameras, just how long are those weather seals good for? I put it to the test with a Pentax K10D, can it (and me) survive repeated exposures to the rain?

If you are fed up waiting for rain, then welcome to Scotland where we are fed up waiting for the sun.
Pentax cameras built like tanks 👍
The old K10D can still get it done. I've not tested my K10D in the rain because when I used it regularly I didn't have any weather resistant lenses. My regular camera is the Pentax K-5II. I've been out in rain with that camera and the DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR zoom lens. No issues. Pentax cameras are built like a tank. Superb feel and good grip.
I watched a video many (at least 12) years ago on the Digital Rev TV channel whereby he absolutely tortured a couple of (non weather sealed) DSLRs with regards to moisture ingress. It seems from that video that they're more resistant than expected. It was one part of a series of 'torture tests' including heat, extreme cold and physical durability. The results were astonishing. Definitely worth a look if the videos are still out there.
Will have to see if I can track that video down
Hellow, i have this camera from 2008 , resist the south of Chile, the dirth and the moisture of the Atacama desert, Working well at 5000 meters in Cordillera de los Andes, a littlecamera build for bring your quality for many years, congratulations a brave video, best regards from a corner of the world; Santiago Chile
Many thanks, and great to hear it survives Chile.
My Pentax K3-11 & 16-50WR SDM & 55-300 PLM WR work fine in the rain with no problems
Great video! I been using the K10D since 2006 and it’s still going strong. I haven’t put it through its paces like you have in this video, but it’s nice to know it can survive some light misting! 😂
I suffered for the science, a light misting will not phase it at all.
I must say I am actually more impressed by the quality of the photos coming from the 18-55 kit lens. Is it better than normal kit lenses?
The standard Pentax 18-55 is a pretty solid performer, but the weather sealed version does take up a notch and is excellent value for money.
Pentax cameras and weather seale lens are bullet proof.
Great colour in your images. My first DSLR was a Pentax KR and loved it.
Many thanks.
Good idea to test this with a second hand camera and to share your findings.
Many thanks
