Caltrain 'Peninsula Corridor' Review (remade) ~ Train Sim World 4

- Dovetail's Peninsula Corridor route is a welcome improvement over the old and disappointing TS classic version. This add-on was released in 2019, and it's one of the better US routes, in my opinion (even if only for the busy timetable). But the route is let down by some of the worst distant scenery I've ever seen in Train Sim World.
By default, the route only comes with the Caltrain F40PH-2CAT locomotive and Gallery coaches, as well as the Union Pacific EMD GP38-2 and a generic hopper. The MP36PH-3C and MP15DC locomotives are sold separately, but they are essential to improving the realism on this route.

To answer your question of Pier 96, it is located in San Francisco, more specifically on the San Francisco Belt Railroad. For the sound of the Caltrain f40, the engine and HEP sounds quite accurate, however the horn is very inaccurate when passing at speed. ( rail-fanned Caltrain at Santa Clara depot every Saturday when the SBHRS is open.

Also, Atherton station and college Parks holding platforms are in accurate as they do not contain train departure screens. it’s quite stupid dovetail could miss such an obvious inaccuracy.

They should eventually make an electrified version of the route when Calmod gets completed.
honestly, this route would be much better if they updated the stations. south san Francisco and hillsdale got redone in 2021, while atherton shut down for good and has been ripped out that same year. they should also make the gallery cars more yellow on the inside. one last thing is if they just updated the timetable to reflect the current one
I hated that the good trains are DLC. I didn't get the upgrade which would have been closest to operating a GO Transit route
It would be nice if DTG could just take there time and make routes look not rushed and enjoyable
A note for the ES44 horn, not sure why people hate on it,it sounds just like it does in real life, I live across the street from a main rail line and have those same trains come through several times a day not to mention a yard half a Km down the street, I literally hear it every other day when they pull out of the yard and pull through the road crossing.
It's a bit off. I remember the guy who recorded the horn was on the forums and said how the horn is difficult to record to get good sound out of. He said back then he would try rerecording but idk if that ever happened
As I stated before, I got this for free and the loco addons for under a tenner as a result of the event. So I am grateful to Dovetail at least for that. For one, I am kinda impressed with this route and despite some of the scenery leaving a lot to be desired, even noticing a bit of the terrain sticking out at one point, I will rate it as decent in my upcoming TSW route rating video, despite the let down with the scenery. So, yeah. It is mostly a job well done, with the emphasis on mostly.
I live in de bay ‘ baby bullit sounds weird + The stops weird people / and stinky on the trains I ride it lots . 😅
This might be really hard, but I think it's possible to run an S Bahn (Probably 425) calling all stations in 1 hour (I managed 1 hr 4 mins) in scenario planner on this route. Feels like a nice challenge.
It's amazing how Ro-scale Roblox games do amazing with scenery and accuracy when it comes to route. A wonderful example is Northeast Corridor Train Sim. It is the greatest representation of the NEC I've seen and blows dovetail out of the water. It goes from NYP to Philly and has rolling stock for all lines the run along that section of the corridor and stock from the early days of the NEC to now and the future. Dovetail got to step they game up. Have one game and just keep constantly updating it. We should not be at TSW 4 seriously.
I play that NEC game a lot and you’re right, it is soooo much better than Dovetail’s route and best of all, it’s free! No silly £30.00 price tag.

5:56 these versions count towards the Norfolk Southern GP38-2 mileage run achievement. The same is said for Bremen 155 counting to the RSN version achievements Bremen 110.3 for Linkerheinstrecke 110.3
The sounds on the switcher are somewhat normal while the f40 is off
Also the hopper cars on this route used to have graffiti variants on them in train sim world 2020

I still play this route in TSW3, due to the reversed trailer gallery coaches, and the bell sound on the F40 got messed up.
Personally I wish gilory was added. I’m aware that only a few trains stop there but it would be good to continue on pass San Jose
The most reasonable area to extend it to would be tamien from people I've talked to since majority of trains stop there

Apart from the horrible scenery, the only other major complaint is all the center beams in sidings, and a center beam unit local in a siding along the north shore bay section and yet not a single time do you get anything to do with them. It’s like with dovetail they show you five different types of cars and give you one to actually use and it’s almost always a pick up 5 cars, drop them off, pick up 5 more cars of the exact same type, and deliver them back to where you came from, end of scenario. This route could’ve used a Santa Fe F7 layer just like cajon and antelope it should’ve had a scenario or a timetable slot with the F7 pulling Caltrain or metro doubledeckers as a local excursion run. Way better than the very dumb deadhead run they offer and zero passenger cars to go with it. The Mp15dc is one of my favorite locos in real life more specifically the GATX leased schemes. With both dlcs this route feels much more realistic but man once again so much potential and just wasted
Same as the Habbins in Coswig or the Lears in Riesa , no weißeritz 2 siding repetition will due because shunting is a niche thing our players do(because we made it suck ass)

Yes, I'm aware of that. I've been watching his videos since around 2015, when he still went by 'Charmx'.
It's a huge mistake to judge this route by Baby Bullet as it is the best loco here (and another DLC to buy btw), the main problem of Peninsula Corridor is the F40PH itself as it still has it's famous years old bug resulting in train suddenly being unable to move after stop until you manually switch MU-2A valve to wrong 'slave' position and back (especially convenient when driving the cab to the north). I had this bug in TSW2, TSW3, TSW4 and I'm pretty cure it'll be present in TSW5, TSW6 and so on. The brakes are also way better on MP36 (and it even has it's power generator for passenger cars working correctly with sound and exhaust visible if you know how to start it).
P.S. The timetable for F40 is so tight it's impossible to drive along the route in time.
The continued presence of that bug in the F40 only goes to show how little Dovetail really cares about their products (and - by extension - customers). I wasn't aware of said bug when I made this review.

The countless flaws with all the routes you've reviewed just makes me wish they actually decided to spend time rather than releasing content but actually going through EACH DLC and ADD-ON DLC and bringing it up to expectations of the community.
WSRs (in my opinion) very lacking refresh was I guess a starting point but considering some routes clearly look neglected such as the Canadian Oakville line released back in...idk...TSW1/2 days really makes me wonder where their priorities lie.
The upcoming Tadami Line for Japan im literally BEGGING they don't mess it up beyond belief....
Oakville Subdivision was released just over four years ago in February 2020. Make of that what you will.
4 years... Yeah, no chance of a refresh. Either way, I'm hopeful albeit losing hope slowly.
Any remasters depends on a devs own free time outside of normal working hours which is how west somerset happened. 2 person effort, but mostly 1 person. They don't have a dedicated team anymore nor is it an official dtg project.

As someone in the Bay Area who’s commuter on Caltrain I’d love to see this route get a refresh with the newly overhauled MP36s and the addition of the newer MPI built F40PH-2Cs 920-922.
I can literally hear these trains outside my window at night. Can confirm that the main CalTrain engine sounds are completely spot on, while the Union Pacific and Shunter are not.
If something, this game needs the extension to Gilroy
I remember trying to complete a service on this route (in TSW4) from San Francisco to San Jose but got stuck behind AI trains at San Jose that were stuck at a broken signal.
What was the specific service?

I bought TSW (and Peninsula Corridor) on Steam, because I play the PC version of TSW.
The accelerarion is waaay to fast. I live in Palo Alto, and I can confirm that even with 4 cars, the acceleration is slow, 10 mph in like 10-15 seconds.
