You need a performance coil and a iridium spark plug along with that CDI. The gap of stock is around 32 on the spark plug but with performance ignition gap to 38. If the CDI advances timing then you need to run 91-93 octane super unleaded to get full power potential. Next a good full adjustable carb with high flow intake system and open exhaust. I promise you it will be like a different engine was installed. Changing out CDI box without other mods is useless. Those mods I mentioned all work together to create one thing and that's performance. One will not show results without the other....
Definitely! Thanks for the tips! I do have a Nibbi performance coil and an iridium plug on it but can't remember what I set the gap to back then. I've always ran 91-93 in it as well. Going to install a new carb in a few weeks actually, so I should be well on the way. Thanks again for writing this up, a lot of people who see the comment will probably benefit from it!
@@3PedalDevils that california epa box on your exhaust near the head delete it.. it sucks up power and makes a cool popping noise with performance exhausts if you dont have the money for a new header pipe
The cdis are all placebo, it's the same cdi boxes used in the gy6 engines and with my experience with them can say they don't have rev limiters, tbh it's more money and effort to give it one then the Chinese manufacturers want to spend, the cdis can sometimes advance ignition old little bit, but generally all the aftermarket ones will be a universal advance across the whole rev range, basically all I'm saying is if it ain't broke don't bother, a cat delete and emissions delete, and deburing the exhaust what do way more then a cdi will
@@jaykoerner For sure! This video was a pretty long time ago but I think I even mentioned at the end that I didn't notice any significant difference when installing the new CDI. I agree with your statements, thanks for commenting!
@@3PedalDevils oh agreed, I started off on scooters as far as two wheels are concerned, and they are legally required to stay under 30mph and 1bhp, if they don't rev limit something that has a legal reason to limit what would you gain by limiting a full motorcycle? All these manufacturers generally don't have enough product lines to differentiate them by performance in any capacity, so there's no reason they would have a rev limiter it's all wives tales and placebo, "this cost 30$ it must do something..."
Nice vid I have the same bike I've done all all the mods that I've seen I'm running at 115 main jet with the performance exhaust with a E3 spark plug I will be installing that same CDI box today just to see if it really works.
Thanks! And awesome! Sounds like you've got a bit more done than mine. I just installed a performance ignition coil and a new rear tire this weekend. I haven't noticed too big of a difference with the new CDI, but others swear by it, so I guess we'll see.
My tBr7 doesn't like to stay idle for some reason.. like sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't.. what do you recommend I check? There's also a slit/hole where the carb hose meets the air filter box.. could that be the issue? And do you know if it has a low oil safety shut off? Cause my tBr7 is low on oil I have fresh new better oil here but I gotta drain the oil tank first. Can u help?
I don't know it off the top of my head, but I can check it next time I go to my shop. I'll be traveling for work until Thursday night, so I'll check it then. Sorry for the delay
Depends what kind of boot you're running, but a D8EA works if you have a resistor boot. DR8EA if you're running a non-resistor boot. There are more options out there. Check out this link: tbr7.com/upgrades/electrical/
If you're running the stock boot (which is a resistor style boot), you want to switch to the D8EA (non-resistor plug) or to another non-resistor plug listed in the link
I noticed my CDI box is making a beeping noise. Just noticed it today, sounds like a beeping noise is coming from under the seat, it's not the turn signal beeping because that noise comes from the horn. Looks like I'm gonna have to replace the CDI box.
Hi Vince, does your bike still run and if so, does it seem to run normal? That's a pretty odd failure, but nothing surprises me with these bikes anymore. Are you running the stock CDI box?
@@3PedalDevils Stock CDI, took it out for a ride today and didn't notice the beeping. It was very faint, not as loud as the blinkers, but it was definitely making the noise, now, or at least today it wasn't.

Just wrap electrical tape around beeper.
This probably works too, but it's just as quick too snip the wire
