    So fun to tag along on your projects. I know both of your joy at the satisfaction of building something of your own. I have added on to our home of 46 years 3 times. That is a beautiful log Greg. As I watched you cut the rebar Greg I wished you were wearing a face shield. I had to have metal slivers taken out of my eye twice. Have you received rain enough to lessen the fire danger?

    I would be looking around for another tree like that one that is in a plentiful area to go ahead and cut down and mill and set aside to dry and use for something inside the house. I used some red cedar fencing boards to build a wall to hold my stereo equipment years ago that turned out very beautiful. The fence kept blowing over in dust storms so I used the wood for that wall and for the front of a bar in a game room we made out of a bedroom. Everybody thought it looked great and it repurposed the wood rather than let it go to waste because the winds were snapping the posts off at ground level and I gave up putting in new ones.

    Katie, once again you showed your growth and development as you carried those sacks of concrete; young lady that was impressive! Greg, I actually share and felt your excitement, almost disbelief, in the quality of that tree and the wood it provided. You were definitely blessed with a beautiful tree! I was so excited about it that if you were closer I'd offer to come up there to work with you putting it up on the house. What a feeling of accomplishment and joy you will have from all that is involved with having those trim boards on your home. You guys are awesome and very deserving. Great work guys. Next time try doing the process in reverse. Water in the mixer. Add 1 bag, mix, then more water, then add a bag of concrete to get your consistency to were you like it. Helps with dust, mixing more than one bag at a time. In reality you could probably get 3 bags in that mixer. I'm sure the deck will be great. Siding before snow?
    As for the log. A truly excellent specimen. An idea. Cut a 5.5 inch piece of trim and instead of wrapping the corner. Hold one piece of trim 1.5 inch past the corner which gives you 3.5 + on the wall. Much nicer, cleaner look and saves on material.

  • @bobflores
    @bobflores ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Moving right along with the deck foundation piers. That trim you couldn't buy at the big box store. It's going to be beautiful. Are you going to plane the trim boards or leave it rough sawn? For future reference, you may have already figured this out, put about 2/3 of the water you'll need for one bag of cement in the mixer before you put the cement in the mixer. It'll cut way down on the amount of dust it kicks up when you start the mixer. Then add additional water to get the desired mix. Thanks for the episode. (I'm thinking you'll hit 100K subs by Halloween.)

    A few things. 1. Silicosis. Wear dust masks. 2. I could be wrong, but I feel like that mixer can handle more than one bag at a time. 3. Being too moist is almost never a problem, except in concrete mixing. 😅

    Hello🤗you hard-working builders, a tip from me:
    please collect the sawdust in a large bag while you are sawing, it serves very well as bedding for the poultry, it quickly absorbs the soft manure and, moreover, the hens like to "bathe" in it, just like in the sand.
    When the snow starts to melt in the spring, you can spread the sawdust on the paths very well and you don't constantly walk on these soggy, muddy paths🤗
