Why Do You Want To Be A Police Officer
When will you guys open up the community group coaching program again?
I recently applied to a state position but withdrew once I was informed I have to provide EVERY SINGLE JOB I’ve had in my entire life with as much accurate information as possible pertaining to job description, supervisors, pay, location, email, phone numbers, write ups, and the list goes on - I am 42 years old. I’ve been working since I was 16. Yea, no thanks. I will be applying to a local agency instead, where they only ask for the past 10 years employment history.
Believe me, I’m in the academy now too, and the whole process is exhausting, but you feel accomplished in the end.
I just got my disqualification email from LVMPD. Don’t know why yet, I sent them an email asking what I can improve on so I’m waiting for a response. They gave me a 2 year DQ
This is the best channel for advises ever. I followed every video and "coffee and donuts" and starting academy on next January.
Where I applied they said expungements count, so don’t dare not put those. Maryland btw.
@@24POWERS always follow their directions.
Great video! What are your thoughts on starting as a Community Service Officer (CSO) and working your way up to becoming a sworn officer? Do you have a video covering this topic? Thanks, and keep up the amazing work!
So would it look good to only apply to one department showing that I’m very interested? Or is it better to apply to more then one while trying to get hired.
I appreciate the helpful advice and contact! I'm looking to go into the academy.
You got this!
Good morning, I did a phone interview, PAT, Polygraph twice ( the polygraph examiner said I failed the second time). Then I took the Psych exam about 41 days ago which the psychologist hinted at me passing. I reached out 2 weeks after the psych exam but I did not get a response. It’s the holidays so i’m hoping that’s the reason why I haven’t heard anything yet. Also keep in mind my psych and polygraph were scheduled a month in advance. I’m thinking about reaching out at the end of January. What’s your take? Thank you,
Hey Frank I just finished my ntn test and looking to get in the community group coaching for the remainder of my hiring process. It says currently unavailable, when do you guys open back up? Thanks
If I was handcuffed and detained when running away at 17 until my parents came to pick me up? Does this affect things, I dont believe I was charged with a crime
Hi, what if I was a foriegn student (American citizen studying abroad) in China for a few years will this affect my background check?
Just wanted to say your tips helped out greatly! I am now graduating the academy in a month and am already hired on by an agency. Thank you for what you do!
Should you apply to as many departments as possible while in academy?
Hello I’m looking into taking the online course you provide on your website. I emailed you to get more info on what the course entails as in is there zoom meetings to do the mock oral board interviews as well has the psychological exam?
If they want direct proximity neighbors contact, lets say either my direct neighbors dont speak english or arnt well around ppl in the area or they are law enforcement not friendly is it fine to go to the next neighbor or I have to make an attempt?
For the california highway patrol I dont know their # of dq’s gets you perm dq but they did say they tell you the reason for your dq so that you can work on your weakness and apply again and pass unless obviously your caught lying thats different
The department Im going for is speeding up the hiring process and before you complete the backgrounds fully they are throwing in the psych in it so you finish both & have medical and academic invite, def more pressure on me but yeah I guess its a benefit to finish both and save time
Navy veteran here, same thing in the military. If you're only meeting the bare minimum standard, then you're not doing it right. Don't just skate by. I'm looking into joining the academy myself, and I know that I'm going to have to retrain to get myself above the bare minimum. I can crank out push-ups and sit-ups, but the run and rowing machine is definitely going to be something I have to work on. Make your weakness your strength.
In the academy now. Hardest thing I’ve ever done. Everyday I’m dragging out of bed. Just trying to remember my why.
Hey man keep pushing You're doing great It's all worth it in the end I am currently also trying to become a police officer and once it's all over in the end I promise you you will look back and will have no regrets Don't quit keep pushing bro You got this
I got a chip fracture in my ankle back in june. Its currently 12/26/24 I healed up quick and got cleared for work. I also passed the physical agility test when I first started the hiring process. I go in for my Med. Evaluation tomorrow. Will this hurt me or should i be good?
A year ago I failed the polygraph so I retook it with a third party within their network and I passed but unfortunately the dept decided to go with their own results.
Good afternoon sir. Just some clarification on “contacted”. Is that meaning vetted or simply receiving something like an email for them to fill out and return to the BI?
There was an applicant with an exaggerated attitude of self-worth. She had excuses for everything and was cocky. In reality, she avoided work and was cut-throat competitive. She was stopped for speeding going to our office. She was very pretty and may had gotten over on her looks in the past. She was DQ.
