  • In this Video I show a Design I made back in 2022 out of the necessity to have a Generic TL494/594 Module with a dedicated Onboard MOSFET / IGBT Driver Chip for my further High and Low Voltage Power Supply Designs.
    I made a fast Test mount on a Breadboard, to show you its Functionality on the Scope by utilizing the DTC feature and the Frequency Control. Its a quite small Module that Saves me a lot of real-estate on the Power Supply PCB bcs it's mounted Vertical and of course it saves me Design Time.
    Following Information's about Loop Compensation and General Infos, needed to design the TL494 external Components needed.

    I would very much like a follow-up video using a microcontroller, H-bridge and two (small) stepper motors and a full explanation of that circuit's operations. Thank you.

    Good idea and useful module. I think I'll copy and build a few for fun

    TL598 is my favorite one. It has push-pull outputs.

      Hello, Yes it's a more modern Version of the TL594 with a Better Output Stage and Internal Circuitry that Prohibits Double Pulse at Either Output.

    Nice circuit, never hear of that chip before, but it seems a very handy one.
    Do you have experience with the LR8N3 High Voltage Regulator ? I have them on stock, ordered them a few years back to play with, but not used yet.

      Hi Bjorn, Thankyou. I used the LR8 as a High Voltage Constant Current Source couple Years ago.
      Cheers

    Konstantin, I would like to access the design files for this project or know where I may purchase a few of these if I may, please. Great circuit and clean design. Thank you in advance. Steve

    Konstantin thank you for this demo on a useful circuit! I tend to like stronger drives (TO220) because I'm amateur and burn components hehe. Well I have made a similar board but not so tidy as yours! TL494 is per datasheet Fixed frequency but pin 6 works for setting 40-200kHz, how is that fixed frequency?

    • @KonstantinGrigoriadis
      @KonstantinGrigoriadis  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello Arve, The Osc Frq of the TL494 is set by Pins5 & 6 (CT,RT), and stays Fix during the whole Operation (except if you put a Pot at Pin 6).
      Fixed means, that the Frequency cannot be Controlled/Adjusted Dynamically form the Internal Error Amplifiers. The Integrated Error amplifiers of the TL494 can adjust only the Duty Cycle,
      but NOT the Frequency. There are other Switchmode Controllers that can do both.

      @@KonstantinGrigoriadis ah I see, that explains😀 I think I will be experimenting with H bridges and maybe resonant circuits (convenient with the variable freq. ) I will follow you for sure! All the best / Arve

    I LOVE the TL494, but I UTTERLY HATE that it does not have push pull outputs.
    Some of the GREAT things about it is that it is stable & predictable resulting in easy use.

    • @KonstantinGrigoriadis
      @KonstantinGrigoriadis  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Steven, you can use the TL598 instead that has PushPull outputs and some more feautures, but unfortunately it's not 1:1 pin Cpmpatible. Cheers, Konstantin

      @@KonstantinGrigoriadis Yeah, but I cannot get it for pennies like I can but fake TL494's on AliExpress! :)
      Seriously, it is expensive, way more that other BETTER chips sadly, otherwise I would have hundreds in stock like I have the TL494. ...not fakes! :)
