You NEED to change your TBR7 fork fluid! | 2021 TaoTao TBR7

  • In today's TaoTao tutorial and vlog, Connor shows you how to change the fluid in the forks of your TaoTao TBR7. If you have a TBR7 with the stock fork fluid, you NEED to make this your next maintenance task or modification. The fluid that comes in the stock forks is awful and likely not real fork fluid. In our bike, the forks fluid volume was 25 mL different from factory, which can actually produce unsafe riding conditions.
If you prefer reading and don't want to watch the video, here are the basic steps:
    - Jack your bike up to remove load from the forks
    - Remove the cap at the top of the fork (be careful, these caps are being pushed up by the spring preload)
    - Remove the hex-drive drain screw at the bottom of the fork and drain the fluid into a cheap plastic measuring cup (or random drain pain if you don't care to check what the old fluid level was)
    - Apply teflon tape to the threads of the drain screw
    - Reinstall the drain screw
    - Measure 225 mL of your fork fluid of choice in a measuring cup and pour it into your forks using a funnel to assist
    - Re-install the top cap
    - Repeat with the other fork
    - Double check that your fasteners are tight
    - Lower the bike and feel the difference!

You bet! It is a pretty simple task and it made a big difference for me. Also good for peace of mind knowing you have a high quality fluid in your forks. Let me know if you have any questions when you go for it!

So glad I watched your video just after Motocheese because you did it right by removing the top caps first so the fluid drains easily. He left the caps on and used straps to compress the forks over and over to pump out the fluid. I'll also use Teflon tape because his was leaking from the factory.
I've got the exact same bike as yours and have done a lot of mods. I've set mine up as an adventure bike to do long bike camping trips.

Hey thanks! I always prefer to drain fluids in this fashion when possible. That strap method sounds like a nightmare! I found this way to be incredibly easy and got the job done quickly. Sorry I missed your comment; how is your bike holding up? I haven't been out riding mine much lately, but I need to get back on it. I'd love to see your adventure bike setup, do you have any pictures or videos of it?

@@3PedalDevils I was just riding around Bryce Canyon Utah and had a blast. I have some photos on my Instagram of places I've rode. If you look deeper down you'll find pics of how I set it up for some earlier overnight camping trips. I don't have pictures of it with the hard trunk and side cases yet because I'm actually going to be spending the winter making the racks to sell this Spring. I'm also making engine guards and center stands. I plan to contact everyone on TH-cam and ChinaRiders to help spread the word. I'll probably send out some at cost to get some videos made showing the setup. The rack and 3 hard cases should retail just under $500. Compare that to the lowest price of Tusk that's 3 to 4 times more!

    I honestly feel like the TBR7 250 2021
has the wire harness of a scooter from China i have one & a TBR7 250 2021 i noticed with the lighting. Lol i luv it!

Hahaha it literally does. The connectors are pretty bad but it does the job. The rear plastics and seat looks straight off a moped/scooter if you look at it from the front; pretty funny stuff.

Is it not required to take the forks off the bike to change the fluid?

I didnt see anything in your playlist about the motor oil. Some have said, it needs to be replaced with 10-40 through break in, your thoughts? If so, how long is break in?

    • @3PedalDevils
      @3PedalDevils  2 ปีที่แล้ว

A lot of gear-heads have their own opinions on things and with Tao Motors not publishing an official recommendation, I don't know what the correct answer is here. I'll say that I didn't do anything too special with mine and used Rotella T4 15W-40 oil for all my oil changes so far. I'm at 1900km so far. Sorry I couldn't be more help

I placed my order and the bike arrived at my house 8 days later. Not sure if I got lucky or what, but the estimated time was a few weeks when I bought it

    • @3PedalDevils

I think I used 225mL on both of my forks. I have not been able to find an official capacity for them. When I drained mine from factory, one of mine had 250mL in there and the other was 225mL. I'd think that 250, 250 should work fine for you too. Just get them consistent

2023 TBR7. Do NOT remove that lower drain bolt. You won’t be able to tighten back up. Take forks off and drain!
