Hello Mr. Old Mechanic. I like your content. One question: why do you mark the filter with the wax-pencil?

I really enjoy watching your videos.
If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? I can't tell by the accent. It almost sounds Scottish sometimes, but I can tell you're not a native speaker (and neither am I). Keep up the good work!

Have you emptied the oil radiator? Its normal closed by a termostatic valve

Are you sure that 10W 40 is the correct oil?
I always use 5W 40 Advantec oil and a BMW oil filter for my S1000R.😉

My Castrol oil is perfect for the job, but you can always buy the more expencive BMW oil if that makes you feel better Jonty 😉

@@TheOldMechanic I have found out if you use 10 / 40 rather than 5 / 40 the hydraulic cam chain adjuster takes a few seconds longer to build pressure, just sounds worse. I fitted a manual cam chain adjuster and now it doesn’t matter as not having an effect.

Yeah, he's using the wrong oil. It's not that it's bmw specific oil, it's just the wrong type. It should be 5w 40.

Aren't you supposed to warm up the bike before draining the oil? The Haynes Manual specifies this for 2010-2017 r,xr,rr.

using 10w40 oil makes the motorcycle lose performance, impairs the radiator heat exchange, impairs the hydraulic tensioner. Engineer does not study for hobby

Maybe when cold, but that is negligible once the engine is at operating temperature.

I have used 10w 40 for years in all my bikes and never a problem.
