  • The First Part of a Series of Videos on my All-in-One High Voltage Switchmode DC-DC Power Supply Design for Tube based Projects (not only of course :-)). Powered from a Beefy 12V 83A Server PSU, with High Power Outputs and made by using of the Shelf Parts wherever Possible, mostly for the necessary Magnetics, that are always the most cumbersome parts in any Power Supply Design. My goal is to use ready made Switchmode Transformers, to make the Design repeatable.
The first Part of this Series will show:
    1) The Controller Modules I Designed and had them PCBA made at JLCPCB:

    2) The Concept of the PSU and the Preliminary Specifications.
    3) Info's on why I can't use ready-made Ali Express or Ebay Switchmode Modules.

Thanks Konstantin, great explanation of the issues around isolation and current sensing. Your second sheet has *LowSide* Current Sense in the heading on row B of the drawing, like the other examples. For that case I think you mean *HighSide*.

New subscriber. I've been wanting to make a modular PS like this for years. Looking forward to more details in the next videos!

Very nice video. How many videos are you planning on for this project? What kind of tubes are you planning to power with this?
Looks super nice though! Excited to see more here. Thanks!

Hi Jared, Thankyou! I have not made any thoughts yet how many Videos it will in this Series, there will be a video when there is progress, its a general Tube PSU , so not planned any specific Tubes either :-) I will probably use it to power a small 40W Linear Amp with the Tube shown in the Video, the one with 2 top Electrodes (RL12P35) as Part of a Transmitter I call "Frankenmitter" bcs it includes a variety of Technologies of the last 80 Years :-) , Cheers, Konstantin

I made a hv supply for b+ of my diy tube guitar amp & it works great . I used sg3525 ic , i tried using tl494 & it was so noisy i coulnd't use it . I use the input 12 volts as my filament supply ( after extensive filtering ) & the b+ runs at about 300volts 100 watts .i wound my own transformer by hand which wasn't hard , it took me about 1 hour .

Hello, the SG3525 and the TL494 are both Voltage Mode PWM Controllers, with the Difference that the TL494 has 2 Error Amplifiers and needs an external Gate Drivers Circuits that the SG3525 mostly doesn't need. Would be interesting why your TL494 was noisier then the SG3525. Same Frequency ? Same Transformer ? Loop Compensation ? What Topologie ? Pushpull or Flyback. Cheers, Konstantin

@@KonstantinGrigoriadis the tl494 is a current mode regulator , i used a push pul topology for both almost same transformer & fets but diffrent frequencies .i dont remember the exact frequency but it was around 150khz for sg3525.my memory is getting worst but i remeber that the problem was the regulation pulses when the circuit reched the set voltage . My tl494 was applying sharp pulses instead of decreasing the pwm duty & it was difficult to filter it out for my hight gain audio amplifier . I use totem pole driver for the two fets . The feedback is not isolated as i remeber because it didnt matter to me . I'm feeding in 12.6v from a cheap chinese powersupply with lots of filtering.the sg3525 circuit is very similar to 220volt inverter found on the internet .cheers

can you share some transformer finding tips?

Hello, all are from Aliexpress search for EC42 and EC49, cheers, Konstantin
