Thanks for showing me this. It is major fail by Hyundai for not explaining this in the manual. Innovations in technology are supposed to make life easier, not more complicated.
That's great information to keep in the back of your mind Jim. I find it funny that they hide the key hole in the first place but that's the way manufactures are thinking I guess. You need the key and a small screw driver in your pocket now. :)
I actually love having a key and think it’s so much faster. This keyless thing is kinda annoying. Car companies are bored so they just keep trying to fix things that worked perfectly in the first place. Like buttons on a radio. Now we have big screens which is so dangerous. The map is nice, but just trying to switch to the other radio station is a whole thing.
Hi, a quick question. I'm no more able to open the door with remote. Key battery/remote is dead. But i have the key with me. Do you think, if i open the door with key, the alarm goes ON, once I'm inside car and turn on the ignition, the alarm goes OFF...? Kindly help.
Same here, my '06 Mountaineer has solenoid actuated locks, the easily visible door handle keyhole is connected to a switch which operates the lock solenoids. Dead battery means dead keyswitch in the door. Locked door means no access under hood to jump.
That is nice information to know as my sister took me to dinner for my birthday Friday and when we came out to get in her car her remote didn't work and she had to use the manual way to unlock the driver's door. I didn't know that the companies had changed the locks so much. That is one way to deter the amateur car thief from breaking into the vehicles. Well when she got home she closed the car by hitting the lock on the door and closing the door. Now the 2 keys she has do not work and the only one that will work is in the car. She called me and said there are no places to put an actual key into the door. That is until I found your video. Thanks. at least we can get back into the car and use the 3rd and only key fob that works. as to trying to program a key now to work to turn on the motor, that's a story for another day. lol
My mazda 3 with DEAD CAR BATTERY, nothing worked not even the key inside the fob. I tried to open mechanicly and it would not turn to open the door.. and had to get the inside door handle open to open the door, the poped the hood open.
All good, you said the remote is not working, but what about the alarm is sounding as you open the door and the remote is not working, how you turn the alarm off, besides disconnecting the car battery which would take a good 5 to 10 minutes to do it and its 3 am and the alarm is blasting, it happened to me.
The correct way to do this is to hold the driver’s door handle slightly open and use the key to push the cover release towards the front of the vehicle and the cover will pop off exposing the keyhole. This is explained in the owner’s manual as the proper way to do this so as not to damage the cover by attempting to prying it open
@@doranvee5944 They/manufacturers expect people/us to read the entire manual upon buying the vehicle and that's IF they cover every expected incident to occur.
What do you do when the remote control is not working because the battery is dead and the key does not open the door? 2009 Lexus IS 250. We turn the key left and right, and the door is still closed. We replaced the battery inside the remote control if it has something to do with it.
Excellent overview, thanks. My battery went flat and I could not pop my Sonata trunk. My booster pack was, you guessed it, in the trunk. I had to borrow a friend's booster pack to pop my trunk to reach my booster pack to boost my car. Car makers make life so simple.

What if I *DO* have a keyhole, and the key won't open the car that way either? (I WAS able to unlock it with the key the last time the battery died, but it's been a week since I drove this vehicle this time.) I tried both keys. No luck. I know how to use jump cables once I can get to the battery, but the hood unlocks from INSIDE the car. Figures; it's Sunday, nobody's open. Maybe I need to borrow Tarax's brick.
My car is locked right now because of a completely dead battery. You can't simply turn the key the other direction to turn the alarm off; you would normally put the key fob into a cupholder and turn the car on to disengage the alarm, but my battery is completely dead, so when I go to use the mechanical key, the alarm will go off and there will be no turning it off right away. I will have to try to quickly pop the hood, have my jump starter ready and use it on boost mode for a dead battery. Then I will have to hurdle a couple of things, jump back in the car and hit the ignition button. The alarm in my car has its own battery, so despite the dead battery, it will still sound, attracting the attention of my neighbors and inside the garage; giving my a headache. Good video though so that people now how to use their mechanical key to gain access to the car.
I do like the Hyundai. Yes this is mine. I decided to go with the Hyundai over the Honda because of some very serious problem with the new Honda products..Thanks for watching.
DJ R They were very dependable but there is a few problems with the new CRV the biggest problem is the turbo is dumping fuel into the crank case and the only way to get the 2.4 liter engine is to buy the base model. Another problem is the windows all roll down by themselves when the car is parked at night. This happened to a friend of mine on there new CRV when they were in a rain storm. When they took it to the dealer they told my friend that it was a known problem and the manufacture was working on a fix but I still like the Honda products

