    As for chicken to learn where they live, lock them up for two days in barn. "Just a few acres" does this every time they get new chicks out to pasture.

    Goats are master climbers and will find their way just with a tiny foothold. With their bus gone they'll look over the extra wood, and with the help of chickens, turkeys and dogs quietly build their airship to escape into the night. The party animals they are, they like to go to town from time to time.

    Anyplace there's wood rubbing against metal or where the goats are walking on the wood for the chicken entrance etc., you should put some kind of lubricant on the wood .Using just enough to make it slippery but not to messy.

    Hey guys, I like watching your videos. Lot's of hard work but the outcome will be rewarding for years to come. Beautiful scenic area! Just a little request here, would love to see more interactions between the animals. I noticed near the end of this video, the dog and the goat interacting with each other. I love animals and watching how they interact. In a couple of other of your videos I noticed the light colored goat rearing up to head butt the active dog. Now seems like they are getting along better. 👍👍😊😊

    Katie that latch that you said you can unlatch through fencing / EVERYONE that little hole a the top is made to have a string attached and you drill a hole (through the framing) so that when you are inside the pen/cage/coop the string opens the latch and everyone I saw used just tied a washer to the string on the inside to pull the string and keep from being pulled out / the little hole at the top of the latch is there just for that reason

    The chicken entrance can be a chute that reduces down to say 12" wide and say 14" tall, coming off the wall 2 to 3 feet, keeping the goats out.

Also, why is watching you guys run the chipper so relaxing? I know it’s hard work for you, but the time lapse and the chill music makes it so relaxing and enjoyable for us. 😂❤ Love you both!! ❤

    Next time you don't have the right size PVC pipe just get out a heat source like an electric heat gun and heat it till it gets soft. You can shrink or expand PVC pipe quite a bit. Works well when you don't have a coupler the right size just heat it up, put it on whatever thing you need and then let it cool then take it apart and then glue it. Lots of youtube video on it.

    Looks like there is a plug pack on the chook door will allow you to connect it to a battery. There should be an output voltage on the plug pack which will most likely be 12 volt DC. That should run no probs directly on a battery.

I know you put a lot of work into caring for the animals as well as working like a complete 0G to get things squared away on the barn you’re very versatile and hard-working. I know we don’t see what your man does when he is at his paying job but he’s an OG as well for all the hours he puts in at his job as well as handling all the heavy work on the Homestead.. kudos to both of you☮️❤️👏

    Hi Greg & Katie , Love your vloge's so please keep them up . This problem you are having with the goats going in through the chicken coupe door , why don't you use that jig that you just made with the white conduit and turn it on it's side and put it across the Hatch door . Surely they can't push though those size spaces that you have as the chickens will be able to get through very easierly
    ( SORRY ABOUT MY SPELLING ) . I think it might be worth a try .

  • @dorothyallen3614
    @dorothyallen3614 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love your barn prototype, it’s cute and you’ll figure out the sneaky goat tricks and stop them, a barrier is probably your only answer, such as cattle panels! Katie, if you’ll research using sand under the roosts, you’ll find that it dries fast, is easily cleaned with a cat box scoop and you won’t experience the smell as much. I know that Cog Hill Farm and others are using this sand method and finding it works and can be dumped into your compost pile with just a bucket weekly. I hope that helps and saves you some time and supplies. So proud of you two, it’s a great project 99% completion and it really looks great ❤🎉👏

    Hi Katie if you use vertical railings with spacing that the birds can pass through but too narrow for the goats it should solve the problem. Maybe turn the tube structure ninety degrees in front of the entrance and cut the length down so that it covers the entrance for the birds.Regards john.

    just a suggestion, make the chicken door smaller around than the goats torso. the chickens don't need a opening quite that large. I used a small dog, dog door that has a flap that swings both ways, shorten the length of the flap and drill holes in it so they can see out, it took a while for them to get used to it but, works great now, just have to worry about the pred. like foxes now! good luck to you, great job with the projects by the way!!!
