2017 - 2022 Ford Edge Dead Key Fob Unlock - How To Open & Start With A Bad Remote Battery

- A video tutorial on how to open and start a 2017 - 2022 Ford Edge that has a dead or bad remote key fob.
If the remote key fob for your Ford Edge has a dead battery or is otherwise not working, you will need to use the emergency key located in the bottom of your smart key remote fob. Once the emergency mechanical key is removed, you will then use it to unlock the driver's door. After unlocking the Edge with the mechanical key and opening the door, you will then need to get in the vehicle and place the the remote key fob in the Edge's remote key fob backup slot located in the center console. After placing the remote remote key fob in the backup slot, you can then star the Ford Edge as your normally would.
This video will show you how to unlock, open and start your vehicle if you have a dead, bad or broken remote key fob or remote key fob battery on the following Ford models:

Thanks. Had my car almost 2 yrs and didn’t know about this. Now, to remember it for future uses. Sometimes the driver’s door doesn’t detect the FOB for a few secs, and yes, I’ve changed the battery; back door always opens up for my daughter.

I have the same problem. But Fob battery is new (though it was the reason). Still get the message that key is not detected and have to use your method. What could be the problem? I had my car without driving for 1 month. But car started without problem. Could it be the main battery? or external receiver? or any fuse? or? thank you
If the car started after sitting for a month it's probably not the car battery. It could be the receiver in the vehicle. It could also just be an issue with fob itself. Do you have any other fobs for the vehicle? Do they do the same thing?

What about when your car turns off while turned on and starts rolling backwards and then won’t start and only makes noise like it wants to until ultimately it says to replace the battery you replaced less than a year ago to now won’t start or give any power at all to even lock the doors?

If I don't get it in the center in 10 seconds the alarm will go off. If that happens, and the fob is dead, how do I turn off the alarm?
The alarm will only until you start the car so you might just have to listen to the alarm until you are able to get to the pocket in the center console
my key fob is ok I replaced the battery so the car battery must be dead. When i open the door will the alarm still go off?
no - if the vehicle battery is dead the alarm will not go off
How does the car recognize the fob if it’s dead? Why wouldn’t any random fob work
this only works with fobs that are programmed to the vehicle. There is a chip in the key fob that the vehicle can read if the fob held in the right spot, even if the fob has no power.

Let me ask you something if I don't make it in time. Meaning it takes me 15 seconds because I have a Lotta junk in that compartment which I have to remove first and the alarm goes off will the car still start ???
Yes and once the car is started alarm will turn off

The manual key is missing from fob. What can i do to enter vehicle?
Replace the battery in the fob. If the fob is broken you will need an Automotive Locksmith.
Anyone else having a problem popping the key hole cap? Mine just won't move. Lol. I'm not locked out. Just practicing for emergencies.
They can come off pretty hard sometimes - especially if they have never been off before

If the car battery is dead rather than the fob battery, then the alarm should not go off.

The first part helped with opening the door but once the door opened, the car didn’t come on.
If your edge won't start with the backup method shown in the video then you probably have other issues with the vehicle itself rather than the key. Are you sure the vehicles battery is not dead?

Yeah, I got a question. What the hell do you do when the alarm goes off? Because I’m not going to remember I saw this video years later when I need to use the emergency key. Not to mention that console is full of crap already.
Starting the vehicle as shown in the video will turn the alarm off if it goes off

Not if your vehicle battery is 100% dead. The fob and the code would do no good. So the manual door key method is good to know. Bc you can get into your vehicle to be able to pop the hood for battery access.