My truck has been sitting for a few months not in use. I went out today to start working on the engine but the truck battery is dead. Any ideas to get in with no door key and a dead battery?
@jamespaulgrierson And how did you get to the starter? Seems to me that this would involve jacking the car up, removing underside covers/plating, fiddling between engine parts to get to the starter, taking off cover or connector to the starter positive .... Not as easy as it seems reading your text.. And if the Porsche had air suspension: as it was jacked up without setting the suspension to jack setting, afterwards the suspension will be completely off, and might not be able to correct itself, may possibly have to be recalibrated/ reset..
@@jimthecarguy what a generalisation.. I own a number of cars, amongst which a Lexus, a Porsche and other, so in your opinion I should easily be able to afford to have work done on them..
My battery is dead but my key won't open my nissan any help

What’s your opinion on Hyundai? Do you recommend them? Is this your personal car?
James K I have an 05 and 06 Elantra. One has 124K and the other has 190K. I bought both new. With typical maintenance, each is running well.
I do like the Hyundai. Yes this is mine. I decided to go with the Hyundai over the Honda because of some very serious problem with the new Honda products..Thanks for watching.
@@jimthecarguy what are the serious problems with the Hondas? What production year and model have this issue?
I’d be interested to hear your experience with Honda’s. I thought they were very dependable cars. That other famous TH-camr seems to love them.
Good tip Jim, I never knew the key hole was hidden. JohnG
Hopefully you will never need to use it but it's nice to know you could. Thanks for watching.
That was very helpful for that kind of vehicle, I will keep that in mind in the future. I have a 2004 jeep liberty my key fob is not working, the only key hole is the drivers door I’m trying to get my back hatch open, can you help?
What if you have the key hole but the key won’t work either.
My truck had the ignition key replaced before I bought the truck. I have the ignition key but it has never worked for the doors or tailgate. I only have a key fob to lock/unlock the doors.
Some how I think that if someone owned a Porsche they could afford to call service. Thanks for you input.
@@jimthecarguy what a generalisation..
I own a number of cars, amongst which a Lexus, a Porsche and other, so in your opinion I should easily be able to afford to have work done on them..
I am a 100% car guy, as a result I like working on my cars myself, they hardly see the dealer, because in the rare moments that I do, (mostly when I am short of time or for warranty issues) almost always something is not 100% done to my liking.
So has NOTHING to do with what I can afford or not!
And regarding owning somewhat expensive enthousiast cars, I am certainly not alone in that.
I also hate the arrogance at most of the premium dealers which aren't used to a customer who knows just as much as they do or more, because I am a mechanical engineer with over 40Y of working myself on over 100 cars that I have owned and very often always have workshop manuals research everything mechanical regarding my cars when there is an issue.
You saved my whole day this morning Jim! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤
Happy to help!
@@jimthecarguy literally in the darkness of 5am this morning in Brooklyn NY and my darn VW Golf battery died locking me out …and of course then I couldn’t even open the hood to jump start it lolol!
Two minutes into your video and I was into the car! You and YT to the rescue! Instant sub and eternal gratitude!!!
THANK YOU AGAIN!
so you have to carry around a screwdriver at all times then ?
What about the remaining three doors? Are you sure they are locked?
Tell me, there is a bora 2001. Doors won't open with key or alarm. With the key, the thrust rises and that's it, you release the key and it goes back. If I lower one glass, it falls by itself, just need to remove ducktape, then from the inside will I be able to open it or will it be like with a key, just raising the thrust, but without opening it?
On a 2021 Malibu that has a dead battery, how can you open the trunk to get out the jumper cables? Even if you get into the car the it is close to impossible for a elderly person to figure out how to manipulate the backseat release. Could a release cable be hidden on the inside or underneath the car?
What about a 2001 Lincoln navigator if u locked out and remote will not open u can't get in it from the back neither do you have any suggestions for that one

You're wonderful ! Can you even imagine how many women are so thankful for you? COUNTLESS AND I'M ONE OF THEM. Thank you so much
What if you are locked Inside the car?
Break the windows. Better than starvation or suffocation.
I did all these steps, to find out that to open the hood, there's a button that works electronically/ not mechanical lever, so not the hood is stuck and can't change the dead battery. any idea how to open the hood to reach the battery?
watching this to save my friend
Thanks for watching.
