- 'Ol Dovetail Games at it again, releasing previous or rehashed content as new for full price. It's the same LIRR most of us know and own, just for sale... again... reworked signaling and the new Long Beach branch addition as well as the Kawasaki M9.

Long islander here, just wanted to clarify that it is spelled “Centre avenue” in real life And yeah I wish they included the new additions to the LIRR like the 3rd track mainline and grand central. Then I would consider the price to be justified.
Had it include the M3 i would be justified but they couldn't pass up on selling that dlc yet routes like south eastern high speed got plenty of updates and extension and they added the 465 for free.
@@gtasandman I completely agree. They already had the M3 ready made, and it would be worth it if it were included but, Dovetail just wants that sweet money. They love to prioritize German and especially British routes over American routes.
@@gtasandman sehs still required some sort of tsw3 to be bought so it technically wasn't free lol. It was also a core route of tsw3

Apparently DTG couldn’t update the old singaing system on the old route so had to do the entire thing from scratch. There was a much bigger timetable for the old route but since the singaling didn't work properly, it was never implemented. Grand Central Madison wasn't added because there was concern by DTG apparently that the MTA wouldn't allow it for "security reasons"
However I don’t think this justifies the $40 price. It frankly seems anti consumer to release a product that has the singaling system not work properly and then decide to fix it but tell players that if they want the new features, they have to pay full price for something that should've been working from the start. Imagine if triple A companies like Ubisoft or Electronic Arts did this. I can only imagine the backlash.
The Long Beach Branch while nice doesn’t add a whole lot. They didn’t even bother adding the Far Rockway or West Hempstead Branches. The Far Rockway Branch is only 5 miles from Valley Stream. The West Hempstead Branch is 4.4 miles long
The main route itself hasn’t seen much changes. There are some new station assets and a bit more vegetation on the Hempstead Branch but the line is largely the same with the same reused assets.
If they absolutely had to charge for this, then it should've been $20-25 at the most. This is not worth $40, but of course there will always be the odd Dovetail whiteknight that will come up with some nonsense excuse to try to justify the price
I think the price would be fine if they put the M3 in with the route but, Dovetail loves money.

I live around the lynbrook, valley stream, and rosedale area, and i gotta say, the developers did an outstanding job when it comes to graphics and detail, it LITERALLY looks exactly the same as real life.
Literally could've gotten West Hempstead and Far Rockaway alongside Long Beach. I dont like that we dont have a modern take on it, triple track, the way penn Station actually looks now, and Grand Central.

Regarding sounds, what I've read from the past from dtg is that mta doesn't allow people to come and record professional sound recordings and take photos. It's probably for safety reasons as well since it's New York. Even the m7 in harlem was provided by the community.
Just a quick side note about the speed limiting thingy for cab signaling. After running services for a few hours I noticed you should adhere to whatever speed is lower between ATC and ACSES. I’ve seen where ACSES shows the track limit at say 70 while ATC only clears me to 40.
I LOATHE how people shit on simrail for their (genuinely very good) cargo dlc being sold for a early access product, but people are fucking defending a FULL AAA PRICE FOR A FUCKING HALF-ASSED UPDATE. Its insane. I despise fanboys so fucking much.

The branch that turns right at the valley stream station is the Far Rockaway Branch :)
What I want to see is the full Ronkonkoma to Penn branch. The farthest point of the Ronkonkoma line in the game is Jamaica, and Jamaica is not even a 20 minute train ride to Penn. There are way longer routes in this game already. Why wasn't the full Ronkonkama branch included? I really wish DTG would listen and give us the entire length of this route, considering it is the BUSIEST route on the entire service.

To be honest that bridge passing along Long Beach is a pain yes 5mph speed is a pain on the ass but I kinda don’t obey that speed cause it’s to slow but if you go a little bit high than 5 like 6 to 8mph the ACSES system won’t go off and make you slow down to actual track speed but that’s just me
Pretty sure that font is just the default Unreal font. Might be a bug, might be intentional, who cares, should be changed.
The changes were made because they have been breaking into yards and moving trains in the yard. Also they wasn't allowed to ride the trains for sound because of the heavy crowds and security reasons. N.Y MTA has had restrictions on what you can do. Train enthusiasts can get in trouble for taking pictures at certain stations.
These changes and tight restrictions came about after 9-11

I wish they would have added the new route to Grand Central (and the Babylon branch) but that probably would have required them to redo all of Harold interlocking.... Its a shame because I might know a guy who has worked on it 😉
One of the new additions is that you can drive the trains to and from the Hempstead yard which I wanted and some other players to do in the previous version
Note: Long Island is not part of NYC hence the cleanliness,Rosedale is the start and end of NYC(Queens)
If you look at a driver's cab ride of the LIRR - Long beach, before you get to the bridge you have colour light signals. How come they weren't implemented?

