    Don't you want 2 opto couplers for both voltage and current so that can make distinction on the high voltage driver side? Or is the pwm behaviour always exactly the same for over voltage and over current?

      Hello, no if either the voltage get to high or current get to high the duty cycle will be reduced via the optocoupler and the "ored" diodes. Otherwise if the voltage gets to low, the duty will be increased same goes for current. Of course you could use 2 Optcouplers too but then you would just "or" the Optocoupler transistors instead of the Schottky Diodes.       @KonstantinGrigoriadis my knowledge doesn't reach this far so therefore my comment. One other thing I try to find is to have a smps that is controlled by a microcontroller ie a STM32 but so far no luck except PID controlled SMPS

      What kind of Switchmode PSU are you looking for ? , what Specs ? (except of MCU Controlled), there are many DCDC Converters on ALI that are MCU Controlled.

      @KonstantinGrigoriadis let's start with 20v 3A. Just want to work out how to approach attack this design. I'm sure you can change it to many voltages and current combinations. Ie encountered TI TL594 which is an elegant DC-DC controller.

    just by the accent i actually couldnt tell you were german, even tho im german myself. your "this ding funktioniert" really caught me off guard lol also 10:10 yes, kinda. Class E should have capacitors there... however highly likely that the 185pF Output capacitance of both mosfets are enough to replace those caps! 13:05 ive done that too hehe. surprisingly the classic 74HC14 schmitt inverter is cheaper than any single or dual schmitt inverters you could buy (atleast in smaller quantities). but yeah, the spare inputs should be grounded lol another thing. regarding the 0603 capacitor. the low side of the coil will never have any voltage on it. maybe DC? but the ac frequency is too high, capacitor impedance likely too low. it is an incredibly finnecky system. it does make sense sadly. in a janky way. using two schmitt inverters actually delays the signal by around 14ns. which is enough to cause a small amount of shoot through and being asynchronous. that may be also why the capacitor is there, or why the voltage is limited to 12V with diodes instead of the usual 5V. because the timing resulting from this, atleast at the resonant frequency, will be better than if did with 2 schmitt inverters. also thank you very very much for linking resources in the description, the paper about class E design for plasma applications i actually hadnt come accross yet! its very very good!

    Yes… Altium is ridiculously expensive in my opinion. It’s good, but WAY overpriced. PCBWay is great. Eagle is great, too.

    I bought one such power supply. I plugged it in, started testing it, got to 200 volts and the board died. I only needed it for an experiment. The microchip uc3843 does not last 2 minutes of operation. I'm going to gut the board, keep only the feedback connections for the comparators, leave the power part and graft a tl494. I hope it lasts half an hour to get my work done...

      Hello, with what voltage you powered the Module and what Load you used ? Normally these things work ok when used in their real limits, except if you had faulty module. To use the tl494 it must be configured as a single output for a flyback . The tl494 has no advantage in this circuit as a flyback over the uc3843. The comparators are used for Over voltage and Overcurrent . Cheers, Konstantin

      @@KonstantinGrigoriadis I tried powering a small neon lamp (about 90 volts) through a 1 megohm resistor. The supply voltage of the module was 12 volts. Even the LED indicator on the module burned out. There is supply voltage on the LED pins, but the LED has gone. I have quite a 16 pin tl494, it has built in comparators. If I like the Frankenstein that will result between the TL and the module, I might consider factory pcbs. :)

    why not 3D print them ? yes it will be lower quality then infection moulding but it is doable , especially now with the ability to order online. That piece shouldnt be that hard to design

    nice designs, 1 side assembly and surprisingly compact. I think they used the external switch since that is 1gB while the internal ones are only 100mB and the interconnect is through RGMII. The RF part is interesting since they're would be 2 antennas in parallel if you plug in a external one is that even allowed?

      Yes the internal switch is only 100mbits , as for the rf part, seems the uf.l similar conn is only for test reasons in the factory, an external Antenna can be connected only on the non populated connector footprint.

    Really old design I don't use it at all I use only fet no transistor my favorite design is switch forword the only issue I have with these converter is 120ac don't deliver full wattage of the ferrite core at all only half the wattage any 120 converter will deliver the 240vac deliver fully wattage of the ferrite transformer, I use a large EE5525 ferrite transformer pc40 material the wattage is 3k at fully wattage I only got 890watt from 120 in in bought half bridge and forward converter design but at 240 I get 2890 watt this is something I never hear any one mention on TH-cam at all about volt differences and wattage output you should do a video on this alot of new comers don't know that the low voltage is what causing the low wattage in there converter design

      Hi, this although happens only with PSU's that rely solely on a mains Doubler when powered with 120V and the Input Capacitors are to small to deliver and do not use active PFC. BTW A forward Topology(not even 2 Switch Forward) or even Halfbridge is not nearly specified for 2K8W you mention independent how big the core is! This Wattage is for a FullBridge LLC with Active PFC !!!

