    Well, you definitely did tear it up 🤯😂 an absolute, unreal joy to watch! Thank you so much Rob 🙇‍♂️
    As for the tape deck, this one has been disconnected, but the same modification can be done while leaving the tape deck intact 🛠 perfect if you want some of that extra Lo-Fi ASMR whirring! 🎸📻

  • @Stephenmichaelsguitar
    @Stephenmichaelsguitar 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

    Little know fact, Back in the 90’s, Sony made legit guitar pedals. I was the demo guy for them at 2 NAMM shows,it was essentially a multi effects processor, the HR-5. I’ll always be indebted to Sony for giving me an opportunity to go to 2 NAMM shows with a per diem. It opened the doors to other endorsements and meeting great people.

    • @PrettyRecords
      @PrettyRecords 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They never made any pedals at all. If you're talking about The Sony HR-GP5, well that was a half-rack. You're probably referring to the optional midi controller that could be bought with it, but Sony never made any "effects pedals" as such.

    • @Stephenmichaelsguitar
      @Stephenmichaelsguitar 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@PrettyRecords it indeed was a half rack. But I used it as a pedal on the floor when gigging. There’s a few videos of me out there demoing them at NAMM and music messe. It was the HRGP5. Hard to believe It was almost 30 years ago ..if you worked at Sony. Thanks it was a long time ago..

    • @PrettyRecords
      @PrettyRecords 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Stephenmichaelsguitar Well just because you used it on the floor doesn't make it a guitar pedal! And they sounded awful, surprisingly bad coming from Sony. After owning one I learnt that not everything Sony makes is great. No wonder they stuck with making TVs. Unfortunately a lot of digital stuff from the 80's & 90's sounded like shit and the Sony HR-GP5 was no exception.

    What that thing reminds me of is my first experience with my first fuzz box. That was an Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi. Way back in the 70s, when I was young, broke, and all I could afford was stuff from EHX (before they called it EHX). I didn't know what I was doing, so I would up hating it. Then I learned more, but my guitar's pickups were microphonic, so I spent years trying to find a rig that wouldn't make my guitar howl every time I applied gain. Things are better now, thank goodness!😎

    I glimpsed the thumbnail on my lunch break and had to wait 4 more hours before watching. In that time I was gripped with curiosity for what Sony could've done and how would they market it? What possible niche could they have found to fill? What does it mean for other brands like Samsung and Panasonic? Will it be wireless? Have they figured out how to seamlessly integrate Bluetooth with true bypass somehow? Can I hack it with linux?
    Needless to say you got me proper good, hats off, 10 points😂 that little beastie sounds pretty good too, I think I've got a similar little deck somewhere, must give it a go. Cheers from NZ

    Hells yeah!! This is genius, Rob!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 Would be fun to get some other old tape recorders. I’m partial to Fisher Price of the late 70’s & 80’s. Let’s see how different models sound. You should pop some blank cassettes to record your playing while you’re at it, especially while manipulating some of the FF/RW buttons while recording. That would be totally Alvin and The Chipmunks’esque!
    I’d also love to see what would happen with a Sax-a-Boom (alà Jack Black fame). If you can find a way to connect a Sax-a-Boom with a contact pickup or some other way, I guarantee Jack Black will be calling you to join Tenacious D!

    To be honest...this isn't too far from my first "amp". When I got my first electric guitar, I was playing through an old Karaoke machine. Not the fancy ones either. Just a 2 tape deck Karaoke machine with no options for displaying any lyrics lol. With the volume at full, the thing actually had great distortion and it did the job until I got a real amp lol. I wish I still had it just for nostalgia's sake. Contrary to yours though, mine wasn't a "Fuzz" sound but more of an actual distorted amp. It was super fun though! Great for a poor beginner that I was back then.
