Yea it’s all about showing stability and that you can hold down a stable job for a period of time, I was fired from 4 jobs, but i had the same job for 4 years when I applied and got hired on with my PD, I told them the truth about my job history they respected it and told me not to worry about it that everyone gets fired from a job at some point in their life

I was very unprepared when I got out of the military. I kept looking for jobs that would fulfill me and make me feel like I did in the military and it never came so I wouldn’t be at jobs very long . I explained that to them and they understood. And that was 8-9 years ago

Currently going through a background check and I am a bit worried because the last job I worked at terminated my contract unfairly. There was issues with management due to favoritism, harassment, not wanting to have meetings to discuss issues I was facing with the workload but they said I was terminated because “bullying issues with coworkers” in other words issues with them. I have references that can speak on the matter, they also have cases from other employees that are open for harassment but since I was a contract worker it was my word against theirs. I know they won’t give me good reviews or a good reference with the background investigator so it definitely has me worried.

While I understand your issue. Focus on being specific and not elaborating on the issue. Example: Yes I was recently terminated from my previous employer for ....., so I do not believe they will provide a positive review. However, I learned .... from the entire situation.

Right now I have a conditional employment offer and all I have to do is pass my pt and medical/psych but I was worried my past jobs were going to hurt me as I left 3-4 without notices and I still passed the background. I was honest about it explained why I left. I think it also helped me that the jobs I did leave notices at spoke super highly of me and a lot of my bosses and references were current or former leos and they all recommended me for the job

Hello, I just got done with a police department. The officer said that my work history wasn’t good and that it would be better to have a job for at least 1-3 years. I explained to him that I’m still in college and working. I am at a job that I enjoy now and still in school, so hopefully after I get my degree and stay at this job for a few years I can go back and apply at other locations now that I know that my employment history was a factor.

One thing I like about summer jobs as a college student is if you don't like it you just ride out the season and explain you left because it was the end of said season.

I have a call with you next week to discuss multiple things. I am in the middle of 3 background investigations with 3 different departments. I am 33 years old and I did not grow up and get my stuff together until I was having my daughter four years ago. Job history is something I definitely jumped all around but then when I was finding out I was having a daughter I do have much better job history. BUT I am scared that I will not get on anywhere because they may think I am unreliable. Am I to old to still be trying to be a police officer?

Would leaving after a month ( current job) hurt my chances while I’m in the background process? Currently in college and after starting(the job), I felt that the hrs given and college workload is starting to not be manageable. It’s part time and I can’t stand being there too (not a great fit, good coworkers)

It's not ideal but if you do, you will want to focus on the fact that the schedule did not actually follow the originally needed time. And it conflicted. with your prior scheduled course requirements.

Derek, I left my cell phone at my job and my phone was on, so my boss was searching through my contacts trying to reach my mom. Basically she was trying to tell my mom I left my phone at my job, so she was being noisy looking through my contacts and saw police academy number, police school number, and she saw police officer online workshops and the next day I came in to work she was staring at me and acting very different. But to be honest looking through a person's phone is very private. Yes I got my phone back but who wants someone looking through their phone? Another thing is the other job I was a teacher and when I gave them a two week notice that I will be resigning they asked me why and I told them well I would like to become a cop and they rolled their eyes at me and started treating me different. I also left the job because the owners granddaughter who was the receptionist at the front desk would record me on her personal phone without my consent she also will have me in a group chat with text messages, which means when I was sending texts to my friends, family, and boyfriend she was also receiving them which is very personal. It's like I had no privacy and she was invading my privacy so that's why I left. No one on my job doesn't need to see the text messages I send to my boyfriend or whoever. I did tell her to take me out her group chat because when she sent a text to her aunt I saw the text message she sent I don't need to see that.