Don't know if you've checked the M3 scenarios yet, but they managed to release them completely broken. You put the trains master controller into P1 and nothing happens xd
im alittle confused so if you bought all the stuff in train sim 2 the m3 stuff aswell is this just an add on or is it a whole new dlc where i have to buy m3 budd again.
The m3 is the same m3 loco addon. Nothing's been changed about it other than it's decoupled from the old lirr

DTG has already said Live stream the next TSW will not be called "Five" at all as they noted will be called something on the lines of TSW Pro or Unlimites as they stated and supposedly is going to have Multiplayer.
That will be a laugh. The bugs will be unbeatable.

Along with the crossings, one thing that bothers me about this game and train sims is that the signals never emit light! At night time, the one thing you notice is the bright ass signals reflecting on the shiny tracks/illuminating the surrounding area/cab. i don't know why this simple feature cant be implemented.
Yeah they suck, and the colors generally off. Someone made a mod years ago to make them brighter and appropriate. Not sure if its viable nowadays

Yeah Its looks nice but not good enough for me to buy. I have it on TSW 2. I'd rather buy that route if it was the whole system of the LIRR. Just imagine if someone made the whole system of tracks and stations.
That would be cool, but I don’t know if TSW can handle 700 miles worth of track
Or you could do it. Not only would it take probably close to a decade since 600+ miles is far from easy, it could also result in performance issues from all the track and traffic

I don't have XBox gamepass so my discount for upgrading from old LIRR to new LIRR is zero....and as was pointed out in one of the Steam reviews, a lot of indie devs are offering full games (that may have taken years to make) for the price of these addons. Fortunately, I saw the light after the demise of TSW2 and my only purchase since was TSW3 DX edition when they were selling it with the 'end of life' discount (£11.99).

Once again if it’s US routes it’s half assed and broken everytime. Funny the two US routes announced coming up both our nothing more than recycled ideas and routes. I’ll stick to the original fuck that. Dovetail is criminal

Someone just stole a layup train and crashed it into layup trains further up the line in queens.
Dovetail games are BY FAR the biggest shysters in the video game industry. They consistently have released the same product over and over and over and over again and are undoubtedly planning a 5th iteration - each time it’s a “new game” at full price with one or two new (mostly cosmetic) features. In addition, they never listen to their community at all, leave their games and routes in buggy shambles, and have the audacity to OUTSOURCE their “development” to an equally shitty 3rd party company who produces routes on their behalf. I cannot fathom how people tolerate the blatant rehashing of the same route yet they never touch anything new or interesting.
How about the simulation quality? Nope! There is none. I’m fairly certain that DTG train sets don’t SIMULATE anything. Everything down to the code yield’s proportional results to whatever conditions the train is in, there is 0 variance whatsoever. Old equipment performs no different. Weather conditions play only a marginal role and the weather still manages to look like hammered dogshit after all this “development”.
How about the sounds? Nope! The sounds are often so quiet and bland that that you could almost swear it was generated from TH-cam videos and then poorly mixed using 2005 sound technology. most of the PC community desperately await sound packs to be uploaded online but there is only like 3 modders who very rarely upload anything bc it’s a shell of a game anyway and I’ve heard it’s hard to work with as well.
There are several games out there operating with a fraction of the budget who put out quality simulations that take into account various aspects of operating equipment and trains such as Simrail and Derail Valley, both of which take time designing new and complex machines that are rich in both sound and system complexity. At least the aforementioned companies actually are passionate about railfans and take their time to release quality content that satisfies their customers rather than just filling the coffers of their shareholders.
I know this is basically a rant at this point with no real structure but that’s just a few of the things that burns me every time I see the same pattern be repeated by DTG. I just really despise how companies like DTG can continue to get away with this utter lack of soul in anything they do. Every time I see one of their stupid roadmaps I ask myself how many of the same locomotive types will be reused and reskinned and charged for 40 USD. It’s just so pathetic that they tease these routes and play the same trick over and over on their customers all while Matt Peddlesden can sit on a livestream with his stupid furry cat ears headset and talk about whatever shit they will put out next. I have pity on anybody who seriously has any faith that they will put you, the customer, first.