I work in a state where hiring results primarily from the score on a civil service exam. The medical, physical, background investigation, poly, interviews, and other process are qualifying (pass or fail). Someone making sandwiches at Subway with a half point higher gets called before another applicant with a Masters in CJ. This is regardless of his history of success. The state could administer 10 exams. The same applicant could be number 1 on Monday, and number 25 on the next day. It's important to see what they want and to prepare yourself in those appropriate areas. Despite current events involving negative aspects of LE, I absolutely recommend this career. Guys and ladies who prepare, are the ones who get hired. Overwhelmingly, the competitor sitting next to you in ill-prepared. The state conducted a study on hiring practices. Seasoned officers were directed to take the PO test as a comparison. Months later, supervisors ranked their employees from best to marginal. I was selected to test again. They were looking for indicators on who would be good cops. This is despite what "a good cop" is. Highway Patrol, detectives, precincts, Marine Bureau, and other commands don't even agree what is a good cop. My precinct was busy. We were taught a good cop is someone who answers the 911 call, backs others up, treats people well, and stays in service. That was more important than making "unnecessary arrests". I'm not certain that's good advice, but summonses and arrests are only one responsibility of ours. We were discouraged from making misdemeanor drug arrests, especially during times of peak activity.
Just got my final job offer on Christmas Eve from Denver Police Department and have to say thank you for everything you do and I’m very appreciative of all the time/effort you put in these videos
I just got the news that I passed the psych evaluation. It was the last thing I had to check off to get into academy. I will be attending academy in January. Thank you for your videos they have helped a lot!
I just had my psych interview earlier today. Wish you luck!
So after physical agility all i have left is the background and psych?
@@lwiki4550 you as well
@@steeze770 Not sure my background check was the first thing that I had to complete and pass before I could do anything else. After that I had to complete the medical, physical, and drug test. The psych was the last thing I had to complete and pass.
@ im not required a poly and i get all the other info parts after the physical agility i had to pass the ntn before they even went forward with pat info
Thanks man for all the great videos you have helped me in my hiring process so much. All I have left is a psych evaluation in early January then I’ll be in the academy.👍👍👍
I have a question so I believe I got removed from the hiring process because I left the job without notice. I know because they asked me about it in the interview. It was four years ago. What should I do?
Im 54 and a Army veteran: MP 95B - 1990s. LE recruiting is FAR different from early 1990s, early 2000s. Local, state, county, federal sworn openings.
Do you recommend studying criminal justice or another curriculum?
Had a conditional offer. They resended the offer based on some shit in CAD. This is less than probable cause shit.
Accurate. Been applying at my local departments for almost 8 years. Thought I finally got my golden ticket last year. Nope, laterals took the available positions. Recently tested with the same department again. If it doesn’t work out this time, probably just going to give up on the dream. It’s a bummer, wanted to be in law enforcement since I was a kid; suppose it’s just not for everyone.
Especially Fire Departments
I am willing to work nights, overtime and weekends but it sounds awesome.
I’ve been non selected from 4 departments, because of my driving record which has been clean for the past 3 1/2 yrs but that’s what is holding me back I e put in a total of 14 applications and the others I haven’t heard anything back from even when I call to check in on my application they just give me the run around saying that person isn’t in right now or just walked out or is in a meeting but ima keep trying
Remember the Mr Clean commercials? The actor was a short W/M, muscular, with a shaved head. He's been replaced by a cartoon figure looking much the same. My first job after the military was being a cab driver. I drove him home at nights. He was a drunk. He told me not to become a cop. I'm sure glad I ignored him. One of my best police experiences was running a midnight basketball league for teens in the city. I did this for two years. There were years of invites to BBQs, weddings, and college graduations following. All those kids needed was a little guidance and direction.
Hiring is only one aspect of law enforcement and it's not the top priority for the command staff. There're hundreds of other activities existing simultaneously. Budgeting, Homeland Security, trends and patterns, equipment, courts for trials and hearings, coordination among units, grievances, cold cases, a burglar-rapist condition, DOJ mandates, state mandates, special events, computer integration, traffic data/ racial analysis, Language Line interpretation statistics, in-service training, committees, EMT certification for all sworn members, supervision and administration, emergency housing calls, community meetings and demands, staffing, disciplinary actions, planning, organizing, training replacements, involuntary committals to psych centers, school calls, and many other concerns which can be spontaneous. Running a 24/7 agency is complicated with thousands of areas of potential conflict. All it could take is one guy with a large ego to complicate things. We also deal with other agencies: town hall, dog warden, fire inspector, firefighting and ambulance service, medical examiner, insurance companies, the water company, social services, mental illness calls, power companies, suppliers, tow trucks, and maintaining records. I know that guy/ girl applying is trusting us to proceed properly, but there's limits and time delays involved. This gets done when it gets done. Fresh ideas aren't always welcomed. There's resistance to change.