      Hello, you mean the Power Transformer is Faulty ? If so, I don't think that you can buy a spare.

    why use resistors in paralel with ferrite beads? also what value and power rating?

      To Lower the Q and dampen the resonant peaking of the system. Resistor I used is 100Ohm 1/4W no more needed because the current Passes the Bead an not the Resistor. The Bead has a XL(impedance) only at a specific frequency, at DC its near Short circuit

      Thankyou! Yes the Top PCB was the First version, where I had it planned differently, the later ones are Sized correctly, but I was to lazy to populate a new one :-)

      As I said , I do Reverse Engineer the PSU, trace the Tracks components and connections of the PCB Board, draw the schematic on Paper fist and after if all looks ok i draw it in Cad. This takes from Hours to Days !

    That's a nice design! Too bad it was scrapped. Did you consider to sell the Raspberry Pi Hat as an individual product? Not sure, what the super secret chip is, but it seems that one could easily substitute it with a Hides IT9517. Do you plan to make a video about your soldering process and which oven you use, by chance? The result looks really good! PS: just bought a THS710A some days ago. Thank you very much for the tip!

      Hello, thankyou! Its a paid design, i cant do anything with the design, evermore it needs the software for the opi or raspi which is copyrighted by the company that gave me the order and a signed nda. Without this custom software it just a paperweight :-) The hats are handsoldered (soldering Iron and Hot Air) the boxed one I used a hot platte. You can upgrade your THS710 to a Higher Model and i have made a 1:1 Dropin led backlight controller to replace the ccfl and also a external battery Charger. Cheers, Konstantin

After you mentioned that you like the THS720 for SMPS design in a previous video, I watched your videos about the great led backlight controller replacement and the charger you made.       Yes in the Video I said Oven, but I meant Hot Plate...I have a T-962A Oven, that I customized and Upgraded (Mechanics, Hardware, Firmware) but I did not liked it, so except of a couple of Tests I never used in reality... Btw. Gerne :-)

      Hello, Unfortunately I did not have much luck with it, even I contacted Benning Directly, they answered me and send me a Document that I already have but that does NOT give any Info's about the Pinout or the Set Protocol.

Please bear in mind that my Design was made for a High Voltage Capacitor tester, hence the Output Capacitor is only 1uF 1KV. You would nee to change that if you need Higher Current.

    Nice reverse engineered schematic! Simple yet very usable as a simple load. It really reminds me of a linear electronic load of my own that i designed and built as my Master's thesis. It created a load sweep to extract I-V curves out of PV panels using a similar arrangement but with tighter tolerances and realtime I and V measurements. It also had a wireless remote touch TFT display to graph and datalog the measurments using a pair of ESP32's talking to each other using ESPNow / active balancing for the Load mosfets / reverse polarity / over voltage-current-power protections etc. and everything was battery powered. Aaahh, sweet times! I wish i could post the schematics here for discussion but youtube doesn't allow it... Καλησπέρα από Θεσσαλονίκη!

      Hi, which ones ? in the video description are links to the parts showed in the Video, if there is not the Current stated, I roughly calculate it based on the wire Diameter.

      @@KonstantinGrigoriadis i checked the links and there was not data on rated current . I was referring to the 3 types of 1MH inductors, there is no data regarding current rating or saturation current.

      Hi, if there is not the Current stated, I roughly calculate it based on the wire Diameter, these are just for testing not for anything serious. Further don't forget that the data given on Ali are mostly not correct....Example the RM6 Power Inductor is stated for 18A at ali, I contacted the Manufacturer and he send me Datasheets where it is only for 12A....This is why I prefer to use it according to my estimates, when there is no serious datasheet available. For wire diam of 0.5 to 0.6mm I estimate ca. 3 to 3.5A, for 0.8 to 1mm ca. 5-6A conservative.

      Hello, yes this can be done by using the dac 0-5v output instead of the 10k VTR potentiometer, cheers

      Hi Bjorn, Yes the Heartsicks are very cheap, but only for medium to low loads. The SMD 12x12 Inductors are made by so many Companies (Würth, Sumida, TDK, Bourns, and many Asian Brands,etc) its just another CN company that makes it :-) These of course from ali I would not use for Prof design.     I believe the DAC architecture is derived from the one described by Jim Williams in Linear Technology AN86. Like always, it is filled with plenty of other intriguing details.
