Since posting this video and tracking with the comments, I have learned that the boards are coded to match the color of the shell on each Joycon, which will make your Switch correctly identify the color of Joycon that connects to it. I did not take this into account during this project. I will (at some point) get around to taking these all apart and rematching, though I doubt I will film that process. I apologize of the oversight, and appreciate the community for pointing it out. I hope you all learn from my mistake :)
Yes you absolutely don’t need to switch the boards. I customize my joycons and you can easily change the colors on the computer. It takes all of a minute
I enjoyed this video and the way you edited and presented your work. I don't have a desire to watch a 3 hour video of the entire process but support those who do.
As an advocate or reduce, repair, recycle and reuse, I love your videos. As for the longer uncut/unedited videos, that sounds like a good idea. Maybe at some point, a 2nd channel, if the effort and returns justify each other?
Wow! I'm also a supporter of repairing and recycling, but I honestly don't think I have the mental patience for this! What a project! You did an awesome job!
Man... this is cleaning nightmare! So many controllers, so many small pieces and little screws, and so much repetition. That's a BIG patience training, well done!
Honestly, this is the dream. If someone gave me a box of Joy cons to test out, take apart, clean and reassemble I'd be the happiest person alive. It's one of those things I get a ton of enjoyment from. Also, reassembly ASMR is very welcome.
I find your vids are so relaxing and chill. I would totally watch a 3+ hour vid of you disassemble and clean. But maybe have some slight background music just to keep the chill vibe. Like wind blowing or trees rustling. Keep up the solid work man! 😀
I was really looking forward to you assembly the other side then you didn't. Yes upload a 3 hour long video. I'll watch it all. I've taken joycons as well as switches apart and enjoy watching others do the same.
I can't believe you did all this without an ultrasonic, definitely something you should invest in if you dont have one, i was amazed at how much work itll do for you.
The shell and button cleaning music was an absolute BOP. I was vibing the whole time despite knowing the pain you went through to take alllllllll those apart never mind cleaning them! 😂🎉 Awesome 👍🏻
I loved this video! Those controllers are the bane of my existence! Getting most of them to work is super amazing! I'd watch 3 hrs of real time! Thanks for the option!
This was honestly a really nice video. I had it on in the background while I worked and the music was peacful and every minute or two I'd look up and see how cool the cleaning process was visually. Thanks for the great content!
@@RestorishOfficial No problem. I spent $50 CDN on Amazon for a magnasonic. Just water for normal things and 99.9% isopropyl alcohol for electronics. Just let the electronics dry.
For those very small pieces and maybe even overall all of them. You can get those mesh laundry bags for clothes and put them in there and straight into the wash machine. There are safety latches in them so they don't open during wash. I use those for my clothes but also have a separate pair for things like this. Specially Lego's. I bought a large lot of 5000+ and used those to wash them. Saves time and also does a better job overall. Maybe a little spot wipes here and there after and then leave out to further dry.
I may be in the small minority but I would love an uncut video of you reassembling these, I really enjoy watching these kinds of videos, especially while I'm multitasking. I find it relaxing kinda like asmr
How many hours was this?! I enjoyed watching the tackle box assembly line. Cool to peek behind the curtain and see how you keep track of all the pieces. I probably would watch your 3-hour asmr 😆
LOL It was a lot of hours. I didn't keep track. The project took me over a week though, including the editing. I have the footage all ready to post if enough people are interested in the ASMR long video.
At 1:39 you said "This cable just pulls straight out, there's no gate or lock". That flex cable has a lock tab, just like most of the flex cables on the joycon!!
The motherboards are color coded to the shells so they show up as the correct color when attached to the switch. Did you make sure to put the correct motherboards in their original shells?
how did you ensure the correct PCB went into the correct colored shell as the color the switch displayed is linked to a value stored on the joycons PCB?
I didn’t. This is something I learned after completing this project. I will fix that before selling these if I do. In the future I would find a way to mark the boards for reinstallation.
a question ive been wondering for a long time ... take the zelda joy con ... if you couldn't get them to work could you just take the shell and put it on a joycon that works to keep the limited edition shell working?
I Like all the Different Color Joy-cons ,but from my Experience i dont like working on them cause ive had so many things go terribly wrong then I have to order more parts to fix them T---T I would buy more if it wasnt for that OTL
I think he could have saved a lot of time by simply wiping the outsides of all of them, then just cleaning the buttons for the non-working ones and diagnosing the faults.
i hate the fact that you didn't note what color each board was, as when they pair to the switch, the switch will show the wrong color. that made the whole video completely unsatisfying for me
@@RestorishOfficial Ye, I've read about it in the comments. I mean there is a way to just change the assigned color via software, but you'd have to find out the exact RGB/Hex codes of the colors that Nintendo used, and then of course the serial numbers wouldn't match the color assigned to them. But that shouldn't be a problem as long as Nintendo doesn't find out lol

Joy-con Toolkit should let you restore color flags, either from a backup or by setting custom ones. It might be worth a try?
Yes you absolutely don’t need to switch the boards. I customize my joycons and you can easily change the colors on the computer. It takes all of a minute
@@kaicube5967it also has presets too of most colors
Having taken apart joycons before, I can appreciate the sheer amount of time it took to do all of this. You're a stronger person than me. Great work!
Say man, do it.

There is a software for PC that lets you change the color from joycons and pro controllers. Maybe it can help match the case with the internals.
Glad I didn't have to scroll too far to see this comment ✨👍🏻

Great video.
I would have put all the buttons in my little ultrasonic cleaner. It would have saved you lots of time.
Thanks for the tip!

what a crazy amount of work that went into this
This was really quite impressive.
I personally would really want the three hour long video with no music. I love watching these to fall asleep and sometimes the music gets on my nerves

When you dropped in all the tiny parts, the sound made me think of Lego!
I felt that while doing this project!
That thumbnail scared me for a second because I thought you had a bunch of controllers in water 😂😂😂
Are you selling these?
massive restoration bro
So when is Restorish Longs coming out for all that unedited washing? :p

I'd love to see the longer video!
I enjoyed the video, thank you! Please make that assembly video😃
Its Amazing what Dawn Soap can do..... Hope they sponsor some time :)
I will love to watch your asmr video, great job❤.
There's so much stuff in there!
Maybe setting the buttons on a sheet of blutack would make cleaning easier?
what is this kind of job called? i’m genuinely interested
Bro at the minute 4:23 I thought he was washing the joy, cons so I like bro just literally broke everything but then I realized it was just the cases😂😂

No I didn’t know that. That’s good to know for the future!
I would love yo see an uncut 3 hour long video of this
Do yourself a favor and get an ultra sonic cleaner. It will make cleaning things, especially tons of tiny pieces, much easier.
Thanks for the tip!
I would love to watch the directors cut :D
Do the buttons have a better feel? More clicky after that internal cleaning?
There was one joycon that had sticky buttons, and that went away. Other than that I didn’t notice anything
@@RestorishOfficial ok, thanks :)
When i see the thumbnail at first glance
I thought he will put all of his joycons in water
why not use ultrasonic cleaner to clean so much small pieces?
PLEASE DO IT ROBERT!!

How do you know how to put it back together
Memory? Tutorial videos? Instruction guide? Take your pick.