I'd add new LE applications need to see the PD or Sheriffs agency in total. Fraud problems, Excessive force or FBI-CRD issues 🗃 . 1 PD near Orlando.gov just lost a female chief & 11 full time cops. Supervisors, patrol officers. Big scandal. JSO in north FL is often in the news. 🤔 Cops arrested, lawsuits.
Spent the last 8 months watching your videos. From initials applications, to polygraphs, to conditionals. Proud to say I received two job offers, from from my local police department, and one from my local sheriffs office, at 22 years old. Great content. From someone going through the process into 2025, I can say these videos are very accurate.
Congratulations on your two offers. It's a long process. Proud of you.
I can 💯% vouch for that! I've been a part of this community ever since I've started my hiring process, and it's all accurate! So glad that you're here too.
How can we contact you with specific questions?
57 agencies?!??!
I’m in my transitioning process right now as we speak and WHEEEEEEW it’s a-LOT to go through!!! But it’s worth it lol I decided that I want to become a police officer because I’ve always been very dominant. I ran track back in high school. Went to states. That’s how fast I am!! Played football on an all boys team as a starting wide receiver and played basketball as well as cheerleading. I want to help my people, serve and protect my communities, cities, and states. Besides getting into the p.o job looks extremely fun and extremely interesting . I’m not going to lie, I used to be a pothead 😅 but I quit all the smoking and drinking all together. Now I’m in the training process of being an p.o and I’m dedicated to this and hopefully when I get hired on 🙏🏽🤞🏽🫶🏽 I’ll retire helping serving and protecting my communities. I run every single morning. It’s hard 110% but the more I do it, the better I get. Studying all the laws and learning my facility backgrounds and chiefs, sheriffs, Lieutenants and etc. My main goal and concern right now is getting approved! I’m just getting started though so it’s going to take some time so guys wish me the greatest luck ever 🙏🏽🫶🏽❤️🤞🏽 I don’t even hang with nobody. It’s just me, myself, and I trying to make a better and safer lifestyle for my 2 beautiful daughters for sure. Just know I always keep up with your tips along with others so when I do get accepted for my oral interview, I won’t be so nervous and shaky. That I would be able to answer my questions off top with professionalism and that I would know what to expect regardless of what. I would love to thank you for everything sir 👑you definitely helped me out in a lot!! Because of you, I have mad respect and trust within myself to go through all the processes. One thing I’ll never do is GIVE UP!!!! Nor be late!!! Nor lie about anything within my background!!! Our people will believe in me and trust me, and trust in me as well as I do within myself . Now as far as my credit history, I don’t have any at the moment but I’m working on building that up also now. Better than saying having “bad credit” lol ….so my life’s transitions is starting and I can say I’m very proud of myself. Although I don’t hang with nobody, so are my parents and family. I have a clean record with the law enforcement so I’m not worried about any of my background checks. Again wish me great luck guys!!! 🙏🏽🤞🏽
I failed two in a year. Took about 16 months off from it all. Just passed it on my third try. Keep going.
i have a problem with paragraph with reading. I have a hard time to find a right words to the scenario. what should i do?
How deep is the education check. I attended a school that's no longer available, but i have the transcripts & diploma.
Merry Christmas to you and your family as well! I’ve enjoyed all of your content and I’ve enrolled in your consulting and training program. My actual journey to law enforcement will begin after I return to the US next fall but I’m really glad I’m starting the preparation process now! Thank you again sir, and have a wonderful holiday season!
My department offers a administrative review in the first 10 calendar days after getting the DQ letter. I was disqualified for my psych should I still try and fill out the administrative review to see if it could get overturned ? I finished everything and the psych was last and but I don’t want to wait a whole year to reapply.
All of my references were either active or retired police officers. They were individuals who either were my minor hockey coaches or at the time current friends from the gym and rec hockey. I got hired rather easily because they were good references who wanted to see me hired and ultimately because I was perfectly qualified. 13 years on the job and I’m grateful for all the support I got along the way.
I don’t have any intention of becoming a officer but your videos are fascinating. Thank you! 🙏
